Just last week I did a Style It Again, Sheaffer post where I took a pair of wine colored skinny jeans, and I styled them several different ways for you. Well, you’re getting another Style It Again post today! I’m working with Jen7 and Nordstrom again, but today I’m getting ALL SORTS OF FANCY. We are talking about coated denim. Cue the oooooooohs and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhs. 😉
What’s “coated” denim, you ask? Great question! It’s regular denim that’s been coated in a pigmented substance that almost makes it feel like wax. Sounds totally weird, but it’s a really great finish. Coated denim is edgy and modern, but still totally wearable for us regular folks. The “trend” has been around for several years now (so because of that, I wouldn’t really call it a “trend” anymore), but they’ve changed a bit totally for the better over the years. I love this particular pair because they have stretch in them, and the coated denim I’d tried in the past were definitely lacking in the stretch and comfort department. And here’s the thing, I don’t wear denim if they don’t have some stretch. Life’s too short. 😉
So these have a little bit of a sheen (while somehow still remaining matte), and they just feel fancier than a regular pair of black jeans. Coated denim provides a great way to add some punch and sass to your wardrobe! Maybe you’re not cool enough for real leather pants (not many are, I know I’m not)…but we can totally pull off coated denim.
Now, I wouldn’t wear these babies to the grocery store, but this type of denim is great for a night out on the town! So, in today’s Style It Again post I’m going to show you several outfits that would be great for a Girl’s Night Out, a date night, or a holiday or New Year’s Eve party! As I mentioned on Wednesday’s READER QUESTIONS post, I’ve been receiving lots of requests for holiday party inspiration, so I hope this post helps a lot of you out!
Before we get started with the outfits, I’ve gotta say, I had SO MUCH FUN putting these together. Probably because I feel kinda rock and roll when I wear these babies. 🙂
OUTFIT #1: Cashmere and Waxed Denim
This outfit combines luxury with cool; two things that I’m not typically concerned with, but this outfit totally felt luxe and I loved it! I scooped up this cashmere sweater in red to give it a try, mainly because I thought some of you might be able to copy this look for a holiday party sometime before Christmas.
The sweater comes in 14 colors, and if wanting to have this outfit for just a night out on the town (and not a holiday outfit), several of the other sweater colors would look great! My favorites are the pink smoke and the camel (which would also look great with the leopard belt)! It also comes in teal, bright pink, wine, and royal blue, among other colors.
The sweater is NOW ON SALE and has 145 5 Star Reviews! It’s very soft, not itchy AT ALL, and the v neck is well proportioned (not too low like so many v necks out right now). It’s a light weight fabric (so it can easily manage a 1/2 tuck like I’ve done below), but it’s still warm. It’s body skimming, but not fitted, which is just what I like.
Imagine the below look with the camel colored sweater. It would look SOOOOO expensive and classic!

Let’s talk about sizing on the jeans for a minute. First of all, I love the rise of these jeans. They hit right below my belly button, so I feel very well covered and totally sucked in! Jen7 sent me a 4 in the these jeans (they looked sooooo small when I took them out of the box), but the stretch made them much more doable than I thought they were going to be. Still, I ended up purchasing my own pair and sizing up to a 6. My tummy is definitely my problem area, and even thought the 4s fit, they weren’t comfortable for extended wear. When I sized up to a 6, the waist gave me the room I needed, but I did feel like the legs had a bit more give than I wanted them to have. Basically, I needed a 6 to be comfortable in the tummy area, but I still needed a 4 for the legs. Even though they weren’t true to size for me, I bet they are true to size for most of y’all! And again, they do have stretch in them, so there is a bit of wiggle room.

OUTFIT #2: Waxed Denim and Lace
Something about lace always screams PARTY! to me, so I knew I wanted to order something with lace to try with these pants. I thought this top was perfect with the lace peeking out at both the neckline and the hem. I also like that this is an option that totally covers the booty, if that’s something that you prefer to have covered. 😉 Also, if you are somebody that doesn’t like to wear a lot of jewelry, the lace accents on this are the only accessory you need! For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
I think this top would also look great worn more casually with regular jeans and black boots!

OUTFIT #3: MUST HAVE TUNIC AND WAXED DENIM
My goodness! The outfits that work with the must have tunic are ENDLESS! This is the “quail” color, which is the newest addition to my must have tunic collection. The flowiness (act like it’s a word) goes great with the edginess of the denim. It really softens the look up. For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the top. It’s quite long, so I’m showing it here with a 1/2 tuck.
AND Y’ALL. THE EARRINGS. Sadly, I’m not keeping them because they don’t show up in my black hair….but if you have any other hair color other than black, I highly recommend them! My blonde neighbor (shout out, Heather!) borrowed them for her hubby’s company Christmas party last weekend, and she said she got tons of compliments on them. (By the way, she wore them with our favorite shift dress, that now comes in a ton of new colors including a gorgeous red!)

OUTFIT #4: ALL BLACK WITH LEOPARD AND GOLD
I thought I was done with the looks for today, and then I realized I needed to try an all black outfit! I went to my closet and grabbed the fleece twist tie top that you’ve all seen at least 5 times before. I typically wear it casually with boots, or even UGGs or sneakers….but I fancied it up today and I think it looked great!
I dressed it up with gold jewelry and my favorite leopard clutch (only $45!), and I felt party ready!

I ordered these next two tops as well, but they didn’t arrive until yesterday, so you are getting the flat lay versions of these outfits. Both are great and have a real party vibe to them (more so than the tops I highlighted above).
OUTFIT #5: SILVER and WAXED DENIM
This next top is is silver and sparkly! It would be perfect for New Year’s Eve!

That Halogen cashmere sweater has been around for awhile, and I love it. Every time it’s on sale, I find myself grabbing another one. My first one was the camel, and you’re right, it looks very expensive. Then I got the black. And today I’m going to grab the pretty blush color. They are so soft and so flattering!

Me too Stephanie! I have 3 of the Halogen sweaters. They are awesome.
