It was so much fun and will totally go down as one of my favorite days of my life!!!
In a nutshell, as a Speech Language Pathologist, I of course started out with a heart for the sweet kids I was working with. Ever since I can remember, my caseload consisted mainly of children on the autism spectrum and those with other developmental disabilities. I didn’t see many of the traditional articulation kiddos (you know, those that can’t say their “r” sounds right). The children I’ve always worked with had delays and disabilities that were much more involved. So I started out with a heart for the kids that were dealing with so much, but I soon gained a heart for the incredible mamas who I watched dedicate their lives to helping their children. These mamas give up so much to help their kids progress and live their best lives possible, and there is no doubt that they need a little pampering and some recognition!
Well, today, we are celebrating all of you special mamas, and we will be honoring one very lucky lady on Friday! Please feel free to nominate a sister, a neighbor, a friend, yourself, etc.
The only requirement is that the woman entered be a mom of a child with special needs.
You will see at the bottom of this post that you have to leave a blog post comment telling us a little bit about the special mama’s story. And remember, if you are a special mama, please feel free to nominate yourself!
In addition to the comment, you will also have to say on the rafflecopter that you did in fact leave a comment. I will not be “choosing” a winner (that would be wayyyyyyyy to hard), so the rafflecopter will randomly select a winner to make it 100% fair.
So…………..
What’s the one special mama gonna get?
Hold on to your Hanky Pankys ladies.
I’ve partnered up with LOFT today, and the winner will receive…..
A $1,000 SHOPPING SPREE TO LOFT!
SO! FLIPPING! EXCITED!
🙂
(A great way to help spread the word would be to pin this SPECIAL MAMA graphic! Just hover on the picture, click the Pinterest “P”, and pin it to one of your boards! Thanks girls!)
I get lots of requests to feature business casual wear that is appropriate for an office environment. Well, your wish is my command today! 🙂 LOFT is a great place for not only casual wear (like I’m always showing from LOFT, and you’ll see some of today), but also for office clothes, as well as fun dresses! We’ve got lots to cover, so let’s get busy!
Let’s start out with what I feel is a PERFECT office look!
My black utility blouse (found HERE) is almost sold out (only XL and XXL remain), but there are many other utility blouses from LOFT in lots of pretty colors found HERE.
The utility top drapes nicely, fits well, and the fabric is so soft!
If you work in an office environment, I’m guessing you may want more than 1 of these. (See a pretty soft blue and a gorgeous fiery orangey-red HERE). All the other pretty colors found HERE.
For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in the blouse.
I typically wear a small in tees and sweaters from the Loft, but I almost always wear a medium in their blouses that button up. If I don’t size up, the buttons tend to pull.
Now the pants?
Well, I cannot say enough about them.
They are ankle pants, and the “regular fit” fits my almost 5’4″ frame perfectly.
But don’t worry, because they also come in petite and tall!
On the site, they have 10/11 5 STAR REVIEWS!
Here’s what LOFT has to say about them:
Clean and composed, we crafted this skinny ankle pair in our new tech stretch fabric – a super smart blend that holds you in all the right places – and has sleek down to a science.
And you know what? They’re right. These pants are sleek and they hold me in in all the right places.
They are extremely flattering, and I just feel great in them!
Click HERE for the pants in the Marisa fit!
For size reference, I’m wear a 4 in these pants. Now, a word to the wise, I ordered these online and when I pulled them out of the box, I thought they looked HUGE. But guess what? They fit me perfectly. So don’t be scared when they look ginormous!
The Marisa pants are perfect for me (I’m straight up and down), but if you are a bit more curvy, then the Julie pants might be better for you!
Click HERE for these pants in the Julie fit!
***PANTS AND JEANS AT LOFT RIGHT NOW ARE BUY ONE GET ONE at 50% OFF, NO CODE NEEDED!***
I picked up this bracelet several week ago, and I love it! If you are one that is scared to mix metals, this one does it beautifully for you! The casing is a deep gold color, but the drusy is a light and dark silver! It’s GORGEOUS!
And now for something new I’m trying. Please try to not giggle. 😉
Whenever Chris is home when I’m doing outfit pictures, I’m going to try to get him to get a shot for me that isn’t my normal selfie in a mirror pose.
This was our first try.
I’m not sure why my hand is on the post like that?!? :), but just go with it now, and we’ll keep learning as we go.
Not to self: Next time, don’t lay hand awkwardly on a post.
Easy enough.
Don’t get excited, because I would say that 90% of the blog (or more) will remain my normal selfies, but we thought we would try to mix it up every now and then!
utility blouse options HERE / pants HERE / bracelet HERE/ similar earrings HERE /
similar simple long pendant necklace HERE (this ones a ladder necklace)
And if you want to know what shoes look good with these type of ankle pants, the answer is just about every type of shoe! Flats, heels, and even sneakers are all a go!!!! I actually love the sporty look with the LOFT sneakers. Click HERE for all LOFT shoes.
So, if you loved the above pants, but they bright fiery color scares you, well I’ve got great news for you! They also come in black!
Click HERE for the tech stretch skinny ankle fit Marisa pants in black! If you work in an office environment (and even if you don’t), these are a great pair of pants to have in your closet.
These are a classic black pant that everybody needs to have in their closet!
Pants in red HERE. Again, wearing a size 4 in these pants!
If you want these awesome pants in khaki or olive in the Marisa fit click HERE, if you want them in the Julie fit click HERE.
And the 2:1 sweater is DARLING!
I think it looks awesome with nice pants (and is totally office appropriate), but it would look just as awesome with jeans for casual wear!
Find the striped 2:1 sweater HERE.
The sweater material is thin (which makes it great for spring and even early summer), but not so thin that you would need a cami under it. And I forgot to take a picture of it, but there a cute little zipper on the back. For size reference, I am wearing a small in the sweater.
Here’s another blouse great for office wear as well as with jeans!
Find the floral charm bow neck blouse HERE.
For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in this blouse too. I wanted it plenty blousy
and not at all fitted. I have mine just knotted, but I would also like it tied in a pretty bow for a different look!
black pants HERE / jeans HERE
And now, a dress.
A DARLING, FLIRTY, and a little bit SEXY dress!
HOW FUN IS THIS DRESS?!?
Find the scuba flounce dress HERE!
Most sizes sold out, unless a petite works for you.
It comes in regular and petite, but I always like to get dresses in petite sizing. They just fit my frame better. Dresses and skirts are the only items I ever buy in petites.
For size reference, I’m wearing a 6P (which is pretty standard for me). I almost always have to size up in dresses.
Here are two close up pictures of the dress.
The dress is from their “scuba line” and the material is so soft, but it’s also nice and thick (but not cold weather thick). It hugs the body in all the right places, but it isn’t restrictive.
I absolutely love the little flouncy ruffle on the bottom.
I think if you threw a blazer over it and wore it with tights it could be office appropriate.
I think I’m going to wear it to an upcoming event with fun and colorful heels and fancy earrings!
Here’s another fun dress, but this one is way more casual!
Find the mini windowpane tee dress HERE.
For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small in the dress.
I thought it was so cute paired with my denim jacket (LOFT option HERE) and slip on sneakers (lots of LOFT sneaker options HERE)!
Note to self: start applying self-tanner asap.
And look at this pretty pink sweater!
It’s soft, feminine, and has the prettiest lace detailing on it!
Find the lace edge sweater HERE.
I would like to caution you, if you are tall, this sweater probably isn’t for you. I’m almost 5’4″ and it’s a great length for me (I like the shorter in the front, longer in the back look), but if you are over 5’5″, this sweater would probably be too short for you.
Same jeans as seen above, you can find them HERE.
And I’m sure you probably remember my camo pants obsession from last week?!?
You can get the modern skinny HERE (I have the modern skinny) and the curvy skinny HERE.
For size reference, I’m typically a 4, and my pants are a 27.
If you want to see the entire camo pants post I did last week, click HERE.
If you are ordering the pants from LOFT, then here are some LOFT options for tops that
all look great with the camo!
B, D, and E are all on SUPER SALE!!!!!
a) stitchy 2 in 1 sweater HERE / b) mixed striped tee HERE / c) collarless chambray shirt HEREd) black and white striped 2 in 1 sweater HERE
e) coral striped sweatshirt HERE
And I also thought you might want to see some of the items I tried on in store a couple of weeks ago.
All PERFECT for Spring!
Click HERE for this layered top. I’m always a sucker for navy.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the top.
Fabric necklace (also in yellow) HERE.
Find the navy pocket henley blouse HERE.
I think this blouse would also look great with THESE pants featured earlier!
Click HERE for this striped gauze softened shirt. I’m actually wearing a small in this (it’s VERY stretchy), and I actually would have preferred an x-small.
Find the mixed media tiered peplum HERE (also in blue and white!).
Find the cardi HERE (lots of different colors available).
It’s a GREAT basic cardigan to have and layer with tops all spring and summer!
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in both the top and the cardigan.
henley blouse HERE / tiered peplum HERE / cardi HERE
layered top HERE / fabric necklace HERE / gauze striped shirt HERE
OKAY GIRLS!
THAT’S IT!
NOW IT’S TIME TO LEAVE BLOG COMMENTS NOMINATING A SPECIAL MAMA!
As your leaving your comments, please keep in mind that the blog comments are moderated, so they will not immediately show up. I will publish them in batches throughout the day, but I’m chaperoning an all day KN field trip on Monday, so it might take me awhile to get them all published!
Also, please know that I wish I could respond to each comment!
The comments are almost always incredibly poignant and touching, and my heart is just so proud of these mamas!
I know all of you will be blessed by what you read and many of you will also feel compelled to pray for these mamas, these kids, and these families.
Also, remember that I will not be personally selecting a winner (how could I possibly?), so the rafflecopter will just randomly pick a name.
THANK YOU LOFT!
AND THANK YOU TO ALL OF THOSE SPECIAL MAMAS OUT THERE WHO SERVE AS SUCH AN INCREDIBLE INSPIRATION TO US ALL!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU DESERVING MAMAS!
(The winner will be announced on Friday’s post, and additional prizes will be revealed! GET EXCITED!!!)

Hi Shaeffer,
I have never posted before but always read your blog! Thanks for all of the great inspiration and for running such a perfect contest for so many deserving moms. I want to nominate my stepmom, Dolly. My half brother is 22 and has Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. Since he has been little, everything she has done has centered around Bry and never complains and always puts him and her family first. She would never go spend $1000 on herself-I'm sure she would be happy with a glass of wine and a full nights sleep! Until you see it first hand you don't know how a child with a terminal illness can change your families life. No more vacations, limited sleep and constant worry. Now being a mom myself I am constantly amazed by her selflessness and courage and feel so lucky she is a part of my life. Thank you! Kristin

Shaeffer, you look amazing and beautiful in that black dress!

My sweet adopted son has some special issues due to his prenatal history and each day we surrender our fears and worries and claim the name of healing & health over his life as he is a chosen, loved and cherished child of God (and us!). We love him so much so I wouldn't consider myself a "special" mama but a "blessed" mama to know God has trusted me to be his advocate and voice in a world where he needs all the help he can get. Love your blog! Thanks!

My name is Patrick Hardy. I want to nominate my wife Brooke. We have a three year old with severe apraxia and sensory processing disorder. Due to her efforts our child is starting to make progress and we hear his voice finally in word approximations. She takes him to three different therapy clinics for 15 hours a week of therapy and works with him all the time at home. She loves the loft and would love this!

This is such a sweet & thoughtful thing to do for your wife! Thank you for sharing your story, it made me tear up. Ptmt-thank you for your kindness towards these precious mommies!
Kathrine and Zac says
My son has SPD and gets OT and speech therapy. I was a teacher for 8 years and took a leave of absence so that I could take him to his speech therapy which was at awkward times. My job allowed me to work part time, but it was increasingly getting more difficult to schedule it. He would have major meltdowns due to his lack of communication skills. Finally, 3 years later, they are almost gone. He still goes as his articulation is terrible and he is now starting to stutters. Poor guy. Thankfully, he is a lovebug, loves Kinder and is an amazing son and big brother to his 2 younger brothers.

I nominate my dear friend Melanie Peters. She is a mommy to two beautiful girls with down syndrome. one she birthed and the other she adopted. God really broke her heart to adopt a child suffering with downs. She gives incredibly and endures lots of appointments and surgeries. I know she would feel so blessed and loved by this. Thanks Shaeffer for all you do. Melody Lietzau http://www.noahsheart.org

Thank you! I spend tons of time educating my daughters doctors, therapists, teachers, family, and friends to ensure her well being. Unfortunately, there is just not enough awareness out there for Prader-Willi syndrome. Thanks again! Take care!

I am nominating avid PTMT reader and special needs Mama, Carrie Welborn! Her amazing daughter has Cerebral Palsy and it such a light to our entire community, due to the wonderful attitude both she and her mama have in overcoming all challenges! Carrie is not only a hard working mama to her daughter and a toddler boy, but she also works full time as an elementary teacher – always loving on kids and working so hard to provide for her babies. She is so deserving! I am blessed to be her friend!
Michelle Geissler says
I would love to nominate my SIL Sara. She is a momma to (2) of my favorite little people. Ava is 6, and she has autism. Jake is 3, and he has some sensory challenges. Sara is such an amazing mom. I truly admire her and I would love to bless her with this gift. Thanks so much!
Jenny says
Thanks so much for doing this. As a mother of a son with autism, your post made me cry. My son Vincent is now almost 15 years old. There have been a lot of up and down emotions since we first received Vincent's diagnosis so long ago. I am a full time school nurse so I was fortunate to ask many speech therapists/special ed teachers/nurses/OT/PT/etc on their opinion to every thing related to Vincent. Almost all of my paid time off has been dedicated driving to countless appointments, therapies or support groups. I was pregnant with my daughter when we found out Vincent had autism so much of my daughter's first year is a blur as me and my husband were trying to keep our heads straight from the puzzlement that autism brought to our lives. I have survived many dirty looks I got from strangers when Vincent became overstimulated and threw one of his famous tantrums at the grocery store. Even though it has not been an easy road at all, I WOULDN'T TRADE AUTISM FOR THE WORLD. Because of Vincent's autism, I have learned so much. I have learned acceptance. I have learned equality for all. I have learned there is more than one way to be successful in life. I have learned to appreciate the little things. I cried the first time Vincent said he loved me (he was 5 years old and it happened on 2/28/06). The first time he initiated a conversation on his own, we celebrated by going out to dinner. The first time he did not melt down when he lost a video game, we all jumped for joy. Having autism in our lives has truly taught us major life lessons. Now Vincent is becoming a young man as a freshman in high school and I couldn't be more proud of him. If he didn't have autism then Vincent wouldn't be Vincent. He is who he is and I'm so proud of him and all his accomplishments. Thank you for paying special tribute to moms of special needs children. You make me very proud to have a son with autism!
Candace says
You look ADORABLE in that black dress!! I chuckled at your "hold on to your Hanky Pankies" comment! Maybe Andrea could make you a graphic with that. =) I really think it could be the PTMT code word for "sale alert." Just a thought.
Super excited about the ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR Loft give-away! You are so sweet to refer to my special day as one of your faves! An experience I treasure!
Since I didn't see anything about how many nominations we could do, here's my first (of 5).
I nominate my sister-in-law Jenna. She's quite amazing! Jenna and her husband, planted a church in PA, where she serves as the children's minister. She homeschools their two biological children. They foster a teenage girl. This last year, they felt God leading them to foster (to adopt) a boy with special needs. He has CP and autism. It can be challenging enough to have a special needs child that you birthed, but to choose to adopt a child with special needs…WOW!…a child that many would overlook, they chose him and long to provide a stable home for him. Amazes me. And Jenna has fibromyalgia. She's just a beautiful person who would never do this for her self. She's very selfless AND she's a Dave Ramsey nerd. =)
Anonymous says
My husband's step mother has fibromyalgia and she is very tired and has pains in her legs all the time. I'm amazed that your SIL can handle all that she has on her plate!
Lori says
I would like to nominate my hair stylist, Chelsea. While she was pregnant, she found out that her precious baby boy would be born with hydrocephalus. He is a year old now and it has been a year filled with hospital stays, surgeries, and celebrating small victories. She is such a beautiful girl, inside and out. She spends her days making others feel beautiful and I would LOVE for her to be on the receiving end of some pampering!
The Rohman Family says
Oh, yes ma'am, the black AND red are on their way to my doorstep!
Lauren B says
Ok, first I am a fellow SLP (in KC) and I totally relate to having a huge place in your heart for the kiddos AND the parents. I have a brother with Down syndrome…which led me to working in an area where I can help those with disabilities. Furthermore, I would like to nominate my MOM! My brother is now 15 and a freshman in high school! We are from a small community in Kansas where there are not many kids with disabilities. My mom, as amazing as she is, founded a society that encompasses North Central Kansas for those who have Down syndrome and their parents as a place of support and to spread awareness and promote inclusion. We hold Buddy Walks in our teeny town of 700…and they have grown from 50 participants to over 700! She has done amazing things for our community as an advocate for Down syndrome.
Candace says
I would also love to nominate my amazing friend, Paulette. Paulette has two children with autism, and one with anaphylactic allergies. She works like a dog, concocting nutritious meals for her children, and she's a genius at substituting ingredients that are safe for her children. Paulette survives on very little sleep since both of her kiddos struggle with sleep issues. The crazy thing is, that she is still kind and loving and funny because she has made a conscious choice to stay upbeat. She does without a lot so that she can take her kiddos to the top doctors and therapists and feed them good wholesome food. She is one of the smartest science-y mamas that I know. Marriage is tough. Marriage with a special needs kid(s) is tough. I admire the way that Paulette fights for her marriage. She sets up date nights and fun events with her hubby. I am a melancholy that can over-react at times, but I have learned so much by watching Paulette continue to choose joy over and over and over again. I've also learned a great deal from her about allergies. Sadly, we didn't really get the whole "no peanut classroom" thing until her. Learning that my kid can forgo a PBJ sandwich so that another kid can live, has been eye-opening. Let's get this lady some clothes!!! =)
Jaime says
I would like to nominate my friend Lauren. Lauren is the mother of almost 3 year old sextuplets, one of which has special needs. Lauren spends her days taking care of her children, running her home like a preschool and spending her “down” time, aka, nap time, doing one on one therapy with Leah, who has been diagnosed with cortical visual impairment and cerebral palsy. Lauren dials into conference calls weekly with doctors and therapists who specialize in Leah’s visual impairment to ask questions and learn about the latest research and therapy for children with this particular disability. Lauren works day end and day out with Leah’s eating and tolerating foods orally, celebrating when Leah eats and keeps down 1 tablespoon of food orally. Lauren does all of this day in and day out, making sure Leah is included in all activities, whether it be art time or pool time. In the midst of all of this, Lauren still finds time to run and participate in boot camps. Lauren truly is my hero…tackling life with a smile on her face!
Candace says
I'd love to nominate my hard-working friend, Heather. She has three children. Her oldest son has autism, she has a typically-developing middle kiddo, and just had a baby this summer. Heather and her hubby both work full-time. Heather is a special needs teacher in a classroom of teens with autism. She lives autism 24/7 at home and then drives to her day-job to invest in special needs kiddos there. Amazes me! It's so inspiring for me to see how she celebrates each of her children and who they are, while helping them be their very best. When Heather found out she was pregnant last year, she wanted to do a lot of things differently than she did with her first pregnancy. She totally cleaned up her diet and went with a mid-wife for this birth. I know people have been doing that for a long time, but still…to make such a drastic difference in order to be as healthy as possible. She may not want me telling her birth story, but I'll just say…SHE'S A BEAST!!!…in a good way. =) Heather and her hubby make sure their oldest son (and their whole family) eats clean and gets to the best doctors and therapists. They pay and extraordinary amount of money to help E be his very best. Heather goes without a lot of material things, but doesn't complain. That girl always finds something to smile about! She'd be adorable in some new clothes from the Loft!
Candace says
I'd like to nominate my big-hearted pal, Lea. Lea has a 6YO son with autism and severe speech delay. She works hard to get O to some amazing therapists and she celebrates BIG with any progress he makes. They started horse-back riding this past year, and I love seeing the joy on all of their faces as O has moved from fear to fondness of the equine. I am blown away by how much she researches and knows, AND that she doesn't keep that knowledge to herself. Lea was instrumental in starting the Texas chapter for Talk about Curing Autism, a support group for parents whose children have autism. She spends the vast majority of her "free time" encouraging and supporting parents. She's so good about vocalizing the tough stuff (with her close friends), but then moving on to find the good. And she's just a super cool chick whose silky, smooth, straight, dark hair would look gorgeous in some new duds!
Candace says
Last, but certainly not least, I'd love to nominate my dear friend, Leslie. Leslie has two kiddos. Her oldest has autism. I applaud Leslie because while she doesn't hide the tough parts of autism, she finds a ton to celebrate in life. She gets up at the crack of dawn most days to go to the gym for kick boxing. Even when her kiddo struggles with sleep, she still goes. Leslie has learned that working out manages her stress, and she feels better when she's healthier. Her son has a limited diet and she works hard to find healthy foods for him. She spends a great deal of her time helping to encourage and advocate for other special needs families. Leslie is a blogger for the Dallas Morning News, she is a TACA mentor, serves on McKinneyISD's support group board, and helps families prepare for ARDs. She's extremely giving of her time and she has a gift for looking on the bright side. She's someone you want as a friend because the girl will have your back. Autism can be lonely and isolating. Leslie and her kiddos have been a huge remedy for that in my life. I'm the planner introvert and Leslie is the easy-going extrovert. I come up with an idea, and she usually comes along. We live in the same area, which is convenient. Both of our boys have autism. And our two youngest are typically-developing and enjoy spending time together. I am so very grateful to have such a precious friend walk this road with and to drag along. =) And because she kick boxes and is buff, she would rock some new clothes from Loft!
Brent and Abigail says
I nominate my friend sandy a single mom to two young boys who have autism. The past few years haven't been easy for her navigating the path of autism for her boys and adjusting to single hood again but this woman is a rock and so strong. She embodies grace and is always so cheerful and sees the good in everything.

I would like to nominate my coworker Adriana. Adrian's is a mom to two beautiful girls, her oldest daughter has special needs. When Adriana is not at home with her girls she is working full time as a nurse. Home girl deserves a shopping spree!!!

I love this contest! I want to nominate our photographer, Lauren Michaels! Her daughter has a congenital heart defect. Lauren pours so much love, time, and talent into her clients lives that she deserves to be pampered!
Allison Ezell says
I would like to nominate Myra Koontz. She is an incredible mother of three that I met at MOPS with a very special needs 8-yr old. Although never given a specific single diagnosis, her daughter receives multiple therapies each week and is still on a g-tube. Myra is also a mother to a 10 and 4 year old, and she balances it all with tremendous poise, humor, and grace. Their family has recently lost a beloved family pet, and I think this would lift her spirits tremendously. Thanks, Shaeffer!

My sister Kara Vaughan is the definition of super mom! She is a stay at home mom to 4 kiddos, wife, and home school teacher to ky niece Gracr. Grace was born with hydrocephalus and was told she would be a vegetable. Well, my sister didn't listen to any of the doctors Who told her to abort her baby girl. Instead, she gave Grace a chance at a beautiful life. Fast forward 9 years, my sister has never missed one speech session, doctor appt, band performance, dance competition, etc. For any of her kids. She volunteers as a PTO mom in addition to everything else on her plate. She is extremely selfless and I know a shopping spree would make her feel so special. Thank you!!
~The Neaves Nest~ says
I would love to nominate my beautiful friend, Vicky. She is the mom to two previous girls, Marilyn, who has down syndrome, and Annabelle, who at 6 months was diagnosed with cancer. I'm so happy to report that as of a couple of months ago her now two year old is cancer free, but what a long road it was. Would love to see her win this giveaway as she's spent I don't know how many hours of her life dedicated to doctor appointments for both girls, chemo treatments and hospital stays. What a great way to treat such a deserving momma!
Paulette says
I would like to nominate my friend Cindy C. She is the mom to a little boy with autism and is always thinking about others. She is the friend who would drive through the cold rain at rush hour to bring your family soup and groceries when you are all sick. She deserves something nice for herself and the shopping spree would be perfect.
Paulette says
I would like to nominate my friend Sheryl D. She has a son with autism and many medical issues and I would really love for her to win this shopping spree to put a smile on her face.

I have 5 children through birth and adoption. Two of my children have special medical needs (heart condition and spina bifida). We have endured two major surgeries and have spent countless hours in therapies or hospital visits. There are many days when I hardly get to look in the mirror or take care of myself. But my children are an amazing blessing and I wouldn't trade my life for anything.

Hi Sheaffer. I love following your blog. I love even more that you are an SLP. I have a 9 year old boy with autism and he is almost non verbal with apraxia. I nominate myself.

I have an almost 5 year old with spina Bifida. We have spent his entire life in and out of the hospital. Last summer he went in for surgery in early July, and we almost lost him a few times. One surgery turned into 11 (20 since he was born), and we are still working on getting him healed.

I would like to nominate myself. I have almost 3 year old sextuplets, one of which has special needs. She has PVL, global delay, cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, and is tube fed due to severe reflux and oral aversion. I quit working to be a stay-at-home mom (full time job to say the least!) and spend my days balancing my daughters' special needs care, therapies, and doctor appointments with the needs of my other 5 toddlers. It's exhausting, chaotic, but fun too! I would love a Loft shopping spree as most of my clothes don't fit anymore and time/money to shop for me is pretty non-existent! Thanks for recognizing all special mamas out there!

I nominate me! My heart is touched by speech pathologists such as yourself. My 8 year old son lost 97% of his hearing due to sensorineural hearing loss this past year. He lost so much of his speech which we are slowly trying to repair with the help of a few specialists such as yourself. It has been a trial by fire for our family and a break from endless dr bills, speech and hearing aids would be such a welcome reprieve!

I would like to nominate myself. I hate to do it because I NEVER ask for help, but I could really use the LOFT gift card. My name is Karina and I have a daughter with special needs. Her name is Katie and she is 15, she's my miracle baby. She has a condition called Turner Syndrome. Turner Syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that only affects girls, my daughter has one less X chromosome than most girls. Because of her TS, she has a significant heart condition and will need a valve replacement when the time comes. She just finished her growth hormone shots after 11 years on them and has grown to exactly 5 feet tall, without the expensive hormones' she would have been 4'6". She also has a learning disability but she's such a trooper and she studies like crazy, she makes mostly A's and B's. She has a lot of other medical issues and if I win, I will describe more of my precious miracle to you.
If I win, I will share the gift card with her, she is such a fashionable girl and would love to go shopping with me.
Thanks for hosting this contest! I love reading your blog and have tried many of your Pinterest inspired outfits.

I would like to nominate myself. I have 2 boys in speech therapy. My youngest has a processing delay. My oldest started out with a sign infant delay, and a diagnosis of PDD NOS. However, after a year spent with a wonderful speech therapist, she realized he was developing hearing loss. The short version….. He ended up with a very serious condition that required 3 major surgeries over a year and a half. After eventually receiving an implant, he now has almost normal hearing, and is doing wonderful in school. He speech previous diagnosis no longer applies to him

I would like to nominate my childhood friend's sister Nissa. Nissa has had unspeakably difficult year–she had her 13 year old son come home sick from school one day and while resting he fell into a coma from which he never emerged–turns out he had a previously unsymptomatic brain tumor. A surgery was performed but sadly he never woke up from the coma and died 2 days before Christmas. Several month's later Nissa's father was diagnosed with colon cancer and he died within a couple of months as well–two unspeakaby tragic losses within less than one year. On top of that Nissa's surviving son is autistic–he couldn't be sweeter but as you might imagine he has had a tough time with these losses.

You have the cutest blog! I have 6 year old boy/girl twins who were born at 32 weeks. My son was in the nicu for 3 months at birth and has been in and out of the hospital several times since birth. He was diagnosed with CP and developmental delay and also has seizures he has been getting PT, OT, and ST therapy weekly since he was 4 months old. He is nonverbal and is beginning to use a LAMP communication board (I'm sure you are familiar with that!). He has been a huge blessing in our life and God has used my son's circumstances to bring me closer to Him. Thank you for this giveaway!

Just wanted to give you a cyber hug. I'm the mom of twins too- 28-week preemies. My son has severe CP and severe CVI, epilesy…the whole nine yards. He doesn't talk, sit up or crawl, and we're told he'll never be able to communicate well, but we are trying to start using some kind of system for communication too (visual issues make this hard). We have so many therapies and doctor's appointments every week-plus the stuff just to make him happy like music together. Like you say, he's a blessing and a gift, and I am grateful for everything he accomplishes. -Jessica

I wouldn't normally nominate myself but my wardrobe could use some help! My youngest son, sweet Hayes was born a year ago with an unexpected and very rare seizure disorder as well as a developmental delay. After spending the first 3 months in the hospital, he's been home, healthy and happy! Most of our time is spent going to therapy, routine dr. Appts and picking up medical supplies. Always exhausting but I can't imagine life without all of these things. Such a blessing it is to be a mommy to a child like Hayes

I'm so excited to nominate my Aunt Lynn! She's raised my cousin Scott (who is now 30) who has a number of special needs. Though he will live with her and my uncle for his whole life, she looks at the situation with a glass half full approach and loves that she will always get to enjoy his company! She taught him how to earn and maintain a full-time job at Jiffy Lube, she homeschooled him from Preschool through graduation, and she's taken him to travel the world. I could go on and on about how truly remarkable they both are! She's going on a short "getaway" cruise with my mom in April, and I would die for her to receive this gift card to buy a new wardrobe for her trip.
Ashley Bradford says
Okay…I have the perfect mama to nominate! Her name is gerrie Bourque and she is the epitome of a selfless special needs mama! As we speak she has spent the last week on the hospital with her son who has both autism and Down syndrome and they will be there for a minim of 10 more days healing from an emergency surgery on his colon and intestines. She is hiding advocate as it is very hard for him to communicate verbally. She would be the perfect candidate to be honored in this way!

Hi! I would nominate myself. I am the mother of a 7 time pediatric Stroke Survivor. My sweet Hallie girl has a very rare newly diagnosed disease, DADA2. But despite her challenges the Lord has miraculously restored her little body and she is doing well now! She was paralyzed, but Now she walks, runs etc. she has been fighting this disease the 9 years of her life, and it has led her to have a deep knowledge of her Lord, Jesus. He has drawn us all closer to Himeslf through Hallie. I'm honored to be her mom and only hope I please the Lord by stewarding my children in a way that makes Him proud.

I'm nominating my oldest sister! Cheryl and her husband tried for SEVERAL years to get pregnant but couldn't. So they decided to adopt. They have adopted two boys and a little girl. The boys are actually half brothers. When their mom discovered she was pregnant with the second, she called the adoption agency and asked if my sister would be willing to take her other little boy:) Ethan was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when he was 5. Since then she has taken him to thousands of therapy sessions and doctors appointments. Her speech and OT therapist were an hour away so two or three times a week she was driving him plus their other two kids to therapy. Cheryl even took him out of school at second grade and started homeschooling him so he could recover the one on one attention he needed. She now homeschools him and his brother:) She started researching and realized changing their diet might help Ethan. So for the past three years they've been gluten free, dye free, etc. She struggled with it at first but now it's second nature. She has started using essential oils to help him and He's flourished! Ethan is now 11 and turning into such a wonderful preteen. He is compassionate, smart and loves Jesus. His prayers are so honest and raw. I love to hear him talk to Jesus. When my daughter started having some speech and Moter skill delays, Cheryl helped me through the world of therapies as much as she could. She's listen to me cry, complain and rejoice! I feel like my sister deserves this not only because she's an amazing mom but because she still has clothes in her closet from the 90s. She desperately needs a closet makeover:) Thank you for doing this!!! I read your blog every day and I couldn't wait to nominate my sister this year!

I nominate myself! I taught kindergarten and 2nd grade for 8 years and when my son was 2 he went through the child study process with speech and fine motor delay. I quit my job to stay home with him so he could make it to his therapy sessions each week. I have sacrificed a lot staying home with him but he is meeting his IEP goals and has come a long way! I couldn't be more proud of grateful to be his tired momma!!! And huge hugs to all the other mommas.

Thrilled you are re-doing this from last year! I am a single mom to an amazing little boy (8yrs..so not so little anymore) who has autism/ADHD and a few little other quirks thrown in there. He attends an amazing school that "gets him", but socially building friendships at school has been a struggle. I am grateful that we have an amazing group of friends outside of school to lean on for support. We have rough days, but amazing days as well and I could not be prouder of my "little" man.

I'm nominating Sandra Stotler! She recently moved from Ohio to Oregon because her husband was asked to come pastor a church genre. She has 4 kids and her oldest son has autism. She is an awesome momma that takes him to therapy and implements it at home! I would also like to nominate Amanda Clark. She's from Tennessee and about 2 years ago her sweet girl was diagnosed with 3 inoperable brain rumors! This momma and her sweet family are fighting this cancer with the help of he Lord! She is constantly on the go with the therapy appointments, chemo and radiation! Both are fabulous moms!!

I would love to nominate my friend Nancy. She and her husband have 4 daughters from their 20's to their teens. Then they had baby Jake. Jake was a surprise. The fact that Jake has Down's syndrome was another surprise. But the biggest surprise was how Jake would complete her family and provide them with such a special guy to love. I love the fact that he has 4 big sisters who love him to pieces as well!
Nancy and her husband Chris work extremely hard to provide Jake with all the care he needs. Although he is now 8 he needs constant care. You would think they would just want some time to their selves at the end of the day, but this doesn't stop Nancy and Chris from volunteering at church and helping others. Nancy is the head of our care ministry at church. She has a full plate and yet she is always helping. She also has helped start a Caperneum ministry at our church. It is a Young Life group for those who have special needs. Nancy is helping MANY families with special needs while dealing with her own families challenges.
There are so many mamas out there dealing with special needs kids. I love the fact that you are honoring them by hearing their stories. Thanks Schaeffer!

I would like to nominate my friend, Morgan Cheek. She is a young, amazing mother to twin girls with special needs. Her husband, Hugh, is a pediatrics resident with my husband, and both of them are incredible examples of Christ despite the struggles and hardships they encounter. They are such a blessing to many, and Morgan would be so surprised and excited for a shopping spree so that she could take a little time away, just for herself. She is also an amazing writer.. you should check out her blog! hishandshisfeethisheart.com

Nominating my sweet sister, Mindi! Her son (my nephew) who is now 12-has autism low muscle tone and PDD disorder. She teaches first grade full time and NEVER does a thing for herself! To make matters worse they live so far from family and her husband has to travel and be gone for multiple days in a row for his job. Id love for her to win. She always goes above and beyond for her family and students but puts herself last. What a neat thing you are doing! I love your blog! Very inspiring for outfit funk!

I'd like to nominate my mom Donna. My sister is deaf and had other special needs that require a lot of time and attention. And she loves the loft. This giveaway would be perfect for her!

I would LOVE to nominate my dear friend Lauren Perkins. She's the momma to almost 3 year old SEXTUPLETS and one of her little girls, Leah, has ongoing special needs with CP and visual issues. Lauren works around the clock to not only take impeccable care of her other 5, but to ensure that Leah has everything she needs in the way of therapy, doctor's appointments, one-on-one time and so much more. She is my hero!

I am nominating myself. I am a Momma to 4 children. 9 year old boy, Colton 7 year old little girl, Carmyn. And 4 year old twin girls, Aubrey & Addyson.
My 7 year old, Carmyn, has a genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome. A rare genetic disorder that affects 1 in 20,000 births. Carmyn is non verbal, seizures, trouble walking, trouble self feeding (chokes easily ), not potty trained. She is very dependent on us all. She was born perfect. No signs. As she got older and didn't meet her milestones, we realized she had something wrong.
I homeschool my children. The school system was not one I could send Carmyn into. Carmyn is a joy to be around and always has a smile on her face!
Thank you for doing this. So many wonderful & weary Mommas out there that are so deserving.

I wish to nominate Kirsten Davis of Amarillo. "Kirki" as I have called her since seventh grade is a mom to 3 amazing children with special needs. Her 2 sons both have autism. Kirsten has done everything she can on her limited budget to give these kids a great life. She is not on an advocate for her own children but for any child with autism. I have taught school for 15 years and when I have what I call one of my unique boys, she is who I go to for guidance and support. She after all has lived with autism for over 15 years every single day. She has has a rough life herself from childhood having lost her dad in high school. I know this is about mamas, but not only has she raised her 3 special needs kiddos she also shares a duplex with her mom who has been blind since childhood. Kirki gives her energy, time, and love to those around her in her family who need it more. I know money is tight and doesn't every girl need a little extra cash to shop, shop, shp!

I am nominating myself. I am a mom to a special needs little boy who has autism, speech apraxia, and a general developmental delay (unsure at this time). We are currently working to get him an AT device to help as he has very few words. I would love to win as I also just had a little boy (4 months) and nothing in my closet fits! Not to mention, Loft has been my FAVORITE store for years.

I nominate Christina Marrero- she has a darling daughter who will be 6 years old in April named Trinity with an unspecified cell disorder disease. Trinity does not walk or talk; however her parents and our church body are believing for this little girl to be healed. Her mama is amazing and her love for her daughter is relentless. I'd love for her to win this shopping spree!

I would love to nominate my friend Staci, her daughter has CP and was diagnosed at birth, this was a normal pregnancy so very shocked learning of the diagnosis. The same year sweet Raegen was born, Staci lost her father to massive heart attack, and their house caught fire and was a total loss. Needless to say that was a very rough year for them! Staci has never shopped a high end clothing store, she typically shoppes clearance at Walmart and target stores. I know she would enjoy the shopping spree.
Thank you for thinking of special moms, being a good mom is a very hard "job" to have.

I would like to nominate my dear friend, Stephanie Mullen. Her daughter, Sam, has autism and Stepahnie works tirelessly as her #1 advocate. She spends countless hours and $ providing her the therapies that are helping her make major breakthroughs. She never complains and she never spends a penny on herself. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this awesome gift. You are wonderful for doing it and I love your blog!!

She would be overwhelmed with gratitude and so surprised to win!

Hi! I would like to nominate my dear friend, Leah Yeglin. Leah's son, Jacob, was born with a cleft lip. Although Jacob is only ten months old, the things a cleft parent has to endure in the first year is unmeasurable. Leah has had the most positive attitude throughout this year. She now counts Jacob's cleft as a blessing. Leah has spearheaded the first ever Cleft Smiles 5k in Houston. So far we have raised enough money to help over 50 underprivileged children receive free cleft surgeries. Leah has been able to plan this run, even though she has the burden of upcoming surgeries, speech delays, dental issues, hearing loss and more for her sweet Jacob. She has been an inspiration to me (my daughter was born with a cleft palate) and as a working mom, Leah deserves to be recognized. She is doing so much for others and I want her to have something special for herself. Thank you 🙂

I have a special mom to nominate -although she may not fit what you are looking for- she also might be perfect!
She is my sister-in-law. Her name is Dawn.
Dawn and Ryan are parents to 3 biological sons, and an adopted daughter from Kenya. They were missionaries in Africa. Ryan worked as an airplane mechanic for the small bush planes that take missionaries into the heart of Africa to do their service (AIM Air is the name of the mission).
Five years ago, Ryan left for work on a Saturday. He kissed Dawn and the kids good-bye. While at work, he fixed a plane, and then hopped in to take a ride on the plane. The plane crashed. He suffered 3rd degree burns over 80% of his body and died 6 days later, on his eldest son's 8th birthday. He left Dawn behind with an 8, 6, 4, and 3 year old.
Since then, Dawn has remained strong and courageous. Her children have suffered great depression, ADHD, learning difficulties and struggle with anger. Although they are not autistic or severe in their needs, their needs are large for this single mama trying to make ends meet and deal with these issues on her own. She does not have a lot of money, yet she continues to seek psychiatric help for her kids and do what is right as their mother (and father). I know her stress is huge and her burden is heavy.

My mom has devoted her entire life to caring for Trevor who is now 29 years old. Trevor is in a wheelchair and requires assistance for all daily activities. For the past 29 years, my mom has been Trevor's personal caretaker along with raising my sister and I! Oh, and she owns a shoe store! My mom is an amazing mother with the biggest heart and has always put our family before herself. She absolutely deserves this shopping spree!

I would like to nominate myself. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with autism 2 1/2 years ago. She was completely non verbal, and with the help of many, many different therapies, she makes strides every single day. I have such a huge amount of respect and love for SLP and other therapists, without their dedication to these kids such as mine, I'm not sure where we would be. It's been such a difficult few years but knowing the therapies, diets, etc is making a difference with my daughter, it keeps us going. Hi! I'm nominating my sweet friend Allison Alcott who has a 5 month old with Down syndrome. When she had Cooper, his diagnosis was not expected. After delivery he immediately had blood sugar issues, and was taken to the nursery pretty quickly. The next day he began choking and was moved to the nicu. Soon after Allison got the news that her sweet boy had Down Syndrome. After spending more than a month in the nicu, Cooper finally got to come home. I have so admired Allison and the way she handled this unexpected news. While the easy thing would've been to want to crawl in a hole a pout about his diagnosis, she handled it (and all other obstacles that seemed to be continuously thrown at her his first month of life) with such grace! She has another young son, and my heart broke for her when she was dealing with dividing her time with wanting to be by her baby's side in the nicu but also at home with her toddler. I never once heard her complain, but instead she was ALWAYS thinking positively. While many would've been asking God "why?!" she was thanking him for a beautiful baby! She's a working mom as well, and SO deserves this!

I'm nominating my sister Lynn whose daughter, Hope, has Downs Syndrome. Lynn and Joe have two other children also. Hope was recently very sick and was hospitalized. She had undergone many invasive tests. With the love of her family and a miracle, Hope is back to being herself. While hope was hospitalized, Lynn had to make the choice of being with her daughter or going to work to help support her family. And unfortunately work won out many times and others stepped forward to be with Hope. Lynn works tirelessly to make Hope's life normal and wonderful as possible all while working full time and raising two other children. Lynn spends no money on herself and would so deserve this shopping spree at Loft.

I am nominating my friend Mandi Calhoun. She is a stay at home mom and photographer. I met here a few years ago through my husband, but over the last 2 years I have become very close with her. Right after I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I put my name in to win a newborn photo session with her. At that time she had also just found out she was expecting her second child. Our daughters are about a month apart. Mandi and I are in a mommy group together. We call ourselves the "Village" because it takes one to raise a child. Without these ladies I would be a hot mess and lost. In 2014 Mandi's son Bailey was diagnosed with Autism. She blogged about it for the first time ever this past fall on her website. I have posted the link below. Mandi is so strong, and I don't know how she does it. She balances two children and photography business. I recently had to call her to get her opinion on a GI issue my daughter was having, and she didn't hesitate to take time to talk to me. She is so caring and giving. She really doesn't need a makeover because she dresses way better than I do. Mandi is a mom that is special to me because of all that she does for her family, her "village", her clients and her community. I am so excited to see how much joy you bring to a mom each month!

I would like to nominate Victoria Linton. Her little girl has a condition where she does not feel pain, as well as many other delays and problems. Because of the condition, the little girl often injures her corneas and injures her body in many ways. It is heartbreaking when her mom shares these injuries on her FB page, so I can't imagine how painful it is to the Mom. On top of her daughter's challenges, Victoria also found out that she had the BRCA1 gene and is still healing from a double mastectomy surgery in January. Thanks for the awesome contest! -Katie Van Vooren

Thank you so much for doing this! 3 of my 4 kiddos had speech/language delays. My oldest has since been released from therapy, but the twins are still delayed. The same 3 also have severe food allergies, which affects us daily. The cost of eating safely is astronomical for us. We can't eat out. Ever. Food allergies are a life-threatening condition, that many people don't understand. Hopefully someday there will be a cure. Have a great week, and thanks again 🙂

I am nominating my friend Natalie who is an amazing mother to her son Garrett. He has a very serious heart condition, and she has fought for him every second of his life. She is INCREDIBLE and deserves to be pampered!
Jeff Barnosky says
My wife, Jen, is the most amazing mother for many, many different reasons. Two years ago, she donated a part of her liver to save the life of our son, Liam who had Biliary Atresia and would have died without a transplant. There aren’t words to describe how much Jen does for us on a daily basis–working unbelievably hard to support us, for one–but I will never forget watching her suffer through intense pain and trauma for an entire summer while she and Liam recuperated. I will never be able to say thank you enough, or describe how deeply I appreciate what she did–but I would love for her get recognized at every chance possible. As Liam continues to do well, and Jen has recovered from her surgery, it’s easy to forget how hard it was, how much pain she was in, how worried she was about Liam. I wish I could recognize her every moment of every day, and thank her just as much, but I can’t. I just want the world to know how unspeakably great she, and what she did for Liam, is. She is the most amazing person I’ve ever met and my hero.

My four year old son was diagnosed with autism at age 2. I spend hours every day working with him on ABA therapy, speech, and OT. I love my son with all of my heart. He is a gentle, sweet boy. He is non-verbal but has been trying to speak of late. With all that is on my plate I rarely have a moment to myself. Winning this would be such a treat!

I would like to nominate Paige Strawn. She has 4 kiddos, one of which has downs syndrome, and still manages to own her own business. She is an amazing Christian and keeps such a positive outlook on life at all times. I think she is superwoman and admire her poise!

i nominate my Mama! She is extremely selfless and never did much updating on her wardrobe (though she has great taste) b/c she wanted my twin & I to have everything we wanted/needed! She always spent so much time helping us pick out items and spend countless hours shopping (along w/ our patient daddy)! A spending spree would be SUCH a special treat for her!

I would like to nominate my much deserving sister. Her son Andrew has SEVERE Autism. He is going to be 10 in March and he does not say even one word. It's heartbreaking. He is such a cute little peanut, but we just always wonder what's going on in his sweet brain. She has used all her money to send him to ABA academy full time since the age of 2. He also does OT and Speech at home. He is now potty trained and is starting to use an ipad to communicate. This has taken so much of her money and I know a Loft gift card would be so exciting for her. When Andrew was 2, her husband decided he was done and started cheating on her. They divorced and she has Andrew almost all the time. 3 years ago she met a great guy and they married 2 years ago. He has been such a positive influence and loves my nephew like his own. But their extra money goes to help with schooling and doing what they can to help insure Andrew will have care in the future. Thank you for doing this for all the special mommies out there.

I would like to nominate my best friend and mama ! She has raised 6 children. My younger sister has Down Syndrome. She has dedicated her life selflessly taking care of her. She now not only looks out for my sister but helps my father who had a stroke a couple years ago. She is definitely deserving! She never complains. She tells me the Lord never gives you more than you can handle.

I pray everyday I can be even a percentage of the mother she is. She lifts everyone's spirits around her when we should be doing that for her. Her positive disposition is contagious. She never does anything for herseld. Everything she does is for those 3 kiddos. She juggles all the struggles, stresses and everyday to do's like a rock star! I love you jamie and those three kids are so lucky to have you! As are we ALL!

This gift card would really lift her spirits!

I would like to nominate Lorrie Robertson. She has 8 children and the youngest one has Downs Syndrome along with many other health conditions that forced her to stay in Vanderbilt for over a year with heart surgeries. She was home schooling the school age children, but had to send them to public school this year due to the demands that the youngest child required. She has dealt with these burdens by relying on her faith in God! She is a great example of God's servant! This gift card would be a blessing to her!

I'm nominating my friend Sara. She has two children with special needs. Both of her children have a rare chromosomal disability called Wolf Hirschorn Syndrome. She has to care for her young children around the clock. They can't communicate with her, so she has to constantly watch for seizures, and other issues that may arise. She's amazing, and so are her kids. Sara really deserves this.

Moments after birth, our oldest son Aiden (now six) was diagnosed with down syndrome. We were young and scared but nothing could have prepared us for the blessing he has become. He makes us better people and parents. He is now the oldest of three kids and is adored by everyone. We spend countless hours with PT, OT and speech and could not be more grateful for our "team." The expenses of a diagnosis, paired with three small kids, often puts the needs of my husband and me on the back-burner. Thank you for this opportunity.

I would like to second an earlier nomination of my amazing friend, Lea. Meeting her has been such an incredible blessing in our journey through Autism with our son. She is always willing to share her incredible knowledge ( this girl knows as much or more than any doctor we have met with), and experience with all those around her. More than anything, her bond with her mostly nonverbal son is beautiful, inspiring, and most importantly evidence that love is louder than words.

I would love to nominate my cousin Emily! She is absolutely amazing. She has spent so much time caring for her two special needs children, along with her other three kids and hasn't spent much time on herself. She has also had her share of personal health struggles and surgeries. I would love for her to be able to feel loved and pampered. She absolutely deserves this. I am amazed at the amount of love and patience that mothers of special needs children have. Thanks for offering this giveaway. ~Alicia in AZ

I’d like to nominate my daughter, Meghan. She has a five-year-old son with autism. She is so crazy about him and works with teachers and parent trainers on his behavior and helping him understand how to communicate with others. He is extremely smart, but has difficulty with social interaction, communicating and sensory overload which leads to meltdowns and loud outbursts among other things. In addition, she mothers her seven-year-old stepdaughter and 23 students in a Title 1 school, many of whom also have behavior disorders and learning disabilities. She also deals with her own neuropathy received after childbirth, which is numbness in her feet and hands at the very least. She does all this with grace, compassion and a sense of humor.

I would like to nominate my sweet friend Suzanne Hess. She is a beautiful, loving mother to 3 biological girls and 1 boy who they adopted from China. Their precious boy was born with a cleft lip and palate. The family's call to adopt and face challenges for helping their son is a true testimony to their faith. Suzanne has so much love for Jesus, her family and those of us who know her. I'm blessed beyond measure that our paths have crossed:)

I'm nominating a friend, Melissa Powell. We met in college and she ended up being my wedding photographer. She and I were pregnant at the same time last year, when she learned during her 2nd trimester that her baby had Trisomy 13. She and her husband stayed strong in their faith in God, even when doctors were telling them that they were candidates for late-term abortion and telling them that their daughter would either be stillborn or have only minutes of life due to medical complications of Trisomy 13 once she was born. They were thrown through the emotional ringer…they actually had to plan their unborn baby's funeral. I am in awe of the strength that she an her husband have shown. Through the grace of our Lord, that baby girl THRIVED. She does have Trisomy 13, and has some hearing issues, but her health is thriving and all of their doctors tell them how remarkable she is. That baby girl who they were told was "incompatible with human life" is getting ready to celebrate her 1st birthday next week! If Melissa would win this (come on, rafflecopter!! haha) I know it would be a sweet treat for her after a challenging, emotional, and rewarding year and a half that they have had. You can read more about their story here: http://www.lovingavonlea.com/

I'd like to nominate my best friend Kristin Kimlin. She has four children under six and her very first son was born with a chromosomal disorder. His name is Douglas and he is six years old. He basically is stuck in a 2 month old state. He cannot lift and hold his head up and he cannot do anything himself. He cannot speak, only grunting or loud noises and not able to communicate. He has seizures multiple times per day and was on an oxygen machine his first few years. His mama is always home with him and taking him to many appointments monthly. She never ever complains. She stays up with him when each night he screams and cries at ten pm for a long time. Kristin bought a dress for herself for her birthday this year – she hasn't bought anything for herself clothes or accessories for as long as I've known her. That's why I am trying to help her out here. She needs to take some time to be a woman for her own self and her happiness. Thank you for such an amazing opportunity for all special needs mothers out there. It's really truly special and kind of you. Good luck to everyone!

I am a blessed mom of three, two daughters and a son with an intellectual disability who is also nonverbal. Each day is a mix of frustrations and sheer joy. Our son has taught us what true happiness really is, what truly matters! Although friends, family outings, and other luxuries are few and far between, we've come to adjust and to love our lifestyle. I pray daily that God will bless our son with the gift of speech and continue to allow his motor skills and behavior to progress. Thanks so much for the gift card that someone will receive!

I am nominating my sister, Sara Moreland. Her middle child was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome years ago. But before the diagnosis she (along with her husband, Matt) searched and searched for answers to help him. No stone was left unturned. And ever since then they have worked tirelessly and sacrificed much to give ALL of their kids everything that they need. She home schools all 3 of them now and my nephew has made so much progress with the help of therapists but more importantly my sister. Sara would NEVER pat herself on the back or even look at herself as something special. But she is and I know she would love this shopping spree!!

I would like to nominate my sister-in-law Bekah. She and my brother made me an aunt, and my precious niece has Down Syndrome. She is turning 2 in a couple of months and while she has many challenges, she is doing so well and has taught us so much about pure joy and love. Bekah works as a licensed mental health counselor and is also pregnant with baby #2, who is due shortly after my niece's 2nd birthday. My brother is a pastor and I know they don't have a lot of extra money to spend on clothes. Having this gift would be a great encouragement for her post-baby as she works to balance a newborn with my sweet niece!

I nominate Robin Wigdahl. This amazing Mama to 3 amazes me everyday. Her middle is diagnosed with autism, Tourette's, and an anxiety disorder. The combination of these impairments have the potential to completely cripple a family, but Robin manages to keep herself and her family as "normal" as possible. She is proactive and such an amazing advocate for her sweet daughter. She started a home program for her daughter which lead to her daughters ability to communicate her wants/needs verbally and her ability to excel academically beyond what she had imagined. I met this family in my undergraduate program in speech language and hearing and have continued to work with their daughter through my graduate program in speech language pathology. Robin has been present for her family through all of her daughter's diagnoses and is a joy to be around. She is an amazing woman of God and her strength, intelligence, and empathy are just a few of her admirable qualities. (And her birthday was yesterday so this would be awesome timing!!)

He's doing amazing and has finally started giving her a few words to go along with his winning smile but it's just a matter of time before the muscles he's worked so hard to strengthen start to atrophy. My 10 year old daughter, Alanah, was diagnosed with tourettes syndrome/Anxiety/OCD at age 6 and was also born with Hip Dysplasia and has had 5 major surgeries in her 10 short years. I have the honor of nominating my sister, Shannon Lumpkin. She is a working mother to two amazing children. Blaze, her 10 year old son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4 and a few months later her daughter, Greenlee, was diagnosed with having sickle cell traits. Our family immediately rallied around her but she amazed us all when she dove in head first taking charge of making sure Blaze has the best education possible. She drives him 45 minutes one way to an elementary school that is equipped to help him throughout the day. They attend speech therapy two days per week and just completed occupational therapy. She sits on Autism boards and is the most amazing advocate her children could have. We are so proud of her and I know this gift would be an amazing blessing for her.

I want to nominate Dessie Reed. Her daughter has been in class with my son since kindergarten. She has many disabilities, has had many surgeries, and several health scares that have had all of us praying. Through all of this, Dessie remains positive and smiling. She has told us that before her daughter was born, the doctors didn't think she would live, or that she wouldn't be able to function. I've taken this little girl (now a teenager) with me on field trips and listened to her talk about boys, movies, and wanting to be a fashion designer. She more than functions – she is a teenager! She has overcome so many odds and wins the hearts of everyone she meets. I'm purposely not using her daughter's name because I'm sure she likes her privacy. 😉 Dessie takes her daughter to countless therapy appointments and check ups at the children's hospital that is hours away. This past fall, her daughter was only able to attend school for half days due to health issues, but Dessie still stays positive and never lets on that she is worried or anxious. Dessie has worked at my daughter's elementary school as a kindergarten aide, and now as the school secretary. She always greets my daughter as "Princess Emma," draws crowns on her band-aides when she comes in from recess with a skinned knee, and on the first day of kindergarten (when Emma cried), she texted me to tell me that she was "happy and bouncy" after I left. Dessie treats every child that walks into that school like a rock star. When they come into the office, she acts like they have made her day by showing up at school. This lady has given so much of herself for her daughter, and she gives daily to other children. I would love to see her win the LOFT prize!

Ok, I'm nominating myself. I feel weird doing it, but gosh darn it…I could use that shopping spree! I've been reading (and loving) your blog for a couple years now. 🙂 I have a five and a half year old son with many special needs. He was born with a serious and rare congenital heart defect that required several surgeries (including open heart surgery) before he was even two years old. In addition, he only has one lung. He also has very poor vision and got glasses at age two. On top of (and because of) all of his medical conditions, he has developmental delays (gross motor, fine motor, speech, social skills…etc.) He also has SPD. He has not been diagnosed as having ASD, but some of his behaviors are very similar. We see many therapists, he has an IEP at school, does equine therapy…etc. and he's actually doing REALLY well. But it is so tiring as a momma. And I sometimes feel I don't have time to spend with my two year old (healthy, typically developing) daughter. And after reading these comments, I am really jealous of the people who said they (or their friends) have friends who also have kids with special needs that they can relate to. I have yet to find that where I live. Most of my friends kids are typically developing and healthy. It's hard to find someone who understands and can relate. Ok, that's my story. And of course, a shopping spree would be excellent therapy for momma!

Thank you Sheaffer for this contest! I am nominating my dear friend Julie Lally. Julie is quite possibly the most selfless person I have ever known. She is a the momma to two amazing young boys, Cameron and Evan. Evan has severe autism and his weeks are filled with lots of therapy each and every day. Julie works as a public relations specialist but always puts Evan's needs above her own. In addtion to this, Julie and her husband Ryan have raised tens of thousands of dollars for SIDS research and awareness. Their first child, Madison, died at the age of 3 weeks from SIDS. The amount of emotional and physical energy it takes to keep the Lally ship moving along is beyond my comprehension and she does a beautiful job without complaint. On top of all of this, Julie is an amazing friend to many. Julie would be a super recipient for this contest!

She could really use a break!!!
Ansleighsmom says
I second that Mollie is one of the most positive people I know and has been handed some rough times over the last few years and she always looks at everything with such a class half full outlook! She is such an inspiration and hilarious at that! She would be so deserving of this! Such a great momma to her two boys!!
Heather says
I nominate my sweet friend Melissa, who has three boys all with varying degrees of special needs – autism spectrum, and growth development struggles. She's also suddenly become the sole breadwinner on a very tight income. I know she would absolutely LOVE to finally get to shop for herself!! Great contest, by the way.
Alexis says
I was going to nominate myself because my 2 yr old has some delays and has been in ST, OT, PT and DT for over a year and juggling all of that is very time consuming, however, after reading some of these stories, I'm truly touched by the love and care spoken of in the rest of these comments. So if my comment is picked by the rafflecopter, pick again please! (Hopefully that's okay, I already clicked "I commented" in the giveaway before reading the entries.)
Sarah Yoder says
Hi Sheaffer!! I would love to nominate one of my closest girl friends, Anna Dietzen! She is an incredible mama to three sweet babies, with her oldest two boys having special needs! Anna loves her boys so much, pushes them to be the best they can be, is their greatest advocate, and makes sure she does everything in her power to create the best environment for her sweet boys to succeed! She and her husband are incredible parents and are using their story to impact and inspire so many people in a positive light! She is so deserving of this amazing give away? Thanks so much for your heart for all of these incredible mamas!

I nominate Amanda Hill. Her son and daughter both have autism and she is an amazing momma and so deserving of this! Thanks for the contest!
Megan says
This is amazing. I would like to nominate myself. I feel so strange doing that! I have a nine year old daughter with Down syndrome. She's "come a long way, baby" but it isn't always an easy road. She's the feistiest kid that I know (and her teachers would probably agree!) I also have two typically developing boys, so they all keep me busy!
Megan says
I would also like to nominate my friend Tena. Tena has three children with special needs. Her oldest son has a rare syndrome called RTS. He's 12. She then has 2 typical children and then twin girls with muscular dystrophy. Talk about having your hands full!

Hi Sheaffer!! I would like to nominate my dear friend Joann Miller. Jo is mom to sweet Lilly who is a special needs 10 year old rockstar! Lilly had surgery in November 2014 to place a metal rod in her spine. She has been laying on her back ever since for recovery. This had not only been difficult on Lilly but her parents as well. I would LOVE for Jo to have the opportunity to do something wonderful for herself. When you take care of everyone else around you, it's nice to be recognized and have the opportunity to spoil yourself! Much love and admiration for ALL of the special needs Moms in this world. You are appreciated and loved more than you will ever know!

I nominate my friend Carrie Welborn who actually introduced me to this blog 🙂 She's a precious momma to 2 kiddos (one with physical challenges from preterm birth). She a great friend and one of the most amazing teachers you will ever meet.
Angie Nayfa says
Carrie Welborn – amazing mother to 2 (one who has physical challenges from a very early birth), a dear friend of mine who introduced me to this blog, and one of the best teachers ever!
Jennifer Conley says
I am nominating my mom Trina. She is the most caring, loving, understanding beautiful person I know. She is a mother of three, myself and my sisters who are twins. My parents adopted myself first at 4 days old and then a few years later they wanted to expand the family. They had planned on adopting one more child and on the day my sisters were born my parents got the phone call that the mother gave birth prematurly to twins and the dr's would not know what damage if any had happened to them until they grew up. When my parents were given the choice of adopted both or splitting them up they said without doubt they wanted both. About 5 years later they noticed that one of my sisters had been slower than the other and 2 years of tests later they diagnosed my sister Katie with severe Epilepsy. My mom has been by her side every moment, every brain surgery (more than 6), every Dr. appointment. Katie will never be able to drive or live on her own but my mom does everything that she can, to try and make her feel as independent as she can. My mother is so selfless and always doing things for others. I think that she deserves this shopping spree for the many (30) years of love and support.
Kelly Davis says
Lauren Perkins! A supermom to sextuplets, one of which has severe special needs. This mama gives every bit of herself to others, and is so, so, SO deserving of a little something special for herself!!!
Chic Coastal Living says
Hi Sheaffer, I'd like to nominate my mother Cindy, who has been a blessing with my brother, Rickie. Rickie was born with Down's Syndrome and my mother was only 18 when he was born. She's been a loving mom who is active in his program that he attends Monday through Friday. My mother also cares for my grandfather who lost his leg last year because of diabetes. She spends her whole day taking special care of my brother and grandfather and even when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, her daily schedule didn't change for them. It would be a wonderful surprise for her to be able to go on a shopping spree at Loft. Something she hardly ever has time to do. XO, Desiree
Sophia Kim says
I would like to nominate myself, as weird as that is 🙂 hehe. I have an almost 4-year old who was diagnosed with autism in 2013, when I was 6 months pregnant with baby #2. THAT was an emotional roller coaster, if you can imagine. I was in serious denial about the entire thing for MONTHS, and it wasn't until after my second baby was born and I could see the stark differences between the two that I realized I wasn't doing my daughter any favors by keeping my head in the sand (as comforting as ignorance can be sometimes). Since then, we've been doing everything we can to get our little princess all the help she needs – she's in SOME form of therapy 6x/week (ABA, early intervention, speech). It's exhausting, especially with a second little baby in clinging to my ankles but God is sovereign and He has a plan for everything, even little bumps in the road like autism 🙂
Sophia Kim says
I would also love to nominate my sweet friend, Janice. She has three kids, ALL of who have some form of disability or special needs or difficulty. Her oldest has autism, her second has had feeding issues since he was an infant, and her youngest has been labeled with global delays (no diagnosis as of yet). She is my only friend who is also a special needs mama and let me tell you, friends who are in the same boat as you are CRUCIAL when you're navigating the scary waters of kids-with-special-needs. She could probably use a new wardrobe update just as much as I can! 🙂
Anonymous says
I would like to nominate my sweet friend Chancey. Chancey is a mom to 4 beautiful children. Gracie is 10, Sophie is 4, and twins Kaylee and Charlee are 2 years old. Her 4 year old daughter Sophie contracted meningitis a few days after birth resulting in significant delays in many areas. Sophie has been in early intervention almost her whole life and will soon make the transition from her special needs preschool to the special needs program at her local public school where she will start kindergarten in the fall. Chancey is an amazing mom and a great friend and so deserves this treat.

I would like to nominate myself 🙂 . I am blessed with two year old twins, one typical an one who has Down syndrome. I would love a mommy shopping spree.
Amanda says
I'd like to nominate my friend, Cari Fogleman. She is a mama to two beautiful children. Her oldest son, Christian, has Cerebral Palsy. She is a sacrificial stay-at-home, homeschooling mama who works so hard often giving up what other moms take for granted. I'd love to see her be The Loft winner! It would be a blessing to her & me both!
Sarah says
I would like to nominate my college roommate and good friend Sarah. Her son has Osteopetrosis, nope not a typo, he has the opposite of Osteoporosis. His bones harden. He is just one month younger than my son, and they have gone through so much already. I think he has spent more time in the hospital then out of it. Has had 2 bone marrow transplants, has has a shunt in his head, and countless other things and problems. But through it all they stick together as a family. I am in awe of them every.single.day.
D and K says
I would love for my friend Jamie to win! She is the best mom and friend! Her first son Kohen was born with Down Syndrome 3 years ago and it was a total surprise. She took it like a rock star and has since become so involved in the down syndrome community in our town and helps so many people. She is a working mom and takes on so many other responsibilites for everyone else.
Christi says
I nominate my SIL Amy. She is a fabulous mom to my niece that has autism. God has truly blessed our family with both of these special people.
Crystal Chapman says
Look at all these awesome moms! I love all the love with this thread and this give away <3. My son has just been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD/ODD. It has been such as struggle to keep him in daycare and now to find doctors to see him since he is only 4. I would love a shopping spree but I would really like to nominate my mother in law. The woman is a saint and has raised two ADHD children and another with a multitude of issues including severe seizures and other auto immune type issues. She has come down from Ohio just to watch my sons after my son was dismissed from his 4th daycare due to his issues. Without her our family would be a mess – she is our glue!
Cami says
I would also like to nominate Kara. She has three young sons and one has autism. She works full time and has been an amazing advocate for her son.
Quinn Mattingly says
I would like to nominate my boyfriend's oldest sister, Adrienne. On our first date, Adam told me about his nephew, Gerald, who is autistic. A few weeks later I met some of his family, including Adrienne and Gerald. Gerald is a fireball and cracks everyone up, just today he requested orange play doh…because it tastes the best.. Adrienne is a BADASS and I don't know how she does it. The woman is hilarious, beautiful and such a saint and great mom to Gerald and his sister Molly. She deserves it! We can be Loft lovers together!
Brittany Schwaigert says
This is SO great! I love when you do these! My 6 year old has Tuberous Sclerosis and so much of my energy goes into him, I would love to be able to go shopping without guilt!
Lisa R says
I nominate Lecia Walker, a single working mom of a teen with Williams Syndrome. She works so hard to take care of her family and I know she would appreciate the boost to her working wardrobe. Thanks!!!!
Trish Bush says
I would like to second Dan Weese's nomination of Mollie Sheppard.
sonyamorris (Sonya Morris) says
I would love to nominate myself even though there are so many other nominees deserving of such an amazing treat! My daughter was diagnoised with Transverse Myelitis at 4 months old which is left her partially paralyzed and depends on a wheelchair or forearm crutches for mobility.
The Rohman Family says
I'd like to nominate my friend Keyanna. She has 2 typical biological children but in the past 4 years has adopted a son and most recently a daughter from China, both of whom have special needs. I had the privilege of meeting her 2 new additions over Valentine's Day weekend when they came to stay with my family. What a treat! Keyanna is so deserving of this special spree! Thank you!
Leslie Anderson says
I would like to nominate myself because Pinterest Told Me To, lol and I love, love, love the Loft! My son Christopher is 22 yo and is developmentally challenged. He's my baby, my buddy, my soulmate! He always tells me how pretty I am. I wouldn't trade places with anyone!

I nominate my sweet momma. Her daughter (my older sister), has a more rare disease, tuberous sclerosis. She develops tumors throughout her body & brain, and has to have many surgeries thru the years to remove them, as well as chemo drugs daily. My mom has been so strong in dealing with all that comes her way since my sister was born with this 25 years ago. She deserves so much and yet never asks for anything. She also has been a rock for our family in this not so normal lifestyle. But we wouldn't have it any other way because it has made us all who we are & we have my parents to thank for that.
Chicago Mom (Heather) says
Hi – I guess I will nominate myself although I feel a little silly doing so. 🙂 I have a son named Henry who is 7 and was diagnosed with autism when he was 3 years old. He's been in so much therapy and I've seen him go from non-verbal to a chatty brother who argues and plays with his younger sister. Henry has taught me more than words can express. He is the biggest blessing in my life and I thank God for him every day. Henry's autism doesn't define him – it makes him extra special. There have been some really difficult moments but I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for letting me nominate myself. 🙂
Emily Evans says
I would like to nominate my friend Katie Emanuel! She is the mother of an incredible son named Jack who is autistic, but also the mother of two other young children as well! She works harder than anyone I know and though I haven't seen her in a few years, I know from social media (and her ever-growing blog) how hard she works for her family. She is truly an inspiration and I think she deserves some pampering more than anyone I know!
Caity Stuk says
I would love to win this! I have a daughter who was born with microtia/atresia and although she is only 5 months old , forsee lots of drs specialists and SPL in our future. How sweet and kind of you to do this !!
Kellie says
I would like to nominate my HS friend Melissa Flinchum. Shortly after her son Dylan's second birthday, he was diagnosed w/ MLD. The life expectancy for a child w/ MLD is approximately 5 yrs, with some children reaching 10. Beautiful Dylan just celebrated his 6th birthday but the once vibrant, talkative & active little boy, has slowly lost his ability to walk & talk.
As a Mom of 2 healthy children, I am truly humbled by what her & her husband endure on a daily basis in order for their son to remain comfortable. The little things that a lot of us take for granted such as hearing our children laugh or seeing them run & play are things that are only distant memories for them. While my days are filled w/ carpooling & juggling schedules, their days are filled w/ feeding tubes & monitors.
I am in awe of her strength & she is so deserving of this generous contest to help remind her that in addition to being the strongest Mom I know, she is also a beautiful, beautiful woman who should pamper HERSELF every now & then
Thank you so much for this contest Sheaffer! All of these Moms are so amazing!
Megan Miller says
I would like to nominate Mollie Mills Shepard as well. Prior to giving birth to two amazing young boys with special needs, she dedicated her work to helping those with disabilities and created a non-profit that provides children with special needs presents at Christmas time. Mollie was diagnosed with a rare cancer this summer and is battling it harder than I have ever seen anyone fight. She has brought together an entire community of strangers on facebook and inspires everyone with her positive attitude. She also continuously helps others even though she is in the hospital more than she is at home. She has made friends with others battling cancer and lifted their spirits and created fundraisers for them as well. I would like to nominate my friend Karla. Karla is an unfaltering advocate of her autistic son Nick. With almost inhuman energy Karla juggles a full time job, her two teenage boys and making sure Nick has the care and attention he needs. Karla continues to learn everything she can about her sons condition so that she may help this sweet boy shine and give him the patient understanding he deserves.

This makes me soooo happy! I have never commented on your blog, but this post was so special to me that I had to comment to nominate one of my very dearest friends, Dianne. They adopted the most precious son, who has so many special needs, many in which are unknown. They have been through so much with him, and he is the most precious 3 years old, that I would LOVE to surprise her with this awesome giveaway that she so deserves!!

My best friend, Jessica, deserves a special treat just for her. She and her family have had so many lows over the past few years, but she carriers herself with such grace and positivity. I would like to nominate my sister Lauryn! My nephew has autism and around the same time her and his dad found out, he declared he no longer loved her and left the marriage. I would love for her to have this opportunity!

I would like to nominate my sweet friend, Tami. Tami adopted her oldest daughter who has Down's Syndrome. Heather says
I would like to nominate a very special mama, Brandy. I had the pleasure of working with Brandy's daughter for 5 years as her special education teacher. Her daughter is now a Sophomore in high school and Brandy has been an amazing advocate and cheerleader for her daughter. She does not let her daughters disability dictate her future goals and has been instrumental in helping her daughter get the best education. This last year, Brandy quit her job and took a new one in a near by school working with students with disabilities and then going to the school office for a more permanent position. She just told me last week that she has started going to school to be a special education teacher so she can be a positive role model for both students and parents. I could not be more proud and excited of Brandy and her amazing journey!
Sherita Grant says
I would like to nominate my I Run 4 Buddy's mom, Heather Hilbmann Schoenleber. She is mom to three amazing kids. Her middle child, Mackenize has Charge Syndrome which causes a myriad of issues including cleft palate, developmental problems, and deafness. Mackenzie has seen her fair share of surgeries and hospital stays, but Heather handles it all like a champ. I am truly in awe of her strength, and this would be a great surprise for her.

My name is Erik and I'd like to nominate my wife Karen. Our 15mo old daughter was recently diagnosed with several life-threatening food allergies. This has forced us to make dramatic changes in our home and lives to ensure her safety. Michelle Coleman says
I am nominating my best friend Michelle Taylor. She is a mom to a beautiful little girl Addison Rose. Addison was born with a rare genetic disorder called Prader Willi Syndrome. This is a devastating disorder that affects many aspects of Addie's life (low-tone, developmental delays, need for growth hormone therapy) but the most devastating is the Stage 3 Hunger that can happen at any time for Addison. In Stage 3 Addison's brain will lose the ability to know that it is full and she will feel insatiable hunger constantly. Prader Willi children must stick to a very strict diet of lean meats, vegetables and fruit and no more than 1,000 calories a day for life. Addison has never had candy, cake or any of those sweet treats children love, and sadly she never will. Prader Willi children are food seekers and will eat whatever they can get their hands on, therefore all cabinets and refrigerators must be pad locked. Prader Will children, if left to their own devices can and have eaten themselves to death. While it is very devastating, if you met Addison you would never know any of this is going on with her. Her infectious smile and her zeal and joy just melt your heart. It also makes it that much more heartbreaking. With all of the struggles, Michelle has been AMAZING!. I am in total awe of her ability to handle this situation head on. She knows what is best for Addison and will do whatever that is, no matter the cost. She is a wonderful spokesperson and such a joy and an inspiration to be around. Winning this contest would help her out so much, as she does still currently work full time while also taking care of Addison. Thank you for your time!!

I am so excited to nominate myself. I am the mama to the most beautiful, artistic, hilarious four year old princess- with autism. I also have a one year old blue eyed beauty. These girls are my world. I've realized recently that it's been years since I've worn heels, jewelry, or even gotten dressed up for a date. I'm on a mission to get my hot mama back and this shopping spree would be icing on the cake! High five to all of you special mamas!!

I am nominating my friend Mollie Sheppard. She has 2 special needs boys. This past fall, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. She's been in and out of the hospital, endured several rounds of Chemotherapy recently received a Stem Cell Transplant. Through it all, she has maintained an amazing outlook and wonderful sense of humor and most importantly she continues to be an Amazing Mom to her two wonderful boys. She has inspired hundreds if not thousands of people to cherish every moment of our lives and count our blessings. She deserves this amazing gift because she has given so much to so many in a million different ways.
Sarah Leech says
I tried to comment yesterday, but I don't think it went through…I'd like to nominate my sweet friend, Karie Phillips. She has two young boys Walker & Weston. This past July 2014, Walker started having seizures unexpectedly & had to be in the ICU for a while & then rehab. He is in therapy to help him walk & talk again. Karie is such a super mom & takes him to the chiropractor & blends all his food for his tube feedings rather than giving him formula. We are all praying for healing & restoration!! I hope she wins because I think she needs to treat herself to something!!!
Kelcy Laine says
I would be more than honored to nominate Jamie Wilson! She has three beautiful babies, and one with a rare genetic disorder. While this is a difficult and special task for anyone, she remains positive and is truly an inspiration to those who love her and come around her! I have never seen her with out a smile on her face. She loves her family dearly and is so selfless. This would be the most wonderful surprise to her, someone who is more than deserving!
Amy Kleis says
This is so awesome….I'm would like to nominate my friend Tara…she has a 12 year old ASD son and he is on the low functioning end of the spectrum and I feel she is very deserving of this contest because not only does she provide all that she can for her son….she now provides for her 2 yr old daughter as well. She facs many struggles, not only financially…but struggles for any kind of normalcy for her own life as well. She gives her whole life up as I'm sure all other mothers, but I cry for her because her son can't even leave his classroom at school, it breaks my heart because I know she wants so much for him and will spend every last penny for him to make sure he is happy, so that she can stay sane. She never asks for anything and I guess that's why I want her spoiled!!
Megan Kirby says
After reading most of the comments above, I think there are a LOT more special moms out there more deserving than myself. I wish you could take every single one, as I know they must all have so much on their plates already. I guess I will still nominate myself, Megan Kirby. I am mommy to twin girls born at 23 weeks, who have spent a lot of their life in and out of the hospital. They both have trachs and g-buttons, and one with CP and epilepsy who is still on a ventilator. On top of a full-time job, I try to juggle all their doctor appointments, therapies, prescriptions, and nurses. They are the light of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks so much for this contest Miss Scheaffer…and if I happen to win, I know we will have a blast and totally be BFF's afterwards! 🙂
Jordan K says
I'm nominating myself (always hard to do that)! My sweet girl was born with a rare brain disorder that we never saw coming. It has been the most challenging but BEAUTIFUL five years of my life. God has poured out his mercy and power and given life to my darling that no doctor ever expected her to have. We are "best girls" even if it looks different than I imagined our mother/daughter relationship would be.

I have a daughter with cystic fibrosis and we have so many things we do everyday just to keep her healthy…not to mention all the things we have to add in if she does get sick, or worse, end up in the hospital. She is the light of my life and have learned so much from this little 18 month old. She really is the strongest person I know!

I would like to nominate my sister, Heather! She is a fantastic mother to two sweet little boys, but the road hasn’t always been easy for her and my brother-in-law. She struggled through years of fertility issues, and delivered both boys prematurely. Her oldest was born at 27 weeks gestation, just a tiny little 2 lb 0 oz baby. He had many months of ups and downs in the NICU (and after), and there were often times where we all wondered if he would be coming home from the hospital. Thankfully, she is able to be a stay at home mom, as he has required hundreds of appointments over the years, surgery, many medications, and both speech and physical therapy. He is now a healthy, rambunctious kindergartener. Her youngest is still a NICU baby. He was born just two weeks ago, at 33 weeks (and 3 lbs, 9 oz), but unlike his big brother, has required minimal medical intervention and continues to gain weight daily. The hope is that he will be able to come home sometime in mid-March. I think Heather is deserving of this giveaway, as she does not take the time for herself. She is a devoted mother and wife, and I’m proud to say she’s my sister!

Jenny Coker says
I would love to nominate my dear friend Karie Phillips who is an amazing Mom of two boys, Walker and Weston! Last summer at 3 1/2 years old, Walker started having seizures and thus began a long journey for Walker and the Phillips family. Through what began as an apparent harmless virus has caused a completely healthy 3 1/2 year old lose the capability to talk, walk and live life as the healthy, happy preschooler he was. Through it all his parents have maintained an incredible faith that is an inspiration to all who know them.

I would love to nominate the most inspirational, most amazing, most beautiful friend I have ever known, Sarah. Sarah's son, Tommy (who will be 8 this month), was born with some of his digestive organs on the outside of his tiny body. Tommy has gone through more procedures and surgeries to correct his "imperfection", than anyone should ever have to. Tommy is an amazing little boy who has never once realized that he is "different" than anyone else because his family does not allow him to feel that way. Sarah is a full time wife and mother; who homeschools her children, works part time to help with the stack of bills piled up, assists her husband with their new business venture, follows the Lord regularly, she is a master gardner and still finds time to be there for me and everyone else that "needs" her. She is an amazing person who deserves a little pampering.

I am nominating my dear friend Mollie Mills Sheppherd. She is 34 years old-Mom to Aubrie (she passed after living one day-she was born at 22 weeks), Dax (Aubrie's twin who was born at 23 weeks and he is an amazing young man but has a host of medical, developmental, language, physical challenges-but always has a smile on his face) and to Tyler (he has Autism). Mollie is also battling a cancer so rare that in a given year 2 in a million people get diagnosed with it. She has a T-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She just left the hospital after spending over 30 days there after getting a stem cell transplant (her youngest brother just happened to be a 100% match). I am going to copy in more information about Mollie from her gofund me site and I am going to ask you to read her blog. Please join us on FB at #TeamMollie. I promise you won't find a Mom like her anywhere-she is simply amazing. She has a strong Faith, a wicked sense of humor, 50 + stripper wigs and
a huge LOVE for her boys. http://onlythesheppards.blogspot.com/
Mollie Mills Sheppard is a BCBA, Special Needs parent, and blogger in the Nashville area who shares a passion for life, her children and her community. In July 2014, however, she received news that every parent, every woman, every individal dreads. She was told she has cancer. Mollie was diagnosed with stage 4 Enteropathy Associated Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a very rare cancer of the stomach that affects one in two million. 1 in 2,000,000. Within days of receiving her diagnosis Mollie began a very aggressive treatment, starting with chemotherapy as a first line of defense. Mollie completed her first round of chemotherapy in November, 2014, and went right back into it a week later. Their hope is that after this next, very aggressive chemotherapy, that Mollie will be able to have a stem cell transplant. Mollie is in the fight of her life and she needs your prayers and your help.
Who is Mollie Mills Sheppard?
In 2008, during her first pregnancy, Mollie went into early labor. She went on to deliver the first of her twins, Aubrie, at 21 weeks. Aubrie survived only one day. Mollie founded Aubrie’s Angels in her honor, a non-profit that delivers therapeutic toys to children in need at Christmas.
Her second twin, Dax, was born two weeks later, requiring an 8 month stay in the NICU. Thus began Mollie’s journey as a preemie and NICU parent. As many of her friends can attest, in the micro preemie community, Mollie has served as an inspiration and her sons story one of great beauty, love and success. Dax is a funny, sweet emerging kindergartner.
A few years later the Sheppards discovered that their second son, Tyler, has Autism. Tyler, so different from his older brother, has brought such incredible joy to the Sheppards, and has proven to be the greatest little best friend. Tyler is also starting kindergarten this year.
Her children have been the greatest joy in her life. They are the inspritation from which she has drawn strength to keep on fighting for that perfect day. In Mollie’s words “We’re going to laugh and get through this.” She has done just that, inspiring thousands with her quirky sense of humor and generous outlook on life. Thanks so much for considering Mollie!!

I would like to nominate my friend Andrea. She is a mom to two special needs kids. She has always been the biggest advocate for them and works so hard for every milestone they've hit and she is just such an amazing and happy person!! This has been a hard year for her and I know that something like this would just mean so much to her!

I would like to nominate my friend, Mary. Her oldest son has CF and it's a battle she fights every day. She and her husband work so hard every day to provide for their three children. She is a staff assistant at the school I work at. Not only does she take care of the endless medical needs of her son, she keeps up with her twins, and she works with Special Ed kids all day long. This woman is an angel. Truly, an angel.

I would love for a Teacher Assistant at my former school to win. Oh my goodness-could she ever use it. Her name is "Ms. Ramos," and she has an 18 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. She also has a son in college at Texas A&M (the first in his family to attend school! he was my student in 4th grade, and he is so smart). Money is very tight as she has had bills for years and years related to her daughter's care. Now she has expenses for her son's college. She puts herself last and always has. She works so hard for the teachers and students at her school, and I admire her tremendously. I would love to see her catch a little "break." Thanks Loft and Sheaffer for hosting this.

I am entering my sister-in-law Karen. Her daughter Aiyanna is two years old and has Down Syndrome. Aiyanna is so infinitely loved by her mom, dad, and thirteen siblings. Karen deserves any kind of special treatment you can give her!! She works so hard to give Aiyanna whatever she needs to thrive.

I am nominating myself- momma to two beautiful children! Our youngest was born premature with congenital cmv – she has global delays and advanced feeding issues. Every day is a new adventure. I love my daughter dearly and would not change anything, although I would do anything to take her pain and struggles off her. With time 🙂

I would nominate my cousin Wendy who has a son with autism. She works and also has 3 other kids to run around with. She is inspiring!

I nominate my friend Nikki, whose daughter is on the autism spectrum and has some other special needs.

I would like to nominate my daughter, Bailey. Her son is 41/2 (such a cute age). Her husband left her and their son, 4 years ago, not to be heard from. No contact, no support. Bailey is in the midst of testing trying to find the exact diagnosis of her son, my grandson. He is in special needs classes, now. She is so dedicated to him and his well being while at the same time working full time and going to school to get her nursing degree. She is trying to make a better life for the both of them. I know it is a struggle for her everyday. She hasn't given up through all the ups and downs of raising a son on her own, with special needs. He is such a sweet little boy with love from all his family. It would be nice for her to have something special "just for her". She doesn't get to, or can afford to spend on herself. It would be a great blessing. Thank you, so much for recognizing all moms (all parents) in the midst of their trials with a special needs child.

I would like to nominate my friend Sara Brunnquell whose 8 year old son Charlie has Down Syndrome. She works very hard to make sure he leads a normal life, all while keeping a demanding full time job. She could use a shopping spree!

I would like to nominate my daughter Jamie Wilson. She is a mom of three beautiful children. The oldest is a 9 year old with a very rare brain disorder. Jamie is such a positive mom who works tirelessly making each child feel special. She never complains or asks for help. Jamie knows God is in control and let's him guide her through the storms of life. She is an inspiration to all who know her.

I would love for my friend Destiny to win! She and her husband, who already had three biological children took on the adoption of Destiny's nephew, Josiah. Josiah had MECP2 syndrome, a genetic duplication syndrome that results in severe developmental issues (children may learn a task and then later are unable to do it, i.e. walking) and extremely shortened lifespans. In Josiah's case, that lifespan was only 2.5 years. He passed away on Feb. 7, just a couple weeks ago. Destiny fought so hard for her son's life, seeing dozens of doctors and seeking any available treatment. She deserves something special for herself after going through this tragedy!!

I nominate my colleague Megan. Her oldest son has Tourette's and autism. Despite a demanding job and two younger sons also needing her attention, Megan has spent countless hours and resources on finding him specialists and taking him to therapy. She thoroughly researched school districts and selected a home because it was in a school district with the programs to help her son in school. Her son will probably never be fully independent. Megan sacrifices for her family every day, and she would be a worthy recipient of the PTMT special mama giveaway. Thank you Sheaffer for putting on such a great giveaway to honor these women!

Hi! My name is Sarah and I have four beautiful children. My first is my step son, Joe. He is 17 and will be out of high school soon (tear, tear). Then there is my son Matthew (named after my husband), Matthew passed away ten years ago. My little perfect baby would be ten years old and 11 this May. We keep his memory alive each and everyday and I know He is with GOD. My daughter Isabella is next. She is 9. My eternal sweetheart. She is everything! Finally, my little sweet tart, Jeremy George. He is bright, he is sweet, he is tart! From the moment he was born, he was quiet and observant. He is so so smart, it puts me to shame! (Sometimes ) Jeremy is our little curve ball. Together our family has been kicking Autism butt since 2009! We are on a road and crying, laughing along the way.
Thank you Mrs Sheaffer for this very special contest. Jeremy has has speech therapy since an early age and it has been so great. In school and outside of school. I am really proud of him and all his accomplishments. Just to be himself and to be his mom is a gift. GOD never gives you more than you can handle. I def can handle and wouldn't trade my family. Every minute is precious and we are thankful.
I nominate me. I'm a mama with a unique little boy. He's got Autism but Autism doesn't have him! 🙂

I would love to nominate my friend (and former neighbor) Jana. She is mom to 3 sweet kiddos (and one on the way!), and her oldest was born a preemie and has special needs as a result. She works so hard with his speech specialists and teachers! It would be great for her to enjoy something special for herself!

I would like to nominate my mother, Nancy. My brother Jeffrey was born with severe cerebral palsy and she did everything she could to give him the most wonderful life, but sadly he passed away at age 3 1/2. Since then, my mother has devoted her life to helping those who need her most, including spending 10 years as a special-education teacher, and the last five working for a nonprofit that helps struggling families get their feet under them financially. I can't think of anyone more deserving than my mother.

I nominate my friend Amber. She has four children – her oldest (a six-year-old son) is on the Autism spectrum and just this October their second child, a four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She has dedicated herself to learn all she can about treating her children's conditions and has overhauled her families lifestyle to give the best care she can to her little ones. She is a stay at home mom, but picks up extra work as she can to lessen the financial burden of four children, one income, and medical expenses. I know she trusts the Lord to provide and, if it is His will, to grant healing.

I would like to nominate Kristy Jones! She is an amazing mom of a precious 3 year old special needs little girl!

I'd love to nominate my friend Chris. Her younger daughter has cystic fibrosis and I will never forget when she was born – she had her first surgery the day she was born. Chris is a single mom and tireless advocate for both her kids! This is a such a great giveaway!! Would love to be able to surprise her with this. 🙂

I would like to nominate my sister-in-law, Janice. She's a mom of four boys, including a 13 year old with autism. Along her journey to help my nephew, she became involved with TACA (Talk About Curing Autism). They live in North Dakota and they didn't have a TACA chapter there so she and a friend started one on a volunteer basis. She now also works for the organization full time. TACA's philosophy is families affected by autism helping other families affected by autism. Janice has been able to take the knowledge she has learned from her own experiences with my nephew to help hundreds of other families. They were once told by doctors that he would likely end up in an institution. Instead, he's in regular ed classes in school, has earned numerous belts in TKD, ran cross country this past fall, and is in the middle school band. His success would not be possible without her perseverance. Janice does little to take care of herself and I think this would be a great way to honor her.

I would LOVE for my sister-in-law to win. My nephew had a genetic disorder and autism. She works tirelessly taking him to necessary therapy and does all of this with little to no sleep. She is a rock star but rarely does anything for herself.

I am nominating my dear friend Katie who is a special, warrior mama. Her youngest daughter unexpectedly passed away two weeks after her third birthday. This sweet little girl had special needs, yet a fiercely independent spirit that still shines bright for her mama today. It takes a special and brave mama to love and mother a child with special needs who is no longer physically here with them on earth.
Shelley Bennett says
I would like to nominate my friend Stacey Barnetche. She is the mother to two teenage boys and a 9-year old girl, Melissa, who has Rhetts Syndrome. I had never heard about this disorder until Melissa was diagnosed. Stacey has educated our community and advocated endlessly for Melissa. She never puts herself first and would rock a new wardrobe from the Loft.

My sister is also a speech language pathologist working with infants and toddlers. She is the mom of 3 yr old twins and an 11 yr old. One of the twins has a genetic disorder that causes him to be unable speak, he can't walk, feed himself or do most of the things that 3yr old normally can. My sister works tirelessly to get him all the help and therapies that might help him. My sister is also a single mom since her husband of 13 years died of a heart attack on Thanksgiving day in 2013 (the twins were 2). My sister handles all of this with love and grace. She is a great mom and sister. I would love to see her win this Loft prize, not only because she deserves something good to go her way, but also because she has recently decided to re-enter the dating world and I'd live her to do that looking and feeling her best. New clothes are not a luxury she can afford. Thanks for a great blog, and an excuse to brag about my sister!

My best friend since I was in 4th grade is an incredible mother to a child with a very rare syndrome called Cru Di Chat or 5p-. She was diagnosed within the first week of her life and spent a long time in the NICU. Since she left the NICU and came home she and my friend have FOUGHT so hard to get her to where she is today. She is an amazing 6 year old who is just learning to use her voice to talk. She understands everything we say and uses sign lanugage to communicate when she can not make the sounds of the words she wants to say. My friend is a Kindergarten teacher and is an incredible mama. I can not think of anyone more deserving of some goodness! xoxo

I am nominating myself:) I am mom to sweet, sassy Sadie. Sh e has cerebral palsy and we see PT, OT, & ST weekly. We LOVE our therapists! That spree would be wonderful!

I would love for my friend Jen to win. She is a mom of 8 and 2 of them has special needs. Jen and her husband had 4 biological kids when they felt called to adopt a sibling group of 3. The oldest having severe emotional special needs. When they got them home they were surprised to find out that they were pregnant. When their youngest was born-they found out she has spina bifida. Jen manages to lovingly parent all 8 kids with all the attention they each need and always stays positive. Just parenting the two with special needs alone would be more work than possible for most. She not only is an amazing mom and wife but a wonderful friend. She is one of the most generous and giving friends and blesses so many in our community. It would be amazing for her to be given back too.

Hi there!
Id like to nominate my mom, Lisa! My mom is a wonderful mother to four children, one of which happens to have special needs. My brother AJ is 17 years old and has Down Syndrome and Autism. On Christmas Day he began having seizures and life has been a bit hectic ever since. My mom is the woman who hates spending $10 on herself—every last penny she has go to her children. I know I am a biased, but in my opinion there's no one more deserving!

I want to nominate Carly Durham! Her and her husband adopted a little boy named Carter from the Ukraine who has Down Syndrome. She is one of the sweetest people I know and Carter is thriving and one happy little boy!

I would like to nominate myself: it feels silly to do so…but I guess like all the other special needs mommies that have commented, we rarely do things for ourselves because we are so caught up in raising out special little people! I have a 4 year old son with epilepsy and dystonia named Myles.

There is a girl I went to high school with whose blog I follow that should win! I do not want to post any details about her, but her son has CP. She's a wonderful mom and would love this!

She is so dedicated and positive I am always amazed how she takes her daily life in stride. It would be wonderful to see something nice come her way and make her feel extra special!

I nominate Tara Kesler, a special mom who I don't even know personally, but who managed to touch my heart through her posts. An admirable lady, mom, and a great wife who never gets tired (or at least she doesn't show it) and makes sure everyone around her understands taking care of special needs children is part of who we are – not a chore, not a punishment, but a blessing for a mother.
