Shorts of Summer | Round Up

It’s May 14th, y’all.

Carter’s last day of school is next Thursday, and today it’s supposed to get up to 100 degrees in my neck of the woods, so summer is basically here.

And with the arrival of summer, my usual uniform of jeans and a cute blouse gets retired. It’s just too dang hot for jeans most days.

During the summer months, you can usually find me wearing casual sundresses or shorts. But here’s the simple truth, finding shorts you love can be hard.

Today I’m going to feature 6 pairs of shorts that are currently in my closet. They are different lengths, different materials, different colors/washes, different levels of distressing, and different vibes… so you are almost sure to find a pair that is right for you!

On today’s post, you’ll get to see each pair of shorts with my new favorite (and totally classic) white button-up. After that, I’ll show you some new outfits as well as review outfits you’ve seen me in over the last month with each pair.

DRAWSTRING DENIM SORTS

These drawstring shorts are a perfect option for those of you that like a little bit of length on your shorts because they have a 5 1/2″ inseam. I pull them on with ease, and the little corded belt is super cute. They also come in yellow and cream. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

TWILL PATCH POCKET SHORTS

These twill patch pocket shorts are a little bit unexpected with the color and a lot cute! 😉 They have the same fit and stretch as the denim patch pocket shorts you are going to see in a minute, but these are twill. The olive color still functions as a neutral, so you can style them with lots of different colors. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4. I would suggest sizing up for a more relaxed fit.

This is a perfect top for those of you that don’t love to do a half tuck because this top is best worn out. The color! The sleeves! The cut! Everything about this top is sooooooo good. The Becky top is precious. It’s a textured gingham print in a wonderful orange sherbet and cream combo. The v-neck, the peplum hem, and the tie sleeves are all fabulous. DISTRESSED CUT-OFFS

I think this is the 3rd year for me to be wearing and loving these distressed denim cut-offs. However, since they are both short and distressed, there are lots of places I wouldn’t wear them. They are what I affectionately refer to as toddler shorts because of the elastic across the back. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I have 3 shorts sleeve sweatshirts that I’ve owned for several years now, and they are 3 of the most worn items in my closet. One is orange, one is cream, and one is hot pink. Because I know how much I wear tops like this, I’m thrilled to add this sweatshirt to my closet. Now I’ve got a 4th one in the rotation! This is the “pink tender”, but it reads as a soft lilac to me. I love the elbow length sleeves, the banded hem, and the lace insets at the shoulders. If you have a long torso, this might be shorter than you’d like, but I don’t have to worry about that with my non-existent torso. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I think this top looks like a $130 pick from Anthro, but it’s $29.99 from Amazon. The quality is top notch, it has excellent reviews, and it comes in 6 color options. The body is a great ribbed knit, and the sleeves are gauzy perfection. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

This cap sleeve sweater is a perfect transition piece for spring temps. It’s a medium weight and truly perfect for warm spring days and cooler nights. It is soft, well made, and runs true to size. I’m wearing a medium for this slouchy look, but you can size down if you would prefer it to be more fitted. This is the brown, but it comes in 8 color options.

Here’s another blouse that looks like it came from Anthropologie, but it’s actually from Amazon. It has a relaxed fit, a deep v neckline, and puffy sleeves with pretty pleats. I love this pink and orange combo, but I also love the “red mix” and the blue/green combo. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I’m completely smitten with this springy striped cardigan. I’m wearing the green here, but there are 3 other colorways to choose from. It’s super feminine, and I love it worn all buttoned up (without a tee under it) with denim shorts. This would also look really great with my favorite ecru jeans (that have been on y’alls Top 12 list several months in a row).

This is the A-khaki cap-sleeve sweater and although I love the neutral, the bright pink and the bright blue are favorites too. And the rust would be great for all of you Longhorn fans out there. The thin stripe, the cap sleeves, and the seam down the center are all great details. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I’ve got another cap sleeve sweater, but this one has the cutest retro floral pattern. This is the apricot version, but it also comes in black, caramel, olive, navy, and a really pretty blush. This sweater is well made a really great look for right at only $26! For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

LONGER DENIM SHORTS

Tired of short shorts? I’ve got an awesome pair for you that’s totally on trend!

These denim shorts have a 7″ inseam, and I love them. They’re from Wit and Wisdom, so they have the AbSolution power mesh that we’ve all grown to love, and they’ve got some stretch like we’ve become accustomed to as well. For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 4.

I’ve got a FAVORITE FIND ALERT for y’all because I’m totally in love with this fabulous top.

It’s seriously gorgeous, and in my mind, totally worth the price tag. It’s feminine, delicate, and has a vintage and romantic vibe that I’m loving. This red is the most perfect and beautiful red, and all of the details truly are stunning. The cascading ruffles, the eyelet pattern, the longer sleeves with the elastic and ruffle… ALL STUNNING. The material is very lightweight and airy, and while I thought it was going to require a cami under it, if you wear a nude bra it really doesn’t. Some might prefer to wear a cami with it, but I’m completely comfortable wearing it without the cami. It also comes in white and black.

Sizing tip: After reading the reviews, I did size up to a large. I wanted to make sure it had a relaxed and flowy look, and one reviewer recommended for bigger chested gals to size up so I did. If you don’t have a bigger chest, you can totally stick with your regular size.

This linen blend top is a relaxed fit and has an easy breezy feel to it. It’s a muted stripe and just feels summery! For size reference, I’m wearing a medium, but I think a small would still be plenty roomy.

This puff sleeve sweatshirt is a lightweight sweatshirt material, so I will still wear it even into summer. The cuffs and hem are banded, and the puff sleeves are adorable. It also comes in a solid white, green, and blue. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

These patch pocket denim shorts are from Wit and Wisdom, our favorite denim brand, and they have the signature fit and stretch that we’ve all fallen in love with. And how cute are the oversized patch pockets! For size reference, I’m wearing a 4. If you want more of a relaxed fit, consider sizing up.

This babydoll top is DARLING and UNDER $30, y’all. This is the navy blue, but there are so many colors that I love. In fact, this is one of those pieces that I can see lots of people buying in 2 colors. It’s 100% cotton and the contrasting piping really makes the top. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

This striped v-neck sweater is from Boden, one of my very favorite brands because all of the clothes are vibrant and adorable. Now Boden’s price point is often a bit high, but I often find that the clothes are worth it. Several of my favorite pieces over the last several years are actually Boden pieces because they always feel special. This sweater is 100% linen and very lightweight. It’s basic t-shirt styling, but super elevated.

DRAWSTRING LINEN SHORTS

So this is the classic button-up that I’ve been styling with all of the shorts today. And great news! It’s ON SALE! This is a great closet staple that will look fabulous styled in lots of different outfits.  I’m wearing a small in the top, so I would suggest sizing down for sure. It also comes in a neutral stripe, a blue, a navy, a blush, and a pale blue stripe.

Let’s talk about the linen drawstring shorts! I mean, I’m not getting any younger, and I knew I wanted to add some shorts to my closet this summer that weren’t denim cut-offs. These are just what I was looking for!

They are a lightweight linen with pull on styling, so they are super comfortable. The perfect rise, the perfect elastic waist with a functional drawstring, and the perfect length. The link says they are a 4″ inseam, but they definitely seem longer on. They’re classy and casual, but they can easily be dressed up or down. These are the “flax”, but they also come in white, a blue stripe, and a pink stripe. I think the flax is perfection. I’m afraid that the white might be too sheer, but they are worth a try if you’re specifically looking for a pair of white shorts. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium for a relaxed fit.
