Today’s post is simple. I’m going to show you 3 outfits I wore last week. I’m wearing the same jeans and boots in all 3 outfits… I just switched up the tops, accessories, and bags.
OUTFIT #1: DARLING SWEATER
Y’all. THIS SWEATER is darling. It’s striped (love). It’s grey (love). AND IT HAS A RUFFLE (LOVE.). Now, although I often admire ruffles on shirts, I usually find that I can’t wear them. Ruffles usually add extra bulk around my chest, and I don’t need any extra bulk around my chest. But this ruffle is placed high enough that it doesn’t cause any issues! Hooray! I’m wearing a small in the sweater, so I think it’s true to size.

Speaking of ruffles, check out THIS new ruffle hemmed cardigan. What a perfect transition piece for spring! #imighthaveorderedoneformyself #allegedly
I will wear it with jeans and tall boots with a great necklace. I will also dress it down with just a great tee (I have this one and love it) and converse. And probably my favorite arrow necklace, or something similar like this $14 bar charm (with excellent reviews).
Look how cute….

OUTFIT #2: PLAID SHIRT
Y’all know I love a plaid shirt. I have collected several over the years, and I still wear some that are over 5 years old. They are a closet staple that I find myself reaching for again and again. All of the plaid shirts I have are cut the same way. They all have collars and a squared off hem at the bottom. Well, not this one! I love the rounded (and frayed) hem of this particular collarless plaid shirt. I also love the colors. I’m wearing a small, so it’s true to size. I’m wearing it out here, but it’s not bulky, so it could be easily tucked in a half tuck as well. The shirt is from Treasure and Bond…and when you buy Treasure&Bond, Nordstrom will donate 2.5% of net sales to organizations that work to empower youth.

OUTFIT #3: SWEATSHIRT AND MILITARY JACKET
I’m pretty much the spokesperson for the military jacket. I used to think my MUST HAVE denim jacket was the most worn jacket in my closet…but now I know it’s one of my 5 military jackets. Yes, I have 5. But don’t judge, they are all very different. Seriously.
I throw on my denim jacket with maxi dresses, sundresses, shorts, cords, and white jeans all the time…but anytime I’m wearing regular ol’ denim jeans (which is A LOT…pretty much all the time), a military jacket is my jacket of choice. And I wear them all year long.
So here’s an example of one of my favorite military jacket outfits. I wore this on a day where it was quite cool in the morning, but it had warmed up to almost 70 by the end of the day.

So, let’s talk about my military jacket collection (that I’ve collected over the last 5-6 years). I have a peplum hem military jacket (I got this one years before I started the blog!), a long one with a gathered waist that covers my backside, one that hits at my hips with an aztec design on the back, one that has a structured collar that stands up and is kind of dressy, and one that’s way less structured with a large collar (the one I’m wearing above). I love them all and wear them all. Here are some current choices. Just click on what you are interested in!
I promise that if you don’t have a military jacket, adding one to your closet will really help stretch your wardrobe. If you happen to be a military jacket spokesperson like I am, please leave a comment saying how many you own! Military jacket lovers UNITE! 🙂
See y’all back here on Wednesday for the Bachelor recap!

Sheaffer!! The ruffles are SO cute!! The cardigan with ruffles-oh my!
Sarah says
I have 4 military jackets, and like you, I wear all 4 of them and feel like they are different enough that it’s not weird. And by Wednesday I’ll have a ruffle hem cardigan as well. 🙂
Shay Shull says
I love that you kept the jeans and boots the same in every outfit. And that ruffled sweater…that’s just too cute!
Amy says
I am in 100% agreement with you on necessity of a military jacket(s). I have 2, but I wear them constantly. I’m thinking of adding one in a different color (like navy or khaki), but I just love the green so much that it will probably be another green one.
Stephanie says
I’ve never actually tried a military jacket before. i always think they’re cute but I’m never quick to add one to my wardrobe.

I love the cardigan with the ruffles! Do you mind if I ask what size cardigan you ordered, we look like we might be about the same size. Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Vanda! I ordered a small! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Vanda says
Thank you so much!!!
Nicole says
I feel the same way about military jackets. It’s an essential! I’ve been looking for one in gray for a while though, any suggestions?
Thanks for all you do!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Nicole! Madewell use to have a great one, but it’s no longer available. I’ll keep my eyes peeled! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Susie M. says
The Caslon one you linked comes in grey!
Erin says
I got my military jacket at J Crew a couple years ago. I wear it a lot and always get compliments on it. It’s a little more structured and not at all slouchy so it feels age-appropriate for me 🙂
Amy says
When I can’t figure out how to finish an outfit, the answer is almost always “military jacket”. I have a similar collection, the sweater back, the Old Navy one with the open collar, and a fitted one, but have been missing one that is longer and more like an anorak- so that is on my spring search list!
Susan W. says
LOVE this post, Sheaffer! The Halogen ruffled cardigan is so cute, and versatile. Just ordered both the XS and S in the grey color, Nordstrom has free shipping both ways so it’s nice to get a few sizes to try on at home (as I can be all over the place with sizing.). This sweater will be perfect for year round wear. Thanks for your fashion inspiration!
Susan W. says
My bad! In my earlier comment, I meant to say ‘Hinge’ and NOT Halogen! lol
Lisa Richardson says
The ruffled cardigan is so adorable. Love my military jackets. 2 green (one short, one a little longer) and a coral one that I wear all the time in the spring. #powertothemilitaryjacket

I only have one, but I LOVE my military jacket!!
