Colleen Rothschild: Christmas in July

If you’ve been following me for a while now, you know there are a handful of brands that I’m super loyal to. There are just certain brands that are constants in my life that I feel deserve my complete devotion. And because of my deep and abiding love, I want y’all to love the brands too!

I was introduced to Colleen Rothschild by my friend Carly (at C Style) around 9 years ago. I started with 1 product (the Radiant Cleansing Balm), and over the years I’ve added product after product for both my skin and now my hair. Plain and simple, Colleen Rothschild products do what they say they are going to do. And it’s not just me that loves the products, my mom and sister are now loyal users as well! And I know many of you are too!

Fair warning: I use and love A TON of Colleen’s products, so this post is going to be long.

These first two products are the two products I can’t live without. I use them consistently throughout the entire year.

Cleansing Balm / Glycolic Acid Peel Pads

Out of all of the products in the Colleen Rothschild line, the Cleansing Balm is my favorite product by far. It totally changes the taking off your makeup game, and I’m telling you, you won’t even dread washing your face at night. I KNOW. That’s a big claim, but I stand behind it.

This balm truly has a cult following. For those of you that haven’t tried it yet, it’s different than any other cleanser I’ve ever used. First of all, I apply it to a dry face. I scoop out a small amount of the balm with dry hands and slather it on to my dry face. As I rub it on my face, the heat from my hands changes the balm into more of an oily texture and it just feels incredibly luxurious. It melts my makeup away, leaves my skin feeling amazing and hydrated, and the light citrus smell is PERFECT.

After cleansing my face, I use the peel pads. I’ve been using the Glycolic Acid Peel Pads for several years now, and I absolutely swear by them. After adding them to my weekly routine years ago, I’ve never looked back.

The Face Oil #9 used to be too much for my skin, but now I can’t imagine it not being a part of my nightly routine. Colleen touts it as the ultimate in skin luxury, and I have to agree. It improves radiance. RADIANCE! Who doesn’t want to increase their radiance?!?

I put 1 full pump in my hand with the Extreme Recovery Cream (also seen below) and apply it all over my face and neck. It hydrates and plumps like nothing else I’ve ever used. The Extreme Recovery Cream is thick, rich, and ultra-creamy. My skin absolutely drinks this special little cocktail up.

And I’m not the only one that swears by it in my family. My mom and sister do as well. Actually, they are both devoted users of many products in the line. My mom did a full review of her favorite products awhile back, and you can click HERE to read all of her thoughts. She’s added in new products since then, but it’s a comprehensive review of her routine at the time. My mom is in her mid 70s and looks AMAZING, so copying her skincare routine wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

The Intense Hydrating Mask is an easy answer for skin that needs extra hydration. You apply it at night and let it sink in while you sleep. It gives a boost of highly concentrated hydration to tight, dry, rough or dehydrated skin. This treatment helps strengthen elasticity, leaving skin with a youthful suppleness and radiance. Again, just read the reviews if you want to know more. The reviews are fantastic.

Intense Hydrating Mask / Micro Mineral Resurfacing Scrub

The Micro Mineral Resurfacing Scrub is my very favorite mask to use. Whenever my skin is feeling dull or lackluster, I use this scrub to wake up my face and really brighten it right on up. After using it, my skin is SO SOFT and it truly does look healthier and more glowy. It refines texture, helps reduce clogged pores and brightens dull complexions by buffing away dead skin cells using the power of ultra-fine crystals. 

I don’t like to spend a lot of time or money on expensive spa treatments, but this scrub is like an at home alternative to professional microdermobrasian treatment.

Do you see the rose quartz pieces below? When I rub the scrub on my face, it feels like very very fine sand. It gently (but efficiently!) exfoliates and reveals newer and fresher skin.

IT’S AN INCREDIBLE PRODUCT.

It’s not just my face that sometimes needs extra moisturizing, the skin on my body also needs extra attention at times. This Honey Vanilla Creamy Body Wash is so luxurious and is such a treat for my dry (and sometimes so dry it’s itchy!) skin. I’ve never been one that slathers on a lot of body lotion (I don’t love the way it feels), but I really love a super moisturizing creamy oil body wash. This body wash is incredibly hydrating and smells DIVINE. Really, it is such a treat.

These products have all improved my skin. They are a perfect way to implement some self-care, and the results you see are going to knock your socks off.

MY NEW FAVORITE PRODUCT

My favorite eye cream is BACK IN STOCK! And it’s ON SALE! Y’all, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS DEAL!

It’s the Colleen Rothschild Illuminating Tinted Eye Cream.

This was my personal #1 find when I first used it back in March, and it’s actually in my Top 3 finds for the entire year! It was in y’alls Top 5 for 2 months in a row as well. It’s an incredible product.

It makes my under-eye area appear brighter, more radiant, and more youthful. TRULY! The formula specifically targets common concerns of tiered and dull eyes, such as under-eye darkness, fine lines, dryness, and puffiness.

Here’s what’s in it and what it does:

• Hyaluronic acid: helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
• Caffeine: targets puffiness and water retention.
• Pearlized pigments provide an instant brightening effect and create a radiant, glowing appearance.
• Peach coloring pigments neutralize blue undertones, helping to balance out skin tone and create a more even appearance.

It’s really hard to capture how awesome the eye cream is in a picture, so you’re going to need to trust me. You can use it on its own on a fresh-faced day, but it also functions beautifully under makeup. I’m telling you, this eye cream is going to WOW you.

And just FYI: I don’t like concealer and never use it, but I think this eye cream not only does the job of an eye cream, but it also functions a bit like a concealer does… but it doesn’t settle into lines or crepiness (which is why I don’t like or wear concealer).

I obviously highly recommend this product. Like I said before, IT WILL WOW YOU.

MY HAIR CARE FAVORITES

COLLEEN’S HAIR PRODUCTS ARE ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL.

THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR HAIR.

When Colleen came out with her hair products, I knew I had to give them a try. I started using them, and I immediately noticed a difference. My hair was just better. Now I can’t live without them.

I’ve never really battled super dry or brittle hair; however, after having Carter my hair did change a bit and was not nearly as shiny or healthy as I felt it had been pre-pregnancy. It was then that I ditched the drugstore shampoo and conditioner that I’d been using my entire life (with no problems at all), and I started investing in better products for my hair. The beauty store products I started using back then definitely helped, and I was happy with my hair. I definitely thought they were worth the higher price because hair is important to me, y’all. Haha!

I love all the hair products except one. I just don’t love the shampoo.

I know people that do love the shampoo, but I personally prefer a shampoo I’ve been using for years now over the CR shampoo

Smooth and Shine Hair Serum / Quench and Shine Restorative Mask / Replenish and Shine Daily Conditioner

The Daily Conditioner is their newest hair care product and it’s fantastic.

I. LOVE. THIS. CONDITIONER.

It doesn’t weigh my hair down, but it still manages to be incredibly moisturizing. All of the products in the bundle work together to give you incredible hair, but even if you didn’t use any of the other products and only used this conditioner, you would still notice that the conditioner alone makes your hair shiny and soft. I’ve only been using this for a couple of months, but I’m already loyal to it.

And I know this shouldn’t really matter, but I happen to love the pale pink packaging. The products look pretty in your shower or on your bathroom counter, and I appreciate that!

Next up, the hair mask!

The QUENCH & SHINE RESTORATIVE MASK is a color-safe conditioning treatment to soften, detangle and revive all hair types without weighing your hair down. So before they came out with the conditioner, I would use small amounts of this mask as my daily conditioner. In fact, I loved how my hair felt so much after using it that I was pretty sure I wouldn’t love the conditioner as much, and I would just continue to use this mask as my conditioner.

HOWEVER, I fell in love with conditioner too, and now I use the mask more as an intensive hair treatment. My goal is to use it once a week, but the truth is, I just use it when I have some extra time to spend in the shower. Instead of using just a tiny bit like I used to, I now use a good amount, massage it all over my head, and I like to leave it in for a bit to get the full benefit. I like to leave it in for a minimum of 5 minutes, but a couple of times I’ve even been known to get out of the shower and vacuum the house or something with it in before rinsing it out.

My mom loves the mask too. She absolutely SWEARS by this product and the serum that we’re going to talk about in just a minute.

Here’s my mom’s story with the hair products….

A couple of years ago she started noticing that her hair was “getting old” – her words, not mine. 😉

My mom has always had great hair, but she said it had all of a sudden started to become dry and brittle.

WELL. She swears that the mask and the serum completely revitalized her hair.

I called her yesterday to hopefully get a couple of quick quotes from her for today’s post and she went ON AND ON! Haha! I actually asked her “So you really think these products changed your hair too?” And she was all “I KNOW they changed my hair.” 🙂

She told me how before using the products she had noticed a while ago that “a chunk of hair on the left side of her head” had become “extra dull and dry”. She also said that she when she first got the mask that she was using it every single time she washed her hair, but now she doesn’t have to use it nearly as often because her hair is in so much better shape now! She truly feels it has REPAIRED her hair. It doesn’t just LOOK better, but it IS better. It’s healthier!

Listen, we all know that skincare is so important, but it’s no secret that it’s also incredibly overwhelming to most!  I’m just so happy that Colleen is going to help us work through all of our questions today. And I mean, seriously.  Who better to ask about skincare?!

Question:  How did you get your start in skin care? What’s your background? @shannon_leyerly

Answer: I started behind the scenes in manufacturing over 25 years ago… I’ve worked on formulations for many beauty brands all over the world. A few years ago, my husband Stan and I set out to create my signature line. I brought all of my experience together to create a high-performance, results driven line that offers the ultimate sensory-rich experience. My goal is to make my customers feel good and enjoy their experience with us.

Question:  I get confused with all the products and the order of using them! Can you help with that? @moriacox 

Answer:  The easiest rule to remember is to layer your formulas from thin to thick. Your outermost layers will always be a face oil, or your most emollient formula – and SPF always goes on last in the morning to protect your skin! Another great rule of thumb, is: Cleanse, Treat, Moisturize. Sometimes all you need is a simple, pared down routine to get your best skin.

Question:   I use the cleansing balm, the acid radiance serum, and the vitamin c complex. I recently retired from teaching so money is now together and I need to rethink what I spend on skin care. But I am 66 so I’m looking at wrinkles, sun spots, etc. ha! I would love to hear what to use that is the most important and how to use it (what order do I apply the products, when do I use which product…etc). I don’t want to waste the product I do have putting it on incorrectly. Thanks for introducing us to her skincare. I really do love it. -Jo

Answer:  See answer above for a simple morning and evening routine regimen, but if you are looking to target certain “issues”, more specific products could be recommended.  If you don’t know where to start and are interested in sampling some products, try out the 7-Piece Discovery Collection. Question:  Is it necessary to wipe all products down the neck and chest, or just certain ones? @wyobyday

Answer:  The neck is easily one of the first places we start to show aging, along with our eyes and hands. You should always move any excess product down your neck and to the back of your hands to keep them looking the same “age” as the skin on your face. If you are running low on product, prioritize a treatment, like an exfoliator or a serum, and an ultra-rich moisturizer.

Question:  Can you use acids and retinol at the same time? @mcleodlife

Answer: While you can use them in conjunction to achieve your skincare goals, it is not recommend to use them consecutively in one evening. You should avoid using acids and retinol products together so that you do not over-sensitize or over-exfoliate the skin, which can cause irritation, breakouts, redness and affect the skin’s pH.

Question:  I’m 8 weeks pregnant. What products can I use and what products should I steer clear of? @jenn_nee505 

Answer:  While you are pregnant or nursing, it is ALWAYS best to check in with your doctor on any current or new beauty products you are using. As a general rule of thumb, it is best to stay away from products that contain retinol, or other forms of retinol, as well as most AHAs and BHAs as a precaution.

Question:  How clean are your products? @carmenjoyk

Answer: I think it’s important to note that no two companies or brands have the same definition of “clean” in the beauty world, but I can assure you that our products are always formulated without: Parabens, SLS/SLES Sulfates, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, PABA, Toluene, Benzene. My product philosophy is to provide the ultimate sensory-rich experience that combines the best botanical ingredients that nature has to offer with the latest innovations in modern science and technology.

Question:  What is the best treatment for tech neck? @mommadingo

Question:  I am on retin-a from my dermatologist, how do I work that into my CR skin routine? @alwisepa

Answer:  Check in with your dermatologist first, but when using a retin-a product, you will want to limit sun exposure, always apply SPF and find a moisturizer that works best for you. Avoid the overuse of exfoliating products, which may further irritate the skin. The new CBD Face Oil is a great nourishing oil that can calm sensitive skin that is prone to acne and redness.

Question:  Older skin, but oily, not dry!!!! Lots of acne.  Help! @mrsbethlkaiser

Answer:  Add in a face oil. Customers with oily skin will gasp at the thought of adding oil, but then come back to write a review or share a testimonial on how wonderfully nourished, glowing and CLEAR their skin is looking. Try it – you won’t regret it! Our Face Oil No. 9 is a great option.

Question:  What is the best way to prep your skin to apply serums and creams? Also eye area? @stephensintx

Answer:  Keep skin balanced. Two of my favorites products to use in the morning are the Balancing Gel Cleanser, which balances the skin’s pH and leaves the skin feeling so soft, and the Matcha Tea Treatment Toner, which reduces redness, prohibits bacteria and calms the skin.

Question:  Based on Sheaffer’s reviews, I have tried a variety of CR products. I’m not sure that I have found the right combination for me though. I am 52 years old, so fine lines, wrinkles and dull skin are an awareness for me. The challenge comes in that I am also prone to regular breakouts, mainly whiteheads on my chin and the side of my nose. Please help! -Michelle

Answer:  I recommend trying out the Glycolic Peel Pads with Blue Agave. Starting to get fine lines in my 30’s! What can I use?? @caseycoffeeburns

Answer: Keep it simple, but don’t forget to exfoliate (I recommend the dual enzyme polish or the micro mineral resurfacing scrub) and moisturize. As we age, our skin cells renew at a slower rate, causing the skin to look dull and dehydrated which enhances the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Speed up skin cell renewal by using products with retinol, AHAs or BHAs, and select a moisturizer that will plump up fine lines and lock in moisture. 

And it’s never too early to start using anti-aging products. Two of my favorite products to address fine lines are the Age Renewal Super Serum and the Retinol Supreme Night Oil. Use the Age Renewal Super Serum in the morning – it is chock full of peptides, collagen boosters, hyaluronic acid and other key nutrients that will keep your skin looking plump and nourished all day long.
