because wearing leggings to Thanksgiving this year is happening FO SHO.
Yep, that’s right….I’m going to be comfortable AND darling. 😉
I heard on Good Morning America last year that you should actually wear jeans that are a little snug to keep yourself from over-eating on Thanksgiving.
Um, NO THANK YOU.
ELASTIC PANTS FOR ME!)
when I announced them a MUST HAVE. See the original post HERE.
GOOD! FOR! YOU!
Go ahead and give yourself a high five right now.
You already have your Thanksgiving pants ready to go! 😉
If you didn’t already pull the trigger, you need to do it today.
That’s an order.
(If you’re like me, and you had already purchased them, when they went on sale you threw your credit card at the computer and ordered a 2nd pair. The grey pair is now on their way to me!)
It’s safe to say that all of you girls are just as obsessed with your new leggings as I am.
However, even though I received TONS of “I AM IN LOVE WITH MY LEGGINGS” e-mails, I also received plenty of “WHAT THE HECK DO I WEAR WITH MY LEGGINGS NOW THAT I HAVE THEM? e-mails.
I’ve got this ladies.
And guess what?!? Mr. Gosling decided to drop by again today with a message:
Yes, my friend Andrea is responsible for the above awesomeness.
Don’t you wish your friend was as funny and creative as mine? 😉
I mean, “adorable hiney”. Hilarious.
At first my plan was to just hit up Anthropologie and Free People, because they are TOTALLY known for tunic type shirts. (And they do have some REALLY GREAT ONES…so you should check them out for more tunic options after reading the post if you still need ideas.)
I was determined to find some tunics at Nordstrom since I know you ladies are super comfortable ordering from them due to the free shipping and free returns.
(OH, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that even if you don’t have leggings, you still need to read this post! All of the tunics I’m featuring today would also look totally fabulous with just
regular old skinny jeans!)
And THANK HEAVENS for that because I ABSOLUTELY LOVED them once I put them on.
And I really REALLY REALLY REALLY loved this first one you’re about to see.
The first 3 pictures you are all of the same knit tunic, just in different colorways.
And it’s my favorite.
And I think it’s going to be your favorite too!
It is SO flattering (and let’s just be honest here: if something is flattering, I BUY IT)…
and it looks awesome with the leggings.
I feel like I need a drum roll or something.
Or some guy in his own pair of leggings with a trumpet drawing attention to the unveiling of this fabulous find.
But since I’ve got neither….here it is.
If you don’t mind, just imagine some trumpet fanfare.
Yes. It’s my favorite (which totally surprises me). I’m never really drawn to blue.
Okay, now if you like the black and grey one above (in the first picture), you are going to need to pay attention because it’s about to get kind of confusing. You see how the blue and black below is called “colorblock”. Well, now look back up at the first one that is black on top and grey on the bottom. That is called “colorblock” too. However, if you click the one that says “black/grey colorblock” on the Nordstrom site (3rd from the left on the top row) it is a picture of the black and grey wide stripe.
However, if you click on the 1st one on the left on the bottom row, you will see that is also the black and grey wide stripe. I called Nordstrom, lots of calls were made within the company, and they did finally confirm that if you order the “black/grey colorblock”, even though the picture is of the wide stripe, you will receive the colorblock…which is the first picture.
They are currently working on correcting the mistake.
So, if you want the blue/black colorblock click HERE
If you want the grey/black colorblock click HERE (even though the picture isn’t correct, Nordstrom said you will actually be ordering the colorblock and not the stripe).
I know. SO confusing, but I hope I explained it okay!
All you need to know is that I am IN LOVE with this tunic, and I really think you should be too.
I strongly encourage (listen to how polite I’m being) to give this a try for yourself.

medium-weight knit tunic that has enough body to hang nicely and
conceal figure flaws; it does not cling to them. The knit is also light
enough that you won’t suffocate. It is long enough to easily “cover the
subject” when wearing leggings yet short enough to avoid
looking frumpy and dumpy. Tunic length and knit weight almost, but not
quite, qualify it as a sweater dress. Comfy!
Hahahahahahahaha!
It seems to run true to size, but it is a roomy style.
Which is perfect, because you don’t want your tunic to be fitted!
For size reference, I am wearing a small in the grey and black colorblock and the blue and black colorblock, and I liked the small fit the best on me.
The red and black stripe is a medium (because that’s what they had left in the store), and it was a little too baggy for my liking. However, if you want a bit roomier of a fit, then just size up!
Okay, so I think it’s now painfully obvious that I think the above tunic is complete and total awesomeness….
but I found several other items that I was also super excited about!
I was wearing a small in this picture, only because they didn’t have a medium. I know I would like the medium better for a more generous fit.
Click HERE for the cowl neck tunic that comes in 4 colors!
I love the cowl neck, the front pocket, and the overall casual feel of this one.
COZY AND CASUAL…YET TOTALLY POLISHED!
So cute, right?!?
Next up, a PERFECT cardigan to pair with leggings.
(You got to see a sneak peak of this earlier this week.)
It’s leightweight, it has a cute little hood, it comes in 7 colors, and it is the PERFECT length!
Long cardigan HERE (which is now on my My Christmas List!)
This
t-shirt is long enough for me to wear with leggings, but if you are
over 5’4″ or have a long torso, it probably won’t be long enough for
leggings for you. I love it with my skinny jeans too!
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in both the t-shirt and the cardigan.
If you saw the blog on Wednesday, you know I featured Shay’s mom in her MUST HAVE leggings!
Yes. She’s Gorgeous. And yes. She really is Shay’s mom (and not her sister!).
I thought she did a perfect job of showing you how a woman over 50 can wear leggings (she even convinced my mom yesterday to try it for herself!).
So, I decided to show us side by side in our outfits.
I’m a total copy cat.
Leggings at 30-ish :), and leggings at 50-ish :).
Same leggings…Same sweatshirt tunic.
And I think both of us look put together and perfectly age appropriate!
I had totally overlooked this tunic sweatshirt online, but after seeing the picture of Lovie in it, I knew I had to try it on! It looked so cute and cozy!
Click HERE for the tunic sweatshirt that we are both wearing!
It’s only $49, and considering I’m going to be wearing it around 3 days per week, I think that’s going to be worth the money! 🙂
I am wearing a small in the picture (which is my regular size), so if you want a roomier fit, size up!
I am wearing the Miz Mooz cognac wedge boots HERE.
Lovie is wearing the Sam Edelman Penny boots HERE.
And just in case you didn’t see my facebook announcement yesterday….
THE PENNY BOOTS ARE NOW ON SALE!
These are the boots that I’ve been drooling over (and talking about non-stop) and they even made it on to my Christmas list HERE.
Santa – I hope you are listening…you need to get these for me NOW before they sell out!
They were $169 (if I remember correctly), and they are now $135!!!!
Click HERE for the regular version.
Click HERE for the wide calf version.
Both have fantastic reviews!
Some reviewers say they run true to size, and some say to order a 1/2 size down, so read the reviews and decide for yourself.
And wait! My leopard flats are on sale too!
Click HERE for the leopard flats. They used to be around $110 and now they are $87!
And actually, all of the Felicia flats (cognac and nude too) are now on sale….$71! Click HERE!
Sam Edelman flats are crazy comfy!
And fyi, I received YET ANOTHER e-mail about the Penny boots this week:
My Sam Edelman Penny boots came today and they are FABULOUS! They are
the third pair of boots I’ve tried for my wide calves – even the wide
calf styles don’t usually fit. Thank heavens Nordstrom will let me ship
them back for free. But these don’t have to go back because they FIT
AND I LOVE them! I am now free from boot envy and will probably wear
them every day for a week. Thanks so much for finding these and
spreading the word!
Claire
Thanks Claire!
So, before we get back to more tunic options, let’s talk about one more footwear option.
So, we know my cognac wedge boots (HERE) and the Penny boots (HERE) look great with the leggings. Here’s another option:
All TOMS Nepal boots HERE.
INFO SAYS THESE RUN TRUE TO SIZE and I found that to be true.
AND CHECK OUT THE TOMS CODE RIGHT HERE!!!!
If you are planning on ordering more than 1 pair of TOMS (maybe one pair for you and one for a gift?) you can receive $10 off any purchase of $100 or more at TOMS!

MY CODE WAS WRONG EARLIER THIS MORNING, BUT I’VE CORRECTED IT!
Next up, a blast from the tunic past.
I know many of you fell in love with this tunic when I posted it
(even though they weren’t available at the time). I got a facebook message from a sweet reader (Thanks Amy!) yesterday that this tunic is on sale at Bloomingdale’s right now.
With the code FANDF you get 20% off!
If you are tall and/or have a long torso, you will probably need to wear a tank under it to adequately cover the crotchal area.
(Sorry the purse still isn’t available.)
If you are tall or have a long torso, the top above won’t be long enough for you, so keep that in mind.
I did get an e-mail, or blog comment, or facebook message (can’t find it now) from a reader on Wednesday suggesting THESE long ts for tall girls with long torsos. Thank you reader!
She says they are fabulous and are the only t-shirts she has found that work for her.
Click HERE. They are only $24, so you tall ladies should check them out!

I left Nordstrom and headed to Anthropologie.
Love the color, Love the collar, Love the one pocket, Love the round edges on the bottom.
Love it all.
I know lots of you love the denim and legging look together (as do I), and this is a perfect pairing!
And here’s a tip for you, if you are ever trying to sell me something, just tell me I look skinny it it. Because if you tell me that, then you can pretty much guarantee that I will purchase it.
What’s that you say sweet salesgirl (who I’m sure works on commission)? You think I look skinny?
Aw, shucks.
Wrap it up!
with our crotches and our hineys covered. 🙂
Now, I don’t mean to be bossy right now (actually, maybe I do), but if you don’t have the leggings yet, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
They are a MUST HAVE for crying out loud! 😉
Do I need to remind you that they used to be $38, but now they are $27.
$27! FOR A MUST HAVE!

My brain is spinning! SPINNING! There was just so much cuteness and fabulousness is this one post that I can't even absorb it all! And Ryan Gosling…hello?! Andrea out did herself on that one! You have convinced me that leggings can be worn at least 5,298 different ways. I love, love, love my Hue leggings (of course, I bought two pair) and now, I know I will love these tunics too. I'm off to shop!
Lyndsey says

The Ryan Gosling pic is so funny! I love me some leggings and a cute top. PS…I loved the name of this post.
SarahN says
I just love you. I need that denim shirt! Actually, I need it all! But I can really justify the shirt – what size are you wearing in the denim shirt? Need to order ASAP 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi Sarah! It's a medium!!!! I need the extra length!
SarahN says
Thank you! I was wondering about that. I'm ordering a medium too 🙂
Nikki says
I've already shared this post on Facebook…there has been A LOT of chatter lately among my friends about unsightly legging outfits.

I've already shared this post on Facebook. There has been A LOT of chatter lately about some (ahem!) unsightly legging outfits spotted around town.

I've already marked tomorrow morning off the books for my hubby to watch my kids so I can head to Nordstrom! I've got leggings, shoes, and tunics on my mind AND I'm going to pick tomorrow as a 10 point day on my Nordstrom card! Watch out!! Adorable and wonderful post, as always! Thanks Sheaffer!!
Erin and Ryan says
QUESTION! I really love these tunics, BUT do you only shop at Nordstrom? I'd love to see some store variety :0) xoxo
Sheaffer says
Hi Erin! Your settings are set to "no reply", so I hope you check back here for your answer. The main stores I shop at are Nordstrom, Loft, and Gap. There are two choices from Anthropologie thrown in today (the last 2 tunics), and there are going to be several more Anthropologie choices on Monday. And my Santa Alert today is from LOFT. But yes, I but I do mostly shop at Nordstrom. I feel it has the most variety and when shopping for both myself and the blog, it's easier to focus on just a small number of stores. I will try to work on throwing in more variety in the future!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

Love the red and black tunic and that cowl neck one … so cozy looking!
Debbie @ Deliciously Inspired says
Wonderful post. I am 55 (the mom of Tamara – The workout mama – she told me about your blog). – Love Shay.. I just ordered the wide band leggings – the black and blue color block tunic and a few other items to give a try. Thanks for the inspiration.
Kelly says
love this post! I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant…but since it is my first, I'm still in the small bump stage and have been wanting to do some leggings with tunics…do you think the first style would be roomy enough if maybe I went one size up for some extra growing room?
April Parrish says
Lots of awesomeness today!!!!! You did a great job picking out some great tops to cover our crotchal area! My favorite is the first sweater in blue and black. Looks super comfy and stylish. I also like Lovie's tunic. Did I miss the link??? Where is it from?
And no need to worry—You look SKINNY in EVERYTHING!!! 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Sheaffer….your timing is perfect! I don't have Nordstrom near me but will be in the Chicago area tomorrow and shopping at Nordstrom for sure! I love my Hue leggings and will be checking out that color block tunic, among a host of other Nordstrom suggestions from you!

Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
This very well could be my favorite post ever. Seriously. I live in tunics in the fall/winter and my collection needs to grow. YES! Leggings are a must for Thanksgiving. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of these picks.
Daily Express says
Very cute tunic choices today! I think I'm going to be the last woman in America to adopt "leggings as a regular outfit and not just gym-wear" style. I don't know if I can be turned to the dark side, but I'm getting pretty close with some of these cute top options.
Cathy says
Seriously you should model for Nordstrom or you should advise their website dept because I would never have looked twice at the color block tunic after seeing the pictures on their website – but when I see it on you in your pictures it looks great. I am sure others agree with me and you've even said it yourself. Their website pictures need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, I've said it before and I will say it again, when you live in the sticks Nordstrom is great for online shopping – unfortunately my budget doesn't allow too many purchases. (the blardigan is on my Christmas list)
Sheaffer says
Hi Cathy! You are TOO SWEET! Thank you for the kind words!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
iMaWYFe says
Love the color block tunic! would you suggest it one size down?
Sheaffer says
I don't suggest going a size down. I'm wearing a small (I am normally a small) in both the grey and black and the blue and black. I'm wearing a medium in the red and black stripe. I preferred the small, but if I would have gone down a size (an x-small) I think it would have been too fitted for my liking.
Hope this helps!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
iMaWYFe says
Thank you!

My leggings arrived this week and you are right…THEY.ARE.AMAZING! Love the tunic suggestions too! Can't wait to shop 🙂
Melanie Lien says
That denim tunic is beautiful!
Sabrina says
I love it all Sheaffer!! I bought a denim tunic after your legging post not too long ago…I sized up to make it more roomy and longer…best decision ever! My size theory with leggings and tunics is that I just don't pay attention to the size…just the fit!! haha!!
What on earth would we do without you!?!?!?
Liz/happymommy says
Ok, so even though I have never wore leggings cause I just have bigger legs and I think they look wrong on me, I read this entire post cause you are just to darn funny all the time and I can't get enough! And I still think Lovie could pull off being Shay's sister, she's just beautiful! Happy Friday!!!
{Hi Sugarplum!} says
Why do you think I bought the Vigoss jeans?! Because you said I looked skinny!!! I may have bought the company even. 😉 Love that colorblock, and love the hooded tunic…great finds!! Thanks for doing all the hard work for us!!! Ain't nobody got time for crotchal.
Anonymous says
I have never commented before but I owe that first tunic in black and I am thinking of ordering a second one. It is a fabulous piece and I do not think anyone could go wrong with it. Love the sweatshirt tunic.
Sara Laverty says
What in the heck is GMA thinking suggesting you wear tight jeans to Thanksgiving dinner?! Noooo thank you! Comfy pants fo sho!
Your blog is the best and I'm glad you are leading the crusade to fight the bad legging choices some gals are making! 🙂
Kerry says
I never post, but the title just made me do it! HELLO!!! Praise the Lord!! Cover your crotches and buns ladies! I nearly went up to a lady at the grocery store yesterday and gave her shirt a little tug as to say, "nobody wants to see that lady – really." I'm 5-4 on a good day so there are GREAT ideas without swimming in the tops! Blog love to you!!
smk053078 says
The black and gray tunic???? Girl, you are killing me….I cannot shop…and I want this one!! And the graphic your friend made is freaking hilarious!!
Ashlee says
The first tunic you linked to it in your original leggings post so I threw one in my cart when I ordered the HUE leggings and you're so right if you changed the name of your blog to 365 days of my favorite leggings and tunic I would still read because I feel the EXACT same way! It's so so perfect I want to order all of the colors! all of them. Even my boyfriend commented how cute I looked in that same outfit and he hardly ever comments on my clothes unless I ask him. It is a must must must buy! And I am ordering the blue and black right now!
Stacey says
Sheaffer I bought that tunic from Anthro last week when they had free shipping. Mine doesn't gather the way yours does. I think something is not quite right with it but I love the print of the fabric. Might have to get it altered a little because it's a keeper.
Rachel says
Thanks for all the tunic suggestions! I love the blue & black one on you! When I bought 3 pairs of leggings a few months ago, I thought I could pull them off with just a maternity tank top, but quickly realized that only tunics would be long enough. Happy Friday!

This post made me laugh because I actually bought those legging the other day just so I could wear them on Thanksgiving! It was the perfect justification for me.

Ok my favorite blog post yet. Hilarious title! My leggings arrived yesterday so can't wait to look into these tunic options. Glad my bday is this month!!

I bought the Hue leggings and now I am waiting on my new Penny boots!!!!!!! (hoping the wider calf will work!!!) Fingers crossed!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Love all your ideas! Question on Lovie's tunic – it looks like you are wearing the Stone color – is Lovie wearing the Stone or the Grey/Ebony color? They look like different colors but it may just be the lighting. Thanks!
Amy K says
Just want to throw in my 2 cents….I'm good with the choice of Nordstrom! As a busy Mom, healthcare professional and "must get 8 hrs sleep to function", I don't have much time for shopping. Free shipping, free returns, a wish list to hold things until payday (LOVE that!). It just works!! Thank you!
dooverdecade says
Well, Shaeffer, I've been in love with my Lysse leggings for quite a while now. I've got cropped and ankle length in every color, and I've been scooping up tunics and dresses and long tops to wear with them this fall/winter. Unfortunately, I live in Houston, and our two cold fall days just came and went, so I'll have to wait a while. In the meantime…
I'm afraid I'm going to get a credit alert on my Nordstrom card for suspicious activity! I have purchased and am now awaiting the delivery of the Sam Edelman boots, the must-have Hue leggings, and several of the tunics you've recommended. And maybe a few others. I even ordered some Hanky Panky underwear, which is totally not my kind of thing, but since your readers insist on it and you confirmed it, it's in the mail as well.
I am trying to manage expectations, knowing not everything will work for me, but I hope, I hope, I hope!
I promise to email you and rave when everything comes and I LOVE it!
xo,
Kelly

So in love with the colorblock tunic! It's perfection. And that cardigan, I must purchase those long t-shirts to go with it. Off to shop and add things to my wishlist!

I love this post! I don't usually comment either, but this has got to be my favorite. I have been searching for decent leggings for a long while and the HUE ones (that you posted were on sale on FB last Saturday…woot woot!) totally fit the bill. LOVE THEM! I have been wanting to find cute tunics as well and I can't wait to try these out. I have the Penny Boots on order (can't wait) and just got the LOFT red coat (it's beautiful!). Love you and love that we are about the same size (5'5", size 4), which makes this BLOG so handy!! Thanks again for doing so much "research" for us all!!
Alison Steigler Moyle says
Went to Nordstrom today and came away with the black & gray colorblock tunic, the sweatshirt tunic AND the Penny boots! My credit card is on FIRE after finding your blog! Having so much fun!

I am in the process of completely revamping my entire wardrobe, and came across your blog not long ago. So far, because you told me to, I have purchased the Penny boots, which are the new love of my life, the Vigoss jeans, and the must have scarf (unfortunately, the scarf wasn't me and it went back.) I bought the Penny boots last Sunday and found out yesterday, from your blog, that they had gone on sale. I went back to Nordies and they gave me an almost $40 price adjustment!!! Win!! Thank you Scheaffer. I am now constantly stalking your blog for more items. I need a lot of help. Oh and did I rave enough about the Penny boots. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE them!
Becca says
I LOVE this post. So glad I found it. I've been looking and looking for tunics. Because I really just want to wear pajamas everyday, and this is the closest I can get. 🙂

Sheaffer, I absolutely LOVE your blog and was so excited to discover it this year! You have tremendously helped me with my wardrobe!! I have a special request. Every year at this time, we are invited to several Christmas parties and I always stress over what to wear. We have three to go to this year – all three with different people and so I would love to just have one special outfit and wear it to all three parties!! But I don't know what to wear! I would love for you to do a post on party outfits! I could wear leggings and boots if I had a special sparkly sweater that dressed it up. Or I could wear a dress if it wasn't too over the top. I would love to see what you come up with! At the parties we go to, some women are absolutely decked and some are just in jeans so I kind of like to find something in the middle but I stress over it every year! So I would love to see that post if you have time!!! Thanks!!!
Amy F. says
I now have my Thanksgiving outfit COMPLETE!!!! Boy do I just love your blog. Between your blog and Shay's blog you dress me and Shay provides recipes for me to cook for me and my family. I don't know about all of you other ladies, but I believe we HAVE IT MADE! You guys are the BEST!!!! I must ask, what color is your nail polish that you are wearing in the collage picture at the bottom of the post???
Sheaffer says
Hi Amy! Your settings are set to "no reply", so I hope you check back here for your answer. My polish is OPI "Tickle My France-Y". Thanks for the sweet words about the blog!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

What do you wear, on your feet, with your leggings when you're inside and not wearing shoes? Lets say for a get together or Thanksgiving? J live wearing leggings when I'm out and can wear cute boots, etc. but what about if you're at a friends house and have to take your shoes off?? I don't want to go barefoot in the winter, but also don't want to wear my white ankle socks 😉
