But you probably don’t understand the depth of my love unless you have a pair yourself.
And if you have them, I’m going to just go ahead and assume that you love them as much as I do.
We should probably form some sort of club.
Some sort of Crazy Ladies Who Love Wellies Club.
I will be the VP.
Shay is the President, she is the one who introduced me to them after all.
And our friend Andrea (who is a middle school math teacher) is going to be the Treasurer.
Because, duh.
And since se is full on obsessed with her boots, she gets 2 officer positions.
She’s also going to be the social chair too because she’s perfect for it.
Andrea, you need to plan some Welly outings for us.
Maybe we can go to the park when it’s raining or something?
Anyhoo.
I got to wear my beloved boots last week for the first time in a sweet forever, and I was pumped.
What’s that you say local weatherman?
There’s a slight chance of rain?
Good enough for me.
There’s going to be a torrential downpour?
BRING IT.
But if it’s really raining, I just feel SMART.
😉
Here’s the main thing you need to know about Hunter boots:
THEY ARE WORTH THE MONEY.
Period.
They really REALLY are.
I know it’s hard to get over the sticker shock of $140, but when it’s raining, and your feet are dry AND warm AND fashionable….well, they are worth their weight in gold.
When I bought mine, I didn’t know how much I would really wear them, which is why I totally cringed at the price tag. (And why I waited so long to order them.)
WHEN I THINK OF ALL THE RAINY DAYS I HAD WET FEET, I feel ashamed. 😉
They have 189 5 STAR reviews at Nordstrom.
THAT is incredible.
Here’s just one:
even when the sun is shining! THEY ARE DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY! You
can wear them all year round!!! These boots never go out of style.
Here’s a collage that will make you yearn for your own pair.

Let us know!
So, that’s it for today.
Are you now finding yourself dreaming of your very own pair of Wellies?
I will promise you this:
If you don’t get yourself a pair, the next time it rains, you will be kicking yourself.
And if you do get them, the next time it rains you will be high-fiving yourself.
So, what’s it gonna be?
🙂

As President of the Crazy Ladies Who Love Wellies Club, I think you did an OUTSTANDING job describing how every girl NEEDS to own a pair! Right now, I'm thinking I need a third pair, right? A bright cherry red pair? I should really move somewhere where it rains more than 4 times a year…
Kelly says
So glad you did a post on these! They are first on my Christmas list… still struggling on the color, I was thinking purple?
Meredith Anna says
I have been wanting a pair of wellies for months! I think you convinced me to take the plunge (and I'm thinking so after my feet were wet in the rain yesterday) I take your advice on everything else, so why not these!
Anonymous says
I agree with every single thing you said. I bought my first pair last year, and I've loved them so much that I am getting a 2nd pair. I got black last year (and love the versatility of my black pair), but now I'm going to get the red. Can't wait!
Linda says
Where did you get the tank or tshirt that you have on? Love the length of the tank …. also the wellies… and the blog. 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi Linda! I got it YEARS ago (like probably 5 years ago) from LOFT. Tried to find a similar one to link to, and I couldn't. Sorry!
xoxo,
Sheaffer 😉
Sarah E @ theteacherswife.com says
That was my exact question too! LOVE the length of it!
Sandra says
Ahh, I should have read through the comments before I asked the same question too! Please just disregard my post below! 😉

I love the hunter wellies, but don't have a pair. I have a cheaper from (from Gap!) that has leaked in bad rain. But as I read your blog on a rainy morning in SC…I'm thinking I need a pair! The hardest question, what color? I love your blog Sheaffer, I don't remember seeing any maternity posts? I'm pregnant with my first, and I'm just starting to show. I have no idea what to wear, how to dress, can you help?! Thanks!
Christie says
I live in MN and have matte black Huntress boots, due to my muscular calves. Anyway, even with the boot liners, which you must have if you want to keep warm, they are too loose in the ankle/heal area. That doesn't mean I don't wear them, of course. Anyway, Nordstrom had these adorable pink rain flats from Hunter that I bought last year. Adorable!
Blue-Eyed Bride says
I got my purple Hunter wellies almost five years ago and I absolutely love them! But now I'm dying for a black or classic army green pair! Need!
Erika says
I have the classic green color which I just love, they go with everything! And I also wear them in the snow with the cozy hunter cable socks 🙂
MonaK2 says
I have a silly question – if you wear rain boots, do you wear them all day or do you bring regular shoes to change into when you get to work/school? I am also in Texas (Houston) and it would be too hot to wear them all day 9 months out of the year here, so I am trying to understand the Wellies boot craze! LOL And, I have the Must Have Denim Jacket – LOVE!! It goes with everything and I am so glad you told us about it!!
Sheaffer says
Hi Mona! I wear the boots all day long. However, if you work in an office where that is not appropriate, then I would just change into appropriate shoes after arriving! Hope this helps!

Sheaffer 🙂

the first thing I noticed was your outfit!! I love the bright yellow pants and the navy shirt, and the length of the shirt is amazing- where did you find the shirt? I'm asking for Hunter boots for Christmas; my original plan was that I wanted them for my birthday in July, but hubby bought me jewelry instead and you know, can't complain about that one! Also, you and Shay have gotten in my head and in my dreams! I dreamt last night that y'all decided to do a "Shopping with Shay and Sheaffer" with one of your blog readers…. so naturally, you surprised me and took me shopping. And, then in real life, the baby woke me up, so I have no idea what I should have bought. Oh well, but I think it would be a super fun idea for you to take a random blog reader shopping with you! Finally, did you buy the boot inserts ? socks? to wear with your boots?

Proud member of the Nashville delegation of the Crazy Ladies Who Love Wellies Club! Got to wear my tall dark grey gloss Hunters for the first time this season yesterday!! Whoo hoo! I actually tried on the snake skin ones last year. They are super cute in person and do have a cool texture. Something about the black toe threw me off though. Hunters are super warm, I agree . . . . . so while they are comfy enough to wear all day, sometimes when I'm inside I find my feet a little hot, which is strange since I am always cold.
Shelby says
I just got the boots in Dark Ruby about a month ago, and I love them!! I was thinking this berry color would brighten up jewel-toned outfits while still being kind of classic, and so far I have been very right!! My husband thinks I'm a crazy Wellie lady for sure, so I had to show him this post so that he knows I'm not the only one! ha! 🙂
Meredith says
Do you have any ideas for cheaper knock off options? I love the hunters but just can't afford them right now. I even tried on the kids ones to because I can wear some kids shoes, but they were a little too short. Thanks,
Sheaffer says
Hi Meredith! I don't have any recommendations at this time, but I will be on the look out! In the past, I bought 2 different pairs at Target that were cute, but they were very uncomfortable. The rubber didn't give enough and my ankles were sore by the end of the day. And I too tried the kid's version at one point, but you're right…..they were just too short!
Susan Jeffries says
I am in love with Hunter boots!! I love the black, olive, hot pink…heck all of them!! Thanks for this fab post!! Susan
Sarah E @ theteacherswife.com says
These are downright adorable! What color would you recommend for ones first pair of Wellies? I love the bold colors, but I'm afraid it would limit my outfit options. Love this post!

I have had a major fashion crush on these boots for months! My ONLY hesitation in making them mine is that some of the reviews I have read say that they don't hold up well and start to crack after only a season of wear. I don't need them to be the boots I meet my grandchildren in, but for the price, I would like at least a few seasons of wear out of them. Thoughts????
Sheaffer says
Hi there! Hmmm….I haven't seen the unfavorable reviews. Everything I read sings their praises. I have 2 friends that have had theirs for several years (one has had them over 5 years), and she commented just this morning that hers still look good as new! Hope this helps!

I have the short red pair and love them!!! Just bought the tall black for my trip to Seattle…woohoo!!! CA UTE!! And comfy!!
Shelby Allen says
Reading your post makes me REALLY want a pair of Wellies. I have a cheap pair of Target Rain boots, but I know they just aren't that great. However… My biggest problem with boots is that I have a wider calf. I am finally realizing that all those Calf Raises and exercises I did as a High School Athlete have come around to bite my rear. I have a hard time with most tall boots fitting me, which is really sad because I just love boot season! Do you know if Wellies come in a wider calf version or of any brands that do?
Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
Oh how I'd love a pair of those Wellies. It really does need to rain more in Texas! But then again, I'd have frizzy hair all the time. Frizzy hair vs. cute boots. Hmm, that's a tough one! LOVE those stretch cords and plan on getting a pair very soon.
Liz says
Love love love your outfit! One question, I didn't see where your shirt was from. Did I miss it? Can you re-link me? 🙂 Thanks!
Tiffany {A Touch of Grace} says
Love the shirt. Love the whole outfit! I really REALLY want a pair of Hunters (probably the cherry red ones) but I already have a pair of $100 rain boots and the hubby says I don't need another pair. I beg to differ since we live in Seattle where it rains ALL THE TIME, but no convincing him yet. I'll keep working on him. And I sent him your post today….just another little nudge in the right direction. 🙂

LOVE your outfit in this post….one of my favs…so cute and casual yet chic! Those Wellies are so cute! I don't have a pair but just maybe you have convinced me!!!

Ahh I have thought about putting Hunter rain boots on my Christmas/Birthday lists for probably the past three years. For some reason I guess I just have a special place in my heart for my Target pair haha. Maybe I'll cave this year since those are some VERY cute colors.
Also, for mustard colored skinnies, I recently purchased these ones: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-super-skinny-velvet-pants/id_247154. Great quality and they're a major steal now too!

Those boots are so so cute!!!! do they make your feet hot???
CourtinFL says
Love my Hunter Boots, just put them on to run to pick up the little one from school. Silly story, while visiting our house in SC, my friend "accidentally" switched my glossy navy-blue pair for her glossy black pair. She (and I) are very fortunate that it was such an equal trade.
Jenna S. says
Got a fashion question–if you wear navy and grey–can you wear gold accessories or should it be silver? Thanks, and I so want a pair of the Hunter boots–they are on my list for next year!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jenna! I would definitely wear gold!!!!!

My husband gave me a gift card to purchase a pair last Christmas, which I promptly did! My first time wearing them was in New Orleans (with skinny jeans and a cute blouse). It rained all day long during our first day there. The boots were PERFECT!!! Super comfortable, super stylish AND super functional…PERFECTION! I actually mentioned to my husband that I might bring these Wellies with me to New Orleans every time I visit. If you've ever been, you know just how icky the streets can be and just how handy these boots would be! Great post!

Can I just talk about your outfit Sheaffer posted of you in your wellies, Andrea??? Oh mercy–that is ADORABLE!!! I mean I totally want to wear some pink tights and yellow boots with a green jacket and floral scarf…PRESH!!!!!!!!
Kristin says
Genius post! Everyone needs to listen to Sheaffer and invest in some Hunter wellies. I can totally second everything she is saying. I bought my first pair (in high gloss pink!) 5 years ago when I started college in Seattle. We all know you need rainboots in Seattle. Anyway, I just bought a new pair last week in black (not high gloss). I think my pink ones from 5 years ago may have a crack in them? I can't seem to locate where though, but the last time I wore them, my socks did get wet 🙁 But I'd definitely say 5 years of almost every day use for 3+ months was well-worth the price!
Meredith says
Love, love the boots. Sigh. Now I know what's going on my wish list for Christmas!
Katrin says
Wellies have been on my Christmas list, but I am not sure I can wait that long:). I got the Sam Edelman leopard flats today and love them. My four year old daughter said as I was walking ahead of her " Mommy your cheetah shoes are really fast"
Jenna {Real Simple Girl} says
I have adored the Hunter boots for a while! I just haven't been able to break down and spend that much for a pair. I have a similar black pair that I bought at Kohl's a couple years ago. They actually have a gray sweater knit at the top, so it looks like it's cable-knit socks sticking up out of the boots. But the dang things are so clunky and heavy, and I guess I've been afraid that the Hunters might be, too. I'll have to try on a pair sometime!
Heather Ann says
Love my Wellies! I have been wearing them since I was in high school! My most current pair are Navy Blue… I got them before all the fun colors came out, but I love them with all the fun Welly Socks. I would buy more pairs but we don't get a lot of rain here and I am obsessed with Frye boots and tend to put my money there 😉
ozwantstorun says
I NEED some wellies. I think I would go with red. In my mind red goes with everything. It is the perfect accent color and would be fun on rainy dreary days.
Kim Kauffman says
I told my husband I wanted a pair of these for Christmas and he about choked when I told him the price. He told me to go down to Bi-mart and buy a pair of rubber boots for $10. Thanks, but no. I'm pretty sure I can convince him though, considering we get rain for 8 months out of the year. My biggest issue is which color to get!
ceekay2 says
I love, love Hunter boots! They are $160 here in Canada just a wee bit more than the US, but worth every penny! I recently wrote a post about rain boots, too – see it here: http://50daysofnogrey.wordpress.com/2013/09/30/these-boots-were-made-for/
Love your blog & all the great ideas!

It's a pouring rain gray day in Seattle, what to do? Oh, go to nordstrom and buy Hunter rain boots? DONE!! Thanks Sheaffer for giving me a nudge 🙂

I love these boots! Have you tried the Hunter Tour packable boots? I was wondering which you prefer?

I have not ever tried on the packable boots. I'm guessing they are a little lighter and a little more flimsy. If anybody else knows please comment!

If I wear mostly 9, sometimes 8 1/2, do you think that I'd need mine in an 8 or 9? Decided on the glossy blacks!

Hi Rachel!
I think I would go with the 9….especially if you are ever planning wearing warm socks with them. Hope this helps!

Well last year about this time I was just thinking I needed a pair. I added them to my Christmas list. I decided at the time to go with the "Nordstrom exclusive" which was the turquoise. I opened them at Christmas and fell in love. Yet I was having a hard time justifying them (even though they were a gift). I googled the boots and saw women wearing them with EVERYTHING. It wasnt even raining and people were wearing them! Cute outfits, sunny skies. So I thought, ok, MAYBE. Then I was worried I had the wrong size. I mean, they are so pricey, what if they hurt my feet? So I went to Nordstrom and explained my hesitancy. I had the NICEST sales lady help me out. She got me another size, we tried on the boot socks. She was awesome. (I had my kids with me too). All that to say, she convinced me that what I had was perfect. So I went home a happy customer and havent looked back. I can honestly say I wear them WAY more than I thought I would. I had to laugh at your post, "Slight chance of rain, you bet!" "torrential downpour? Bring it!" That's EXACTLy the way I feel. I totally change my outfit if I notice its going to rain. But I also dont hesitate to throw the Hunters on with anything.
I have some foot problems and have to be careful with shoes. I put an athletic insole in them and now they are SO comfortable. I also bought a fleece liner. My fav outfit in the snowy/rainy winter months is leggings with my lined boots. SO warm and really adorable if I do say so myself! I'm thinking about asking for the cable knit liner for my birthday. A girl needs options!
Thanks for the fun post and for making me feel valid in all of my feelings! HA! I'm glad you have started a club for all of us!
Becky Norton says
Quick question for you about boots. Do you put anything on new boots before you wear them? I'm wondering if there is a spray or something I should use on my taupe Tom's booties and even my new leather riding boots. Any suggestions?! Love this post, I'd love to receive any must have item! 😉
Rachel says
I just saw Hunter's for the first time in an actual store, and I was surprised at how heavy they are. I definitely imagine that they're pretty much indestructible, but they haven't completely won me over yet.

Hi, I am wondering about the blue shirt you are wearing in the above post! Where did you get it? I love that it is so long! I hope I'm just not missing it but I read through again and I do not see mention of the shirt. 🙂 Thanks!

After buying a few pairs of non-Hunter wellies, I finally bought myself a genuine pair of teal Hunters! They are totally worth the price, I agree! I wear mine all through the year, with those fuzzy socks in the winter time 🙂

I just ordered my first pair of hunter boots thanks to this blog!! I've held out so long because for $140 I need to love something and I wasn't sure. I received a FF25%off from Saks and was debating getting a pair, but while trying to decide on a color I came across your blog. I saw the 25% ShopBop post and took a look. To my delight they had the 2 pairs of the moss green in my size left! 25% off + 2 day shipping using my amazon prime account + some birthday cash= one happy soon to be hunter boot owner!! I love this blog!

I just ordered my first pair of red hunter boots, I haven't even got them yet but so excited can't wait to wear them. I'm in Texas so not sure how often I can wear them but I hope a lot.
