Hello, Ladies! I’m thrilled that it’s Friday, I’m super pumped about today’s post, and I’m just tickled that there’s not any ice on the roads.
TEXAS WEATHER IS WILD, Y’ALL.
On Monday, we walked the dogs in shorts because it was 78 degrees.
On Thursday, school was called off because of icy roads.
FOR REAL.
Still, even though it’s 22 degrees as I’m typing this, the glimpses that we have had of spring weather have me all sorts of excited to start transitioning my wardrobe. It’s time to put up the heavy sweaters, and it’s time to pull out the light layers. It’s time to put up the Uggs and boots, and it’s time to pull out the mules and sneakers.
When it comes to dressing for spring, there are two things I like to always have for my outfits: 1) A layer that can easily be put on and taken off as needed. 2) Shoes that are seasonally appropriate. Those two things alone will have all of us ready to start building our spring outfits!
If you feel ill-prepared for the transition to spring, I’ve got great news for you! Today’s post is chock-full of amazing pieces that will help all of us transition seamlessly into spring. I’ve got three great pairs of denim, a military jacket, a denim jacket, and three pairs of shoes that are all perfect to help us ease into warmer temperatures and great spring style.
I’M READY, are y’all?
SPRING OUTFIT #1
This first outfit has a jacket, but it also has open toe shoes, because it’s all about balance.
The jacket is a perfect lightweight layer for spring, and it will also beautifully transition you from summer to fall. It’s totally chic, can be dressed both up and down, and will look awesome with black jeans and white jeans too. Just imagine it styled with a white tank, white jeans, and neutral sandals! For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I do think it runs on the small side.
The tee is so awesome that I bought it in black and grey as well. It comes in 8 additional colors, and I like them all. It’s a wonderful basic, and I know it’s going to serve me well both as a layering piece and worn on its own. Great tees are essential pieces for spring. I like the weight of this one so much that I wish they made it in a v-neck version as well.
I personally like it so much more than the Madewell whisper thin v-neck tees I’ve been wearing for the last several years. The material on this one is much more substantial, but it’s still very soft. If you have a super long torso you might think it’s too short, but it’s a great length for me. Long enough to half-tuck, but not too long that it becomes bunchy. If you prefer the neckline not to be so high, I recommended this rounded neck Caslon tee.

These beaded hoop earrings help bring the spring vibes to this outfit, and the layered necklaces are totally on trend.

Okay, let’s talk about the jeans!
The site officially calls them boyfriend jeans, but they aren’t as generously cut as most boyfriend jeans I’ve tried in the past. I think of them more as a girlfriend jeans. They are definitely more of a relaxed fit than a skinny jean, and they are cut straight through the hips and legs. They do have a good amount of stretch in them, which I appreciate. For size reference, I’m wearing a 4. If your belly isn’t your problem area, you could probably get away with sizing down 1, but I stuck with my regular size. They have just a tiny bit of distressing and boast a thick cuff at the ankle.
Now listen, please know this doesn’t mean that I’m done with skinny jeans. Quite the opposite actually. I still own and still LOVE my skinny jeans. I will definitely continue to wear them, but I am having fun adding new styles to my closet too!

So these braided sandals are a style I would typically wait to wear until closer to summer, but I think they will work for spring too if styled correctly. I’m wearing the “cafe”, but they come in 16 total colors including a cork that is absolutely made for summer. The site says they are true to size, as do several of the reviewers, but I found that I needed to size up a 1/2. I think they are very comfortable, and many reviewers shared that they’d worn them for hours on end with no discomfort at all!

Yep, I’m ready for spring.

SPRING OUTFIT #2
Well, when I purchased and photographed these jeans they were fully stocked. Sadly, when I went to grab the link for this post, I found they are almost sold out. Still, I wanted to show you this outfit because other pieces in it are still available.
button up shirt / sunglasses / hoop earrings / blingy necklace / layered necklace / cream jeans / loafer mules
This button up shirt is 100% cotton and feels like a gauzy cloud. It’s sooo soft and easy to wear, and the color and the style are perfect for transitioning between seasons. For size reference, it runs large. I’m wearing a small and there is still plenty of room. I normally require a medium in button up shirts, but this one is different. You can wear it out, you can do a half tuck, or you can tie it at the waist.

Gold hoops are oftentimes my GO TO earrings, and I love that these hoops are updated with a bit of a wavy silhouette. They are a brushed gold (vs. a shiny gold), which I prefer. They are super lightweight and a great medium size. Not too big, not too small.

cuff bracelet / logo bracelet / button up shirt / cream jeans
This is where I was going to sing the praises of these jeans, but I feel like sharing my love for them is just rude since they are almost sold out. If they get restocked, I’ll be sure to let you know!
The first two pairs of denim featured in this post are Kut from the Kloth and you can click HERE to see all of the options.
button up shirt / cream jeans / loafer mules
These mules definitely deserve a highlight. They are sleek, totally classic, and oh so chic. I love the vibe when they are styled with jeans, but they would be great for the office as well. I’m wearing the nude, but they also come in a pebbled black. True to size for me and very comfortable.

SPRING OUTFIT #3
Of all 3 outfits today, this is the one that I will wear over and over again. It will be a spring uniform for me. It’s great with black jeans, but I could also wear the exact same outfit, but just switch out the black jeans for white jeans!
denim jacket / tee / sunglasses / hoop earrings / blingy necklace / layered necklace / cross body bag / bandana / black jeans / sneakers
Let’s start with my new denim jacket.
I’ve been blogging for 9 years now, and a Kut From The Kloth denim jacket (similar to this one) was actually the first must have I ever named! You have seen that jacket countless times on the blog, and it’s a jacket I actually still wear. 9 years later and going strong!
I will say this, I think a great denim jacket is an absolute necessity for everybody to own. Even if you think you aren’t a denim jacket girl, I challenge you to try one on. I can all but promise you that it will become one of the most worn items in your closet. I reach for mine ALL. THE. TIME.
This year (and last year) there’s been a lot of denim jackets that have come on the scene that are realllllllly oversized. I was never interested in those, but when I saw the one I’m wearing today, I became intrigued. It was an oversized and relaxed fit, but it wasn’t HUGE. I didn’t want it to be huge, but I didn’t want it to be fitted either. This jacket was just what I was looking for. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.
To style it, I roll the sleeves up and pop the collar. It looks awesome with black denim, grey denim, white denim, cream denim, and colored denim. And it’s often the perfect item needed to throw on over a casual spring dress.

Our third and final pair of jeans today are these black jeans from Wit and Wisdom (our favorite brand!). The good news is that they are fully stocked in petite sizing! The bad news is that the regular sizing is almost sold out. But don’t worry, Wit and Wisdom has several pairs of black jeans and you can find them all HERE (in varying styles and washes). In fact, this pair seems like it is nearly identical, and it is FULLY STOCKED in regular sizing!
And listen, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that every closet has a pair of great black jeans. They are classic, they can be worn year-round, and they are the easiest kind of jeans to dress up. For size reference, I’m wearing a 4Petite in these jeans. I’m 5’4″, and I’m still cuffing them by just turning up the hem. It does seem that this pair of black jeans is better suited for people 5’4″ and below.
I do want to mention my best black jeans tip here: Don’t wash them every single time you wear them.
In fact, unless they are dirty, I would estimate that I only wash mine about every 4-5 times I wear them. I’m able to keep them looking new and fresh by spreading out the washings! In between washings, I do turn them inside out and pop them in the dryer with a dryer sheet. This freshens them up and shrinks them back up if they’ve stretched out any.
cross body bag / bandana / black jeans (black jeans with better stock HERE)/ sneakers
These are my Dolce Vita sneakers from last year, and I’m still wearing the heck out of them. There are a few sizes left in these exact sneakers, but you can find all Dolce Sneakers currently available HERE.

I mean, perfect for spring.

OTHER JEAN OPTIONS
Okay, let’s check out some other jean options from Nordstrom! Nordstrom has several designer jean brands (like AG, Mother, Paige, etc). However, their lower priced jeans are AMAZING (and what I wear 98% of the time). All of the denim you see below is UNDER $100, and there is something for everybody! I’ve ordered the baby crop flare jeans for myself because I think they look so cute and I want to review them for y’all too.
1) ripped high waist mom jeans / 2) raw hem ankle jeans / 3) black jeans / 4) cream jeans / 5) boyfriend jeans / 6) raw hem baby bootcut jeans / 7) baby crop flare jeans / 8) butter slim fit jeans
And full disclosure, I ordered these jeans three weeks ago when I was preparing for this post AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM. I wanted so badly to make a HUGE DEAL about them on today’s post, but they sold out before I could even take pictures in them. I was soooo sad…but GUESS WHAT! THEY’RE BACK, BABY! And they are currently available in all sizes! I’ll highlight them next week on the blog, but I’m afraid they are going to sell out again, so grab them now if you think you like the style! As always, free shipping and free returns are one of the greatest things about shopping with Nordstrom…so we’re talking no risk if you want to try them!
This pair only has 5 reviews, but they are all 5 stars! The brand is Whetherly, which is new to me (and Nordstrom), and they have so many cute options!
So I’m interested, are you doing away with your skinny jeans? Or are you like me…adding in a new style or two, but hanging on tight to the skinny jeans that you know and love?!? And do you already have AND LOVE a denim jacket? Do you wear yours as much as I wear mine? Sound off in the comments!
A huge THANK YOU to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!

I have those black jeans (love them) and those DV sneakers (love them). Now I want that denim jacket and that last pair of jeans you showed. I’ve never heard of that brand either, but those jeans look awesome. I’ve been around forever, and I still have and still wear that first Kut denim jacket you talked about. It has served me well, and I’m sure this new one will too! Thanks for the recs!

JESSICA! I love hearing from people that have been around since the very beginning! Thanks for being such a loyal reader!!!! xoxo
Amy Coose says
Ordered 3 pair of jeans from your post, LOL. My wallet is going to be screaming. Which LV bag is this? Thanks for your styling help!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Amy! Haha! It’s called the Pochette Metis. I love it! xoxo
Cheriese says
I think skinny jeans are the most universally flattering and I’ll continue to wear mine as I love them! That said, I’ve had a pair of jeans very similar to the Whetherly for over a year (mine might be slimmer through the thighs) and I really like the style so I just ordered these as that’s a new brand to me.
Sheaffer says
Yep, skinny jeans till I die Cheriese! I hope you love the Whetherly jeans as much as I do! xoxo
Fran says
I too love my Kut from the Kloth denim jacket. I ordered it well after your intial reccommendation and in a different wash because I needed petite but wear it all the time. It is the best jacket ever and I will be looking for others that come in petite sizing. Your new one looks so cute on you! Kut and Kloth jackets are worth every penny even at full price. I love the cream denim too. Seems like it will be huge this year and I am glad that Wit and Wisdom hopped on the trend. They do make wonderful denim.
I am keeping my skinny jeans but adding some straighter leg openings as I can. I’m particularly interested in the straighter cuts or flares that you like in white and black. The kick crop or the cropped flare are my favorite right now but have to replace longer tops too (or tuck—Ughh) so going slowly.
As always, love your accessories on this post! I have purchased several of the earrings you have recommended, necklaces and bags too. Right now I am wearing the must have earrings by Gorjana. I agree with you that they are must haves.
Thank you for all you do! We appreciate you. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Fran! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a sweet and encouraging message! I appreciate YOU!!!! xoxo
Carol says
I have these exact black jeans in petite length (I’m limited on W&W, because so few styles come in petite), and I LOVE THEM. I wish I felt this good in every pair of pants I own. I swear I feel skinny in these!
Sheaffer says
Meeeeeeeeeee tooooooo, Carol! They are skinny makers! 🙂 xoxo
Amy brooks says
I love all the outfits you put together! Would you mind taking pictures of how the jeans fit on the back side? I always like to see the pocket placements and can’t tell from front pictures. Hope that doesn’t sound too creepy! lol! Thanks!!
Sheaffer says
Hey, Amy! I totally get this, and I’ve tried, but I can never get pictures I feel great about sharing! Haha! I think your best bet is going to be to see the pocket placement on the site. I realize this isn’t optimal because it’s placing on models, but it will at least give you an idea. Every time I try to get a good booty shot, it doesn’t work out. Haha! So sorry! xoxo
Jen says
Maybe I shouldn’t admit this but I have the Kut from the Kloth denim jacket in 4 washes and wear them all the time. I totally agree with you on the black jeans, only wash them after wearing them several times.
Sheaffer says
YESSSSSSSSSS, Jen!!!!! Best jackets ever! And HECK YES to black jeans (and only washing them very sparingly). 🙂 xoxo
Mary says
I am loving the straight jean look these days!! ❤️ And I have those cream jeans- they are super comfy and stretchy!! My new fav jeans are the Kut from the Kloth Rachel jeans- besides the cream ones, I have tan, and have camel and regular denim coming next week!! My new OBSESSION is that Kut green jacket—I have been looking at it forever it seems- need to “just do it”! Hope I don’t melt my credit card ? ? ?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Mary! I’m going to have to check out the other Rachel jean colors! xoxo
