Okay. So I know we’ve all been seeing booties for a couple of years now.
Well…
First I got an e-mail from Nordstrom about a month ago, and this is what it said…
This season’s versatile bootie works year round – pair ankle boots with dresses for a country vibe or mix them with skinny jeans for the right amount of edge.
And that made sense to me.
And then I saw this picture floating all over Pinterest.
And it confirmed for me that unless you are wearing a true skinny jean,
tall boots are not always a good option. I mean, nobody likes a bunchy knee.

So, after 2 years of saying “No Thank You” to booties, I all of a sudden said “HECK YEAH!”
Well played fashion industry, well played.
I applaud you for your tenacity.
It took 2 years for me to be convinced, and it took about 2.5 seconds after I was finally convinced for me to hop online and order THESE.
I LOVED them and couldn’t wait to start wearing them.
All was well in Bootie Land.
However, this is where my bootie story takes a sad turn.
It seems as if I’m between sizes in these particular booties.
DANGIT!
So, with a heavy heart (kidding, kind of), I returned them.
And when I did, a bright light shown down on THESE.
I tried them on.
And OH MY WORD AT THE COMFY AND CUTE.
It’s a totally different look than I was initially going for, but it was love at first try on.
I’m going to be wearing THESE CONSTANTLY the very second it dips below 90 degrees.
In fact, I laughed in the face of the 90 degree temps and already wore them once when I recreated Kendi’s outfit last week (click HERE if interested in the jeans or shirt).
If you bought the MUST HAVE Vigoss cuffed jeans HERE (either the distressed or the clean version), they look great with these.
If you need more proof that these TOMS are super cute and versatile,
here are some images I found on Pinterest.
Click HERE for the cognac version on the left and HERE for the taupe version on the right.
(You can also find TOMS camo wedges HERE and cheetah wedges HERE.)
***Some readers messaged me that on the TOMS site you can enter the code TOMSFALL5 for $5 off. AND there’s free shipping right now too! Click HERE to get to TOMS. If you don’t want booties, maybe there’s something else you’ve been thinking about from TOMS?!?***
If you’re not a TOMS fan, don’t worry! There are other lace up wedge options out there for you!
Click HERE for the Clarks with great reviews.
Or you can find some great Jessica Simpson booties HERE.
Both look soooooooooooooooo cute!
So, anyway. To make a 2 year long story short, I jumped on the Bootie Train!
Are YOU convinced yet?
No?
Okay then, let me continue….
Fun fact…see the girl in the picture on the right with Reese?
That’s Shannon, and she was a Kappa with me at OU!
Shannon got married, moved to California with her producer hubby, and became BFF with Reese (their boys are the same age). SO FUN!
Of course what I really want you to notice in these pictures is Reese’s love of the bootie.
If you like Reese’s booties above, I found some similar (and affordable) ones for you.
Jaxen HERE (very similar to the super expensive Rag and Bone version) and Vivienne HERE
Grayson HERE and Panelope HERE
I love ALL 4 of the below options and would be happy to own any of them.
Still not feeling it?
That’s okay. I get it. It took me awhile to come around too.
I’ve put together around 827 Pinterest collages to help sway you.
Let’s start out slow and easy.
What about a taupe colored bootie with a low heel?
For those of you that still aren’t sure about a bootie at all,
these would be a great way to ease into the trend.
Chinese Laundry idea bootie HERE for under $100 (on top, these are a great look!)
Jeno bootie HERE (on bottom, almost sold out)
I just found another option from Steve Madden HERE that are similar to the Jeno bootie
above for under $100.
And check out this pair from Zappos HERE for under $50!!!
WOW! Love these! What a deal!
I know lots of you got the camo pants a couple of weeks ago,
look how cute they are styled with booties!
taupe booties similar HERE / brown booties similar HERE / black studded boots, similar HERE
Want to go for a country vibe? I really like how the country-ish boots in the collage below actually seem to add a whole lot of edge to an outfit.
1) Colten HERE
2) Hinge Addison HERE
The boots are small in the collage, but you really need to check them out!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE both of these!
Maybe you want a dressier pair?
I’ve got 4 great options for you!
1) HERE 2) HERE 3) HERE 4) HERE
Or maybe you want to go with a classic leather look?
In COGNAC?
Good for you!
(Love how the girl is styled in this picture! Way to rock the black and brown together lady!)
1) HERE 2) HERE 3) HERE
There are also these cognac booties I highlighted on Monday.
1) Steve Madden Ryddlle bootie HERE, 2) DV cognac bootie HERE
3) Vince Camuto Holden HERE, 4) Steve Madden ankle boot HERE
Or maybe you want to take a walk on the wild side and get some leopard booties!
1) black with leopard accents HERE ,
2) heeled option HERE
3) Sam Edelman Shay booties HERE
(Shay, I’m thinking the peeps over on Sam Edelman’s team must know you!)
4) a wedge option HERE (these are new and a PERFECT option if you just want a hint of leopard!),
Here I am in #2 above. Now that’s what I call a cute bootie!
Why don’t you ladies jump on the Bootie Train with me?!?
he, he, he
Yes. I realize how that sounds.
That’s why I giggled.
The Bootie Train is leaving the station. Don’t be left behind.
ALL ABOARD!
Now, before I go, I have 2 Public Service Announcement for you today.
The first one is of course this:
GET YOURSELF A PAIR OF BOOTIES. Like yesterday already.
The second one is this:
When you type in “jeans and booties” into Pinterest, beware of the images that might pop up.
For example, this is what I saw:
To be fair, the picture does in fact include jeans and a bootie.
😉
Thanks for checking out my Bootie Train post!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂

Hi there! Your link wouldn't work for me (my computer is giving me fits lately!), but I tried to find them on my own based upon the name in the link. Is this the right boot? http://rstyle.me/n/bvbqnpvje
First of all, I think you probably can't go wrong with a Frye boot. I like the color and the heel height, and if it's a country-ish look you're going for, I think these hit the mark. The lace up the back is fun!
Hope this helps!

Just got my toms booties in taupe and trying to figure out what a good 2nd pair would be…. Decisions! I have a black pair from last season that will get a lot of wear this year…. But what else? Cognac or western maybe? Love the guide!
Sheaffer says
Hi there! I think I would go with cognac…..although I do love the western options! I know it's so hard to decide!

You just pushed me off the fence to get a pair of booties!! Now I just have to figured out which pair to purchase! 🙂

Buy the Toms, you won't regret it.
Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
I was just thinking last night this might be the first fall/winter that I wear booties more than my beloved riding boots. They just look so "of the moment" with ankle pants and leggings and cuffed jeans. I bought two pairs over the weekend – one in suede and one in cognac (of course). Can't wait to start wearing them!
By the way, thanks for your super sweet comment. You know how to make a girl's day. SO blessed to know you!
Danielle says
Thank you for this! I love the booties but have yet to find one that I love and works for me! Totally using this and going bootie shopping 🙂

This is JUST what I needed! My friend and I were just talking last night about how to style our newly purchased booties. I am SOLD!!! I can't wait to go home and put some outfits together 🙂 Thanks for the bootie inspiration!!

I really love your blog, and now I find out you are a Kappa, too!?! I will probably have to make a trip to Nordstrom today to check out some booties.
Sheaffer says
Go Kappa! 🙂

I'm trying so hard and I thought this post would convince me. Nope. Just not a fan.
The thinnest part of my legs are my ankles and they need to show! Having a shoe cut off right above the ankle is a pure recipe for disaster for girls with athletic calves.
There, I said it. I'll admire this trend from afar and have a tinge of jealousy for girls with thin legs and will plop my riding and cowboy boots right on.
Great, thorough post, though!
Mandi.Royal says
I, like you, was very skeptical about the jumping on the "bootie train"… I bit the bullet and bought the taupe TOMS booties and I am in LOVE! I've been wearing them around my house because I live in North Carolina and it's still a sweltering 90 degrees. When you wear your TOMS booties, do you wear the normal little footie socks like with regular TOMS?? Thanks so much for having an AWESOME blog!!
Anonymous says
Well, Sheaffer and Reese convinced me! I have a pair of black booties, but I am now ordering the taupe Jaxen booties. They will look so great with my camo skinnies (from Kohl's) and must have shirt! Thanks Sheaffer for keeping me on top of the trends!
from your stalker Julie who met you at Loft last year 🙂

Hi Julie! LOVED the jaxen booties! Good decision!

Well, I told you I needed convincing! Job well done. I think I want me some booties now!!!! I really loved the cognac booties pic with skinny jeans!!! I am gonna have to find some of those Tom booties and try them on!!! Thanks for all the bootie info!
Have a blessed day!!!

When I first started seeing booties I HATED them. But now I'm starting to think I need a pair, especially after all these amazing options! The problem with my tall boots is exactly what you showed – the dreaded bunchy knee! Can't stand that! I did actually find a pair of true dark wash skinny jeans a few weeks ago at Old Navy of all places (the rockstar super skinny for only $25) so those will be good. But hello, I live in Oregon where it rains all the time so flats are only an option for the beginning of fall – boots are a must. After Shay's post yesterday I also want a pair of Hunters! Good thing Christmas is coming up 😉 Hope you have a great day!
Sheaffer says
Hi Kim!
Yes to the booties and Yes to the wellies!!!! 🙂

I love your blog, but I just can't do it. I live in Scotland and have to walk way too much. I'll stick to wellies and sperrys. Maybe I'll get up the courage when we move back to Texas this summer, but I doubt it. 🙂 Then I will living in flip flops to make up for lost time in cold Scotland!

My hesitation with the Bootie: ankles. When you are seated, legs crossed, people will see ankle and what will they see? Bare skin? Trouser socks? What are you supposed to wear under the bootie? (def a first world problem). – Pam
Sheaffer says
I will wear 1/2 socks with them so you will see skin. However, I know other bloggers who have styled them with cute socks and I like that look too! (And totally laughed at your "first world problem" line. Hilarious!)

Ooohhh, thanks Scheaffer…that was not only informative, it was bootylicious!!
I'll be hoofing it (no pun intended) to Nordy's to check out the Tom's and all the other booties they might have in stock in the store!

My husband just bought the Toms booties for my birthday! I am in love. I now have to go through my closet and make sure I have things to wear with them. I am thinking I might need to do some shopping at Nordstrom's to pick up a few new things and earn those points. Thanks for this post! I look forward to you styling those booties to help me out this fall/winter.

If this doesn't convince women across America to get on the bootie train, I don't know what will! 🙂 They are my faves out of any shoe in my closet!
Jen Pogue says
The google image that you got for "denim and bootie" is hilarious! Bahaha! Ok, ok, you have me rethinking my return of the Tom's bootie wedge once again. Here's my struggle: when I'm home with my kids or blogging, I always wear a flat. When I go out with girlfriends or my husband, I always wear a tall wedge or heel. So, I don't know where the lower Tom's wedge would fit into this, although I do LOVE it! Any suggestions? {I'll check back since I know G+ doesn't notify me of follow-up replies}
And, can I saw that I think it's super cool that one of your sorority sisters is BFF's with Reese!? She is my hands down favorite actress since I saw her in The Man in the Moon back in the day.
Sheaffer says
Hi Jen! Hmmmm…..I think they are SO cute with a cuffed jean or skinny jean that I would totally wear them out on a girl's night or a date night. Do you really just like to have more height? They are more casual than a regular bootie, but that's one of the reasons I'm a fan. I have no idea if I answered your question or not?!? 🙂
And yes…I love me some Reese.
xoxo,
Sheaffer:)
Jen Pogue says
That really does help, Sheaffer! I think it's a matter of me realizing that I can substitute them for a taller heel. Yes, I do like to have a little more height for a date-night especially. Maybe they could be my go-to girl night shoe for the fall? I was checking them out {again!!} at Pumps on the square earlier!

I think they would go with any cuffed or skinny jeans!

Ummm….I'm going to ask an embarrassing and probably stupid question: are you supposed to wear socks with these and if so, what kind? It's why I like tall boots – I can hide my socks easily. 🙂 I'm at the "so cute on others, but look ridiculous on me" stage.
Sheaffer says
Hi Kerry!
Not a stupid question at all! I plan on wearing 1/2 socks with mine so they won't show at all. However, I have seen other bloggers style them with patterned socks (leopard, plaid, argyle)too! Hope this helps!

I've been wearing booties to work (but under my pants) for years! But now I want to branch out and wear some that will actually show! I just have a hard time finding some because I'm already 5'8" so I don't want the extra heights, but then the lowered heeled or flat booties just don't have the same fashionable look. I'm on the lookout for the perfect pair, though!

Ok, I was seriously against the bootie until I read this post. Is it weird that the collage of Reese is what started to convince me? (i'm sort of ashamed of how influenced I am by celebs 🙂 I like the idea of wearing them with dresses.

I NEED your HELP! I am on a mission to find a great pair of jeans. I am an apple shape & am convinced that they do not make jeans to fit me. I feel like I've tried them all. If they fit my waist then they are baggy in the hips & thighs. If they fit my hips & thighs then I am MISERABLE all day because I feel like my jeans are eating my stomach! I've from a small town so there are not a lot of clothing store choices. I will be in Dallas at the beginning of November for a marriage conference. We are coming a day early so I'm hoping I can squeeze in some shopping! Where is the best place to shop? What are the best brands to try? I'm willing to pay for a great pair of jeans. I'm okay with skinnies but really am looking for a pair of boot cut that I can dress down if I want to. Thanks in advance!

I am the same. I love Gap 1969 always skinny jeans, Ann taylor Loft Modern fit. At the gap they have straight fit and boot cut also. A lot of times I read the reviews online and when people say they are too big in the waist…I know they are the right fit for me!
