So I did what every good little blogger would do.
I ordered several sweaters.
Because DEDICATED.
I ordered several, tried on even more at the store, and I wound up keeping 2.
2 black sweaters.
Although they both come in a multitude of colors, I gravitated towards the black in both.
There’s just something about a great black sweater.
#amiright
You’ve already seen one of the two when I styled it with my camo pants on Monday’s post. I just thought it was a great basic AND CLASSIC sweater that I would wear for years to come.
This next one I ordered on a whim.
And OHHHHHH EMMMMMMMMMMM GEEEEEEEEEEE.
I adore it.
It’s soft…it’s flattering….it comes in lots of colors…..it can be dressed up or down…..and there is a bit of a surprise with it…..I’ll get to that in a minute!
sweater (waterfall cardigan)
my exact camisole / 2015 cuffed Vigoss jeans / similar leopard belt / similar taupe booties / earrings
The sweater reminds me a lot of the grey waterfall cardigan I got last year (that everybody loved!), so I knew I would get lots of use out of it. I threw that cardigan on all the time last year, so now I’m happy to have a similar one in black. It drapes nicely and is just easy to wear.
But look at this…..
For a different look, you can also tie it up in the front like this! So fun!
#sassy
And now I’m going to blow your mind.
The ends of the waterfall cardigan have two tiny little buttons on them, and the sweater has a couple of tiny button holes.
Wrap it around….Button up the ends……….
…and VOILA!
You’ve got a DARLING WRAP SWEATER!!!!!
MIND. BLOWN.
Right?
Even though I love the waterfall cardi, I think this is going to be my favorite way to wear it!
sweater / my exact camisole / 2015 cuffed Vigoss jeans / similar leopard belt / similar taupe booties / earrings
Below I have it shown with my Vigoss Chelsea boot cut jeans (vs. the cuffed jeans above).
(SIDENOTE: I fall more in love with these boot cut jeans every single time I wear them! They elongate my legs and slim out my hips!)
I am wearing it as a Wrap Sweater on the left and a Waterfall Cardigan on the right
sweater / cami / boot cut jeans
*And fyi: Vigoss came out with new styles this week:
a grey Thompson Tomboy HERE and a non-distressed flare HERE
Here’s a side by side of 3 of the 4 looks you can create with THIS ONE SWEATER!
(Yes, there’s a 4th way to wear it that you can see online!)
Before I took the sweater off, I thought it would be fun to show it with my white skinny jeans and cognac boots. I know many of you are still scared to wear white after Labor Day, but you shouldn’t be! When you pair them with black and brown, it totally “winterizes” them and makes them appropriate for fall and winter!
sweater / cami / earrings / similar white skinnies from Paige (on sale!)/ similar cognac boots (on sale!)
Here’s the other sweater I mentioned earlier.
It’s cashmere.
HELLO.
I’ve never owned a cashmere sweater before, but now I see what all of the fuss is about.
It’s so soft, and this particular sweater is very lightweight.
It comes in lots of colors (and it also comes in regular and petite)!
cashmere v-neck sweater / similar camo pants / circle hoop earrings / similar taupe booties
with skinny jeans and tall brown boots
with cuffed jeans and leopard flats
with white jeans and grey booties
with grey jeans and either black or brown boots
with a camel colored pencil skirt or dress pants
with colored jeans
The results are truly endless.
Click HERE to see my black sweater Pinterest board I created for inspiration.
Here are several black sweaters to choose from because every closet needs at least 1.
Even if the sweater shown isn’t black, click on the sweater you are interested in and it will take you to a black sweater! And hey, if you aren’t interested in a black sweater, you won’t believe the color options for each of them!
And while we are talking about cozy things, I have a couple more items to show you that I tried on last time I was at Nordstrom
I was wearing a small. It’s very soft and I think it would be great with leggings as well!
Click HERE for this color block sweatshirt.
Y’all.
I’ll be the first to say it isn’t the cutest thing I’ve ever had on.
BUT OH MY WORD it’s one of the Top 3 coziest things I’ve ever cuddled up with.
That short list includes the blardigan and a bunny rabbit. And now THIS. 😉
It’s by the maker of THIS asymmetrical wrap cardigan (comes in plus size as well) that soooooo many people adore and went crazy over last year (and comes in TONS of different colors and patterns and is NOW ON SALE!)
Well, this sweatshirt feels the same inside as that cardigan.
For size reference, I was wearing a small.
That’s it for today girls!
I hope everybody has a great weekend with their friends and family.
We actually have a whole lot of nothing planned, and I’m SUPER excited about it.
And since it’s raining all weekend, I’m thinking taco soup is in my future. And that makes me happy.
Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
xoxo,
p.s.
I have a public service announcement.
I know many of you ordered THIS tunic tee.
I’ve received 3 e-mails now from readers who have already washed theirs, and here’s the announcement….
DON’T WASH IT!
Apparently it shrinks like CRAZY.
One reader even said it shrunk in the wash (before it had even been put in the dryer).
So, if you have it already, it sounds like it’s going to be dry clean only.
And if you don’t like getting things dry cleaned, you should probably pass on this tee.
Erika Slaughter says
That baby blardigan/orange tee combo is one of my favorite looks!!! I think that three-in-1 sweater is like "duh"…if it can do all that we probably all need it.
The Rohman Family says
Oh my, baby blardigan and the Chuck Taylor shorelines just arrived and BOTH are so comfortable! Thanks for the suggestions!
Colby, Pennie, Cade and Claire Langford says
Me too!!!!! I love both sooooooo much 🙂
Sarah Kuykendall says
Thanks for your hard work. For real. I am dying for the baby blardigan. It's number one on my Christmas wish list 🙂
Julie Connelly says
I second that reader about the tunic shrinking in the wash & I ALWAYS wash everything in COLD water. I haven't gotten up the courage to put it back on yet…I have a feeling I won't be able to wear it anymore 🙁
Mix and Match Mama says
I have a black sweater and you've inspired me to wear it today (and you've inspired me to shop online for a few more sweaters). I love sweater weather!!
Charming Lucy says
I ordered the baby blardigan and it is supposed to arrive today! Feels like Christmas(: Susan
Narci says
So last night it was so cozy with the rain, etc…and, I seriously thought…you know what would make this night even better…the Baby Blardigan. True story! Haha!!
Hayley Farnsworth says
why on earth feature a shirt that can't be washed??
Sheaffer says
Hi Hayley! I featured the shirt a couple of weeks ago before I knew that it didn't wash well. I took pictures of it the first day I wore it, and I hadn't washed it myself yet. I received some e-mails this week about it shrinking, so I felt it was important to share with readers (since I knew many had purchased it) to NOT wash it. I didn't want others to be surprised when they took theirs out of the wash. I also say in today's post that if you don't like dry cleaning, then you should maybe pass on this shirt. So to be fair, when I first featured it, I had not idea about the trouble with washing. Today was just to let everybody know about the problems people were having with it. Even if I had known about the washing issues on the initial post, I probably still would have featured it (because I love it!), I would have just put the disclaimer up front that if you aren't willing to dry clean then you shouldn't buy it! I try very hard to tell y'all everything I can about an item so you can make the most informed shopping decision possible. I hope this clears things up! xoxo, Sheaffer

Thank you for sharing the info on the tee! I haven't even worn mine yet so I will be returning them!
Sherrie Moore says
Just wanted to let your readers know… if they bought the shrinking tunic top from Nordstrom… and they are unhappy because it shrunk. Return it to Nordstrom! They have a wonderful return policy!!! And the website says "machine wash cold"
Sheaffer says
I'm glad you said this Sherrie! I was hesitant to put it in black and white since I don't work for Nordstrom and obviously have no control over what they do and do not take back. But I have always been 100% pleased with their return service and customer service. I feel quite sure they would take this tee back! They are truly the best in the business!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
selah says
Oh I love that wrap sweater! What size did you end up with?
Sheaffer says
Hi Selah! It's a small!!! Xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
selah says
Thanks! Just checking because I am usually a size smaller than you due to my lack of boobage lol
Melissa says
About the rust tunic you have….I love it so much and I would love to have the olive color- even if i cant wash it! I live chatted last night with Nordstrom and they said there is not a wait list for that item 🙁 Do you know if they will restock the rust or olive shades? I can just live chat again today, but from your first post about this tunic, I thought maybe you had some insight as to hopes for getting more colors stocked in the future! any thoughts? thank you, Sheaffer!

Thanks for the info about the tunic top. I have worn mine but not washed it. To be honest I do like it enough to dry clean it. I some how lucked out into the burnt orange one and love the color!

dresselfamily.blogspot.com says

Jessica Barshinger says
Sheaffer, I LOVE the black wrap sweater, but am questioning the length for me…I'm pretty long waisted and sometimes things just don't hit me in the right place. It looks much shorter on the model. Help! 🙂
Hannah Hardy says
Ok, I'm also MIND BLOWN by the 3 way sweater! Adorable. I LOVE that you take the time tell us readers "hey don't wash it shrinks!" Super helpful!! Totally agree with the comment above, Nordstrom's return policy is on point every time. That baby blardigan and tunic is still a big favorite of mine.
June says
Absolutely love your blog Sheaffer. I write reviews for my nordstrom purchases (code name Sebastianmom) and always reference you and this blog. Just got my shorelines yesterday and am in love. Although I have returned the baby blardigan (I know gasp in horror), I absolutely agree with all you wrote. I just wanted a more versatile piece that didn't feel like I was wearing a bathrobe outside. Thank you for all your hard work, recommendations and PSAs. It is so appreciated!!!!

Recently started following your blog on the recommendation of a friend who saw my post on Facebook about the horrors of trying to find the balance of fashion in my 40's and not looking like a really old teenager. I look forward to your posts (and your awesome humor), love that you are not amazon tall (I'm 5'3 so knowing what I might look like in something is super helpful), and I too have super love for Nordy's and The Loft. I'm drooling over the black baby blardigan but usually shy away from collars that fold over like that because they just overwhelm me, but seeing you in it makes me think that maybe, just maybe I can pull it off! Btw you've inspired me to try high boots again!
Kim Kauffman says
Well crap I'm wearing that tunic top for the first time today! I hope I get lucky and no shrinking. I have no problem buying clothes that need dry cleaned – but those are my "out without the kids clothes." I can't dry clean a t-shirt lol!
Sheaffer says
Kim, I wouldn't try it. People say that it shrank so much that it was unwearable. If you love it, dry clean it!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Heather Bramlett says
Question about the "shrinking" of the tunic. I ordered up in size based on your suggestion and some reviews and I really wished I hadn't. So mine really needs to shrink… In your opinion or anyone else's… Does it shrink a whole size??? Thanks in advance for any help! Oh and the baby blardigan… Amazing!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Heather! From what I hear, it shrinks WAY MORE than a size. Like it's pretty much unwearable. 🙁 So glad you love the baby blardigan! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Paige says
Love your vigoss tomboy distressed jeans!! I have ordered a bunch of different pairs of vigoss and they just don't fit me well 🙁 I took Shay's advice and ordered a pair of blanknyc skinnies. They fit great, but they're tighter in the leg and I like how yours look more relaxed. I'll keep trying!

Thank you for always trying to post plus-size options. Although I am 52, your blog inspires me to try new things. I actually ordered my FIRST pair of leggings (the must-haves) and I LOVE them- with a really long top!! I just wish they would restock the graphite! Today I ordered the black sweater with the button on the shoulder. Can't do the white jeans after Labor Day though- too old school! Have a great weekend!

Sorry Sheaffer – I didn't realize that it took a while for comments to post. I've already commented on a previous post. Forgive the aging brain!
April Parrish says
Black is my signature color!!! You spoke my love language today…super cute black sweaters on the blog!!!
You just can't go wrong with black!
Have a great weekend!
Amanda Thompson says
Hi Sheaffer! Sorry my comment has nothing to do with this particular post, but just had an idea that came to me for your site. As a preface, I wanted to say thanks for this great blog!! I almost shop exclusively from your tips and posts – it's sooo helpful to know how things fit! I live in an area where we don't have much shopping and the stores we do have carry limited styles. Here's my idea: Have a search field on your website where one could input the store name (or select from a drop down list) and name of the product to find out if you've done a review at some point in the past on that item of clothing or accessory…sort of a backwards way to search specific products on your website. That may be a massive technological feat – I don't know, but it could be a really neat feature! Ok, thanks for considering and I'll keep reading either way!!
Sheaffer says
That's a great idea Amanda, but I have NO idea how that would work from a technical standpoint?!? I could probably make it work with the search bar there already is if I could just be better at "tagging" specific items in a post! I'll think about it!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 🙂
Amanda Thompson says
Well you are sweet to comment so quickly! Yes, maybe "tagging" would do it…but that sounds like more work for you – so maybe not worth it. Just a thought =) I've just sort of gotten to the point where I don't want to buy something without your stamp of approval – ha!…clearly you've found a great niche!! Thanks for all the clothes reviews!!
Ashley Kent says
Just a thought… I sometimes want to find a specific item that Sheaffer talked about. I just google "said item and Pinterest told me to" and it usually pulls it up, or at least narrows it down for me. I hope that helps a little.
The Rohman Family says
YES, GIRLS!!! Take the t-shirts back!!! I didn't order it, but Nordstrom has always been the BEST at customer service and I'm sure they'd love to make it right!!
Shannon says
Hi Sheaffer!
This isn't a question about the sweaters, so I hope that's okay! I'm totally digging the flare jeans, but have no idea which shoes to wear with them. With it starting to get cooler (I'm in Houston, so cooler is a relative term 🙂 ), I feel like anything open toed wouldn't work, but I also feel frumpy in flats (maybe I'm just not wearing the right flats?). Could you do a post on or give some shoe suggestions?
Sheaffer says
Hi Shannon! I wear wedge boots and normal booties with my flare jeans! The only thing I have to make sure of is that the heel is high enough so the flares won't drag the floor! Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cameron Cummings says
I just put on my circle cardigan for the first time and Oh. Dear. Lord. I promptly ordered the second color as well. I may not ever wear anything else again. It is beyond comfortable!
