OR…..
and perhaps more likely……
You be the judge.
You see, I’m doing a swimsuit post.
And I’m actually wearing said swimsuits.
On the blog.
#iknow
But before we get started…let’s just take a moment…
BECAUSE TODAY STARTS TRIPLE POINTS AT NORDSTROM!!!!!
When Nordstrom asked me to talk about women’s swimsuits, they only asked that I do a collage.
A collage? Sure! That would have been super easy and not anxiety producing at all.
HOWEVER.
I knew that it would be much more helpful to actually see a real person (instead of a model) in the swimsuits, so I decided to put my big girl panties bikini tankini bottoms on and show some of the swimsuits on me. A real life person. In her early 30s. WHAT?
#isaidearlyandi’mstickingtoit
So let’s insert a little disclaimer:
I don’t fancy myself a swimsuit model, and you shouldn’t fancy me one either.;)
Before we begin, here’s something you need to know about me.
I’m not a bikini girl.
I wish I was.
But I’m not.
Never have been really.
I don’t see ANYTHING wrong with wearing bikinis, I just don’t like them on me.
If you like rocking a bikini, then go on with your bad self!!!! 🙂
So, for me it’s tankinis or 1 pieces.
I do have a couple of one pieces I love, but I usually prefer a tankini because it often feels more youthful (although still totally age appropriate), and I prefer to have on a tankini when going to the bathroom at the pool. Because DUH.
Yanking down a wet swimsuit in a pool bathroom isn’t good naked.

Let’s Get Started!
This first one I’m showing is my personal favorite of the day!
Click HERE for the striped tankini top.
For size reference, I’m wearing a 6.
I actually already had these black bottoms, so I thought I would save some $ and try to just order a top to go with them. However, if you don’t already have a pair of black bottoms, you have a bikini bottom option HERE and a swim skirt option HERE.
And listen up girls, if you deal with National Geographic boobies if they aren’t properly supported (welcome to the club), then this suit is for you! They get lifted and separated and look perky!
#sorrydad
I don’t feel like my girls will pop out, the cups are fully lined, and I just love the bold stripes!
I mean.
I even shot this one from the back.
Brave or stupid?
#iprefertogowithbrave
The above suit is from La Blanca, and they have several other tankini tops and a cover-up that I thought were all so cute! Click on what you are interested in!
For the next suit, it’s a tankini, but the fly-away cut makes it a little bit sexy too.
#maybeyoushouldjustcomebacktomorrowdad
I sized up in this top and am wearing an 8. The 6 was way too small up top.
I’m wearing THESE light pink studs.
Other options from the same swim designer:
I also tried a couple of cover-ups…this one was my fav!
Click HERE for the white perforated swimsuit cover up.
I just received this one in the mail a couple of days ago, and I really like it! It’s very stretchy and comfy, and I think it would look great thrown over any swimsuit! For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small in the cover-up. I was wearing a 6 in the one piece.
Click HERE for the one piece I was wearing under it.
I really liked the suit too, but I accidentally erased the pictures I had of it.

Reef flip flops HERE. Coral studs HERE.

Next up I’m featuring a Tommy Bahama suit and cover-up that I gave you a sneak peek of last week.
And I’ve gotta say, Mr. Bahama knows what he’s doing when it comes to swimwear. 😉
anchors away tankini top HERE / hipster swim skirt HERE /
or high waist navy bikini bottoms HERE
The top does have a strap that you can attach, which I often find necessary when you have little ones you are taking care of at the pool! And I actually liked the skirt! It’s got some serious coverage, but I think the side ties made it cute and not grandmotherly. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 😉
For size reference:
I was wearing a small in the top, but I think an x-small would have been better. It was a little too roomy for my liking.
I was wearing an x-small in the skirt and it was good.
And I’m wearing my cobalt studs found HERE.
For size reference, I’m wearing an x-small.
Other options from Tommy Bahama:
And here are some bikini options for those of you brave enough to go there!
#yougo
Or maybe you need a LBSS (the swimsuit equivalent of a little black dress)! If you like that idea, I have some fantastic options for you!
So, that’s it for swimsuits today girls.
Hope it was helpful to you to see a real person in the suits.
And even if it wasn’t, just act like it was….m’kay? 🙂
Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
Oh wait!
Here are some fun pool/beach accessories:
And if you still haven’t ordered anything for your mama….never fear!
I’ve got some last minute options for you!

Erika Slaughter says
Girl!! You look smokin' in that stripe tankini!! So cute!!
MorganizewithMe says
You look fabulous in each of the suits/cover ups. What great picks this season. Thanks for sharing!!!
TamTam7 says
Thanks so much for bravely posting this (although I think you look great and would probably look amazing in a bikini). I'm not much of a bikini girl myself(unfortunately) so it was helpful to see different tankini options. My husband and I are going to Mexico for vacation so I've been shopping for bathing suits and it is so annoying and frustrating. Thanks again for this great post, it was really helpful.
Mix and Match Mama says
Um, those swimsuits are just FABULOUS! Seriously, I want every single one of them!!! Love this post and love that you showed us YOU wearing them! xoxo
Narci says
That first swimsuit is so cute on you!!! Also, that white perforated cover up is darling!!!

Sheaffer,
First – I have to give you MAJOR PROPS for doin' your thang and wearin' those suits! You are so right – they look totally different ON THE BODY than they do in pictures. I have to admit, though, I am super jealous of how great you look in them, too. No one wants to see my pasty white, cellulite-y skin in a suit. Yuck! But you look awesome. I especially love the first tankini with the black and white stripes, though all of your options today are great. Oh, and I have to say – that philosophy cleanser is seriously THE BEST. I blogged about it already, too. It is my holy grail of cleansers and I couldn't be without it.
Thanks for all of the great swim options! Have a great day!

The Boutelle Family says
Most definintely SO brave!! And those suits are all so cute!
Kylee R says
You look great in each of those suits – go you!! I especially like the fly-away top! I noticed that you posted a "Sun Bum" sunscreen, and I just happened to come across their shampoo and conditioner recently. However, I'm assuming that they're relatively new items because I can't find reviews anywhere. I was just wondering if you've happened to try them or other products from their line? Thanks! Have a great day:)
cookies and cups says
You are seriously so so adorable! I bought that Tommy Bahama cover up a few weeks back for a trip to Florida and I LOVE it. It super casual and easy, and I like the long sleeves as a different option!
Kirby says
I love the suits! You look great! I would need at least a two week round of Jergens to even think about trying suits on at this point. I may try out a tankini this year!
Kara says
I love all of these! Girl, you are lookin good!
Erin says
You are brave and adorable! I can't stop laughing about National Geographic boobies!
Rebecca says
As a grandmother of 3 grandsons, thank you for choosing the modest tankini suits.I have a mantra that says even though you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. That can apply to almost any situation in life! You look adorable and they are all great choices. I love your style but mostly I love your spunkiness. And you made me a Nordstrom shopper! Just ordered on the first day of TRIPLE points! Happy Mother's Day to you too! Have a great day!
April Parrish says
You look great in these swimsuits…my favorite is the striped!!!! Very flattering!!! Have a blessed day! 🙂
Beth says
I hope you bought the black & white stripe tankini top. It was made for you!
Leigh says
Okay first, you look amazing. I love that black and white striped tankini. Second, national geographic boobies made me laugh so hard I had tears. Everyone in my house needs a swimsuit. I seriously need to be diligent about applying self tanner because I'm so pasty I look like Elmer's glue spilled all over me.
Laura says
I'm 42 years old and I'm not a bikini girl either (in public I lay out by our pool with one on). However, my husband asked me to wear one recently on our Hawaiian Cruise and I was really anxious about it. But it made me feel so good that even though I thought I wouldn't look good in one, HE did! So, needless to say, I rocked that bikini in Hawaii!
I Like Ike says
You are adorable.
Kim Kauffman says
Sheaffer, you look amazing! My bikini days are long gone so I love these tankini options. Those coverups are adorable too!
Kelli Badder says
Sheaffer~You look fabulous in those suits! Thanks so much for showing us how they look on a real person instead of a stick figure, 🙂 The black and white one is already in my cart. Me and my National Geographic boobs that nursed a baby for 19 months appreciate your help in the support department.
Andrea Clark says
Brave???? Girl, please….if I looked like you in a swimsuit, I would be wearing one to the grocery store! You look amazing!!!!
Megan says
Love the black with white stripes!! So cute! I love a good tankini bathing suit! and thanks for sharing the mothers day ideas!! I need some good ones!
Fancy Ashley says
YOU LOOK FAB!!! Love all the suits!!! XO!
Unknown says
First, you are brave. And second, you had no reason to be nervous, you look great! Your hard work this spring has totally paid off! Love the first two on you. On me, not gonna like them so much cause I'm the boob less wonder! Sigh. I'm 45, think anyone would wonder what happened if I got a boob job? Could I just say late blooming and get away with it?
Elaine Welte says
That striped cover up is adorable! And you totally rocked this post! Hot mama!
{Hi Sugarplum!} says
How are you both adorable and hot?! These suits look great on you!!! I'm a bikini person, but probably shouldn't be…I've just never found a good tankini or one piece…but you've changed that for me!
Jordyn Brown says
Thanks for being brave and sharing-it's so helpful to see the pictures on a real person, especially since I'm typically more of a bikini girl! I think I'm going to have to order the first two options and see if either of them work for me!

You look awesome! I am hunting and I mean HUNTING for a swimsuit to wear on vacation this summer and I love these options. Since having my little guy two years ago, I'm wanting to hide and I mean HIDE my midsection so one piece and tankinis are my go to options right now. Thank you for showing us how these suits fit you which as I said before is awesome!
Elizabeth Birenbaum says
You look amazing!!! Thank you for showing us the swim suits on. So helpful!
Kim says
Brave? You are a size XS or size 4! Makes me think I should never even consider wearing a bathing suit in public…..remember all of your readers/supporters aren't tiny and petite. Love your blog and have been reading it for years!!! I feel like my wardrobe has really stepped up a notch since I stated taking your advice! Keep it up!
Sheaffer says
Hi Kim! I appreciate your comment and the fact that you stated in a sweet way. 🙂 I totally think I was brave! I know that not everybody is the same size….but putting pictures of myself in a swimsuit "out there" was definitely scary for me! Still…that being said….I think women of all shapes and sizes need to get over the scariness, put on a swimsuit, and go out and enjoy life with their families!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kerry Dorman says
Loved this post! I get tickled when I read your posts… Have you ever bought an albion fit swimsuit? That's what I'm really eyeing for summer.
Sheaffer says
Hey Everybody! Thank you so much for all of the sweet words of encouragement and support! Y'all blew me away with your kindness! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
juliegmartin2 says
Hi Sheaffer!! I was so happy to see you had the Seafolly Goddess bikini top shown. It is hands down THE BEST bikini top I've ever owned. Let's just say I am a bit of a "busty" gal but I'm also almost 40 years old & don't think it's appropriate or attractive to have it all hanging out! This top fully supports the girls & holds them in but is still super stylish. Worth every dime!! Go get you one stat!!
Carrie says
That nautical suit is super cute on you and you have a great figure for swimsuits! I am going to buy that cover up, I NEED that for our upcoming Disney trip!
Maria Barber says
Hey! All of your looks are simply awesome. And you have got a good figure for a bikini. Why don’t you just try out? You’ll look good in all of them. I guarantee! (*wink*)
