We tried to take a picture of ourselves together. But each picture I took of us, I looked super ugly.
Like SUPER ugly. So after erasing like 20 pictures the second after taking them, I took one of myself where I looked a little less ugly…and I took one of Shay acting like she didn’t know me.
Oh yeah, and I also took a picture of Shay in the window at LOFT.
You know, just a regular day of shopping.
Shay handled all the girls stuff a couple of weeks ago,
Mos of the boy’s clothes I’ve pulled today are all Boden from Nordstrom.
I focused on this line because these clothes come in toddler, little boy, and big boy sizes.
Boden holds up SO well and washes great.
(I typically buy up a size in the shirts, I roll up the long sleeves, and he can wear them for 2 seasons.)
Look how cute these clothes are!!!!
guitar shirt HERE, dart shirt HERE, striped pullover HERE, slim cargo khakis HERE
race cart double shirt HERE, striped t HERE, pullover rugby HERE, flat front grey khakis HERE
For the entire selection of boy Boden, click HERE (which includes infant boy also).
And I LOVE these shoes. LOVE.
Click HERE for all Chuck Taylor’s.
My other favorite shoes for boys follow:
Sperry’s HERE (toddler only)
Adidas Gazelle sneaker HERE (toddler and little kid)
Neon green and grey sneaker HERE (toddler and little kid)
Boden clothes (although I LOVE dressing Carter in them are kinda pricey), so GAP is usually my GO TO place to buy Carter’s clothes.
I especially LOVE the hoodies for the fall and winter. I don’t like to put Carter in coats unless it’s really cold, so I usually just throw a hoodie on him!
Click HERE to see all of the hoodies.
Click HERE for the big boy hoodie on the left and
click HERE for the little boy hoodie on the right.
I love GAP’s jeans for kids. Click HERE for all kid’s denim.
I also love Naartjie! Click HERE to check them out!
So, that’s it for the kid’s portion of this post!
On to the mommy portion!
Us Mommies have to look fab too, right?
(I went to both LOFT and Nordstrom on our shopping day. However, I ended up using all of my LOFT pics yesterday because of the sale. So, Nordstrom it is!)
Lots of people have e-mailed me asking if I had seen the MUST HAVE shirt in white.
I made a point to go try it on, and here it is!
Loved it!
THIS SHIRT RUNS BIG, SO REMEMBER TO ORDER DOWN 1 SIZE!
Mine in the picture is an x-small.
I styled it with my Kimberly necklace HERE and my Vigoss jeans (distressed version HERE and non-distressed version HERE.)
I like the edginess of this “leather” trimmed tee.
Leather is HUGE this season, and I think this would be a nice way to include the trend without going full on biker. 🙂
It comes in 4 colors. Click HERE for it.
Halogen striped sweater HERE (and checkout the fun elbow “patch”).
I love how it’s styled on the model over a white button up and distressed jeans!
I had a couple of people e-mail me these earrings during the Anniversary Sale contest, so I knew I needed to try them. So pretty
Click HERE for this lace sweatshirt.
(Ever since seeing Melissa Gorga wear the sweatshirt with lace embellishments,
I’ve been on the look out for one.)
I posted this next picture on facebook this weekend, and there was lots of conversation about it.
You can find the Free People Ruffle Trim Jacket HERE.
Christine, a reader, commented it was a mullet jacket…”business in the front, party in the back.”
Ha!
The front is pretty plain, but the lace-up sleeves, the frayed seams,
and the ruffles make me want to scream!
ARE YOU DYING OVER THE FRAYED SEAMS AND RUFFLES?
If you like the idea of this jacket, but can’t justify spending the money on it, remember there is a similar version in the girl’s department HERE. If you are over 5’4″ or super busty, I wouldn’t recommend it, but otherwise I think it’s a great option! I tried on the 10-12, and it was fine on me. I think the 14-16 probably would have been okay too (but there wasn’t one in store to try on).
I also found THESE boots.
I know MANY of you have been looking for a well priced brown boot.
I THINK THIS IS YOUR BOOT PEOPLE!
Erika – stop your search! THESE ARE YOUR BOOTS!
(If you want to see some precious family pics, click HERE to see Erika’s new pics!)
At the very end of our shopping trip, Shay and I were walking to our cars which were parked right outside of Nordstrom, and we saw this:
Two precious little old ladies walking through the shoe department at Nordstrom and holding hands.
I pointed them out to Shay, and I was all “Awwww. That’s so sweet. Do you think they’re sisters?”
And without missing a beat Shay said,
“No. That’s us in like 50 years. Walking through the Nordy shoe department.
You’re the one with the cane.”
True that Shay.
True that.

First of all, you didn't look ugly in any of the 589 selfies we took. You are just too critical sometimes! Second of all, that military ruffled jacket makes my heart skip a beat every time I see it! And third, you will be the one with the cane and I will be the one holding the big bag and coffee. It's just us in 50 years!
Susan Jeffries says
Great ideas as always! I love the ruffled denim and the lace top! Thanks! Susan
Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
Aww, this makes me miss the days of dressing my little (big) boy for back to school! And you're the one with the cane, that's awesome!
Dawn says
Love the picture of the ladies! 🙂 Can't wait to see you and Shay in 50 years! 😉 You'll both still be as cute as can be!

I love mini boden and I love that must have shirt!! And I agree! That is you and Shay in 50 years!!
Danielle says
Omigosh! Those two ladies are adorable! I hope I'm still shopping in Nordstrom's at their age 😉 Love all of your picks, especially those boots. I'm on the search for a good brown boot to fit over my massive calves (I used to be a dancer!) and those might be the ones 😉
Kelly says
Those ladies are so cute! I was glad to see you wearing the Kimberly necklace….I've been debating whether or not to buy it. Now I know I need to get it!
Love yours and Shay's shopping experiences!

My fav part of the post…the cane! Love the sweet photo!

Love the boots and love the ruffle jacket!

I love that striped sweater! Must have it! My little man wears Chuck Taylor's and I think they look so cute on him. They are his fav shoe. I've never tried Boden clothes on him but now I have to. My hubby may die of shock when I buy our son something that's not from Gap or Old Navy. But he really needs those clothes! i like the advice to buy one size up. Now thats what i need to do! I also dress my child in a hoodie unless its really cold. We're southerners so it's semi-warm most of the time. The big coat just doesn't make sense. And it's impossible to get him strapped in his car seat in the thing so you put him in the car, take the coat off and then strap him in!

No doubt Carter is dressed to impress!!! I don't have any little boys to dress, but I loved all your pics for back to school. Also loved those boots!!
The two old ladies pic was precious!!! 😉
Shara says
You and I have the same taste in little boys clothes, I wish I could afford all Boden and I have been loving Naartjiekids lately. Those ladies are so cute!
Lori says
I wish they had cute "little man" clothes like your choices when my son was young. I still like buying for him but it's not quite as fun as when he was little. Have you checked out the Clark's Mascarpone tan boots at Nordstrom? They are so comfortable and I can't remember a time when I wore them and someone did not stop and ask me where I got them. Who would have thought Clark's could make a cute and comfortable boot. They are a little pricey but so so worth it. The must have white shirt with the Kimberly necklace looks great on you with your dark hair!
Liz/happymommy says
Can't believe I didn't get on the MUST HAVE shirt train cause I am loving it in white. I am going to have to get me some, should have jumped when the anniversary sale was on, next time I will listen to you, I promise!!!
Checked out Erika's pictures on her blog and seriously you have the most gorgeous friends with the most adorable children, I swear!!! 🙂
Sarah says
Love the photo of the old ladies at the end, and the fact that you snapped a quick picture of them without them seeing, too cute. I ordered the shirt, but it said it was back ordered till Sept. Waiting patiently… I hope they still have my order!
Leslie @Geek Mama says
I adore that Kimberly necklace and hope it goes on sale one day. As for boy clothes, my favorite place to shop for my boys (ages 4 and almost-2) is Target. I think even Gap prices are outrages for kids' clothes when they're just going to sit on a blueberry or splatter neon-colored ice cream pop all over themselves during the first wearing and ruin them forever (true stories). I also get them skinny jeans, sweatpants/shorts, and swim attire at Old Navy. My mother and sisters have bought them cute clothes at Jack and Jill, but both buttons on the adjustable side straps of a new pair of shorts popped off in the wash the other day. That has never happened with Target clothes! We live in Houston, so I agree with you about the jackets. So I just ordered them cute little Carter's puffer vests from Boscov for $15 each. I think they'll get a lot more use out of those than they would out of a big jacket.

I loved all the cute little man clothes and can't wait to get my guy stocked up on some new duds! Did you dress Carter like a little man when he was an infant too?! Brady is 10 months old and I love him in anything preppy, but this summer was a whole lot of onesies or rompers b/c it was just too hot! Love the must have shirt and I'm thinking I need to bite the bullet soon! That picture of the ladies at the end was precious! Don't you just love girlfriends?!! 🙂
Jennifer Haag says
Fun post!!! My boys are old enough to chose what they wear now so I sadly no longer get to pick out cute clothes for them. If they aren't in school uniforms it is all about the basketball shorts and shirts now a days 🙁 The Loft has a great option for a lace sweatshirt also. I tried it on in black this weekend and loved it!

You know how I feel about Boden… as does my credit card (that would also be categorized as frivolous and unnecessary, but whatever) 🙂
The picture at the end is ADORABLE. Love y'all!

Now that Luke is 1, I am more excited about his clothes, and I am loving Gap boy clothes. I bought him some Toms and Converse a few weeks ago, so dang cute.
And, that ruffle jacket….LOVE!!!!!! So cute!!!
The old ladies is too precious. Totally you & Shay in 50 years. Love it.

I love the boy clothes you highlighted! I've never checked out Boden at Nordys before. And, now I'm wondering if I should return my juniors cropped military jacket for the ruffled one!? Hummmm…. Oh, and I laughed out loud at the old lady photo! That's totally y'all in 50 years!

I love the "Must Have" blouse – is it washable? I don't mind delicate-in-the-washer-hang-to-dry, but hand wash or dry clean items seem to end up in never never land at my house!

Nordstrom Rack has tons of Vigoss jeans, I bought some bootcut Vigoss for $37 last night! Thank you for your recommendation, (honestly, I have never shopped at Nordstrom before.) They are the best looking jeans I have ever worn, and the only ones that fit decently since having a baby a year ago!

hi! love your blog! i had to go up a size in the striped elbow patch sweater. im 5'7" 130# and usually wear a small or size 4. I also bought the girl's army green ruffled jacket in the small and it looks cute even though i'm 5'7" :). I snagged it at the anniversary sale. I love the Vigoss jeans as well – have both light and dark distressed and the skinny. Plan to buy the bootcut and cuffed soon!
