CLOSET STAPLES FOR FALL

Today’s post is full of tons of basics that will help you transition to Fall and carry you all the way into Winter.  Heck, many of them will take you all the way into Spring!  Some of the items highlighted today are things I’ve owned for awhile, but they are still available…… some are new…..but all of the items that are ones you will find yourself reaching for again and again.  And again. #andagain

When Nordstrom reached out and asked me to talk about some of their house brands, I knew just the basics I wanted to reach for!  The Nordstrom house brands include many different labels, several of which you see me in all the time:  Halogen, Caslon, BP, Chelsea28, Treasure and Bond, and Hinge.  These brands are exclusive to Nordstrom, typically well stocked in all sizes, and they offer great style at a reasonable price point.

Let’s start out with the peplum tee that I’m crazy about.  This is a basic tee that’s kicked up a notch with a peplum hem.  I especially love that the hem is made up of tiny soft pleats.  It’s lightweight, looks great on it’s own, can be easily worn under another layer, and right now comes in 6 colorways (3 solids and 3 stripes).  It’s super soft and has a great loose fit (that’s not too loose).  It doesn’t look sloppy, it just looks comfy!  And it’s ONLY $39.

Here’s a super casual look with the white peplum tee.  And get this!  The white tee doesn’t need a cami!

This is an outfit that I will be wearing at least once a week.  (And let’s be honest, I’ll wear it twice a week if I’m not going to see the same people.)  Ha! 🙂

For size reference, I’m 5’4″ and wearing a regular small (NOT petite) in the tee.  It’s a bit oversized, but that’s how it’s meant to be.  If you prefer a more fitted look, you might consider sizing down.  Again, I’m pumped that it doesn’t require a cami!  I’m wearing a 27 in the jeans (true to size) and I sized down 1/2 a size in the shoreline converse.

And here’s the same tee dressed up a bit with this FABULOUS necklace,  And y’all, this necklace is ONLY $17 .  WAIT!  HOLD THE PHONE!  It got marked down to ONLY $8.75 just yesterday!!!!!!

There are two other great basics in this outfit:  the jacket and the grey jeans.  We talked last month about how grey jeans are pretty much needed for your fall wardrobe.  I had a 2 parter making the case for them  (Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE).  My grey jeans are Caslon from last year.  You can find regular, petite, and plus size of this year’s version of Caslon’s grey jeans HERE.

And the jacket is the first item I ever named a MUST HAVE on the blog.  And guess what.  Almost 4 years later, and it’s still a MUST HAVE for me.  FYI: I think they’ve changed the sizing of the jacket a bit over the years.  From reading reviews, it sounds like it now runs pretty small.  Everybody seems to be buying up 1 size (and sometimes 2 sizes).

To further prove to you that the peplum tee is a necessity for your fall closet, here it is in the mustard stripe. I switched out the light denim jacket with a dark denim jacket from the same maker (I got mine last year).  I switched up the jewelry too. It’s the same formula as the outfit above, but it looks totally different!

THIS NECKLACE seen in the outfit above is one of the basics that I feel like pretty much everybody needs in their closet.  It’s simple and totally no frills, but it will add a nice touch to so many different types of outfits!  AND GET THIS!  It’s adjustable! It can be as short as 20″ or as long as 38″.  You can make it perfect for each outfit.

And I’m pretty much the spokesperson for the need for a modern denim jacket in your closet.  If I was running for President, it would be my platform. 🙂 I’ve found Kut from the Kloth jackets (click HERE for all of the options) are easy to wear because they are soft and stretchy, unlike the denim jackets of yesteryear.  There’s a lot of denim colors and styles to choose from, and I love that their are a couple of plus size options in there!

And to prove my complete obsession with this top, I’ve got a 3rd color to show you.  I know, it’s kind of getting embarrassing.  Here’s how it went down.  I bought the white and mustard stripe online, and was only planning on keeping one of them.  But they were both so good, I kept them both.  And then I went and ordered the burgundy.  #oops

The above two looks show the top with skinny jeans, but I also plan on wearing it with my favorite pair of boot cut jeans!  Speaking of, boot cut jeans are another one of the staples that I think everybody should have! You’ll see me in this outfit next week, and we can talk more about the jeans then.

Now, before we go, I wanted to highlight some other pieces that have caught my eye from some of the other Nordstrom brands.  Like this ruffled utility jacket from Hinge.   DARLING.

As I mentioned before, Nordstrom brands typically have great price points, and these over the knee boots from Treasure and Bond are the perfect example.  They are ONLY $99.95!  And when you buy Treasure & Bond, Nordstrom will donate 2.5% of net sales to organizations that work to empower youth.

Chelsea28 is a brand with lots of girly touches (think ruffles, lace, and feminine silhouettes).  Like this ruffle sleeved blazer.

If you’ve read the blog for any period of time, you know that I often feature items from BP (the junior’s department at Nordstrom).  My taupe booties and my leopard clutch are both BP, and you’ll be seeing both on repeat the next several months.  This cozy sweater will be featured in a future post as well.  I got it in grey, but they’ve added a gorgeous blush pink….and I’m thinking of returning the grey for the blush.

This plaid top is from Halogen (like the disc necklace featured above), and I think it would look phenomenal with skinny jeans and over the knee boots.  Halogen also has an animal print belt for only $35, and everybody needs an animal print belt!
