It’s January 25, and it’s time. It’s time for me to get healthy.
Let me rephrase.
It’s time for me to get healthy… again.
If you’ve been around for awhile, then you’ve heard me talk about how I gain and lose weight every year. Now I haven’t stepped on a scale in a good long while….but I do know that I’ve gained weight since last summer. Luckily, I haven’t gained it all back, because my clothes aren’t as tight and my face isn’t as full as it was last December and January. However, I’ve definitely gained some back, just like I do every year. I lose weight January-May, and then I gain weight August-December. It’s a tradition of sorts. A stupid tradition, but a tradition.
Here’s what I know about myself: When I put my mind to it, I can lose the weight. But I have to wait until I’m ready and ALL IN. Well, I’m ALL IN.
And now that I’m all in, my plan will be the same as what it’s been in year’s past.
First and foremost, I will make REALLY healthy food choices. Lots of clean eating, lean protein, and fresh fruits and veggies. For me personally, I know it’s way more about what I eat (and my portions) than how much I work out. I think that’s probably the case for most. However, I will also work out 4-5 days a week. I’m going to get back into my routine with my neighbor where we do Beach Body work outs in the morning at her house. We typically do a combo of aerobic and strength exercises, and it works for me.
I’m working with Macy’s and Shopstyle today to hopefully motivate y’all to get on a healthier track too. I’m obviously not a dietician, a nutritionist, or any sort of exercise guru…so you will definitely want to consult your doctor before starting any type of new food or exercise regimen.
Today is just about getting excited about getting healthier. I’m going to be sharing some work out gear, and I’ll be highlighting a new tool I’ve just recently started incorporating into my get healthy routine.
We’ll get to the cute clothes in a minute, let’s talk about the new tool!
It’s a Magic Bullet by Nutribullet! There are several to choose from at different price points, but we decided to get the one with 5,576 5 STAR RATINGS! And a recommendation rate of 89%!
So what is a Magic Bullet? Unlike blenders and juicers, the NutriBullet® is specifically engineered to help break down the cell walls of food to create some of the most nutritional smoothies available. This unique extraction process transforms food into its most nutritious, most absorbable state.
I mean, I’m all for drinking a delicious smoothie. But a delicious AND GREAT FOR YOU delicious smoothie? Sign me right on up.
In addition to making smoothies, other reviewers spoke of grinding herbs, grinding seeds and nuts, and making nut butters, vinaigrettes, and sauces.
I like that it is compact, powerful, and easy to clean. And I also love that this model was rose gold. #silly #buttrue Okay, enough glamour shots of my new Nutribullet. Here are some specs:

- 900-watt motor base; 25,000 RPM
- Extractor blade
- 32-oz. Colossal cup
- 24-oz. Tall cup
- Flip-top to-go lid

- Comfort Lip Ring
- Recipe book
- Pocket nutritionist
- 1-year limited warranty
So far I’ve only used it to make smoothies. I’ve stuck to a really simple smoothie recipe, although I know there are thousands to choose from on Pinterest.
It came with this handy dandy recipe card for how to make the a perfect NutriBlast smoothie. I’ve made several, they’ve all been awesome, and I of course love knowing that I’m getting the most nutritional value out of the fruits and veggies that I can.
One of my favorite simple smoothies follows the ratio suggestions on the card.
I went with 50% spinach leaves and 50% frozen fruit. I love the flavor and the consistency of both frozen strawberries and a frozen mango after they are blended. And I’m not a banana girl (even the smell makes my gag reflex kick up), but I know that bananas are great to add a wonderful creamy texture to smoothies. I’ve actually heard the same about avocados, but even though I absolutely love avocados, I haven’t been brave enough to throw one in a smoothie yet.
And per the suggestion on the card, I added a “boost” too. I chose chia seeds this time. I’ve also added vanilla protein powder in the past as well.
And because I like my drinks slushy and cold, I added just a tiny bit of crushed ice. However, when using frozen fruit, I’ve found that I don’t need the ice. If using fresh fruit, I do like to leave room for plenty of ice because I like the texture it gives to the smoothie.
For this particular smoothie, I used some Vanilla Almond Milk with a hint of honey. I’ve also used water and coconut water.
I’ve had so much fun playing with different combinations, and my favorite combo right now is 2 cups of spinach leaves, frozen pineapple, coconut water, and chia seeds. It’s bright green from the spinach, but super sweet because of the pineapple and coconut water, and I don’t taste the spinach at all. This would be a great one for kids, and you could totally add protein powder to this one too! I hope to work up to including more veggies and not as much fruit, so I’ll be searching Pinterest for some good recipes.
And then with a simple twist of the wrist, I blended it all right up!
IT IS DELICIOUS, and full of whole food and lots of nutrients. This particular smoothie isn’t particularly pretty because the spinach and the mango gives it a greenish brown tint. But it sure is yummy! Some days I blend up a small smoothie for an afternoon snack. Other days I include protein powder and call it lunch. I usually only do this on extra busy days when I’m out and about. If I’m at home, I prefer to eat instead of drink my lunch.
Sidenote: I absolutely LOVE the wooden serving tray above. I ordered it from Macy’s when ordering my Christmas decor (click HERE to see the Christmas home tour if you missed it), and although it usually lives behind my kitchen sink with soap and a candle on top, I also use it as a serving tray. It makes a beautiful charcuterie board, and I thought it would work perfectly to show off my smoothie ingredients. Here are some different wooden serving pieces that Macy’s carries.
LADIES! All pieces below (with the exception of the the tiered stand) went 60% OFF THIS MORNING! You can click the specific item you are interested in below, or you can click HERE to check it all out.
Also included in the Nutribullet box: a book that tells you all you will ever need to know about your Nutribullet 900 (including some great recipes!), a Pocket Nutrinionist pamphlet, and information on their website and their app! #theresanappforthat
I am very happy with this purchase, and I’m excited to be using it on my Get Healthy journey!
Other appliances at Macy’s that could help you get into a healthy mindset follow. And ALL ARE ON SALE! You know I love my air fryer, and then one on the left is very similar to mine. The big silver air fryer is calling my name, because I love ours so much, I would love to have a bigger one! The next two items are juicers, and we all know that celery juice is taking the world by storm right now. And the storage containers on the right would be great for food prep.
Also, Macy’s has some great kitchen accessories that I wanted to share with you.
Now, before you go, let’s take a look at my new work out gear from Macy’s. If you’re anything like me, getting motivated to start working out again is quite difficult, but cute workout clothes do make the transition easier. I mean, getting dressed is the first step. Right?
AND GREAT NEWS! The Under Armour tee, the leggings, and the sneakers are ALL ON SALE!
I love my entire outfit. And here’s a little secret, it’s not just great for working out, it’s perfect for just running around town too.
adidas zip up hoodie / under armour tee (charcoal) ON SALE/ ombre ankle leggings ON SALE/ adidas sneakers ON SALE
The Adidas zip up hoodie is perfectly sporty and ready for the gym. I LOVE IT. It comes in black as well, which would be a great basic, but I was really drawn to this coral color. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.
Click HERE for all Adidas sweatshirts and hoodies if you would like to see some options.
I’m wearing a basic Under Armour tee in charcoal, and I sized up to a medium, which I always do in work out tops. I never want to be wearing a shirt that is too fitted, especially when I’m working out. This particular tee is 25% OFF right now, making it only $18.74!
You can click HERE for a ton of Under Armour tee choices in both short and long sleeve (and lots of them are ON SALE right now!).
I really love these ombre ankle leggings! I’m wearing a small, and they are a great length on my 5’4″ frame. The leggings have a high waist (which I require), and both the fit and the ombre design are flattering. I bought them at full price, but they are 35% OFF right now, making them only $33! That’s a great deal.
These leggings are the Macy’s brand, Idealogy. I have several friends that really love this brand for athleisure, so you can click HERE to check it all out! Almost all of the brand is ON SALE RIGHT NOW, and I’m thinking that this hoodie with the thumbhole cuffs needs to be mine. When scrolling through all of the items, I think a lot of the pieces look very similar to Northface, but the prices are much lower!
My new sneakers make me feel like I’m walking on air, and I love working out in them. They are my official GET HEALTHY shoes. They are CRAZY comfy, but have plenty of support for the types of workouts that I’m doing. AND Y’ALL! They are on sale for just $55 right now! FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS! For an awesome pair of sneakers!
Click HERE for all Cloudfoam sneaker options if you want to check out other colors.

Shay Shull says
You should totally be running errands in that outfit! Suuuuuper cute!
Erika Slaughter says
What time are smoothies being served today? I’ll be there! 😉
Laura says
You can add frozen riced cauliflower to smoothies to thicken and make it creamy!
Check out #fab4smoothie recipes online for low sugar (less fruit) options that will keep you full.
Sheaffer says
Ohhhhh! Great tips, Laura! Thank you!!!
Marla says
I’d love to see foods and meals you’re enjoying on this journey. I always look forward to following along as you get healthy. You’re motivating so thank you. Good luck!
Narci says
You are adorable in that outfit! Love it!
Lynn says
Thank you for sharing your “get healthy” journey! It is motivating to those of us who are attempting to do this same.
I really appreciate your sharing the quick meal posts that you’ve done in the past. One suggestion- could you tag those or make a file for them or something. This past summer I was looking for an old post of yours where you talked about your quick meal ideas and it took me a while to find it. Many thanks for considering doing that.
Sheaffer says
Great suggestion, Lynn! I’ll think of a label tag so future meals can be easily searchable! xoxo
Beth says
Smoothies are a great way to get lots of nutrients! You want to be careful of using too much fruit though. ALL fruit digests to glucose which spikes your blood sugar and releases insulin. Excess glucose is stored as fat if you don’t use it all as fuel. Sorry, I teach nutrition to nursing students. Most people don’t realize that a bunch of fruit spikes your blood sugar like candy, though it does have the benefit of fiber. Add more spinach and decrease the fruit to lower that blood sugar spike! Blueberries and strawberries are better choices over pineapple and mango! And definitely check out #fab4smoothie or Be Well By Kelly.
Sheaffer says
YES! Thank you, Beth! I mentioned in the post that I wanted to work up to more veggies and less fruit. And I never have more than about a cup and a half or so of fruit even in the fruit heavy smoothies. And good tip about blueberries and strawberries. I for sure don’t want to be sabotaging myself with my smoothies! Ha! xoxo
Kristin says
BUY THE VACUUM!!! Its awesome!!! Use it daily and it really sucks up every crumb and bit of dirt- not just the surface stuff. You’ll love it!!!
Lisa Meyers says
I’m in agreement with Kristen. BUY THE VACUUM! I got it when it was $100 off once, and I still believe it was worth every penny. We use it every single day.
Karen says
For the ladies who already have the vacuum, is it good for stairs? I desperately need a light weight vacuum for my stairs…they are always a mess!
Sheaffer says
Can somebody please comment on this! I’d love to know too! xoxo
Becky Tompkins says
And is it really lightweight? I ask because I have terrible back problems. My Electrolux upright is good but it’s just too heavy for me.
Tiffany says
Yes- it’s perfect for stairs!! It honestly is lightweight!
Addison says
I loved all these smoothies! I’m a big smoothie person too. Definitely try adding the avocado in, I was nervous at first but it made my smoothie so creamy and delicious!
Johannah says
Now I feel extra guilty about the mini chocolate donuts I just ate for breakfast. ??
Sheaffer says
I just lol’d, Johannah! xoxo
Catherine Mauline says
I’m chiming in with everybody else. Buy it now. I use it, my hubby uses it, and our kids use it. It’s easy to maneuver around and it truly does pick up everything. Buy it, you won’t regret it.
Nicole M says
You MUST throw in some avocado! One of my fave smoothies uses avocado (I think half of one), pineapple, spinach, almond milk, and some chia for good measure. I’m sure mango would taste fabulous, too. The avocado makes it AMAZINGLY creamy!
Sheaffer says
Okay! You’ve convinced me! Trying it today!!!! Thanks, Nicole! xoxo
Marianne says
Love your get healthy journey every year! I do exactly the same thing, always have. Here’s to saying goodbye to those pesky few pounds once again!
Kara says
Maybe in one of your nutritional post you could do a Nutribullet giveaway. Fun something to motivate us all.
Angela Sharbono says
Yes Sheaffer!, Please share the foods and meals that you will be eating!!! I love your ideas and many times you have introduced me to foods/products I haven’t heard of or tried before! I love it!
Monica Addington says
hey can you tell me about the new Adidas shoes that you found for like $85 can you do a link for for us I would love it thanks
Sheaffer says
Hi, Monica! I just responded to your e-mail with the link! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Michelle says
I have REALLY been wanting to get one of these!!!!! Question… after you blend it, can you just flip it over and use that cup to drink out of? Does it have a good kid? Would love to be able to blend my smoothie and go!!!
Sheaffer says
It does, Michelle! I’ll put it on instastories today, but it comes with three different tops. A regular lip, a lip with a handle (as shown in the photos on today’s post), and a top that closes that you can pop up and drink out of! Super convenient! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Allison says
Hi Sheaffer! I’ve followed your blog since the very beginning, but I don’t think I’ve ever commented before. I’ve bought so many of your recommended items over the years, and I was so excited today to see you featuring the Ideology leggings. These are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE workout leggings, so I immediately went and snatched a few more up since they’re on sale! I always get compliments on them because they’re so cute, but they also hold up so well! The wide waist band is literally perfect. Love it – thanks so much for sharing!
Sheaffer says
Awesome, Allison! Like you, I have friends that swear by them!!!! Thanks for following along! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kari says
Avocado for the win! It’s a must try. But like with anything you will have to figure out how much makes your palette happy?
Total random question??? Where are your dining table chairs from?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kari! My dining table chairs are from Stacy Furniture! xoxo
Rachel says
My favorite smoothie if you want to brave the avocado: 1 cup vanilla almond milk, 1 cup frozen mango (or strawberry would work too), 1 green apple, a couple of handfuls of spinach, and avocado (1/2 large or about 1 small). This would be 2 servings. It’s so tasty!!!
Jamie Lynn says
Please share some of your loved air fryer meals! We recently purchased one and are looking for new recipes!
Laurie S says
You go girl! Embrace healthy eating and exercising. I haven’t delved much into the world of smoothies (except for a Jamba Juice every 6 months or so). Maybe it’s something I need to look into.
Erin says
Yes please keep us updated on this year’s get healthy journey! Food/meal ideas, updates on how the workouts are going, what you’re putting in your smoothies (and good heavens make sure it’s not too much fruit lest the smoothie police find you!), what you’re wearing…all of it is motivating and fun to follow along—thank you!!
Marsha says
I love your wood board too. Does the tray have a a handle on the end behind the NutriBullet? I couldn’t find yours at Macys…did it sell out? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Marsha! It has a handle on each side, but it sold out back in December. So sorry! 🙁
Marsha says
Thanks! You have great taste!
Susanne says
Could you please do a post or even ig stories of everything you eat in a day? I know I’m not the only one that would love to see that and get ideas for daily meals! Thank you so much
kathy says
I love how real you are. We can all relate, although I think you look great already.
I love any and all recipes of the things you’ll be eating or smoothies. It helps me out, too.
Sydney says
You do realize this is no get healthy “journey” and just one giant yo-yo dieting cycle, don’t you? As a former bulimic dancer, I cannot stress enough how incredibly Unhealthy this warped mindset is. Please do not encourage your readers to go on this so-called “journey” with you. Instead, you might want to make a real journey to a certified nutritionist/dietician. Very, very unhealthy pattern that can lead to so many long-term health problems that are irreversible.
Claire says
I would love to hear more about the air fryer. I got one for Christmas and am still figuring it out.
