Courage and a Nomination!

I’ve been thinking about something lately, and I wanted to see what you think about it.
I don’t know about you ladies, but I am starting to dress each day with more courage.
I realize it sounds silly to say that I am “dressing with courage”, but it is totally true.
I am really starting to branch away from the same old, same old……and I’m becoming more bold in my fashion choices!  It’s as if Pinterest has become my own personal stylist and has given me permission to step out of my comfort zone!
Before Pinterest, I would have never dreamed at wearing black and brown together, but not anymore!
Before Pinterest, I never would have put this tank that screams “SUMMER”, but not anymore!
The list goes on an on.
Pinterest has given me the courage to do things like this now!
If something looks good in a picture I’ve pinned, I think “WHY THE HECK NOT?”,
and I decide to give the outfit a whirl myself.
It’s truly like I feel that if it doesn’t work, I will just blame it on Pinterest.
Celebrities can blame their stylists for being put on a “worst dressed” list.
I will just blame my stupid computer if my outfit doesn’t work.
I am totally not above deflecting blame.

This isn’t one of my favorite outfits that I’ve put together, but I like it okay, and I of course like that it stretched my wardrobe!  (I got that tank on sale at Target this summer for like $5, so I love that I’m now wearing it still in October!) ‘And once again, I never would have put this outfit together on my own.

So….let’s do a little True/False quiz here:
1)  Pinterest has given me more courage to dress each morning.

2)  If I copy an outfit from Pinterest, I always look awesome.
FALSE.

I like being more bold in my dressing and all…..but sometimes it doesn’t work out….

I got news over the weekend that an old friend decided to recognize Pinterest Told Me To with a Liebster Award.

Sara Gae was a Kappa alumn when I was at OU, and I always looked up to her.  

She nominated me for this, and I am just so tickled!

Sara Gae was always so put together, had a gorgeous husband (still does!), at the time she had one sweet little girl (now she has 4 kids), and just the cutest house you can imagine.

I mean…just look at her GORGEOUS family.  

That’s her in the black and white striped shirt, just in case you were confusing her with one of the kids! 🙂

I’m so proud that she thought of me and my little blog when deciding who she wanted to honor!

This nomination involves me telling 11 things about myself, answering Sara Gae’s 11 questions, and then nominating another blogger.

So here it goes!

Eleven things about me:

1.  I started my blog about 6 weeks ago, and I am having a blast watching it grow!

2.  I have never thought of myself as fashion-forward, so it’s a little bit funny that I now write a style blog.

3.  Reading people’s comments that they leave on the blog or the Pinterest Told Me To facebook page has quickly become one of my favorite things to do!

5.  I love all things Pinterest (not just clothes) and don’t know what in the world we wore, cooked, or dreamed about crafting before it was a  part of our lives.

6.  I wash my hair every day, and I am so jealous of my friends who wash their hair every other day…or even every 3rd day….or even every 4th day as I found out last night at bible study!  🙂

1.  Why did you start blogging?  I started blogging a little over 4 years ago when I was pregnant with my son.  I basically use that blog as a scrapbook for everything we do as a family.  I started Pinterest Told Me To due to my friend Shay’s urging.  She has an awesome food blog, and she was having so much fun with it that she thought I should jump into the blogging world too!

2.  Where do you hope to see yourself professionally/personally or both in 10 years.  Professionally, I see myself continuing to do private speech therapy.  I would LOVE to still be blogging, and I would LOVE to have a large group of readers!  I’m having so much fun with this new venture, and I can only hope that it will continue to grow!  Personally, I wonder if Carter will be our only child, or if we will have another?!?

3.  What or who is your greatest inspiration in life?  My mom!  I am constantly thankful and amazed at how she prays without ceasing for others. I am so thankful for the thousands and thousands of prayers she has prayed on my behalf.  I Love You Mom!

4.  What is the best advice you ever received?  The best advice I have ever received.  Hmmmmm.  Well, it’s a bible verse that helps me.  Philippians 4:6 states “Do not be anxious about anything.  But in everything, through prayer and petition, present your requests to God.”  I’m a worrier by nature, so this verse helps me keep my worry into check and trust Him.

5.  If money were no object, where would you take a vacation without kids AND with kids?  Without a doubt, the hubby and I would go to Bora Bora (we cannot get over how amazing those individual little huts are on the water).  If traveling with the little man, I would still like to go to Bora Bora (he LOVES the beach), but I would just like to take a full-time nanny with us!

6.  If given a free afternoon that you HAD to spend alone, what would you do? I would go shopping at some of my favorite stores without the 4 year old, I would get a much needed mani/pedi, and I would take a nap (while Bravo t.v. was playing in the background of course).

7.  What is your favorite book?  This is soooo embarrassing, but I don’t read.  I mean, I can read, but I don’t.  Ha!  I have just never enjoyed it. 

8.  Cook or Order in?  2nd part: Favorite recipe or favorite thing to order in!  I wish the answer was “cook”, but it is totally “order in”.  I absolutely flip for the Pad See Ew at a local Thai joint in town.

9.  What are your hobbies?  I love blogging (both the Pinterest blog and my family blog); I love going to the family’s ranch house with both of my boys; and I love lunching, shopping, and going to the park with my friends and their kids.

10.  What is the best meal you ever had?  I love food, like really love food….so I have no idea why I can’t come up with the best meal I’ve ever had.  However, some of the meals I remember most were at my Mammaw’s kitchen table.  We would drive up to her house, she would wave to us from the kitchen sink, and when we walked in there would most often be chicken spaghetti and fresh tomatoes and onions waiting for us.  Delish!

11.   Do you think being a mom has changed you and if so how?  It has definitely changed me.  It has made me more patient (at times) and less patient (at times).  Right moms?  🙂 It has also made me a bigger worrier (and I didn’t even know that was possible)! I also find that I’m a lot more laid back about the house being in order.  Pre-Carter, I could never have imagined that my living room floor would be covered in toys….now it’s just the new normal.

I have so enjoyed reading Sarah’s blog and we seem to be becoming friends!  I mean, last week after one of her posts I realized that we own the same suede BCBG pumps that we both purchased from the same low-rent Ross at 75 and 380.  It’s as if we were separated at birth.

 She lives super close to me, so I’m guessing that we will be scheduling a lunch and shopping date at Watters Creek any day now!)
