I’m so happy about today’s post, y’all!
I love sharing spaces in our home with you, and today I’m sharing what has recently become my favorite room in the house: THE FAMILY ROOM! I’ve been showing little sneak peeks here and there, and all of you have been so kind, so I’m super excited to reveal the whole room.
Now, the only big new pieces that we got in here are the sofa and the rug. All of the other furniture pieces in the room are the same as before, but we were able to change the entire look of the room with just some new accessories here and there. AND Y’ALL! I scored lots of the accessories from Walmart! I promise you that you are going to be AMAZED.
You’ll see that my decorating preference is to mix old treasures with new items. I don’t like for everything in a room to be brand spanking new, and those that know me know that one of my favorite things is to go digging in an antique store for a vintage piece, even if it’s just a small accessory! I definitely like for some of the items in a room to have a history and feel well-loved.
My hope is that my home will look like it was put together over time, and not just shopped for from a catalog. But in addition to some vintage items, the room of course has some new items as well! And listen, I don’t care where the items come from. I’m not fixated on expensive or designer pieces, and I love a good bargain.
It makes things so interesting and fun when all you care about when furnishing a room is that you love the item! And it brings me so much joy when somebody asks me where something is from, and I’m able to shout out “OMG! It was $12 And you will NEVER BELIEVE where I got it!!!!” It’s one of my toxic traits. If I get a great deal on something, I HAVE to tell the person how much it was. I’m all about the shock and awe. Chris is like, “You know you don’t have to always tell people how much everything costs.” And I’m like “Actually, I do.” Haha!
Drum roll please….
THIS IS OUR NEW FAMILY ROOM!
We’re in love.
There are 7 different accessories in this picture that are from Walmart! And I’ve got 3 more Walmart items in the kitchen!
As a reminder, here’s what the room looked like for the first 7 years we lived here. The sofa was tweed and leather (and so dark!), there were picture frames on the on the sofa table (so you had to see the back of them when actually in the family room), and the rug was neutral and small.
BUT HERE’S THE SPACE NOW! So much lighter, brighter, and happier!
Okay, it’s time to highlight all of my awesome new Walmart home pieces!
Let’s start in the kitchen, because in addition to the glow up the family room received, I also added just a handful of items to the kitchen.
This lamp is adorable. I grabbed it while in store, and I’m afraid you’re going to have to do the same because I’m unable to find it online. The base and the shade are sold separately, but you can get the entire lamp for just under $20! I think it’s worth a trip to Walmart for sure. The size is really perfect for under kitchen cabinets, and I’m all about the soft glow a lamp gives off in any room.
This 13-piece rose gold utensil set is awesome. And I placed the entire set (including the rose gold container) into this turned wood vase I grabbed at an antique store in downtown McKinney. This is the perfect example of mixing old with new. The fit was perfect! I could hardly believe it.
The set includes the following: 1 Ladle, 1 Skimmer, 1 Slotted Turner, 1 Pasta Server, 1 Cooking Spoon,1 Potato Masher, 1 Egg Whisk,1 Slotted Spoon, 1 Cooking Tong, 1 Flat Turner, 1 Flexible Spatula, 1 Basting Brush, and 1 Utensils holder.
The utensils are made of high-quality stainless steel, and the rose gold finish is awesome!
I love having all of these utensils at arm’s length. It’s just so functional to have them right there on the counter instead of all thrown in a drawer.
13-piece rose gold utensil set / hand towel
I’m always looking for places to set hot pots and pans for serving, so I grabbed this colorful trivet. It’s cute enough to be left out.
New and fresh kitchen towels always make me happy. #itsthelittlethings
3-piece kitchen towel set / 2-piece kitchen towel set
And here’s another look at the family room from above! WE LOVE THE TRANSFORMATION.
Now we’re going to take a closer look at all of the lovely little touches that really helped to bring the room together.
You’re looking at the entertainment center chest that we bought when we first bought the house, but we still love it. I grabbed the chairs at an auction right after we were first married, but I like to change the pillows in them every so often.
And Y’all. THE PILLOWS!
I used to have a pair of neutral (but dark) pillows in the chairs, but I knew these pillows would be perfect to help brighten the space up the moment I saw them!
embroidered pillows with tassels
The pillows are such amazing quality! They are embroidered, they have a different material on the back that coordinates beautifully, and they have tassels on all 4 corners. Plus, the pillow itself is just how I like it. Nice and squishy!
This mustard is perfect for our space, but they also come in a pretty cornflower blue and a nice sage green.

There are two items in this picture that are both from Walmart, and I’m betting you can’t spot them.
This pillow and this pouf are both from Walmart! Can you even believe it?
And although my little side table is over 10 years old, I found this plant stand that I also think would look great in this room. It’s smaller than the table for sure, so keep that in mind.
The pillow actually looks like it could be a $150 pillow! And the pouf is such a nice touch (that totally looks designer). I will say, when my pouf arrived, it was darker than I thought it was going to be, but it totally worked! Also, my pouf has “leather” piping on the corners, and the online pouf didn’t show this. Still, I really liked the product I received. (Sadly, my pouf seems to be going in and out of stock. You can click HERE for another blue and white option and HERE to check out several poufs.)
brown and neutral pillow / yellow embroidered pillow / pouf
I mean. Charlie isn’t so sure about the new room (specifically the new sofa), but he sure does coordinate well with the decor. 😉
Do you see the sofa table behind the sofa? Let’s take a closer look at how it’s styled.
If you remember, this sofa table used to have the red box in the center (from an antique store), and then the table was filled with picture frames with family pics. I loved the view from this side with the family pics, but the view from the other side was just the ugly backs of picture frames. I love how it’s so much cleaner and tidier now!

candle / brass tray / blue and cream throw / basket
My vase came from a local boutique, and I filled it with faux olive branches myself. But if you click HERE, Walmart has an awesome option for you of a similar vase already filled with eucalyptus leaves. It doesn’t look to be as large as mine, but it’s only $12! It’s a great way to get the look for less.
candle / brass tray / blue and cream throw / basket
I picked this candle for its neutral color palette, and I’m happy to report that it smells amazing as well! It is “salted coconut and mahogany”, although it comes in lots of different colors and scent options.
I love baskets that are filled with blankets. It makes the room look cozy, and it’s great that the blankets are easily accessible for when you want to cuddle up on the couch.
This blue and cream throw is on sale now for just under $13, and this basket is just under $20 and the perfect place to throw a bunch of blankets. I love that the light-colored wicker contrasts with the dark wood of the sofa table. I used to have a dark basket here, but this lighter one is so much better. I also love the handles and the shape of this particular basket.
So that’s it! The family room is definitely our favorite place to be as a family. And we feel confident that the dogs will grow to love the new sofa too. Haha! (And since I know I’ll get questions, they are allowed on the new sofa when we are on the sofa as well. We just put the throws over the cushions when we know they are going to join us.)
I love how all of my Walmart home finds really brought this space together!

MORE HOME FINDS…
I was so inspired after finding the Walmart pieces for my home, that I wanted to hop online and keep exploring what they have to offer.
And I must say, I was consistently FLOORED.
I love that Walmart makes it so easy for all of us to add beautiful and affordable pieces to our homes! As you can see from the pieces in my home and from checking out these other home finds, Walmart really does allow all of us to enjoy fall home trends for less.
blue pillow / yellow pillow / rust pillow / cozy blanket / basket /set of cane club chairs / throw / pendant light
pumpkin cast iron dutch oven / candle / pillow
olive tree /plant basket options / storage cabinet / table lamp / rug / basket set / pouf / tray with handles/ brass tray / vase with eucalyptus branches
All of the pillows in the collage are adorable and would fit into lots of different homes while allowing you to infuse some color and texture for not much money. This cozy blanket has near perfect reviews and is being compared by everybody to internet famous blankets that are $150 (or sometimes more!), but this one is just under $25! It also comes in neutrals, solids, and stripes.
And this set of cane club chairs look like they are designer (from a catalog I get in the mail and totally drool over every single time). They are incredibly classic and totally chic.
I would seriously love all of these items in my own home. In fact, 6 of the items you see in the collage are items that I did in fact purchase for our home and that you saw displayed in our kitchen and family room. I’m thinking about grabbing this rug in a 3×5 for the small hallway by the guest bath. And I already grabbed this cozy blanket to see if the hype is real! #ididitforscience

So, are y’all as blown away by these home items as I am? I truly am delighted with how the items look in our space, and I’m so happy I was given the opportunity to share everything with you today. It is my hope that y’all are willing to try out some Walmart items in your homes as well. I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
A huge thank you to Walmart and Shopstyle for the super affordable and on trend home pieces and for sponsoring this post.

Love the new refresh and styling, you did a great job! If you can add a lamp on the sofa table behind the sectional it would provide light and some height dimension. We share similar styles and the love of a thrift hunt… 2 tips for fun finds is head to Grapevine and hit up my secret shopping place, Angel’s Attic a thrift store run by all volunteers from White Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. All $ made from this store is used for charity donation/mission work. The church is in my neighborhood in Southlake and there is some really great finds(think $$$) of all things, art & furniture as well. I never fail to find something, a great place for cheap faux silks that I repurpose in other containers. Nearby is Grapevine Antique mall with vendor booths that have some good stuff. I have found many things including antlers, rustic, art work, furniture etc. There you never know what you can find. Love the Walmart finds!

Hi, Carly! I would love a lamp on the sofa table, but we don’t have an outlet in the floor. 🙁 Thanks for the thrifting tips! Those places sound awesome! xoxo
Carly says
There are some options for that. A simple one if you have a lamp that may work, order on Amazon a battery operated WITH remote puck light. You can use wire or sometimes velcro( I like wire) and wire the puck light to sit on the bulb area with puck light pointing UP, and flat side down. Basically it sits on that area and wire secures it. Then use your light remote to turn light off and on. The remotes have timers so you can set it to go off at dusk and turn off hours later. It isn’t as great as a bulb with more wattage options but provides some light. I use this often on walls when adding lighted sconces that have no electrical to them.

Thanks for the tips, Carly! xoxo

Where is the patterned rust oblong pillow from?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Tanya! I LOVE THAT PILLOW TOO! Copy and paste this into your browser: https://rstyle.me/+w9JOfHbnacsK6g3GhqtYDA

Looks great! Question for you–are your dogs allowed on the sofa? I would love to have a lighter sofa but I’m so afraid it would get dirty so fast because it’s hard to keep our dogs off of it. Unfortunately I’m afraid it’s too late to break them of the habit. Is the one you got easy to spot clean?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Katie! I actually talked about this in the post! They only get on the sofa when we are on it in the evening, so when we know we are going to be on it, we cover the main areas with the throws. We did buy a cleaning plan when we bought the sofa (it was only like $150!), and we can call to have it spot cleaned whenever we need to! xoxo
Keri says
The refresh looks fantastic. Such a warm relaxed look with such pretty colors. Where are the couch and rug from?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Keri! They are both from Weir’s! Actually, most of the furniture in our house is from Weir’s. 🙂 xoxo
SB says
Where is the sofa from? Are back cushions attached?
Love the room!!
Sheaffer says
The back cushions are not attached! The sofa is from Weir’s and currently available. It’s the Jonathan Louis Carlin Sectional in Natural. I took most of the pillows that came with it off and added our own. xoxo
SB says
Thanks for the help Sheaffer- I love that you answer not only my beauty and fashion questions, but are now helping me find a sofa- you are the best!!
Sheaffer says
This makes me happy!!!! Thank YOU! xoxo
Molly says
Love the entire room. Can you tell me where the dotted throw is from?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Molly! I grabbed it recently at Tuesday Morning. xoxo
Shari Hamilton says
Love your family room redo and all the items from Walmart! Can you tell me where you purchase the other pillows?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Shari! The neutral pillows came with the couch as did the solid grey one. Most of the others are from Pottery Barn, but a couple of them (with the trim) I had made like 20 years ago!!!!!! And I still love them. xoxo
Paula Morton says
Great job!!! Lovely!
Jackie Witt says
I love your room redo. It’s beautiful, light and airy. Plus, I love all of the different textures…so cozy! Quick question: What color is the stripe in the oblong pillow on the right corner of your sofa? Is it gray or more of a slate blue shade? Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Jackie! It’s definitely blue. I would say blue with gray undertones! 🙂 Hope this helps!
Jackie Witt says
Yes, very helpful! Thank you!
Alena Fleming says
Your home looks great! So cozy! Can you send a link for the basket tray on the coffee table? I am looking for something just like that!
Thanks,
Alena
Sheaffer says
Hi, Alena! So sorry, but I got it at an antique store in downtown McKinney! 🙁 xoxo
