I would like to start off today’s post with a huge heart-felt THANK YOU. Chris and I have been overwhelmed by your sweet and encouraging words. We are still having a really rough time over here. We knew this would be tough, but to be completely honest, we had no idea how painful it would be. We miss Scout terribly. We have shared so many memories about our sweet puppy over the last several days, and I know that at some point the pain will lessen and our happy memories will be at the forefront. We are looking forward to that day, and my goodness do we have a lot of precious memories!
We kept Carter home from school on Wednesday so we could spend time together as a family. We did lots of fun things together and were able to do lots of smiling and laughing, which was really good medicine for all of us. I might have jumped in the pool with my clothes on (anything for a smile from the little guy), and Chris won 2 prizes from the claw machine at the arcade (and I didn’t think anybody ever won anything from those machines)! I was worried about Carter going back to school on Thursday (he had a tough night Wednesday night and a tough morning Thursday morning), so I decided to take him and a friend lunch so I could check on him. It did my heart good to see him doing okay.
When getting dressed to head to the school yesterday, I thought wearing my SQUAD shirt was appropriate, because the last several days I’ve found myself so thankful for my squad. Texts, calls, cards, brownies, pie, cake, rotisserie chickens, and lots of lots of hugs and prayers. I’m thankful for all of these things from my people! I’m also thankful that all of you are part of my extended squad.
SQUAD tee / cognac sandals / charm hoop earrings / cross body bag / similar jeans from same maker
The outfit was cute, casual, and the tee gave a shout out to my squad. 😉 What do you think about my new cross body? It’s a great color, a great size for those of you that have been asking for a smaller bag, and I love the shape and style.
And check out my Mother’s Day present! These charm hoop earrings are SO COOL. Mine are the champagne/pearl/rose gold and they are just plain pretty. I think it’s fun how you can leave all 4 charms on each hoop, or you can choose which 1,2, or 3 to have (they slip on and off easily).
I get asked questions about my above sandals a lot, but sadly they are Steve Madden from last year and no longer available. HOWEVER. THESE are the 2016 version of the same sandal. I like them just as much, and they are NOW ON SALE!

When I got from lunch with Carter yesterday, the summer blardigan I ordered last week had finally arrived. And you know I had to try it immediately. I’ll be honest, when I first put it on I wasn’t super impressed. It certainly wasn’t love at first wear like the original blardigan because it’s not the dreamy cozy material. But the whole point of this is that it’s a summer weight. I didn’t even think I was going to keep it at first, but I ended up wearing it all evening long, and now I see how it’s actually the perfect thing to throw on during the summer while at home. It’s very light weight, but still manages to be cozy. I wore it with the below outfit in the afternoon..and then I wore it with some of my favorite Old Navy pajamas (exact pair sold out, but current selection HERE). When at home, I really like to wrap up in things!
One more thing today, girls! I know lots of you use and love Kiehl’s products, so I thought you would want to know they are 20% OFF right now. If you are Kiehl’s lover, leave a comment with your favorite products so we can see what everybody is loving. They all have fantastic reviews, but I know there are certain products people FREAK over!
ultra facial cream / creamy eye treatment with avocado / eye de-puffer / ultra facial moisturizer / sunscreen / midnight recovery concentrate

Thanks to all of you again for your sweet words about our precious Scout. We have read every single one of them, and they mean the world.

You are the best, girl! Jumping in fully clothed to brighten Carter’s day is awesome! And your squad shirt is so cute! Happy to be a part of your squad. 🙂

The Avocado eye treatment is awesome. I have dry skin under my eyes and my concealer would get all cakey. After searching, I found this and have been using it for over six months. Not greasy or too heavy either.

Losing an animal is so hard! It’s been a year since we had to let ours go – and I still walk into the house waiting for him to greet me. It will get easier, but the memory is always with you. Lots of prayers

Have you ever made one of the online photobooks? I now make these as yearly volumes instead of printing pictures and putting them in an old fashioned album.. Anyways, when our dog passed (I totally understand how it hurts so much its actual physical pain), I made up a photobook just about him. Pictures from his whole life, puppy, with our kids, the funny things he did etc. It was very therapeutic and a wonderful memory of him to pull out and look at – 4 years later it still makes me cry. Making the book itself was very helpful.
I like the “My Publisher” photobook website but there are many out there.

Dear Sheaffer,
Terribly sorry about your precious dog…Scout looked like he had a long wonderful life thanks to your good care and love surrounding him. Every dog leaves a paw print on our hearts…so trite, but so true. And a wonderful memory for your son to keep with him.
I am too old for many of your clothing tips, ( do love the blardigan, though) but shop for my 40 year old daughter with your recommendations. She loves the “best shirt” ever in the dark green…and since she is 5 months pregnant, I thought it was a great transitional top. I would never know what to buy for her or her sister, but you and Ms. Cassie Sugarplum keep me current! You both are adorable! Thanks for all your style tips!

Hi Sheaffer,
I lost my sweet old pug Willy and it was very difficult. They are a part of your family, they add to the life and love of your everyday and when they pass you feel the void. I promise it will get better with time and you will look upon all your memories with smiles and joy.
My thoughts for you and your boys, I’m so very sorry for your loss.
Virtual hugs,
Veronica

You expect to be heartbroken over family (humans), but no one prepares you for the loss of a beloved pet. So so hard. Still sending good thoughts your way!

Target has an exact look alike shoe to your Steve Maddens: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-lina-gladiator-sandals-mossimo-supply-co/-/A-50387640#prodSlot=medium_1_30&term=mossimo+sandal
I wore them all day at the elementary school field day, and they are definitely comfy! They look identical. You could definitely point people in that direction!

Target has a pair of sandals that look almost identical to your pair. I think they’re around $20. I bought them and LOVE them. I remember losing my first dog when I was in elementary school. A black lab named squire. He was the best but it was really really hard. Now I only have fond memories of him.
Sheaffer says
Hi Rachel! I tried these at Target yesterday when another reader recommended them. I found them stiff and not comfortable. I never have luck with Target shoes, and I hate it because they have some realllllly cute ones! xoxo, Sheaffer

I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved Scout, and I think it’s great you took a family day together to grieve. You have so many beautiful photos and memories of him to cherish forever.
I use primarily all Kiehl’s in my skin care regimen…the Ultra Facial Cleanser, Midnight Recovery Oil, Multi-Corrective Cream and the eye serum. Also a huge fan of the foaming Lavender bath and body wash for the tub!

I am so sorry about your precious Scout. Goldens are the best dogs; they are kindness, joy, love and sweetness all rolled up in a big furry coat! Hugs to your family!
Jeanie says
I hope you and your family find peace soon. Know that Scout had a full, happy life with the people he loved.

You are so in my thoughts and prayers. When we put our dog to sleep a month ago, we knew it would be painful but were completely unprepared for the depth of grief. The empty hole in our house is huge, and we miss everything about him. I even miss swiffering dog hair! The pain is real, but it will fade….
Tiffany Gardner says
Your posts about your dear dog take my breath away as I remember the day we put our beloved dog down too. I don’t know you and you don’t know me…but I’m praying for you and your family. Pets give us so much and ask for nothing in return. They fill the holes in our heart. They love and protect our kids and our kids look at them like siblings. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and I pray you each feel Him with you.
Jennifer says
Such a cute shirt and outfit. Glad to hear your family is doing a TINY bit better. Happy Sunday!
Diana says
Scout looks very happy in the photos from Thursday. I always grieve for a very long time, but know it won’t last forever, when a pet dies. Your son will learn how to grieve well because of you. I pray you will take time to be kind to yourself. Do something symbolic to honor Scout. Love and hugs.
