Well, just like that…summer break is over.
And it makes me want to bawl.
I’ve said it before, but my family is reallllllllllly good at summer, so we are always super sad to see it go.
We thrive in the late nights and the late mornings. We spend so much great quality time together, and we really enjoy the much slower pace that summer brings. WELL, THAT’S OVER. Carter starts school on Wednesday, and while he has a week or so that he gets to arrive at school at normal time, football starts up soon. And once football starts, we really hit the ground running because that means 5:30 a.m. wake-ups around here. Still, Carter loves it, and he seriously never complains. This year he plans to go out for kicker, so he’s definitely excited about that.
I’m guessing school starts in the next couple of weeks for most of y’all too, so it’s time to get prepared. It’s now or never, baby!
Today’s post is short and sweet.
There’s a BACK-TO-SCHOOL sale going down at Macy’s right now, and everything you see Carter wearing today IS ON SALE (and the sale goes through the weekend). I encourage y’all to SHOP NOW to get the best BACK TO SCHOOL DEALS during their ONE DAY SALE! Click HERE for everything on sale FOR BOYS and click HERE for everything on sale FOR GIRLS. And if you are going to check it all out for yourself, make sure you use the category filters down the left-hand side of the screen. You can choose sale items based on gender, on size, on amount of % off, color, brand, etc. The filters will help make your shopping so easy!
And here’s the deal… even though I might not be ready for school to start, this kid has a great attitude about it.
Carter doesn’t really care about brands anymore, but he still insists that his clothes are comfy and cozy. (If the occasion requires a button, zipper, or collar, Carter is annoyed. Ha!)
But hey, comfort is of high importance to me as well, so I totally get Carter’s comfy criteria. #iunderstandit #andirespectit
Almost every single day, you will see Carter in some combination of an athletic shirt and a pair of athletic shorts. It’s just how he rolls.
Occasionally you will see him in jeans, but not often.
During football season he does dress up on game days, and he actually kind of got into it last year, but every other day he’ll be living the comfy life.
And listen, If I had my way, I’d still be dressing him in jeans and button up flannels with puffer vests layered on top.
Sadly that hasn’t happened since like 1st grade, but he sure was cute with that puffer. 😉
Once the temps start getting cooler, he usually just trades out his athletic shorts for long athletic pants. But as I’m sure you other mamas with middle school boys know, for some reason it has to be BEYOND COLD to necessitate the switch to pants. I don’t get it. It’s not like the pants are any less comfy than the shorts, and it’s almost like wearing pants is embarrassing. WHICH OBVIOUSLY MAKES NO SENSE, but it is what it is. #13yearoldboysareweird
And here’s the deal, even though I sometimes wish his would vary his wardrobe a little bit, I can appreciate that his outfits are totally effortless. And listen, I really appreciate that shopping for him is super easy.
Being a mom of 1 son and no daughters, I can’t even imagine the opinions and drama that a girl might bring to the table about her fashion choices. I vividly remember longing for a pair of jeans and a denim jacket to match with BOWS ON THEM to kick off my 8th grade year. The set was at a local boutique, and I remember paying a pretty penny for it. #theheartwantswhatitwants #wetotallysplurged
But my goodness I REMEMBER FEELING MYSELF THAT FIRST DAY. The jeans had zippers at the ankle with a denim bow at the top, and the jacket had a couple of cut-outs on the back with the denim bows between. IT WAS A LOOK, and I was on top of the world that day.
There’s no doubt that I’ve got it incredibly easy over here!
See, I told you!
Short and sweet!
I already miss having this young man around every day, but I’m excited for what the year holds!
Whether you have sons, daughters, or both…don’t forget to THE BIG ONE DAY SALE happening over at Macy’s this weekend.
Also, tomorrow I’m going to have 1 additional post for the week where I highlight some of my favorite sale items, so get excited for that too.
A huge thank you to Macy’s and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

My oldest is 16/a junior this year, and still will only wear comfy clothes, LOL. And also wears shorts as long as possible (though living in Indiana, I eventually have to put my foot down because #windchill)! I did find him some drawstring/elastic waist khaki pants at Old Navy that might be a nice compromise on dress-up game days…they are still his last choice, though. 😉 Enjoy the rest of your summer! We went back to school on July 27th and are still adjusting! #sotired

I’m just saying, he has “man legs”. When did those babies of ours get so BIG?! I’m so sad they’re going to 8th grade!!!

We don’t go back to school until the day after Labor Day – it’s a MN thing. I honestly cannot imagine sending my kids back to school when it’s in the 90s. That’s still too much of summer, for me! 🙂 I hope it’s a fantastic start to the new school year!
