Okay, mamas. I know there are lots of you out there that are getting ready to send your babies to college in the next several weeks. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT Y’ALL ARE FEELING. I’m guessing it’s lots of pride and joy, mixed with some anxiety and overwhelming sadness. I mean, am I right? Like you’re so happy for them and this new and exciting time in their life, but your mama heart is also breaking into tiny pieces that you aren’t going to get to hug their neck every night? Being a mom is so hard, y’all!!!
I’m just sending my baby to high school, and I bawled on Saturday before going to high school orientation. I wasn’t really crying about high school, I was just crying because I know that time is a thief and the next 4 years are going to absolutely fly by.
For those of you that are getting ready to send your babies off, I’m hoping today’s post will be helpful.
JCPenney has everything you need to get your kids ready for the year ahead. Just look how cute their dorm or apartment could be with just a little help from JCPenney!
I’m highlighting some things below that caught my eye, but you can click HERE for all of their college essentials. And great news, there’s a BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT that starts today and ends on 8/10.
1) lamp / 2) organizing cart / 3) shower curtain / 4) bathroom set / 5) wastebasket / 6) water bottle / 7) toaster / 8) blanket / 9) faux succulent / 10) floral pillow / 11) bath mat / 12) bed in a bag / 13) laundry hamper
1) lamp / I love this super cute lamp for a super affordable price. Great for a bed side table or desk.
2) organizing cart / I remember having a cart just like this one in my dorm room. It sat right next to the mini fridge and the microwave, and it basically functioned as a miniature pantry.
3) shower curtain / This shower curtain is adorable, and right now it’s under $15!
4) bathroom set / I want this for my house, but it would be cute for your college kid too.
5) wastebasket / And here’s the matching wastebasket.
6) water bottle / BPA free and necessary for college kids to stay hydrated during a long day of classes.
7) toaster / I didn’t have a toaster in my dorm room as a freshman, but I remember making toast almost every single morning after moving into a college house with friends. Toast = YUMMY and CHEAP! Perfect for a college kid. 🙂
8) blanket / This totally looks like a Barefoot Dreams blanket, but it’s a fraction of the price. I don’t know a college kid that wouldn’t love to cuddle up with this while sleeping or studying.
9) faux succulent / I think greenery is important for just about every room. A college kid obviously can’t be trusted to keep a real plant alive, so this faux succulent would be perfect! Haha!
10) floral pillow / I think this floral pillow is adorable. It goes so well with the bedding below!
11) bath mat / Under $13 and cute.
12) bed in a bag / This bedding comes in both 6 piece and 8-piece twin, full, queen, and king sets. And in addition to this vibrant blue, it also comes in grey and mustard.
13) laundry hamper / If your kiddo is living in a dorm this year, their laundry hamper will probably live right next to their bed. If it’s going to be out in the open, it might as well be cute!

Well your intro paragraph had me wanting to bawl. Friend, weren’t we JUST sitting on the bench in front of Spoons with two infant pumpkins?!

I am sending three kids back to college, a junior and two sophomores, and this is a great list. Ikea bags (on Amazon) are great for packing all the things. They are roomy and can be folded and take up virtually zero space when empty. Most schools have floor plans with measurements, on their websites. You know exactly how large (or small) the closet is, how many drawers you have, the size of the windows etc.
It’s cheesy but let your kids know they will be okay. It’s okay to be lonely, it will take time to find your people. If you want your kids to maintain a certain moral standard talk about your expectations. Let them know that parents need a text or call once in a while. Oh, and also that potatoes will explode in the microwave if you don’t pierce them with a fork. Please teach them to do laundry. One of our daughters had a girl on her floor that went home every two weeks so her mom could do her laundry.
They can go to college with all the things, but they also need life skills more than stuff.
