My Goodness Girls, this month is speeding by!
A friend posted this e-card on facebook, and oh how I could relate.
Basically, if it’s not written down on my TO DO list this time of year, it’s simply not getting done.
And if we’re going to be honest, even if it is written down, if I don’t remember to look at the list, then we’re all in trouble. And that happens. Yesterday in fact. It happened yesterday.
So, with the busy season we are in, I’m trying to make dressing as simple as possible right now…
but I of course still want to try to look cute and put together!
I have several outfits coming up in the next couple of weeks that are made up of just the basics!
Basics that many of you already have! 🙂
I want to try to streamline your dressing because it will be just one less thing to think about as you are running out the door because DANGIT IF YOU DIDN’T FORGET ALL ABOUT STOCKING STUFFERS.
Not that I would forget about that.
(Okay, here’s the deal, stocking stuffers weren’t on my TO DO list. And while staring at my fireplace decorations yesterday, I all of sudden realized I hadn’t even thought about what to put in them.)
I’m wondering how many of you just put Stocking Stuffers on your list?!?
Anyhoo…
Today is about as simple as you can get.
Jeans, Booties, a Striped Shirt, and a Military Jacket.
The inspiration picture included a beanie.
I’m not a beanie person, but if you are, well then by all means.

I HIGHLY recommend my Barrington tote,
I’ve never loved a bag more….but if you want some less expensive options, here are 2 great options, both UNDER $50:
I’m wondering, do you ladies like the way I’m displaying options in the small thumbnail pictures like above? I feel like it’s super user-friendly, but I want to make sure y’all like it too! If you have an opinion, please leave it in the comments!
Also, do you like it when I display the prices under the pics or not?
And on another note,
So, my next recommendation is for THESE.
They come in black, dark brown, olive, and whiskey (which looks like cognac to me).
I’ve talked about them on the blog a lot, but recently I’ve received lots of comments from you ladies that have them and love them!
Click HERE for the regular version. (495 5 STAR Reviews!)
Click HERE for the wide-calf version. (287 5 STAR Reviews!)
These boots actually came out in 2013, and lots of you got them then.
More of you have purchased them this year too!
If you have these boots, please leave a comment.
There are lots of ladies on the fence that want to hear your thoughts!
At $150, they aren’t cheap, but they are a great value for a boot you will have for years to come!
That’s it for today girls! See you back here on Friday for a random list of current favorites!

p.s.
While looking for striped tees to give y’all options for today’s post, I came across THIS.
HELLO.
I can hardly wait to pair it with my leggings and my UGGs and be goot to go!
Just fyi, I ordered it last night before posting it here this morning.
Because I know how you ladies are. If it’s cute and looks comfy, you order it.
Plus, so many of you already have the leggings…so why not just add the shirt! I like the way y’all think by the way.
#youaremypeople
(I sized up and ordered a medium since I need it to appropriately cover my crotchal area and be blousy with my leggings. Hope that was the right call!)
And because I couldn’t stand it, I had to throw an outfit collage together….knowing that many of you probably already have 1 or both of the items!
striped tunic HERE / leggings HERE / UGGs HERE
Okay, now I’m done.
🙂
Oh wait. No I’m not. Just got an e-mail from Anthropologie!

Some favorites I saw include lounge pants, jewelry, mugs, cozy cardigans, and more!!!!
Okay. NOW I’m done.

I like the little pictures. And I like the prices posted too. I think it makes it very easy to get to items I want to see. Thanx!

I forgot to tell you that I have the military jacket with the aztec sweater sleeves and the cognac tote with the metallic inside, and they are two of my favorite items in my closet. I'm feeling pretty proud of myself this morning. Ha! I think I'll get my sister the jacket for Christmas now that it's on sale. Jessica

So cute! I love mixing basics, and this is a great combination!

Those Sam Edelman boots are under the tree for me and I'm so excited!
Sarah Kuykendall says
Thank you for posting an outfit with items many of us already own. I feel like I've shopped away my money this season! I like when you post prices under the pictures.
Have a great day!

I have the Sam Edelman Penny boots in whiskey. I bought them last year on sale for $132, the most I have ever paid for a pair of shoes, but I knew the minute I put them on that I was keeping them! They are my favorite pair of shoes/boots I own! The leather is incredibly soft. The color is perfect and I love the detail of the back zipper and snap and side button. I wear them w jeans and leggings and with and dresses as well. If you are on the fence about buying them, I highly suggest going for it. They are worth every penny I spent and were a very wise investment piece for my wardrobe as a stay at home mom of young kids. I put them on and instantly feel more stylish and that is a hard thing to do for me!
Sheaffer says
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review Katie! Since I don't own them myself, I know other readers will appreciate your thoughts on them!

Love, love my SE Penny boots! Great price and super cute!

Goodness girl! I love your inspiration and you totally nailed the look! That outfit screams me. Do you hear it? It's screaming Shay. 🙂

I have the penny boots too in cognac and I love them! They are comfortable , go with everything, so cute . My only (super minor) complaint is that the zipper is exposed in the back and it does snag on tights . However, they are perfect with jeans .
Jeni D says
I love the pictures with the prices, it makes it so much simpler to look at the pieces I'm interested in! Great post. And now I'm off to get stocking stuffers
Krista Youngblood says
Love the basics! We get to wear jeans anytime now at work – so long as we don't have customer meetings (I still don't understand why they have to tell grown adults that??) Anywho I will be wearing my military jacket today, thanks! Love the icons and LOVE it when you go ahead and out the price. Thanks for all your hard work! 🙂
Erika Slaughter says
Great look and love that it's all about the basics!!

I like the prices being displayed underneath. I have the boots in whiskey which I think is a great color. Also shopped with a friend who needs the wide or athletic fit and was ready to give up on tall boots until the Nordstrom salesperson told us the wide shaft option was the largest wide option and fits almost everyone who needs that. She loves her whiskey pair and now wants the black pair for xmas!

I bought the penny boots last year in black and love them-very comfortable. Tried the frye boots on this yr but since they have no zippers, I couldn't get them on without a fight. So I ended up buying the brown penny's as an alternative to the frye. So I guess I would give them 5 stars since I own 2 pairs!

Please do not take this as a negative comment, because it is sooo not meant to read that way. I feel like you have been showing us a ton of (cute) repeat outfits. I am ready for a few new ptmt must haves!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi there! Thank you for voicing your opinion in a respectful way! I too would LOVE a new PTMT MUST HAVE, but I just haven't found one lately! I'm always on the look out, and hope to have 1 or 2 more in the near future!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

For some reason I am unable to see the smaller thumbprint pics with prices. I'm not sure why I can't, because everything else on your post seems to show up. In regard to the boots, I too bought them last year in the whiskey and they are by far my favorite boots. I am really tempted to purchase them in the black, but I already own a pair of black boots….maybe I will go for one of the other less popular colors. As always, I love your posts! Wishing you the merriest of Christmas's.

Love, love your outfit picks! Great style! Darn it…..now I have Kendra Scott on the brain!!! I keep seeing some fabulous earrings in my stocking!!!

In case there are any other beanie (o say toboggan) wearers on here, like me…I have that same one in navy and I love it. Slouchy, warm, but not too warm, and perfect for a day you don't want to fix your hair! I got mine on eBay.
{Hi Sugarplum!} says
Yes ma'am…I have every last one of those items! And lucky for me I haven't gotten dressed yet…so I guess I know what I'm wearing today!
Slightly Askew Designs says
CUTE CUTE CUTE as always, friend!!! 🙂

I love the little pictures….then I can click what I like instead of clicking thru all your words 🙂
Amy Kleis says
Love that look! You can seriously wear any shirt with any of the other pieces and have a thrown together look of completion!
Heather says
Cute cute cute and totally polished yet relaxed! #thebrothersmama.blogspot.com

I have the Penny boots in whiskey and love them. I have wider calves but the regular ones fit me just fine. My only complaint is that sometimes the back tab that snaps over the zipper comes unsnapped. Other than that- perfection. I have had them over a year and as the leather gets banged up and ages, I think they just look cooler 🙂
Pamela Zarfoss says
I like the thumbnail pics especially with the prices below. I bought the cognac SE penny boots this year in the wide calf – LOVE them and wear often! I have the black in my cart, but haven't purchased yet. Thank you for posting about them so much – I wouldn't have bought them otherwise. Merry Christmas to you and your fam!
Lisa Burris says
Not a huge fan of the thumbnails, but I don't mind them per se…so if everyone else loves them I…
And to answer your other question – no, stocking stuffers aren't on my To Do list – I've actually never really gotten the point of stocking stuffers. My parents never did them growing up and I can't think of a time when I was ever really that excited about getting a stocking stuffer. So I tend to focus just on more substantial gifts.

Newbie here! Love your blog! Love your jeans and you are lucky you can waer junior sizes! I am a bit hippy and have a big booty so can't wear (squeeze) into them! But if I love your choices that you list! You seem really fun!
rccalyn says
Love this outfit full of basics! Going to recreate it soon. I do like the thumbnail pics and prices, but until just now when I clicked through from the feedly app, I hadn't seen them. In feedly (where I do all my blog reading) it just says "JavaScript disabled" 🙁 Otherwise it's a great feature.
Casey Sisk says
I received the penny boots in whiskey last Christmas and I loved them! They were hands down my go to shoes for the winter months! The perfect color, lovely details, and super comfy! Unfortunately this year while putting my beloved boots on the button snap on the back completely ripped off! This was super unfortunate since the boots were expensive and I anticipated wearing them for years and years! I have not heard this complaint for others, and maybe it was just a faulty boot, but just be aware that this could happen! I will be attempting to fix my boot however since I do love them so much!
Sheaffer says
Casey, take them back to Nordstrom! It doesn't even matter that they are a year old! Take them back, show the salesperson what happened, and I am 99.9% sure that they will give you a new pair of boots on the spot! SERIOUSLY! BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
I really hope you come back and see this response!!!!!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
Casey Sisk says
Sadly they were not ordered from Nordstorm 🙁 I know better than to order from anywhere else now though!
Jess says
Would you ever consider doing a plus size leggings post? I know that doesn't apply to you in the least but I would love to wear leggings but I'm not sure how. Right now I wear leggings to sleep in and I'm starting to think that I look pretty cute, if I do say so myself. 😉 I also need to find some boots that fit over large calfs. That's usually my issue with any type of taller boots. Any help would be great! Thanks!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jess! Of course!!!!! I will totally post great tunics when I find them! About the boots, I've heard that the wide calf version of the Penny boot does the trick for most people!!!!! Good luck!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

If you are also looking for some great leggings, check out So Slimming by Chico's. I have the Hue, and they are fine, but these are fabulous…a little thicker, not so long, and magically slimming! If I had a blog, they would be a Must Have!
Rachel S says
That blue striped tunic tee you posted about today is one that caught my eye a few days ago. It arrived today and I was so disappointed! First, the color in real life is lavender gray… not blue at all. I didn't mind the color but it wasn't what I was expecting. My major disappointment was the fabric and drape. Despite being brand new, it already looked ratty. It somehow clung to my lumps and bumps while still looking shapeless. Very disappointed. I returned it right away. Maybe you will have better luck with it than I did.
Sheaffer says
Oh no! I really want to love it!!!!
Because Shanna Said So says
I agree, all of these pieces are worth the investment and can be paired with just about EVERYTHING!!
Megan Morgan says
I love the look and feel of my Sam Edelman boots, BUT the zipper constantly snags my leggings and tights. For that reason alone, I wouldn't recommend them.
Jennifer L. Hasiak says
Are you making sure the leather strip is covering the zipper on the inside? Sometimes it gets caught at the base and doesn't cover the inside of the zipper.
Megan says
Yep! I should clarify. The top of the zipper pulls on my tights and leggings when I sit down. Maybe I'm too short at 5 feet 2 inches!
Anonymous says
I wonder if there is something defective or a shoe doctor could do. I have two pair and one is over a year old and i have never had one snag. I am 5'4" but short legs they come up to the back of my knee. Or take them back to Nordstrom.
amoveableme.com says
Ooooooo… I am in love with that striped thermal tunic you just bought! Please let us know how it is when you get it. I am thinking it will be a great postpartum option for me in February if I size it up too. So cozy!
Jen says
Love my penny boots in whiskey!
Unknown says
I have the penny boots and they're seriously comfortable! Worth every darn penny for them!
gina says
I bought myself the Penny boots last month after seeing them in one of your posts. Love them and I get compliments every time I wear them. The leather is so soft.
Adriana Ortiz says
I bought my SE penny boots in whiskey when they first came out because they fit so much better than the FRYE Melissa extended calf. I Love the color and they age well. I have never had an issue with the zipper and leggings. I easily wear these as much if not more than my FRYE Veronica Slouch (wide calf). My constant wearing even convinced my sister to have them under her tree this year (well, the box anyway. the boots have not come off her feet since she left the Nordstrom).
I love the thumbnail pics but can only see them when I click over to the blog, they do not show up in the emailed post for me.
Anonymous says
The Frye Melissa button back are a nice alternative to both the Penny and the Frye pull on boot.
Ashley Weeks says
Love the basics! I am a basics girl. And, I like the prices listed. I'm all about snagging a deal and buying on the cheap. 🙂
Jessamyn says
I bought the whiskey penny boots last fall to replace some $30 ones I had from rack room shoes that were on the verge of falling apart. What an amazing upgrade!! I have been so happy with the support they provide plus comfort level and of course I feel confident and put together in them every time. I bought them on sale for $120 and if you're thinking about them right now they are that price again!
MorganizewithMe says
I need to get a military jacket stat. You've convinced me and I'd like to see you wear a beanie too! 🙂

I like having the prices under the thumb nail photos! It is a good quick reference versus going to the link.

I like the thumb nail photos! But I also have a really strange question…can you tell me what type of wood floors those are? I love them. Real wood? Love all the outfits too but my eye is drifting towards floors…we are thinking of new:)
Sheaffer says
Hi Sara! Our new home is a spec home, so I'm not sure because we didn't choose anything. I know they are a dark stain and hand scraped! Sorry I don't have more info!

Ok, so my MUST HAVE leggings just arrived, along with the sweatshirt tunic and sweater tunic. Crotchal area is covered, girl! I do have one favor…you featured some boot socks within the past couple weeks (I think) and I really need some with these tunics and boots. I can't find them on the blog. THANK YOU!
