Listen up.
This is your pilot talking.
I’m about to share some very important information with you.
How important?
Like JUST AS important as my Public Service Announcement about the
Callisto putty colored wedges.
Yes.
THAT important.
I know.
I’m going to let the weight of all this sink in.
THIS denim jacket should be needs to be HAS TO BE IN YOUR CLOSET.
Sorry that I yelled.
I just need to make sure that you are really listening.
I mean…are you dying at the cuteness?!?!?

Did you hear me?
Buy it now.
Here’s the story behind my find:
I was at the mall on Friday (shocking, I know) with my bestie Lisa. We met for the kids to play, and I was taking something back and not even planning on shopping (but I really should know myself better than that, shouldn’t I). I was at the counter making my return and minding my own business when the heavens parted and a light shown down on this jacket.
Okay, so maybe it didn’t happen just like that, but pretty much.
I was seriously just standing at the counter when a darling little sales girl walked right in front of me and hung this jacket on a round rack right by the counter. The sign on the rack said “Final Few”.
I literally took the jacket out of her hands, put it on my body, we all “oohd and aahhd” over it, and then I ripped off the tag, handed it to the lady behind the register, and declared
“I’m gonna go ahead and leave this on.”
I pretty much wanted to marry this jacket…after only knowing it like 23 seconds.
Shay wasn’t with me, so I of course felt the need to call her immediately and tell her about my
denim jacket good fortune.
The conversation went something like this…
me: “Shay. I just bought the best denim jacket ever. You are going to die. And you need one. Now.”
Shay: “What? A denim jacket? Really?”
Doubter.
me: “Shay. I’m telling you. You need it. I promise. Sending you a pic now.”
This is a screenshot of our texts.
Did you see what happened just there?
Let me break it down for you.
Shay caught one glimpse of the jacket, and she didn’t even care how much it cost.
She just wanted me to get one for her. Immediately.
This is why we’re friends.
You guys.
It truly is the PERFECT denim jacket.
And I don’t just throw around the term “PERFECT”.
I give the word the respect it deserves.
The queso at Matt’s Ranchero Martinez? Perfect.
My child’s eyelashes? Perfect.
Shawshank Redemption? Perfect.
That’s about it.
Oh wait.
And THIS denim jacket.
So, just in case I haven’t made you a believer yet….I thought I would kick it up a notch.
So I called my friend Andrea (who designed this blog).
I conveyed to her my excitement about my new jacket (there might have been some good-natured yelling, some “you just don’t even know how perfect this jacket is”, and a near hyperventilation), and I insisted that things I could this excited about need a special seal of approval.
So she created a graphic.
Read it. Believe it.
I’m only going to use this particular seal of approval when I’m featuring an item that I truly believe is a MUST HAVE for everybody.
THIS jacket is a must have.
Trust.
I’ve been blogging now for 9 months, and I’ve only had 2 other items that I would have bestowed this “MUST HAVE” sale alert on.
A pair of boots from Nordstrom
(that I’m crossing my fingers will return this year in all colors and sizes)….
and OF COURSE the putty wedges (HERE)!
I’ve highlighted hundreds (maybe even thousands) of items over the last 9 months,
but only these 3 would have been worthy of this alert.
I’m telling you, I am going to reserve this for only the top like 5% of items I highlight.
Which mean you might only see this alert 6 or so times a year.
My fabulous oatmeal blazer (click HERE for all blazer posts) my military jacket (not available anymore), my neutral TOMS, my sequin bracelets (click HERE to read my bracelet posts) and my Kimberly necklace are my other tip top items and I ADORE them all,
but even they wouldn’t have received the MUST HAVE title.
I mean business y’all.
Only the best of the best will get this “Must Have” seal attached to it.
Back to my case for the jacket.
I have had a denim jacket from Loft in my closet for a sweet forever.
Years and years ago I used to wear it all the time.
(I like to think I looked especially awesome when I paired it with my broomstick skirt.)
It was just a standard denim jacket, yet each and every time I went to put it on recently, I ended up taking it off. I didn’t necessarily feel like it was dated, but it just never looked great on me.
Well….after having my new jacket, I can tell you the old jacket was TOTALLY dated,
I just didn’t realize it.
I liked the idea of a jean jacket with so many of my outfits, but I just didn’t like my jacket anymore.
So, I’ve had my eyes peeled for a new one. I’ve tried on several over the last couple of months at LOFT, GAP, and J Crew Factory…
but they were never quite right.
I had almost given up on my need for a new one.
Too dark.
Too stiff.
Too heavy.
Too boxy.
Too long.
Too short.
Too blue.
Too pockety.
(let’s all just act like “pockety” is a word.)
But not THIS jacket, no m’am.
THIS jacket was just right.
I’m like a modern day Goldilocks.
What’s that?
You don’t think you need a denim jacket?
Well, I respectfully beg to differ.
I would like to present Exhibits A-L.
Holy Cuteness!
And even if you already have a denim jacket, if it’s from more than 2 years ago, I would like to gently suggest that maybe your denim jacket needs an update.
So here’s what’s gonna happen.
You are going to buy this jacket.
The only question is WHEN are you going to buy this jacket.
Are you going to grab the fashion bull by the horns and buy it now?
I would like to politely throw it out there that you go ahead and just get it now. 🙂
Especially since it has already been phased out of the store.
(I got it on what Nordstrom calls the “Final Few” rack, and there was only 1 additional jacket at Stonebriar last week so you most probably aren’t going to be able to find it in stores. AND..if they are being phased out of the store, and not re-stocked, I’m assuming that they aren’t going to be re-stocking online either. So, get while the gettin’ is good ladies!!!! )
As of this morning, all sizes were available.
(I’m 5’4″ and I got a small. I normally wear smalls and I like the way this one fits. Several of the reviews say to buy up one size, so read the reviews and decide for yourself. I’m glad I didn’t buy up. I really like how mine is fitted, and it’s not like I am ever going to be buttoning this jacket.)
If you look at the model, it looks like she might have gone up a size.
I like the close fit of mine better.
One of the most delightful things about THIS jacket is that it has some stretch in it.
It is also much lighter weight than you would expect.
(Two of the people that I made put it on immediately commented on how it was so light.
Jackie (shout out Jackie!) even said,
“Oh, you could totally wear this all summer instead of a cardigan.”
Yes, Jackie. Yes you could. And I will.
I think the close fit is what makes it more modern and why I love it so much.
That is what was wrong with my previous jacket. It was just too dang boxy.
And it was too blue, if that makes any sense.
I also love that THIS jacket is a light color because that makes it very easy to wear all year long.
Am I going to wear it to the pool or the park this summer? No.
Am I going to wear it to the mall, out to eat, to the movies, etc. all summer long? Um, yes. Constantly.
And I want you to notice something.
Most of my posts have lots and lots of goodness highlighted.
For example, when showing my oatmeal blazer, I linked to several other options in case you didn’t like mine for some reason. Same thing with my military jacket. I gave you lots of options.
That’s not going to happen now. Not today.
Nope.
You get 1 link.
One.
Link.
It’s all you need.
I’ve already done my due diligence before picking this jacket.
I’ve tried on TONS and TONS of jacket.
THIS.
This is the jacket.
It will become a staple in your wardrobe for the entire year.
Promise.
Click it.
Buy it.
Wear it.
Love it.
Send me a message thanking me for my recommendation.

I love my jean jacket & thank you for the outfit inspiration pics!
A question I've been pondering lately is, how long is too long to wear individual articles of clothing. I'm realizing that I have quite a few pieces that I've been wearing for 5+ years. (including the before mention denim jacket) Is that too long? I live in an area that has 4 actual seasons, so things don't necessarily wear out in a year or two and I do still feel like they're fashionable (esp when paired with current pieces.) Part of me is thrilled that I can still fit in stuff from 5, 8, 10+ years ago but I'm wondering if things should be replaced just for the sake of being replaced. Thanks!

ok, if that jacket was large enuf for me i would buy it – JUST.BECAUSE.YOU.MAKE.ME.LAUGH every time you go on a rant like this. you and shay are just too funny! (and the doubters still need to buy the wedges….NOW… do not wait! – MOST COMFORTABLE WEDGE EVER – no really EVER . originally bought putty, put them on, ordered black –they arrived , pondered and fretted for 2 weeks whether or not i should order yellow… ordered….wait for it, yes, 1/2 price, so i ordered the red too! like getting one pair free right!?!?) my husband told me NEVER to read your blogs EVER again. see how that is going! and to comment on amy in pa's comment. amy i am now wearing neon that i had from my closet in early 1980's! keep it and wear it is my opinion (even though you weren't asking me… but if you were…!) terry in pa

Hi Amy!
You have your blogger settings set to "no reply", so if you ever comment on

I think that the shelf life of a piece of clothing differs from item to item to item. I have a black dress that I wore this past summer to a wedding and felt fabulous in it. I wore that same dress to a different wedding 11 years ago. ELEVEN YEARS AGO!Crazy.
Now, my pleated pants from 11 years ago, not so excited to wear those.
And about my jacket, looking at it, I really wouldn't have been able to tell you it was dated. But as soon as I put on this new one, I was all "Whoa….that other jacket needs to go!"
I think you are TOTALLY right that old pieces work for a long time when new
pieces are mixed in.
Hope this helps!

Just ordered one too. I had been looking for a while. If you ever come across a tangerine dress or have any tips for searching let me know. I have been on the hunt for a gala in August. This gala benefits the children's hospital that saved our newborn sons life, so it is very special to me. I have had no luck finding something semi formal. So, if anybody out there has seen something please let me know.

I'm cracking up because I'm like, yeah, I have a cute fitted denim jacket I like and have worn a handful of times, and its a nice fit, and a good blue, but you nailed it exactly when you said (and I quote) "each and every time I went to put it on recently, I ended up taking it off. I didn't necessarily feel like it was dated, but it just never looked great on me." Um, have you been spying on me getting dressed?!?! (if so, poor you!) and yes, I agree, after seeing this jacket on you and your collage of ideas of what to wear it with, I can agree with you that my jacket is probably dated. Well, okay, totally dated.
And too "pockety" I totally get too. Harper has a book she loved called "TOO PURPLEY" and its so cute, you are not wrong at all for saying too "pockety" if there's a children's book out there called "too purpley". I mean, its in a book, so it's legit, right?!

I just got one ONLY because I trust you! I normally wouldn't have splurged, but I have needed to update my denim jacket that I have from the GAP. It's a little darker, heavier and at least 5 years old. I have worn the heck out of it too, so if this jacket is as cute as you say it is, I'm sure I'll get my money's worth. 🙂

Just ordered it. I've been wanting to get a fitted, short-waisted denim jacket to wear over a new maxi dress and I think this will work perfectly! The denim jacket I have is ~finger tip length and I bought it at Kohls a few years back because I had a coupon and because I could. And it sits in my closet.
I found your blog a few months ago and I can already tell it's going to be Dangerous!

Sheaffer I LOVE your blog! I just went to the link for the jacket and I absolutely LOVE it and I cannot decide what size to order. I usually wear a small or medium in tops and a medium in jackets. Though, everything keeps saying to size up and I am afraid a L 10-12 is going to be way too big, and then all the mediums will be gone!!!! What should I order… I need this jacket now!!!
Ps: you and Shay are my absolute favorite… I am addicted to reading your blogs… y'all are too much fun!!!
-Ashley
Sheaffer says
Hi Ashley! Your settings are set to "no reply", so I hope you check back here for your answer! I would order a medium. I think you're right..if you can wear smalls, the large would just swallow you and be too boxy.
Thanks so much for the sweet words!!!!!

Sheaffer 🙂

Thank you for getting back to me. A medium it is- I am ordering it RIGHT NOW! Also, how in the world do I change my settings… I have tried changing it from my blog and it is not changing:)

Scheaffer, you crack me up. You are a total nut and I love it. Something about your zany enthusiasm for certain things makes me have to buy. Let's see, I have: the wedges, the utility jacket (ahem, both colors), those shimera tanks, and now this… I love the joie de vivre you exude. Want you to know you have a fan in New England.
Kim Kauffman says
Oh that is adorable. Think of the possibilities – you could wear it with shorts, colored skinny jeans, maxi skirt, maxi dress….all sorts of things. I just told me husband I needed to go straight down to Nordstrom to try it on. He thought it was a lot of money for a jean jacket until I reminded him how much he spends on North Face jackets 🙂 Your blog is so dangerous for me. Love it!

What a an awesome jacket. I'd buy one if Nordstrom delivered in Turkey. Quick question though: what made your Loft jacket look too dated? Was it too dark? Was it the cut? I'm just curious because I too, like you, have an older jacket (Gap, 3 years ago) and I don't think it looks dated ( I've bleached the sleeves). But I wonder if it does and I'm the only one who thinks it doesn't? HELP, I don't want to look like I'm still in 2002. 🙂

It's so cute! We still don't have Nordstrom in Canada but it's coming later this year. I'm so excited that I recently dreamed that it opened and I was upset because I hadn't been yet. Fear of missing out lol!

You are killing me!!!! I just finally pulled the trigger on the wedges yesterday (in black b/c I already have a neutral pair) and now I see this??? Yup, totally ordered it this morning. And found myself nodding when you talked about your old jean jacket. I have one from the loft too and it was always just so stiff and felt uncomfortable and OLD. With our temps in TX we need the perfect type of jacket so we can breathe and move, am I right? Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I love your blog. I mean LOVE. My husband? Yeah… he doesn't love it that much 🙂
Jenn says
Sheaffer, I immediately went to check out this jacket and I was thrilled to realize that I just received this jacket in a slightly darker wash in my latest Stitch Fix box. I absolutely adore it and kept it. It has a bit of a stretchy feel that I love. I immediately went into my closet and put my older jean jacket in my goodwill box. I too realized how boxy and outdated it looked on me. I think I may have to order this one in the lighter wash too!!
Paige says

I want to order this too but unsure of the size. I wear between a size 0-2 and this jacket says XS is size 0 and small is 2-4. what do you recommend? I am 5'3" and 117 lbs.
Sheaffer says
Hi there! I would DEFINITELY order an extra small if I were you. Several of my friends tried mine on last night, and one friend who is close to your size definitely needed an extra small. I'm a 2-4 (but have a fairly large chest), so I definitely needed the small. I think the xs would be perfect for you! You will LOVE it!

New to your blog here and I have several different denim jackets, some more pockety than others. I love some more and have different shades of blue that I like to wear sort of in different seasons. Make sense? They are usually affordable so I can have more than one right? Anyway, it's not like I'm wearing a denim jacket all the time, but I do love the way they sort of pull an outfit together. I mean maxi, sandals, trendy necklace – cute BUT maxi, sandals, trendy necklace, denim jacket – CHECK ME! So I didn't have this lighter color and I ordered it!!!! Oh I NEEDED it. It should be here soon and I can't wait to try it on:) Thanks so much for the find. I hope I fall head over heels, I mean wedges, for it!
Anonymous says
Okay girl. So I am a 39 year old mom who follows your blog. I did try on the famous wedges and agree that they were super comfy but I am a size 10 and the biggest size they had were a tad too short and I have a pet peeve about heels hanging over the back. I am so sad to report that I cannot be in that great club. However, I just got the jean jacket! I love it. I do feel like it finishes off an outfit quite nicely! I ended up getting a large. I really wanted to get the medium so that it would be more fitted but I am broad shouldered and the lady at Nordstrom said it looked too tight. Boo! Anyway Thanks! Love your blog. Keep on it!
