Today is Day #3 of Five Days of Fabulous! Weren’t Days #1 and #2 awesome? Shay and I are having a blast and the prizes are just going to continue getting better. The Day #2 winner is Kourtney Ennis! Congratulations, Kourtney!!! You won pajamas and UGG slippers for yourself AND 2 FRIENDS! See yesterday’s post for the choices you have! Shay e-mailed you this morning, so please respond to her e-mail within 48 hours to claim your prize (or another winner will be chosen).
So, what does day #3 hold? Well, I am crazy excited about our giveaway today. When Nordstrom reached out and asked me to talk about shoes, I immediately knew that I wanted to talk about my UGGs…..and in honor of my UGG obsession, we are giving away some today….along with blardigans.
I. KNOW.
SLAP YO MAMA AND CALL ME COZY.
I don’t even know what that means.
But I do know that this giveaway is AWESOME. You can choose the original, baby, or hooded blardigan (more on these later in the post), and you can choose any UGG boots under $250. This is an AMAZING prize!!!
We’ll get to the UGGs in a minute, but let’s start with the blardigans. If you are new around these parts, you need to be educated. 🙂 The original blardigan is an item that I’ve owned for almost 5 years now. I named it a MUST HAVE when I found it back in 2013, and it was a Santa Alert in 2014, 2015, 2016, and now. (I call it a BLARDIGAN because it’s part BLanket, part cARDIGAN….which equals BLARDIGAN.) It’s a gift that I give for all sorts of reasons, including gift giving occasions of course like birthdays and Christmas. I also like to give it to moms of newborns or ladies that are going through really tough times. It’s a gift that spans the ages. I’m telling you, your 14 year old daughter will love a blardigan just as much as your 86 year old grandmother. Although I’m not sure anybody will love it as much as my 9 year old son loves his. Because yes, he has one too.
IT TRULY IS THE BEST GIFT EVER! And over the last several years, new blardigans have come onto the scene: the baby blardigan , the hooded blardigan , and a shawl blardigan…all which will be talked about today. Click HERE to see all of the blardigans in one place.
Here’s the main thing you need to know about blardigans: When you gift one as a gift, you give the gift of being COZY! And at the risk of sounding incredibly cheesy, it’s like you are gifting a hug. FOR REAL. And there’s nothing better than that. #hugsforeverybody
So, since we are talking all different types of blardigans, I thought I would share a reader question with you today that I received a couple of weeks ago.
READER QUESTION: OK…. I have a question, Sheaffer. I have seen a couple of different comments you have made referencing the different blardigans…. about wearing them out in public. Your comment regarding the shawl collar blardigan in this post was: “This one can easily be worn out of the house. It’s not nearly as long as the hooded blardigan or the original blardigan, and the shawl collar really makes it look like a regular cardi, not just a lounging cardi.”
Am I missing something? Are they not meant to be worn publicly? Are people laughing behind my back cause I’m wearing loungewear in public? PLEASE tell me I am not crazy! LOL! Thanks, Sheaffer! And I have to say…. that if I did not follow your blog and take your fashion advice, I would have no clothes at all! – Karen H.
Hey, Karen! I’ve got a realllllllllly long answer for you! And I’ve got a visual aid. 🙂
I wear my blardigans out of the house ALL THE TIME. Some ladies do feel like they look too much like lounge wear to wear them out, but I am not one of those ladies. 🙂 Other people love theirs so much at home that they don’t want to take it out into the real world. They basically want to keep it special and pristine at home! In fact, I’ve heard from lots of readers that say they have 2 for that exact reason: they wear one around town, and they keep the other specifically for home….just like the UGG slippers.
So what’s the difference between the blardigans? Well, check out this picture! This is a timeline of blardigans from first introduced to last introduced.
original blardigan / baby blardigan / hooded blardigan / shawl collar blardigan
outfit links: $19 striped tee / necklace / earrings / $64 jeans / must have boots ON SALE
Yes, I have a lot. But I’ve basically purchased one a year, which is totally acceptable.
Let’s break down the differences.
The original blardigan is definitely my favorite one for lounging at home. The length of it along with the cut of it (the waterfall draping in the front) really allows me to wrap up in it and get super cozy. The arms are quite fitted on this one, which is what I believe allows it to be worn out of the house without looking like a robe. At 5’4″, this is definitely long enough to be worn with leggings. This is also the one I got for my then 7 year old son a couple of years ago….and he still grabs it all the time at 9.
The baby blardigan is quite a bit shorter, has a rounded hem, and it has pockets! It doesn’t envelope you like the original blardigan does, but it’s still super cozy. If you are on the petite side, I recommend this blardigan. Especially if you are going to wear it out of the house. (I mean, if you are only wearing it in the house, who cares if the original blardigan is super long on you! That just makes it cozier!) The sleeves are still fitted with this one, and I wear this one out of the house all the time. If I had to pick only one blardigan (BUT PLEASE! DON’T MAKE ME CHOOSE!), it would be a toss up between this one and the original.
The hooded blardigan is the longest of the blardigans, so you taller ladies need to pay attention! It too has pockets, and this might come as a surprise to you, but it has a hood. #hencethenamehoodedblardigan #clever It has a consistent hem length all the way around, and it’s definitely long enough to be worn with leggings outside of the house. The sleeves in this one aren’t quite as fitted. At 5’4″, it comes very close to grazing the tops of my boots, so I usually wear it with booties for a better proportioned look.
The shawl collar blardigan is the one that has the loosest sleeves, so if this has been an issue for you in the past, this might be the blardigan for you!!!!! The sleeves are regular blardigan material, but the body of this blardigan has a different texture to it. It’s the same amazingly soft material, but it’s almost like a waffle knit. Here’s who needs the new shawl blardigan…those who liked the baby, but didn’t like the tight arms.
Now, when looking at the pictures side by side of all of the different blardigans on me, it was crystal clear to me that the original blardigan and the baby blardigans are the ones that look the best on my frame. SO, since I hadn’t really worn my shawl blardigan yet (I’d only taken pictures in it), I ended up gifting it to my mom for her birthday! AND SHE LOVED IT
Karen, I hope that my essay on the history and use of the blardigan 🙂 helped to answer your question, and I hope seeing all of them styled with jeans helped you realize that all of them can definitely be worn out of the house! You are definitely not crazy! Listen, if wearing them out of the house is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
xoxo,
Sheaffer
And let us not forget the year that Carter got his very own for Christmas. Don’t judge me. It was just as much a gift for myself because I got mine back! #smoothmommove
And now let’s talk about UGGs. Because MY FEET BEING COMFY AND COZY IS SUPER IMPORTANT TO ME. I mean, think about it. You could be wearing a cloud, but if your feet weren’t comfy, it would ruin everything. Right?
So, over the last 3 years, I’ve added 3 pairs of UGGs to my closet….one each year. First I got the Cardy Uggs, then I got the Slim Profile boots, and then I got the slippers just last year. And they are all still available!
Comfy shoes are important to me. I pretty much don’t talk about shoes unless I think they are comfy because I’m not one of those that is willing to suffer for fashion. So I have a closet full of shoes that are really all pretty comfy….some more than others of course….but without a doubt, my UGGs are at the tip top of my list.
Let’s start out with my slim profile UGG boots that came out 2 years ago now (my color is the “chestnut suede”). Basically, they went and fancied up their signature boot. They are everything we know and love about UGG, but now they are better. How are they better? Well, they are prettier and more feminine because they are MUCH slimmer. And if you are like me, you want everything on your body to look as skinny as possible. AND THAT INCLUDES YOUR FEET! ???? This boot also has a bit of a wedge. Which I love. OH! AND THEY ARE WATER RESISTANT! Mine are the medium height, they come in 2 heights at Nordstrom right now (you can find the short booties HERE), and they come in several different colors.
Concerning sizing, I find these slim profile boots to be true to size. I first ordered down 1/2 a size, like I had done with other UGG boots in the past, but they were too small. My normal 6 1/2 is perfect on me! The website suggests to actually order up if you are between sizes.
This is a picture from awhile ago…but this is pretty much how I’m my happiest if I’m running around town. In a baby blardigan, UGGs, and a hat. Mama can GET THINGS DONE in this outfit.
And now let’s see some other outfits with these particular UGGs!
My “chestnut suede” color looks good with white, denim, black, and grey! It’s just a great neutral color that goes with everything.
Outfit #1
I’ve been talking up a storm about this line of fleece tops, and I will continue to. They look great on their own, but they are PERFECT FOR LAYERING since they aren’t bulky. And each style comes in a myriad of colors! Oh, and perhaps most importantly….they are FLATTERING AS ALL GET OUT.
The tie front top is in the outfit below. I’m wearing a small and have plenty of room. The site suggests sizing down, but I went with my regular small. I’m also wearing my regular size 27 in the jeans, but the site recommends sizing down in these as well.

Outfit #2
Here’s another happy moment! This was me just yesterday as I was running to the store to buy ingredients to make the peaches and cream pie for Shay’s Christmas party last night (more on this later).
This sweatshirt is crazy soft on the inside, comes in several muted jewel toned colors, and has feminine pleats across the back. It’s a winner. For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the sweatshirt and a 27 in the jeans, which are both true to size. The sweatshirt kind of leans towards the boxy side, but I actually love it for what it is.\
Also, please notice in this picture how the tops of the boots can be turned down a bit for a different look!

Outfit #3
Black, grey, and cognac? YES, PLEASE!!! This is the twist front top from the fleece top line. I’m wearing a small, which is true to size. If you don’t have a large chest, you might want to consider sizing down. I’m wearing a 27 in the jeans, they are true to size as well.
black twist front top / earrings / $12 necklace / my grey jeans ON SALE / slim profile UGG boots
This is the exact same outfit…except I’m wearing the red version of the twist front sweater! This red is actually a perfectly holiday red, and in all colors but the black, you can really see the details of the twisty front hem.
red twist front top / earrings / $12 necklace / my grey jeans ON SALE / slim profile UGG boots
Outfit #4
Check out this DARLING sweatshirt!!! It’s a sweatshirt, with a flattering cut, and a bow! SIGN ME UP.
I’m wearing a small, but again, you can probably size down if you don’t have a large chest because it’s definitely cut on the generous side. It’s not quite as cozy as the fleece tops or the jewel toned sweatshirt above, but it’s still a sweatshirt! And it’s still cozy!
tie front sweatshirt tunic / earrings / $12 necklace / $64 jeans / slim profile UGG boots
And here’s an inspiration shot from the past…
Just fyi, I’m living in THESE boots both in and out of the house. And I seriously get compliments on them just about every single time I wear them. They are great with jeans, leggings, and pajama pants. And remember, these slim profiles are true to size, so don’t order a size down like you often are told to do in other UGG boots.
Now let’s talk about the first pair of UGGs I purchased, the UGG CARDY LATTICE BOOTS. This is a graphic I made like 3 years ago. 🙂
Here’s a close up of them worn tall. Concerning sizing, these only come in 1/2 sizes, and I got a 6. I’m normally a 6 1/2…but sometimes a 6…and the 6s were perfect on me.
And here’s what they look like folded down. I love them both ways.
So before we see outfits with these boots, I feel like I need to warn you that the sizes in these are dwindling (only 3 sizes are remaining right now). BUT GREAT NEWS!!!!! The regular cardy UGGs are still available in two colors and all sizes! The weave pattern is different, but they are technically the same boots! In fact, if we are going to be honest, I think I like these more. They are just a bit less “fuzzy” that my lattice ones, if that makes sense. I. LOVE. THESE. BOOTS.
So, here’s some outfit inspiration with these! You saw all of the tops and jeans in the above pictures as well, so if you want further descriptions or sizing information, scroll up!

All of the above outfits are with grey jeans, but they also look great with regular jeans and leggings!
This cowl neck is one of my favorites, and I now have it in grey (from 4 years ago), this wine (from last year), and an oatmeal. Yes, it’s that good.

I love my blardigan and could always use another color and I’ve never owned a pair of Uggs! My best girlfriends, Patty and April, do so much for their family and friends, I would love to treat them to some fun comfort things they don’t have! Thanks for having a blog this petite girl can follow!
Jennifer Winchell says
I wear my cardy Uggs folded down with the buttons on the outside. Fold them over unbuttoned, then button them kind of inside out so the big buttons show. You should try it, it looks adorable.
Sheaffer says
I’ve done that before too, Jennifer! And I totally love it that way! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Thanks for your blog today. It was very informative. I was trying to sign up for the drawing and am a little confused about Instagram today. Yours says “Tage four of your friends on Instagram” Then, when I opened it up, it says “tag two of your friends”. I went to Instagram and some people tagged 4 and others tagged 2.
Sheaffer says
Sorry about that! You only have to tag 2 today! Good luck! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Amanda says
Does anyone else have trouble with their blardigan not being as soft as it was when you got it? My original blardigan isn’t very soft anymore and the fabric is kind of pilled up and my newer, baby blardigan is starting to get the same way. Should I not be putting them in the dryer?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Amanda! This happened to my friend Narci’s blardigan. I touched hers one day, and I was like “WHAT THE HECK?” Mine have never done that. I’m not sure what accounts for the difference. Hers was the purple original one. I do put mine in the dryer, so that’s not it. So sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Gail W. says

Totally off topic but I’m sure you’ve been asked this before…can you tell me about your area rug in the dining room? The one in the close up of the Ugg boots? So pretty!
Sheaffer says
It’s several years old from Lulu and Georgia. It was from the Candace Olson line, but I haven’t seen it anywhere in a couple of years. So sorry! 🙁
Karen H says
Thank you, Sheaffer, for the shout out in today’s post! I had not seen your little essay (LOL!), so I did go back and hunt it down! Good to know I am not crazy… I love my blardigans!!
Thank you and Shay for your oh so generous giveaways!!! Y’all are the best!! xo
Bridget Bush says
I tried on the uggs I love them but I can’t afford to buy any.
Cassie Isaacson says
Ok so what size on the baby blardigan?! Do they have these in store to try on?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cassie! I’m wearing an x-small/small. If you want it a little bit oversized, I would size up 1 size. Mine fits closely in my regular size. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Abigail says
Hi Sheaffer! If you’ve answered this question previously then I must have missed it, but I’m wondering how you launder your blardigans. I have had the regular blardigan and baby version for three years now and have noticed that the incredibly plush, silky-soft feeling is dissipating after so many wears. They have been worth every penny and are still my go-to comfy, cozy choice but they have definitely lost some of their original softness over time. Any idea if there is a way to retain the original feel? How do you keep yours in shape? (You know you’re obsessed when you try brushing a sweater! Lol.) Either way, they are still wonderful. Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Abigail! Well, my first blardigan that’s almost 4 years old has started to lose it’s original feel also. I don’t treat mine special in any way, but maybe I need to?!?
Grace lily says
Loved it. The pair of ugg is my favorite one.
