Well, it’s July 29th, and it boggles my mind that school is right out the corner. I mean, I think we can all agree that this has been the longest summer on record, but getting ready to go back to school still managed to sneak up on me. And to be honest, I’m still not ready for the school year to start. We are REALLY GOOD at summer over here, and I’m always sad to see it go, even this year.
Luckily I ordered school supplies through the district at the end of last year, so I haven’t had to worry about grabbing any of that. Thank you, Lord! However, Carter’s clothes and shoes were another story. We hadn’t bought him new clothes in forever, so almost everything was looking pretty worn (and pretty small)!
He was pumped that he needed some fresh new duds. I mean, he’s heading to middle school after all!
I thought a little back to school shopping would help Carter get ready and excited for the new school year, even though the school year is going to start off a bit differently.
I was right! And luckily, Academy was a one stop shop for all of his back to school needs!
Boy mamas, do your boys have outfit opinions? Mine sure does! I mean, his opinion almost solely revolves around extreme comfort, but his opinions on comfort are strong. Haha!
I love that this this outfit looks nice and he likes that it’s still crazy comfy.
That’s what I call a WIN WIN.
These pieces feel like athletic clothes, even though they look quite a bit nicer. We’re both happy when he wears these types of outfits, and I would like to thank the Under Armour designer who came up with this look. A big virtual high five from all the mamas.
The backpack is so roomy, and GREAT NEWS… it’s ON SALE! The main compartment is super spacious, it can accommodate up to a 17″ laptop pocket, and it has 6 accessory pockets to help with organization. It also boasts LoadSpring™ shoulder straps that help ease the weight of the backpack for easy carrying.
The lunch sack coordinates with the backpack but doesn’t match it exactly, which Carter prefers. And it’s ON SALE too!
Carter loves that the side pocket holds his water bottle and makes it easily accessible.
Over the last couple of years I’ve learned that shoes are very important to Carter. Of course they must be comfortable, but they must also look really cool. Bonus if they slip on and you don’t even have to bother with tying them.
These Adidas sneakers check all the boxes. And at 30% OFF, they are ONLY $34.99! That makes this mama very happy.
Carter is comfy in this outfit, and I think he looks super cute.
We talk a lot about first impressions over here, so I like that when he actually gets to go back to school, he has an outfit like this that he can wear the first day.
At this time, our district is planning on e-learning for the first 3 weeks of school, and then going back to in person after that. I know the data is continually changing, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the plans continue to change as well.
It’s no doubt that this year is going to look a bit different than we ever would have imagined at this time last year, but I know he will do his best to rock it. He’s so compliant and respectful, so even if he has to do e-learning for longer than 3 weeks, I’m certain he will rise to the occasion. And as a parent, I know a lot of how he approaches the school year will be a direct reflection of how we present the options to him. That’s a lot of responsibility for all of us parents, so let’s do our best to be positive and supportive!

So if Carter was allowed to choose what he wore every single day, this would be the combo he would go for. And when e-learning, this will be the type of outfit you’ll see him in for sure.
Truth be told, he’ll probably wear the exact same outfit 2 days in a row, and then change on the 3rd. That’s kind of how he rolled this summer. Haha! He’d be all “But I didn’t see anybody”, and then I’d be all “Less laundry? Fine by me!”
There are a couple types of Under Armour shirts that he likes, but this pair of shorts are his absolute favorite. The “exposed waistband” in the back is similar to the waistband of the boxer briefs he wears. He says that they are, and I quote, “the most comfortable pair of shorts I’ve ever had on my body.” I’d say that’s a glowing endorsement from an 11 year old boy.
This is his soccer backpack from last year, and it’s still in great shape. This year’s version is a little different, but there’s still a spacious opening designed to hold a soccer ball.
The plan now is that he will get to start playing again in September, but we’ll see.
As payment for being such a great sport for this post, Carter grabbed 2 pairs of sneakers during our shopping trip. #hesashoeman
And more great news! These Adidas sneakers are ON SALE too! They have a sock like design which promotes a snug and comfy fit. Carter says they are very lightweight and he feels like they are very supportive.
I simply cannot believe that he’s headed to middle school.
But I sure am proud of the little man that he’s becoming.
When you’re back to school shopping for your kiddos, make sure you think about what types of activities you can be encouraging during p.e. and after school. Grab a new soccer ball as a surprise, a new volleyball, or anything that will get them excited to be active!
Ready or not, here he comes!

Just a couple of more outfits today before you go, and I’m getting in on the fun this time!
The post with Carter and Chris last month highlighted how they are often found dressed head to toe in Academy, and you’ll see right now that you can sometimes find me the same way.
Chris grabbed a pic of us this past Saturday because we looked like a walking Academy ad.
The 2 furry guys like to be walked at about 2:30 every day. It doesn’t matter to them if it’s raining, it doesn’t matter to them if it’s 187 degrees, and it doesn’t matter if it’s sleeting. I’m telling you, NOTHING MATTERS but the walk. They’re hysterical.
This particular day it was 187 degrees, so a black top wasn’t the best choice. #oops The shorts are some of my favorites, and now that they come in additional colors, I’ll definitely be grabbing another pair. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in the shirt and a small in the shorts.
Charlie would only agree to sitting still for about 2.5 seconds.
A boy and his dogs.
Chris and I died laughing when we saw this pic. The 2 furry boys definitely need a quarantine cut! MY WORD they are extra furry right now. If you saw how much hair we dust busted up each day, you would wonder how they had any left on their bodies. But my goodness they do.
With all of the unknowns that 2020 has brought us, the normalcy of shopping for back to school items felt wonderful. Whether he’ll be e-learning or eventually safely back to school in person, Academy has him all set!
