It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means! It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know about some of my favorite things!
Most schools around here get out on Thursday of next week, which means we’re about to be in FULL BLOWN SUMMER MODE over here. I thought today was as good a day as any to talk about some of my SUMMER ESSENTIALS.
SUMMER ESSENTIAL #1
A great pair of sunglasses, of course! THESE babies are awesome. I get compliments on them every single time I wear them, and they are ONLY $12. BAM. If this shape isn’t what you are looking for, there are actually a TON OF $12-$14 sunglasses to choose from. Even though I do have a nice pair of Ray-bans, I prefer to take inexpensive sunglasses to the pool and beach. And for under $15, you can grab a couple of new styles! (And remember you can find my monogrammed sunglass case HERE. Use the code PTMTSAVE10 for 10% OFF your entire order.)

SUMMER ESSENTIAL #2
Everybody needs flip flops for the summer. These Haviana flip flops are PERFECT for the pool and beach. They are all rubber (so they are very comfy and durable), and I love how I can just rinse them off when they are dirty and they look good as new in just a matter of seconds! I have both the gold and the silver.
They are obviously super casual (because they are rubber), but it’s amazing how the little bit of bling manages to dress them up as well! I wear these babies with cut-offs, swimsuits, jeans, and even sundresses. I’m telling ya, a little bling goes a long way to dress these babies up. I know that $42 seems pricey for a flip flop, but they really do warrant the price. I probably wore them at least 5 days a week last summer. You can check out all of their styles for the entire family HERE. Click HERE for mine.

SUMMER ESSENTIAL #3
I certainly can’t do a Summer Essentials round up without talking about sunscreen. Over the last 3 or so years I have officially become a FREAK about sunscreen. I obviously want to protect myself and my family from dangerous rays, but let’s be honest…I also want to protect my face from getting any additional brown spots and wrinkles!
When Supergoop reached out this year to see if I wanted to talk about their products again, I jumped on board in about 1/2 a second. I couldn’t say “YES!” fast enough after falling in love with their brand and products last year.
Before we go any further, the folks as Supergoop were nice enough to extend a code to us for the weekend!!!! Use the code sxsg2017 for 20% OFF your entire order!!!! WOW!
So here’s the deal (and just one of the reasons I love Supergoop so much)….
I learned long ago that what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN your body (which is even more important to me now that I’m a mom), and I was super pumped when I found out that Supergoop knows and cares about this too. Carter’s pediatrician had given me a handout on what to look for concerning ingredients that should and should not be in sunscreen, and I was thrilled to see that the Supergoop ingredients list matched up! If you want to learn more about the ingredients and the philosophy behind their ingredient choices, I suggest heading to the Frequently Asked Questions page on their site.
I fell in love with their products last year, but this year the introduced some new products that I was really excited to try. They have 3 different ways to wear your SPF now: mineral, mist, and mousse! And I’m FLIPPING over the mineral powder and the mousse.
First up, their new sunscreen mousse. Here’s what I like about it: First of all, IT’S FUN! I don’t know about your kids, but my kid usually complains when I tell him it’s time to sunscreen up. Well, we’ve used this new product a handful of times now, and he hasn’t complained once. And I just don’t use it on Carter, I love using it too. It’s light weight, absorbs really quickly into the skin, and doesn’t leave any white residue or greasiness. Here’s the technical stuff you need to know about: the mousse actually acts as a moisturizer as well, it’s SPF 50, and is a water resistant formula. Apply about 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply as needed.
I mean, COME ON! Sunscreen mousse? That’s FUN!
My pool bag used to be full of pool toys for toddlers….now it just has towels, sunscreen, water bottles, and tons of snacks! You know you can always find other people at the pool with sunscreen you can borrow, but now I’m picky about my sunscreen, so I make sure that I always have plenty on hand.
And check out my cute new beach bag from Grateful Bags! I really love that it stands on it’s own, and you won’t believe what all you can cram into this baby. It has 1 interior zippered pocket, 2 interior open pockets, and 3 open pockets across the back of the bag. And if you already have a monogram color that you like, no need to get another one!
Click HERE for the beach bag and use the code STMT40 for 40% OFF!!!!! Click HERE for lots of Turkish towel options that are ALL ON SALE!
sunscreen mousse /refresh setting mist / perk up lip and cheek treat / toucan pouch / turkish towels ON SALE
So in addition to the mousse, there are 2 other new products that I’m super excited about as well. Actually, I’m not sure if this Perk Up product is new, but it’s new to me. I’m not really a make-up at the pool or beach girl (my hair is usually in a ponytail, my bangs are often pinned back, and I usually have on a dusting of powder and some gloss), but I still like to look my best. I love this color on my lips, but I love it even more on my cheeks. It gives a really natural and rosy color and just a pretty glow! And the compact’s mirror makes for easy application!
Last year I started using the mineral sunscreen all over my face because it absorbs quickly, doesn’t have a strong scent, and doesn’t leave my face greasy. (FYI: the mineral sunscreen is great for sensitive skin, especially if you have Rosacea.) In addition to wearing it to the pool or beach when I have no make-up on, I also put it on under my make-up if I know I’m going to be in the sun a good portion of the day.
However, on the occasions that I am in the sun with make-up on (my son’s baseball game, a neighborhood function, etc), this mineral powder is the perfect way to reapply some SPF without affecting my make-up at all! It’s great for all skin tones and leaves a pretty matte finish. It’s sweat resistant, reduces shine, and just gives a great overall look.
perk up lip and cheek treat / spf setting powder
I know I mentioned before that this product has spf, but it’s really just the color and product function that I love. The spf is just a bonus with this one!
So back to the mousse for a minute….Carter had friends over to swim after school last week, and I told the boys that I was going to put sunscreen in their hands and then take a picture. They were a little confused, but they obliged. When I squirted in in their hands, this was their reaction. Luke screamed “It’s like whip cream!” and Benton said “Can I eat it?” 🙂
Because we’ll have kids and families in our pool all summer, we keep stocked up on our favorite products and leave them on the patio by the pool for easy access. We’ve found that around the pool, this industrial sized dispenser of sunscreen is especially useful. (Click HERE and click on the video to learn a little more about Supergoop and this sunscreen from the founder!)
Last year we kept it, the standard mist, and the mineral sunscreen (for faces) available on our porch for everybody to have access to. This year we’ve added the mousse. You’ll notice I’ve kept the perk up and mineral powder out of the shot. That’s because I don’t want everybody using them. #mine #handsoff 😉
mousse/sunscreen mist /everyday sunscreen (available in 4 different sizes)/ mineral sunscreen
I also wanted to mention that I know that many of you are devoted fans of the CC cream. It’s a tinted moisturizer that’s perfect to wear to the pool or beach, and I know that lots of you actually wear it even when not planning on being out in the sun all day or around water. I initially liked it when I tried it last year, but I think I actually need the medium colorway to love it.
If you are already familiar with Supergoop and their line, I would love for you to leave a comment naming your favorite products!
And just to prove my love…here are some pictures from last year….just me and my Supergoop at the lake.

And here are the two of us last year before heading out for a baseball game (with the the mineral sunscreen )! My goodness he looks young to me here.
Remember: Use the code sxsg2017 for 20% OFF your entire order!!!! A huge thank you to Supergoop for sponsoring this post!
Here are my favorites:

FAVORITE #4-8: DENIM SHORTS, FLIP FLOPS, STRIPED TEE, CHUNKY STUD EARRINGS, and RAINBOW WOOD TASSEL NECKLACE
So I thought it would be fun to throw together an outfit that contained lots of my summer essentials. This outfit pretty much my sums up my summer uniform.
I’ve been wearing Madewell tees for years (there are tons of solid color options HERE), but this year I was really happy to add this striped one to the mix. I sized up to a medium for a really relaxed fit. AND GIRLS. I cannot say enough nice things about these denim shorts. They are stretchy and oh so flattering. I’m wearing my regular size 27, but size down if between sizes.
And the tassel necklace is my IT NECKLACE of summer. It has been for 2 years, and it will still be going strong this year as well. The wood beads and the rainbow fringe are made for summer. It just brightens up pretty much any outfit.
AND GIRLS! Use the code MEMORIALDAY for 30% OFF the rainbow wood tassel necklace (and your entire purchase from Accessory Concierge)! THIS IS HUGE!!!!!

These Madwell tees are $19.50, and I love the fit. I have some in smalls, for a more fitted look. And I have some in mediums for a more relaxed look. Over the past several years I have collected the grey, navy, blush, white, and red and love and wear them all the time.

FAVORITE #9: STATEMENT EARRINGS
As much as I talk about the super inexpensive chunky stud earrings that I wear all summer long, a summer statement earring is pretty much necessary this summer.
The two I’ve added to my closet this year are the mosaic tassel drop earrings (on left) and the turquoise clover drop earrings (on right). They both pack quite a punch and are under $40. Also, feather earrings are all the rage this summer, and THESE (also from BaubleBar) are so much fun and very affordable. The red and pink are my favorite, but the blue and turquoise are great too!
Here’s an outfit with the turquoise earrings. This top is a special little thing. 🙂 I got it from Social Threads (remember the embroidered top I featured earlier this month was from Social Threads too), and I’m so pleased with it. It’s fully lined, and has some adorable tassels hanging from the sleeves and them hem. Now, just like the previous top, I sized up to a large in this. The medium would have been fine, except it pulled a bit across the chest. If you don’t have a large chest, you might still consider sizing up 1 size. If you do have a larger chest, you might want to go up 2 full sizes.
And great news: sheaffer15 will get you $15 OFF of your $100 purchase at Social Threads!

I also wore the turquoise stunners with these outfits last week.

And here’s a previous outfit with the mosaic tassel earrings.
Size References: I’m wearing a small in the top and a 27 in the jeans, both true to size.

SUMMER ESSENTIAL #10: A Great Cover Up
I absolutely LIVE in cover ups over the summer, and I like to have several so I can rotate them and not worry about always having to pop them in the wash. 1) cap sleeve / 2) blue and coral embroidered tunic /3) cover up dress /4) crocheted cover up / 5) white billabong cover up / 6) coral tie dye /7) striped swing dress /8) red floral /9) hot pink with lace / 10) black kaftan

I LOVE this, YOU and Supergoop!! I discovered Supergoop a couple of months ago before we headed to Maui for Springbreak. I purchased the Mist Spray that sets your makeup and gives you a matte finish and the 50 SPF for face and body. I have to tell you~ I couldn’t keep it out of my teenagers hands! She loves the smell and every couple of hours sprayed her face and neck to just cool off in the hot sun! It protected her the whole time and she didn’t get all grossed out that she was putting sunscreen on her face! Needless to say I had to buy myself more BUT It’s worth EVERY penny to joyfully protect our young ones!! Thank you Sheaffer and Supergoop!!! I can’t wait to try the mineral setting powder and mousse!!

I definitely need to try this Supergoop!!! Just had a facial laser treatment so I need to use lots of sunscreen. Love the grateful pool bag…too cute!!
Have a great weekend!

Hurray for Supergoop!! I have the ginormous size pump bottle on my bathroom counter. Never an excuse not to slather it on everyday. I use it on my face as well; a little goes a long way as it is so nice and creamy. I got a bottle of their amazing serum on sale recently and am using that on my face now and will resume the Everyday Sunscreen once the serum is empty. Dying to try the powder and color compact!
Great post, btw. Madewell tee’s can’t be beat!! I go up a size as well to a small. Don’t like tops ‘touching me’. Sounds weird, but I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who feels that way!!
JenC says
The Supergoop sunscreen may be good for your body, but something else to consider is our oceans. Many of the chemicals in our sunscreens are causing lots of damage to the coral reefs and some fish. Ingredients that are an issue include: Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), Butylparaben, Octinoxate and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor. It may be okay in a pool, but please don’t use this at the beach!
Here is an article that discusses the issue.

Sheaffer, How long does one bottle of the mousse and the mist last? I have four kids so this is a bit pricey. BUT, if I knew it would last awhile, I would try it!
Sheaffer says
I’m not sure, Laura?!? The mousse is new to me this year, and I can’t remember about the mist. I’ve got a lot less people in my family, so it seems like it lasts a really long time! Xoxo, Sheaffer
Mary says
I bought the Clover earrings in multi and you have about convinced me to buy the turquoise ones although I MIGHT have a few turquoise earrings already. Lots of impact without a lot of weight on the earlobes. I tried the mosaic ones too but they were just a little too dangly for me.
: ( Have a great weekend!!

What is the interior of the Grateful bag made of? I looked on their website but was unable to find out. Wanting something that will hold up to spilled sunscreen and some sand. 🙂

Hi, Rebecca! I’m out of town, but I let Jenny at Grateful Bags know to come over here to answer questions! Xoxo, Sheaffer

I have been wearing Havana flip flops for years and love them. We used to stock up on them when we would travel to the Caymans every other summer. Lots of great sales happening this weekend. I am especially happy with the Half Yearly sale. Shared a blog post on my top picks and it looks like we shared a look of the same/similar items. Good tastes 😉

Why do cover ups always seem to be white or black? I want more bright summer colors or fun patterns.
