Today is like a dream come true for me. I mean, it’s possible that the word “dream” is a bit dramatic (not that I’ve ever been accused of being dramatic! Ha!), but I’ve partnered up with eBay to review an item that I’ve wanted for almost a year now. Any guesses on what it is? Bueller? Bueller?
Oh, wait. I just remembered the title of my post. I guess the jig is up. It’s THE DYSON HAIRDRYER!
CUE THE OOHS and AAHS FROM THE READERS.
CUE THE HAPPY DANCE FROM YOURS TRULY.
I mean, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen an item with more internet hype, so I’m going to provide a full Dyson hair dryer review with a break down for you on whether or not I think it lives up to ALL. THE. HYPE.
Spoiler Alert: I’m now the mayor of hype town. I want to marry my hair dryer. Look how pretty she is!
I mean, if a tool can make me not dread the chore of drying my hair, then it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
Let’s back up for a second.
eBay Dyson Outlet
We’ll get to all of my thoughts on this amazing little piece of machinery in just a minute, but before that, I want to have a quick review for those of you that saw my previous posts with eBay. And maybe y’all who didn’t see the posts will learn something new! Do you know that eBay now has approximately 1.1 billion listings at any given time? Let that sink in. ONE BILLION ITEMS. 81% of those 1 billion items are NEW, and most of those are listed as BUY IT NOW! And the majority of items can be purchased immediately. Personally, I love the “buy it now” feature, because who has time to be always be checking back in on an auction these days?!?
They also have refurbished items (my hairdryer is refurbished and I saved quite a bit of money!). And they have a DYSON OUTLET! I didn’t know anything about the outlet until February of this year when I did a vacuum review for our new Dyson vacuum (the Dyson Ball Animal 2 Bagless Upright). If you are in the market for a new vacuum, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ours.
If you remember, I’d never owned a Dyson product until we purchased this vacuum. Click HERE for my full and comprehensive vacuum review. But if you click over, consider yourself warned… in addition to a very thorough vacuum review, there’s also a ton of puppy pictures. Prepare yourself for furry cuteness and puppy overload. I hope you can handle it.
Put simply, the vacuum made me a believer in the Dyson brand. We have been so incredibly happy with our vacuum, and I can say now that we like it even more now than we did when I initially reviewed it. This thing is a power house, and it helps us keep our unbelievable amount of puppy hair under control.
How to Get A Dyson Hair Dryer on Sale!
Although the hair dryer isn’t officially a part of The Dyson Outlet on eBay (you have to check the outlet out!), they do have refurbished options on eBay (where you can save $120)! This is the best way to get a Dyson hair dryer on sale!! They are still expensive, but after using it for 3 weeks now, I’m taking the stance of you can’t put a price on shiny and healthy hair. I’m considering it as an investment in my hair. Seriously.
My next several sentences are going to sound so vain, but they are honest, so I’m going to go ahead and put them out there. Hair that looks shiny and healthy is very important to me. I mean, when I have a good hair day, it makes me happy. And a bad hair day seriously brings me down.
Silly? Yes.
True? YES.
Please tell me y’all identify with that!
Where It All Began: A Dyson Hair Dryer Love Affair
My obsession started back in September when I used Shay‘s Dyson hairdryer while on a girl’s trip. I was AMAZED at how much better my hair looked after using the dryer only 1 time. I immediately wanted one for myself, but I put it out of my head because of the price tag. And then I used Cassie‘s when we were at a conference back in April, and I was reminded about how much I loved it. AND HOW MUCH MY HAIR LOVED IT.
And then eBay wanted to team up for a Dyson product review, and it was just the nudge I needed. I hopped on and ordered a refurbished option immediately (because I loved the idea of saving a little bit of money), and I anxiously awaited it’s arrival.
It came about 3 weeks ago, AND Y’ALL. I feel like it’s worth every dang penny. I mean, just look how happy I am while drying my hair.
DYSON HAIR DRYER FEATURES
Let’s just talk about the basics first. When researching this dryer for this post, I was blown away (#punintended) to learn that the final model was born after YEARS AND YEARS of controlled research. We’re talking over 1,000 engineers and over 500 inventions paved the way to the final product. WHOAH.
So what features did all of this research get us? I’m going to list some of the PROS and the technical aspects of the dryer that Dyson boasts.
PREVENTS HEAT DAMAGE
This dryer is smart. It “measures air temperature 20x a second, helping to prevent heat damage” to your hair.
SUPER FAST DRYING
The dryer employs controlled airflow, which results in faster drying time. It has 3 speed settings and 3 heat settings that are all easily accessed and activated.
COOL ATTACHMENTS
The hair dryer comes with 3 different attachments: the smoothing nozzle, the styling concentrator, and the diffuser. The attachments are magnetic (which is awesome because they are so easy to attach and detach!) and the Dyson heat shield technology keeps them from getting too hot, so you won’t be scalding your fingertips when you are removing them after use.
QUIET MOTOR
The motor of this dryer is definitely something that sets it apart from all other hair dryers on the market. It’s noticeably more quiet than your average hair dryer.
MY DYSON HAIR DRYER REVIEW
OKAY! Now that all of the technical aspects have been covered, let’s get to my emotional review of the dryer. Because my love for this baby runs deep.
My love for this dryer is partially explained by the fact that I’ve never been a girl who can go several days without washing my hair (gosh I wish I was!), so I’m typically washing and drying my hair about 5 days a week. #iknow #gasp
In a world where I see bloggers often talk about going 3-5 days between hair washing with all sorts of different tips and ticks, I’m definitely not the norm. In fact, I’ve only tried using dry shampoo once, and it was a disaster. I looked like Sophia from The Golden Girls. (Just fyi, I laughed out loud when I wrote that.)
How I Dry My Hair:
1. When I’m in a time crunch (and/or just don’t care):
I dry it all over without any styling tools except just a regular brush. When I’m done drying it this way, it looks terrible. But then I pop 5 large hot rollers in my hair and I’m ready to go! The rollers smooth my hair out a bit and give me some curl.
2. When I have more time (and/or when I want my hair to look it’s best):
I like to dry my hair with a round brush. I section my hair off into top, middle, and bottom sections and take real care while drying each section with the round brush. I put a large velcro roller at the crown to give lift and volume, and then I dry the bottom section….and then the middle section….and then the side sections. With each section, I’m using a round brush to both pull the wave out of my hair and add a soft curl to the ends. When I want my hair to look the best it can, I choose option #2. If I want my hair to have extra staying power, I still my pop in some rollers really quickly at the end.
If I need my hair to look really good on a particular day, I will wash it that morning…even if I just washed it the day before. It’s exhausting, and I know it’s not good for my hair! So, any product that makes the hair drying experience more enjoyable for me is worth it’s weight in gold since I’m doing it so often. The fast drying technology, the heat protectors, and the attachments all come in to play here.
Since I am drying my hair so often, I really appreciate that the technology behind the dryer prevents damage. I also am thrilled with the fact that it takes less time to dry my hair. Now, I haven’t broken out the stop watch and charted anything, but I would say it’s shaved about 7-8 minutes off my drying time. I’ll take it! Another feature I use and love is the cool blast button. When drying my hair with my round brush, I feel like the cool blast button really helps to set the curl.
And I can say this without any hesitation: My hair is both shinier and more manageable after using this hair dryer.
Benefits to Using the Dyson Hair Dryer
Better Day-2 Hair
When I do go 2 days without washing my hair, my hair NO DOUBT looks better on the 2nd day. Like, I wake up and can just run a brush through it and smooth it a bit, and I’m ready to walk out the door. Sometimes I’ll pop the rollers back in it if it really needs to be revived. But I’m telling you, this hair dryer makes my Day 2 hair both bouncier and shinier.
Light Weight
The dryer is surprisingly light weight, and it is much quieter than I anticipated. These features are nice, but it’s the features I previously mentioned that make this hair dryer worth the money for me.
Cons
So the only thing about this product that I’m not crazy about is the price tag. I LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT. And in all seriousness, I’m willing to pay some serious bucks for shiny hair. But again, buying a refurbished model allows you to get the Dyson hair dryer on sale – that’s $120 off the original price!
Also, holding the dryer higher up on the handle (due to the air intake being on the bottom) takes some getting used to, but now I don’t even think about it.
Final Thoughts on The Dyson Hair Dryer
In conclusion, if you have some extra money laying around for a not necessary but I sure do want it purchase, I would highly recommend my Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Although it’s definitely an investment, I think that many of you will find that it’s worth it. Especially those of you that have thick and/or hard to manage hair. If you already have easy to manage and shiny hair, it probably won’t be worth it to you. But for those of us that need a little help in the hair department, THIS DRYER IS GOLDEN. Shinier, smoother, and healthier hair is worth the price tag for me.
A huge THANK YOU to eBay for sponsoring this Dyson Hair Dryer review and post. And a ginormous THANK YOU to Dyson for helping my sanity. Because of their company and their dedication to quality products, I now have hair that’s shinier than it’s ever been and floors that make me smile when they aren’t covered in dog hair. And that my friends is priceless.
And remember, it all started with my vacuum obsession. If you aren’t ready to drop so much money on a hairdryer, but you want a vacuum that brings you joy (yes, the vacuum brings me joy! ha!), LOOK TO DYSON. You can always head to my vacuum post to review all of my thoughts on our beloved Dyson vacuum, but here are some other vacuum models that I’ve heard great things about!
Everybody I know has a stick that they absolutely rave about, but we don’t have a great place to keep one plugged in and charging, which is quite frankly the only thing that is stopping us from adding one to our Dyson collection. The online reviews are quite helpful, so if you are trying to decide on the best one for your family, make sure you take plenty of time to read them! Happy vacuum shopping!
If you have a Dyson (either a vacuum or a hair dryer), I would love it if you would leave a comment with your thoughts!!! A huge thank you to Dyson for making incredible products and for sponsoring this post.

We have two Dyson vacuums, and I truly believe they MAKE OUR LIFE HAPPIER. Haha. I can only imagine what a Dyson hairdryer would do! This hairdryer looks amazing!
Bonnie says
Sophia from the Golden Girls. LOL!
Sheaffer says
I’m glad you liked that, Bonnie! 🙂 xoxo
Lyndsay says
I’m already a Dyson hair dryer addict (followed the research for a few years and swear by it!) but would love to know what hot rollers you use to add volume! I think I’ve seen you mention the T3 rollers before but thought I’d double check 🙂
Sheaffer says
Hi, Lyndsay! I’m happy to hear you love it too! I actually just use the Conair rollers that come in a set of 5! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Laurie S says
My hair stylist bought a Dyson hairdryer and says it’s a life changer for her and her job. She bought a new one, and It’s more expensive than even the pro brands. She said that it took time to adjust to the short/no nozzle feature and settings. I can’t believe how fast she can dry my hair! one of her other clients usually needs 45 minutes for blow dry now only takes 15 – is a win win for all! And I can relate on the dirty hair day is a not happy day – my hair goes into a braid or topknot on those days…
Sheaffer says
Laurie! Now that’s a glowing recommendation! This past weekend I was actually on a vacation with a hair dresser that’s a family friend, and I told her she had to try mine. She was going on and on about how quiet it is too! If it’s a game changer for me with time, I can’t even imagine the amount of time it would save hair dressers every day! Thanks for the comment! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cassie says
I LOVE Dyson!! We have a big vacuum, a stick vacuum, and then my hubby surprised me with the hairdryer!! They are the best ever!! I agree with all you said about the hairdryer-healthier, shinier hair-with less drying time! Win, Win! And I would recommend you totally get the stick vacuum…it’s life changing!! 🙂
Sheaffer says
I really do need the stick, don’t I? And I’m so happy to hear your love the dryer too! I mean, isn’t it crazier that your hair is SHINIER? I love it!!!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Cary says
We have had great luck with both of our Dyson vacuums so earlier this summer when my old hairdryer died, I purchased the Dyson Hairdryer. I do like it, but I’m still kind of on the fence for the price tag. Since I only wash my hair about 4 times a week, I feel like I haven’t used it enough to really get my routine down with it. Do you use the highest speed and heat settings? I’ve been using medium heat and medium drying speed. I have the best results when I use the smoothing nozzle attachment. When I don’t use attachments, I notice the high velocity air flow tends to tangle my long hair, like you’re in a wind tunnel LOL. My hair is smooth and shiny when using the attachments. I didn’t notice it being lighter weight than my old dryer. Thanks for a great review!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Cary! I’ve actually only used it with either the smoothing nozzle or the styling nozzle. Because I have wavy hair in the back (and straight on the sides), I’m constantly running a brush through my hair when drying it to pull the curl out. I think the tangling issues must happen when not using attachments. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
STACY TSOUKATOS says
Ok so I am gonna ask, I am pretty sold. I was planning on buying the drybar buttercup set that you raved about maybe a year ago but I did not need a blow dryer at the time. Now I do. A refurb dyson is not much more so based on this post, I believe that you find it superior to the Drybar?? r
Sheaffer says
Hi, Stacy! I truly loved my Drybar dryer…..but the Dyson is FAR AND ABOVE. No comparison really. I mean, they both dry hair faster, but only the Dyson improved my hair texture and quality! I absolutely love it. xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Linda Stewart says
Thank you so much for your honest review. I’m not a second day hair person either! I was on the fence about this because of the cost but if it makes my hair more manageable and saves drying time it will be worth it.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Linda! It definitely makes my hair look better on Day 2. No question about it! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Alexandra says
My husband and son gave me a brand new Dyson hairdryer for Mother’s Day and I’m not impressed. I have nerve damage/neuropathy in my right arm so I’m able to only use my left arm. I also have mid-back length hair. The Dyson is not that much lighter than my T3 was, but the Dyson hair dryer is specifically designed to use with a brush. I can’t use it with a brush. I tip my head over, blow dry my hair to 95% dry, turn it off, then flip my hair back to put my part in then get it 100% dry. Even with the smoothing or styling nozzles on, my hair gets tangled. I’ve dried my hair this way for 25+ years and no hair dryer EVER has made my hair tangle the way the Dyson does. I’m really disappointed, but I’m not saying anything to my hubby and son about it since they were so kind to give it to me! I’ve tried numerous styling products to see if that makes a difference, changed the heat settings and speed settings to no avail. It’s a super expensive FAIL in my book.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Alex! What a sweet gesture from your husband and son. I’m so sorry this product didn’t work for you. I can imagine that drying your hair is a super difficult task with neuropathy (which I hear is so painful! I’m so sorry!). A couple of other people have mentioned the tangling issue, I guess I’ve never experienced that because I dry mine with either a straight brush (pulling out my waves in the back) or a round brush every time. I can see how the high powered blowing could cause tangles if a brush wasn’t being used also. I appreciate your feeback! xoxo, Sheaffer
Jenny says
I bought a refurbished one on eBay after Cassie recommended it. I thought I liked my buttercup. But I truly tell people the Dyson is life changing. I even travel with it because I refuse to use anything else! The refurbished one helps with the price if people are on the fence!
Sheaffer says
This is exactly how I feel, Jenny! I truly loved the Buttercup….but the Dyson is superior! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Maura says
Feeling sad I pulled the trigger on the buttercup last year. SOS lol
Sheaffer says
Hi, Maura! I promise I liked the dryer when I recommended it! It was the best dryer I had ever used…up until now. 😉 xoxo
Catherine says
Do you apply any products prior to drying?
Sheaffer says
Hi, Catherine! I sometimes apply a blow dry spray I love, but that’s all! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Donna says
Thanks for the review on the Dyson hair dryer. I’ve been looking at if for almost a year, but didn’t know about the furnished ones. You just saved me some money! I have the animal Dyson vacuum and love it. That’s what convinced me to try the stick and I would never be without one. We have a golden as well with hardwood and tile floors and I was constantly sweeping and then picking it up with a dustpan. The Dyson stick picks it all up, even the little dust particles. You don’t have to worry about dumping the dustpan and getting it everywhere. I didn’t have room to plug one in either so put it in the garage. So worth it that I don’t even mind going out there to get it. The newer ones even hold a charge longer than mine, which will go about 15 minutes. Good luck..I bet I read review from you in it in the near future!
Sheaffer says
Thanks for the tips on the stick, Donna! EVERYBODY swears I need one! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
