Today’s post is short and sweet for several reasons: 1) Carter’s birthday was this weekend (pictures to come on Friday), and we spent a lot of the weekend celebrating him! 2) Pollen TOOK ME DOWN on Saturday. I went down hard. I was miserable. #ihateyoupollen 3) Even though I was feeling better on Sunday (as far as allergies go), I was pretty much good for nothing after a double dose of allergy medicine. It was as if I’d been drugged. I slept on the couch for a good portion of the day, with life happening all around me. Chris said I was hard core snoring. #awesome
So…..even though I had originally planned a pretty long and involved post for today, I’ve moved it to Wednesday. Today I’m going to talk quickly about a huge trend that’s happening right now: A SPECIAL SLEEVE.
Before I get started today though, I wanted to take some time to recognize all of those in Irma’s path. We are all praying for you! I’m sure many of you are just like me…and any spare second you had this weekend was spent in front of the t.v., hoping and praying that the storm would weaken or change paths to less populated areas. It’s absolutely heartbreaking that Irma is affecting so many, and right on the heels of Harvey. I feel confident that the people of Florida will come together, like Texans have! I’m also hopeful that people from all over will continue to come together and CONTINUE TO GIVE.
And while we are talking about serious and important matters, I also want to take a moment to remember September 11th. So many innocent people died so senselessly, and none of us will ever forget. If you’re a praying person, let’s all join together to commit to praying for families affected by September 11th, as well as families that are having to rebuild their lives because of Harvey and Irma. I believe in the power of prayer, and so many people are in desperate need of prayer right now.

Last week I was doing some fall outfit planning and came up with this combination!
LOOK. AT. THE. SLEEVES.
And it comes in navy too! #calmdown
The online description says it’s a sweatshirt, but after feeling it and wearing it, I think it’s way more like a very thick t-shirt that has some stretch to it. #clearasmud? It’s a really nice heavy fabric, and the sleeves are just about too darling for words. I love all of the detail, without the feeling of being way too over the top.
Size references: size small top (true to size), size 27 jeans (true to size), size up a 1/2 size in the booties.
This purse is too small for my taste, but for those of you that like a smaller bag, this could be right up your alley.
ruffle sleeve sweatshirt / turquoise triangle necklace c.o The Starfish Project/similar earrings / pajama jeans / leopard belt / booties / leather and suede cross body bag
Get The Look For Yourself Here:
And here are some other options for you with some special sleeves (from several different retailers)! FYI: lots of sleeves out there right now are wayyyyyyyyyy too fancy for me. I saw one top that was cold shoulder, ruffle sleeved, split, and it had bows. No need to combine them all together, people!
I like it to just stick to one or two understated “features” and do that feature well (ex. a bell sleeve, a ruffle sleeve, a tie sleeve, etc….).
These sleeves featured below seem to be just right!
a. dolman sleeve sweater / b. black tie sleeve top / c. tiered sleeve dress / d. ruffle sleeve top
e. hydrangea bouquet dress / f. blossom tie cuff dress /g. patrizia top / h. gingham split bell sleeve
One more thing before you go, if you are a Natori lover, there are lots of pieces deeply discounted here.
See y’all back here on Monday!
Oh, wait! I need to announce the contest winner!! And the winner is……Heather (nominated by Lisa Richardson)!

UPDATE: ADDED at 9:00 a.m. after a reader e-mail! Thank you, Marci R. for letting me know!
Certain colors of the Sam Edelman felicia flats are ON SALE! I named these babies a SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MUST HAVE about a year and a half ago, and they are still in constant rotation in my wardrobe. The “bare nude” and the “golden caramel” are both great neutrals, but there are lots of vibrant colors and some patterns on sale as well. (The grey multi floral garden jacquard is so pretty!) I’m telling you, flats DO NOT GET MORE COMFY THAN THESE. Teacher who are on their feet all day swear by them, and they go with jeans, khakis, skirts, and dresses.
- similar military jacket/ 2. rainbow wood bead tassel necklace / 3. stella and dot arrow necklace / 4. gorjana circle hoop earrings / 5. ag skinny ankle jeans (less expensive option HERE with a similar fit)/ 6. similar double wrap leather watch/ 7. lancome fashion icon lipstick (it looks like a dark purple on the site, but it’s a really pretty cranberry color!) 8. Jo Malone fragrance / 9. bobbi brown lip gloss (ONSALE!)/ 10. ray-bans / 11. cushion cut bracelet / 12. NARS tinted moisturizer / 13. beauty blender / 14. Sam Edelman “Felicia” nude leather flats.

I’m still upset that Carter and Kensington are turning nine this week. That being said, the sleeves on that top helped cheer me up a bit. #sofreakingcute

I have the Articles of Society Sarah (pajama) jeans, too. After wearing a few hours, they are loose enough to take off and pull on without even unbuttoning. Would you suggest sizing down an additional size? You and I are normally the exact same size in jeans, so I’m just wondering if you’ve ever had this experience!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Danielle! Hmmmmm…the jeans I actually call pajama jeans are the Carly jeans (also Articles of Society). Are you talking about the Sarah jeans (that I have on in today’s post? Either way, I guess it definitely sounds like you need to size down another full size! I definitely can’t pull mine off and on at the end of a day. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Danielle says
Thanks. Yes, I meant the Sarah jeans you featured in the post, which I ironically had ordered two days ago (great minds think alike)! Love your blog – every “must have” has been spot on. I don’t even question it anymore…I just order and know I’ll love it. 🙂 Keep up the good work!
Sheaffer says
Love to hear that, Danielle! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Thanks for the heads up on the Sam Edelman flats sale! I’ll definitely be adding one (or two or three) new colors to my collection. These are the most comfy (and cute) shoes I’ve ever owned.

The link for c. tiered sleeve dress is leading to h. gingham split bell sleeve
I didn’t see the tiered sleeve dress on Loft and I’d love to get a working link for it!

I enjoy the blog! I so love the outfit inspiration. One question…. how does one wear all these frilly sleeves this fall/winter with a sweater? Coat? I have a simpler top with minimal puff– at church yesterday I pulled on my sweater and the fabric of both seemed to be fighting each other. I think I looked strange with all this puff of fabric on my 1/3 upper arm. I have a hard time thinking of purchasing these tops with the idea of what/which sweater to wear. Even my so cute denim jacket I tried on following services at home and it too was a strange look/feel.
Sheaffer says
You bring up a great point, Cindy! A lot of these tops with embellished sleeves are not built to be layered. They would create too much bulkiness and awkwardness for sure. So, when you purchase one of these tops, it needs to be with the idea that you will just be wearing it on it’s own. xoxo, Sheaffer
Deanna says
Super cute stuff! BUT…the red tiered sleeve dressed actually links to a ruffle sleeve top on LOFT. Dying to know where to get that red dress!
Sheaffer says
So Sorry, Deanna! I fixed the link! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

SHEAFFER!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!! I just let Heather know about the prize. They just got back to Texas and into their rental home over the weekend. This will be such a great “lift” for her!!! (and I’m super jealous because I’d love one of those bags, but not at the price of the entire downstairs of my home????) Thank you and your friends at Barrington and Colleen Rothschild for their generosity! Hope you can get your feet back under you once the allergy meds wear off! Happy Monday! I’m elated!!!!????
Sheaffer says
Yay, Lisa! I hope this brings Heather a bit of a bright spot!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Sheaffer!!! I missed this post this am!! I absolutely am loving that first top! SO STINKIN’ CUTE!!!
Monica says
HELP!!! Now we need to find a cute poncho or something to wear over these sleeves because my denim jacket doesn’t work! Hope on it….I know you can do it!!!!
