Friday Favorites: Denim Shorts Edition

It’s Friday, so y’all know what that means!  It’s time to link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci to let everybody know what some of my favorite things are right now!

This week I got to go on the 3rd grade field trip with my little man, and it was definitely a favorite of the week for me.  The kids had a blast, and I loved getting to watch Carter and his friends work through all of the stations together.  They are great kids!

Last year some friends gave me a gift card to Drybar for my birthday.  I’d never had a blow out before, but I finally used it and thought it was so much fun!  Shay and I met at the Plano location and made a morning out of it.  I picked up THIS hairspray and THIS teasing brush, and I’ve been loving them.

A reader (Hi, Samantha!) sent me this picture earlier this week (getting pics from readers is a favorite!) with a profession of her love for the MUST HAVE wedges.  And y’all!  Look at her dress!  SO CUTE!  And great news…her dress is ON SALE!

Madewell is being price matched at Nordstrom right now, and that’s definitely a favorite.  This top caught my eye and looks PERFECT for summer, but let’s review items that I already have that ARE NOW ON SALE!

My colorway is going in and out of stock in certain sizes, but the white version of this top is available and looks cute too!

The top is a loose and swingy fit with gorgeous and brightly colored embroidery.  I love that the embroidery is on the sleeves as well, and the little pleats under the chest are such a nice addition.  For size reference, I’m wearing a small, which is true to size for me.  If I didn’t need the room in the chest, I might have been able to size down….but I definitely needed the room up top.

This top is loose and flowy, and it would totally hide a full belly of margaritas and guac.  Which is definitely a requirement for some of my tops. ?  It has a curved hem and some really cool embroidery along the neckline and sleeves.  Even though this top is long sleeves, it’s easy and breezy…so this is a good choice for those of you that prefer not to show your arms, even in the hotter seasons.  I’m wearing a small in the top, which was true to size for me. I’m wearing a 27 in the jeans, but size down if between sizes.

There are several things in this picture that I would like to call your attention to.  They are all FAVORITES for me for sure.

Second, the denim shorts.  I can’t say enough great things about these shorts.  I’ve received several e-mails from readers saying they think I should make these a MUST HAVE!  I agree, except they are short, so I don’t know if they have enough mainstream appeal to officially be named a MUST HAVE. But I’ll tell you, I must have them.  And I highly recommend them.

Third, the tee.  This whisper tee is my favorite and it’s NOW ON SALE.  I’ve been wearing these tees for years (I think I have 5 colors), and they are a big part of my wardrobe all year long.

Also of importance:  this bag is awesome, the belt is darling, the bracelets are great for stacking and come in a myriad of different colors, the sunglasses are only $14, and the sandals are comfy as all get out (size up 1/2 a size)

So now I want to talk a bit more about the denim shorts.  I’ve received TONS of questions about my denim shorts (and others), so I have some instastories that I’m going to load this morning, showing you the differences between my favorite cuffed denim shorts, a frayed pair of denim shorts, and a longer pair of denim shorts.  I’m about to feature all of them right here, but head over to my instatories to check it all out on video!

Here are my favorite pair.  I got them last year, and I’m still wearing them like crazy this year.  I’m wearing a 27, so they are true to size for me. I size up to a medium in these tees.  Size up a 1/2 size in the sandals.

I LOVE THIS OUTFIT.  And not only is the black tee on sale, so are all of these colors as well as the striped one I wear all the time!

Here’s the same pair of shorts, but I’m wearing a 26 instead of the 27.  I much prefer the 27, but I had lots of you asking if you should size down.  I can definitely wear the 26s, but they are quite a bit shorter and tighter, and I prefer the looser fit of my regular size 27s.

Here’s a pair of frayed hem denim shorts from the same maker,  but I found these at an online boutique.  I actually sized up to a 28 in these.  Still stretchy and comfy, but I’m a little worried about how they will wash.  I imagine I’ll just have to trim the extra fray after each washing, but I’m willing to do that because I really like them!

I get lots of inquiries asking for longer denim shorts options.  I’ve tried several over the years, and I ordered 4 pairs this year to try for y’all.  Out of 3 that have arrived thus far, THESE were the clear winners!  They have a 7 1/2 inch uncuffed inseam (how I’m wearing them here), and a 6 1/2 inch cuffed inseam.  They are from our beloved Wit and Wisdom, so if you are already a fan of the brand (and how it sucks you in while still allowing you to breathe), you are going to love these!  They come in regular and petite, and I’m wearing the 4 regular here.

As you can see from the picture below, I’ve almost completely changed over my skin care to Colleen Rothschild products, AND SEVERAL OF HER PRODUCTS ARE ON  SALE RIGHT NOW!.

I’m holding the two products that are most important to my skin care routine right now (and both are ON SALE).  My skin is terribly dry with all of the weather changes we’ve been experiencing, and these 2 products help combat that the best for me!

On the left is the dual enzyme polish.  This stuff is amazing.  It’s a gentle exfoliator. When I use it, I rub it all over my face, and then I leave it for 5-10 minutes.  After it’s set for a bit, I rub my fingers in small circular motions all over my face, which allows the microbeads in the polish to gently exfoliate and slough off my dead and dry skin.   Finally, I wash it all off with warm water.  Your face will feel incredibly clean and soooooo fresh.

I usually use this twice a week (you need to use a product like this, because exfoliating your skin on a regular basis helps the other products you are using to be more effective), but I’ve used it more this week because my skin needed it.

The product on the right is the cleansing balm.  What’s cool about this cleanser is that you apply it on your dry face.  It feels like a really luxurious balm and it smells HEAVENLY.  I rub the balm all over my face and eyes (if you have time you can place a damp cloth over your face for a mini facial!) and then rinse it off with warm water.  I know this is a big claim that I’m about to make, but you will look forward to washing your face each night.  ?  When my face is especially dry, I rub on a small amount before I put on my moisturizer and let it just hang out for several minutes before I eventually wash it off and apply my moisturizer.

And here I am in the dress!  I couldn’t find my leopard clutch at the moment, so I substituted this black one with the wooden ring (that is ONLY $25)!

The dress is a fabulous stretch cotton, and the ruffle details on the sleeves and the skirt are so fun and flirty!  It has a great fit that is incredibly flattering.  It’s very similar to the LOFT dress that I showed a couple of weeks ago (click HERE to see me in the LOFT dress).  I won’t be keeping both dresses (I ordered them at the same time, they just arrived a week apart), so I have to decide which one I like better.  This one has a bit more casual of a vibe due to the stretch cotton material, and I think it might be more what I need in my closet.  I went with a 6 in this dress.

And as you can see, I ordered the black MUST HAVE WEDGES as well.  #itoldmyselfto  And the earrings?  They really are fabulous.
