I’ve never tried on these exact JOLT jeans, but I’m either a 5 or 7, most times a 7 in Junior’s sizing. If you like the idea of black jeans, but aren’t sure how much you will wear them, these are a great price point to try!
When I first received my blanket scarf, I started with a graphic.
studs HERE/ cushion cut bracelet c/o HERE / gold spike bracelet HERE / similar watch HERE
similar frye boots HERE
And after I made the graphic, I wore the outfit. The scarf MADE the outfit. Obviously. |
Oh…something I didn’t write in the graphic….
When I wear a blanket scarf, I usually wear a pony tail. It just makes things easier.
And here’s what you need to know about blanket scarves….once you learn how to tie one, you’ll want to wear it all the time. Here I am wearing it with a waterfall cardi and over the knee boots!
After the scarf is cut, notice the different in the bulkiness, particularly around the neck.
And I’ve worn both of these scarves several times after cutting them, and they haven’t unraveled!

I hope y’all learned something today in Scarves 101.
Please feel free to leave a review of the seminar in the comments. 😉
See y’all Friday!

I've become such a fan of your blog since I discovered it a few months ago, and you've helped improve my wardrobe so many times. One quick tip (from someone who used to sew a lot) if you're cutting a scarf that you're concerned might ravel, try picking up a pair of pinking shears and use those instead of regular scissors… they'll leave a small zig-zag edge BUT go a long way to prevent unravelling. : )

Oh girl! This post made my heart oh so happy!

Love the scarf tip but I'm afraid I will do it all wrong and really ruin the scarf!

LOVE the scarf thing tips!! So perfect!!

Early in the season last year, I purchased a couple blanket-type scarves and found that although I put them on several times, I never ended up leaving the house with them because I found them to be too voluminous on me. Last year, I finally decided to cut them in half and they have since become my favorite scarves to wear. (Bonus for my sister who has the benefit of receiving the other half of each scarf).
I had done this with the scarves that were rectangular in shape, so it was easy enough to fringe the edge to match the original edge of the scarf. I have one square blanket scarf that remains uncut (and unworn). I'm not sure if the edge will fringe correctly (to match the original edge) by cutting it diagonally, but I am definitely cutting that baby in half tonight!

Thanks for the scarf tips! I need that red and tan tartan scarf!

This post was super helpful! And made me want a blanket scarf because anything "blanket" just sounds so cozy on these chilly days!!
Diana says
Go for it! You won't regret cutting it! I was afraid too so I bought the cheapest $5 scarf and cut it…best scarf ever! Don't worry about the ravel…I actually pulled threads on the cut side to give it the fringy look like the other. Perfect! You can do it!

I can't imagine cutting my blanket scarves in half!! But this is cute!! Love the green plaid scarf!!

I just love scarves!! I've been known to be called the "scarf queen" because I wear them ALL THE TIME! Thanks for your step-by-step directions for tying the blanket scarf because I have only wore mine one way (triangle then wrap two ends opposite around the neck). Great post!
Three Gals and a Guy says
Oh em gee. The cutting of the blanket scarf- genius!! Not gonna lie- a little scared about doing it but I'm on the short side- 5'2, on a good day and so sometimes blanket scarves can overwhelm my frame, so this seems like a perfect solution!! Thanks for sharing!

Will AC give offer a coupon code to shop online since I can't make your open house (when I live in TN)??
Sheaffer says
I think so Amy! I've asked, and I'm waiting to hear back! I'm hoping Monday I'll have one! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Thank you!!

I did it, I cut my blanket scarf in half this morning after reading your post! Total. Game. Changer. My scarf is rectangular, and although I really liked it, I was never comfortable wearing it. The scarf was just too bulky and cumbersome. I made numerous attempts to style my scarf, but nothing worked until this morning…I am wearing a white t-shirt, gray boyfriend cardigan, cognac boots, and (half of) my blanket scarf-super cute!! Thank you!

Thanks Sheaffer!! I am excited to try this look out with my blanket scarf! 🙂

Bought a blanket scarf last year and ended up cutting it in half at your suggestion. I'm just too short and can't put my hair in a ponytail either. Bought 2 more this year when AC had 25% off with PTMT code. Gave one to my best friend for her birthday and told her to cut it if necessary. She absolutely loved the scarf and said she got several compliments on it at her son's college football game. It was the team color of blue…happy accident! Said a girl behind her had the tan tartan plaid one on! She's taller than I so no need to cut it in half. Was really hoping she would so I could have the other half ?

Any style tips for the long rectangular blanket scarves? I may have 4 or 5 of them!

I just stumbled on your blog a very short time ago but in that short time it has become my very favorite blog. Ever. You are just so adorable! And have helped this fashion challenged girl tremendously! I love the idea of cutting the blanket scarf in half. Brilliant! But having only one, I'm a little gun shy. I think I will definitely have to go out and find the cheapest one I can find and have at it. Anxiously waiting for more tips!!
Turner says
Hi there! PTMTCLASSIC didn't work for me . Is it still valid? Must. Have. Scarf.
Thanks!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Turner! It is still valid, but it only works on that red plaid scarf. Is that the one you are trying to use it on? xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Turner says
Thanks so much for clarifying! I wanted to buy the black plaid one.
Jennifer Jackson says
Okay, so I've tried for over an hour to tie my blanket scarf…trouble is it isn't a square, it's a rectangle so I can't fold it into a triangle. Suggestions??
Sheaffer says
Hi Jennifer! Hmmm…all of my blanket scarves are rectangles. So what makes yours a blanket scarf? Even though it's a rectangle is it still really over-sized? If so, I would think you might want to consider cutting it too, just right down the middle. Maybe the decrease in bulk will also make it easier to style?!? Wish I could help more! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

If you're worried about your scarf unraveling, buy some Fray Check. You can find it at fabric stores or at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Dritz-1674-Liquid-Sealant-0-75-Ounce/dp/B000YQKIDY It's sort of like clear nail polish. It seals the seam and is invisible as well as washable or dry cleanable. I use it all the time when I make Halloween costumes and don't want to hem them.

Girl!!!! Life changing! Seriously. I have this constant problem with blanket scarves because I LOVE them, but I feel like I can't see over them when I put them on. Lol. But THIS is so crazy that I haven't thought of it before. I may have to muster up some courage and just cut one of them just to see the difference. Thanks for your directions on how to tie it. I understood it the first time I read it!

Life changing! Just cut two of mine this morning and haven't looked back. I think I will wear them MORE! I threw them in the dryer with 2 wool balls and it fringed the cut end a little bit and it is perfect. So easy and looks so good! I am 5'10" and thin. The blanket scarf was way too much bulk for me. So happy I did this!! Thank you!
Rachel says
I did it!! I cut my blanket scarf, and it's exactly the same, less bulk!! Yay!! Thank you!!

It has taken me weeks to work up the courage…I just cut my blanket scarf. Is saying I feel like a new woman being too dramatic?! 🙂 thx for the tip!

Life-changing! I just trimmed two of mine this morning and haven’t regretted it. I might even wear them more now! Tossed them in the dryer with two wool balls, and it fringed the cut end a bit—perfect. It’s so easy and looks fantastic! I’m 5’10” and thin, and the blanket scarf was too bulky for me. So glad I made this change! Thank you! https://www.kingkind.co
