Hi Sugarplum | 2020 Resort Collection

Y’ALL!  IT’S LIVE!  It’s FINALLY LIVE!

My friend Cassie’s line, the Gibson x Hi Sugarplum Resort Collection, is now available at Nordstrom!!!  Let that sink in.  I can’t even believe it.   And I really can’t believe it’s her 5th full collection with Gibson AND NORDSTROM!  I’ve loved all 5 of her collections, and I even noticed yesterday that my very favorite piece from her first resort collection is available again.  I have it in 3 colors, and I still plan on wearing all 3 this year.  It was one of my GO TO items last Spring and Summer, and it will be this year as well!

She’s worked so hard on this new collection for many months, making sure that everything would be perfect. I’m SO PROUD of her and SO EXCITED about all of the cute new pieces in my closet!

Here’s what you need to know…

There are 11 pieces, and everything is DARLING.  And not just kind of darling.  SERIOUSLY DARLING.  We’re talking gorgeous and happy colors, fun prints, and oh so pretty feminine details.  Also of importance…the colors are cohesive throughout the collection.  The reds match, the blues match, etc.  This makes for easy mixing and matching, which is a lot of fun and incredibly cost effective too!  It also makes packing a breeze if you’re taking the pieces on a trip because you can get so many outfits out of a small number of pieces.

I’m only highlighting a handful of pieces today, but Cassie is in every single piece ON THE NORDSTROM SITE, so you can head to the landing page to check all of the pieces out and see what every single one of the pieces look like on her.  And just a heads up, if history is any indication, popular sizes will sell out quickly.  All of the pieces come in regular and petite, and many pieces in the collection come in plus size too!

I’m telling you, the entire collection is AMAZING.

I love it all, but there are a handful of pieces that I was particularly drawn to.  I’m so excited to feature my favorites with y’all today!

Let’s kick it off with this adorable look that’s made up of separates.  I know it looks like a dress here, but the look is actually made up of an off the shoulder top and a tiered maxi skirt.  They are cute worn separately (as you’ll see later in the post), but I really love them together!

The fabric is soooooo soft and feels great on, and the soft pleats and tiers are so pretty and feminine.

I’m wearing a medium in the top and I love the fit.  However, if I didn’t need extra room in the chest, a small would have been good.  I’m wearing a medium in the skirt as well, but I actually think I would prefer the fit of the small.  If wearing with flat sandals, my 5’4″ frame would need the petite sizing.

The trim on the top is so much fun!  It comes in 2 other colorways, and you will see those later in the post too.

I prefer to wear the blouse off the shoulder, but it’s also made to be worn 1 shoulder as well if you prefer it that way. I love the versatility.  And for those of you that prefer to wear tops like this ON the shoulder, that’s also possible!  Sometimes that doesn’t work because of proportions, but it does work with this top!

And of course, if you need a great strapless bra, this is the one I HIGHLY recommend.  If you’re new here, I swear by this bra and even wear it when a strapless bra isn’t required.  The support is great, I never have to pull it up, and it’s so dang comfortable.

And let’s talk about the bracelets for a sec since you are going to be seeing them throughout today’s post.  I dedicated an entire post to them back in October that I called “FALL FUN”, but I’m just as excited to wear them in Winter, Spring, and Summer.  I’m telling you, they make just about every outfit better!

I love the set above with the long tiered skirt, but look how cute the top is with the drawstring shorts too!  And just like with the skirt, the shorts are super cute worn without the matching top.

We’re going to talk sizing, but my sizing recommendations are complicated for the shorts.  I’m wearing a medium in the shorts, but the mediums were definitely too big on me.  In this picture, I have the waistband turned down and they are taken in a bit in the back with a roller clip too.  I’m 5’4″, and based on the fit of the mediums on me, I actually think I would prefer a petite small.  I’m ordering them this morning!

I love how easy breezy these shorts are!  You just pull them on, tie the drawstring in a bow, and you’re ready to go.  Talk about easy to wear!

If you prefer separates, look how cute the top is with my favorite denim shorts!  It would also be cute with white jeans, a denim skirt, ankle jeans, etc.

When wearing the top as a separate, it can be worn out (it has side slits), but y’all know that I prefer a 1/2 tuck.

Do y’all remember my favorite denim shorts that I first started wearing a couple of summers ago?  WELL.  They are still my favorite shorts.  Sadly, they are sold out at Nordstrom (unless you are a size 24), but I found them on Amazon!!!  If you don’t have these shorts yet, get them before them are gone on Amazon too.  I’m telling you, they are the perfect distressed denim shorts! I’m not even kidding when I tell you I wear them at least 3 days a week during the summer.  And if we’re being totally honest, I probably wear them more like 5 days a week. True to size, I’m wearing a 27.

And the third and final colorway of this off the shoulder top is a bright white with a pretty blue trim.  I MEAN.  HELLO, BEACH VACATION.  Love it with my denim shorts, and it too would be awesome with white jeans!  There’s also a tiered maxi skirt meant to go with it as well.

Another one of my very favorite pieces in the collection is this great little slub pocket tee.  It’s simple, but it’s awesome.

It comes in red, white, and a black and white stripe. I got and love all 3.  The cap sleeves and the scoop neck are t-shirt perfection, and I like the cute little pocket too.

I sized up to a medium, and I really like the relaxed fit.  However, I would think that most of you will want to stick with your regular size.

The tees can be mixed and matched in the collection as well.  It looks great with the floral drawstring shorts, and you know me, I often love to throw a denim jacket on top.

Let’s talk about the fabric first, even though I’m afraid I can’t adequately describe how soft it is. IT’S CRAZY AND WONDERFULLY SOFT, it actually feels cool to the touch, and the colors and patterns are gorgeous!  Oh, AND IT HAS POCKETS!

Now, I’m sad to report that this dress didn’t fit me right.  It was too tight in the chest, and too big around the hips.  Normally I just wouldn’t show a piece that didn’t fit me, but I’m confident that this dress will be amazing on many of y’all.  The fabric, the colorway options, the way it flows, the pockets….all reasons that this will probably end up being the favorite from the entire collection for some.  I would say that busty gals might have difficulty with this dress, but I don’t want to make that generalization.  I have a friend that is very butsy, but she’s got a small rib cage and small waist…and I think this dress would look amazing on her!  I also have a tall friend who is pretty flat chested, and I think this would look great on her too.  And I’m happy they are offering petites for those under 5’4″.

So even though it didn’t work on my body, give this dress a try if you have a flatter chest/smaller rib cage.  It’s soooo pretty.  AND DID I MENTION SOFT?  #becauseitissooooooooosoft

This outfit could be great for so many occasions!  I I changed bags, I’d even wear it to church.

I would be buying and wearing all of the pieces in the entire collection even if a dear friend wasn’t responsible for them, but the fact that she is just makes my heart swell with pride.  I can’t wait till I get the first compliment when I’m out and about around town.  You can better believe I’ll be like “RIGHT????  MY FRIEND!!!!!  SHE DID THIS!”

If you don’t have a vacation soon, you probably need to book one.  But even if you have nowhere to go, you can just be adorable while grabbing lunch with a friend, going on a date night with your man, headed to a bridal shower for a friend, etc. That’s my plan, anyway!  And I don’t know how I missed this when grabbing my pieces, but I went ahead and ordered this dress this morning in the blue and white stripe and the solid red.   I’m so excited to get them both, but the plan is to only keep 1.  We’ll see how that goes.  I can’t say no to the split neck, drawstring waist, and pockets.  I think it will be cute with wedges, flat sandals, and even Converse.  And you know I’ll throw a denim jacket over it too.
