LADIES!
We’re talking skincare today!
But we’re not just talking skincare, we are talking about skincare WITH COLLEEN ROTHSCHILD.
AND THERE IS a 25% SITE WIDE SALE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW (which is their best sale).
WHOAH.
This post originally ran last year, but it got SUCH GREAT FEEDBACK that I thought it made sense to run it again during their Friends and Family Sale!
So y’all know I’ve been using Colleen Rothschild skin care products almost exclusively for almost 6 years now and that I’m a big believer in the products. My mom, sister, and countless other friends are now champions of the brand as well. We are LOYAL. What can I say, great results produce loyal customers, plain and simple. And I get SO MUCH JOY when I receive e-mails from readers who are now as devoted to the brand as I am. I feel like I’ve created this loyal little army of Colleen lovers like me.
THESE. PRODUCTS. WORK.
And it’s not just the products I love. If you remember my Colleen Rothschild Told Me To post from a couple of years ago, you know that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Colleen and her husband Stan on a couple of different occasions. They are just so kind and so lovely.
So I love the brand, and I love the people behind the brand too, which is why I’m doubly excited for today’s post. BECAUSE COLLEEN IS ANSWERING OUR SKINCARE QUESTIONS TODAY!
I have to tell you, I’m just tickled that Colleen was gracious enough to agree to participate in this post. I get product questions from y’all quite frequently, and although I can always answer about my experience with a product, I’m definitely not speaking as an expert.
WELL, I WOULD SAY THAT COLLEEN IS AN EXPERT.
So I asked all of you for your skincare questions, and the questions flooded in.
Listen, we all know that skincare is so important, but it’s no secret that it’s also incredibly overwhelming to most! I’m just so happy that Colleen is going to help us work through all of our questions today. And I mean, seriously. Who better to ask about skincare?!?
Let’s go ahead and get started!
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH COLLEEN
Question: How did you get your start in skin care? What’s your background? @shannon_leyerly
Answer: I started behind the scenes in manufacturing over 25 years ago… I’ve worked on formulations for many beauty brands all over the world. A few years ago, my husband Stan and I set out to create my signature line. I brought all of my experience together to create a high-performance, results driven line that offers the ultimate sensory-rich experience. My goal is to make my customers feel good and enjoy their experience with us.

Question: I get confused with all the products and the order of using them! Can you help with that? @moriacox
Answer: The easiest rule to remember is to layer your formulas from thin to thick. Your outermost layers will always be a face oil, or your most emollient formula – and SPF always goes on last in the morning to protect your skin! Another great rule of thumb, is: Cleanse, Treat, Moisturize. Sometimes all you need is a simple, pared down routine to get your best skin.

Question: I use the cleansing balm, the acid radiance serum, and the vitamin c complex. I recently retired from teaching so money is now together and I need to rethink what I spend on skin care. But I am 66 so I’m looking at wrinkles, sun spots, etc. ha! I would love to hear what to use that is the most important and how to use it (what order do I apply the products, when do I use which product…etc). I don’t want to waste the product I do have putting it on incorrectly. Thanks for introducing us to her skincare. I really do love it. -Jo
Answer: Thank you so much for being such a great customer, Jo. You are already using great items.
For a simple AM routine, I recommend Cleansing Balm, Vitamin C Complex + a Moisturizer.
For a simple PM routine, I recommend Cleansing Balm, Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum + a Moisturizer.
Consider trying out the Extreme Recovery Cream – it can be used both AM & PM!

Question: Best morning routine/evening routine products? @staceynwade
Answer: See answer above for a simple morning and evening routine regimen, but if you are looking to target certain “issues”, more specific products could be recommended. If you don’t know where to start and are interested in sampling some products, try out the 7-Piece Discovery Collection. It comes with both AM & PM products to try out before you buy full size of anything.

Questions: Moisturizer with SPF?? @emfreitag / Do you have plans to introduce an SPF product soon?? @Ali.trauger
Answer: Believe it or not, products with SPF are some of the trickiest formulations and require months (and sometimes years!) of testing. Stay tuned, our new SPF will be launching very soon and I guarantee you will love it.
UPDATE: The introduced an SPF last month! I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but you can click HERE to check it out!

Question: Is it necessary to wipe all products down the neck and chest, or just certain ones? @wyobyday
Answer: The neck is easily one of the first places we start to show aging, along with our eyes and hands. You should always move any excess product down your neck and to the back of your hands to keep them looking the same “age” as the skin on your face. If you are running low on product, prioritize a treatment, like an exfoliator or a serum, and an ultra-rich moisturizer.
**********
Question: Can you use acids and retinol at the same time? @mcleodlife
Answer: While you can use them in conjunction to achieve your skincare goals, it is not recommend to use them consecutively in one evening. You should avoid using acids and retinol products together so that you do not over-sensitize or over-exfoliate the skin, which can cause irritation, breakouts, redness and affect the skin’s pH.

Question: My husband has terrible rosacea. What products do you recommend? @jenn_nee505
Answer: Our new CBD Oil. It was formulated specifically for customers who suffer from sensitive, reactive skin issues.
**********
Question: I’m 8 weeks pregnant. What products can I use and what products should I steer clear of? @jenn_nee505
Answer: While you are pregnant or nursing, it is ALWAYS best to check in with your doctor on any current or new beauty products you are using. As a general rule of thumb, it is best to stay away from products that contain retinol, or other forms of retinol, as well as most AHAs and BHAs as a precaution.
**********
Question: How clean are your products? @carmenjoyk
Answer: I think it’s important to note that no two companies or brands have the same definition of “clean” in the beauty world, but I can assure you that our products are always formulated without: Parabens, SLS/SLES Sulfates, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, PABA, Toluene, Benzene. My product philosophy is to provide the ultimate sensory-rich experience that combines the best botanical ingredients that nature has to offer with the latest innovations in modern science and technology.

Question: What is the best treatment for tech neck? @mommadingo
Answer: Try out this cocktail: Mix Face Oil No. 9 with Extreme Recovery Cream. It will plump those fine lines and wrinkles throughout the neck area, and you can apply it with medium pressure, similar to a massage.
**********
Question: I am on retin-a from my dermatologist, how do I work that into my CR skin routine? @alwisepa
Answer: Check in with your dermatologist first, but when using a retin-a product, you will want to limit sun exposure, always apply SPF and find a moisturizer that works best for you. Avoid the overuse of exfoliating products, which may further irritate the skin. The new CBD Face Oil is a great nourishing oil that can calm sensitive skin that is prone to acne and redness.
**********
Question: Older skin, but oily, not dry!!!! Lots of acne. Help! @mrsbethlkaiser
Answer: Add in a face oil. Customers with oily skin will gasp at the thought of adding oil, but then come back to write a review or share a testimonial on how wonderfully nourished, glowing and CLEAR their skin is looking. Try it – you won’t regret it! Our Face Oil No. 9 is a great option.

Question: What is the best way to prep your skin to apply serums and creams? Also eye area? @stephensintx
Answer: Keep skin balanced. Two of my favorites products to use in the morning are the Balancing Gel Cleanser, which balances the skin’s pH and leaves the skin feeling so soft, and the Matcha Tea Treatment Toner, which reduces redness, prohibits bacteria and calms the skin.
**********
Question: Based on Sheaffer’s reviews, I have tried a variety of CR products. I’m not sure that I have found the right combination for me though. I am 52 years old, so fine lines, wrinkles and dull skin are an awareness for me. The challenge comes in that I am also prone to regular breakouts, mainly whiteheads on my chin and the side of my nose. Please help! -Michelle
Answer: I recommend trying out the Glycolic Peel Pads with Blue Agave. The pads have quickly become a top seller and for good reason – the 10% blend of glycolic and lactic acids increase cellular turnover, keeping skin super clear and bright. (These pads are sold out right now, but we are working hard to get them back soon!)

QUESTIONS REGARDING AGING SKIN:
Questions: Best skincare routine for fine lines ?? @the_amybray
Starting to get fine lines in my 30’s! What can I use?? @caseycoffeeburns
Answer: Keep it simple, but don’t forget to exfoliate (I recommend the dual enzyme polish or the micro mineral resurfacing scrub) and moisturize. As we age, our skin cells renew at a slower rate, causing the skin to look dull and dehydrated which enhances the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Speed up skin cell renewal by using products with retinol, AHAs or BHAs, and select a moisturizer that will plump up fine lines and lock in moisture.
And it’s never too early to start using anti-aging products. Two of my favorite products to address fine lines are the Age Renewal Super Serum and the Retinol Supreme Night Oil. Use the Age Renewal Super Serum in the morning – it is chock full of peptides, collagen boosters, hyaluronic acid and other key nutrients that will keep your skin looking plump and nourished all day long. Then, use my Retinol Supreme Night Oil in the evening – it combines nourishing oils, potent Vitamin C and stabilized retinol to regenerate your skin overnight.

Question: What product(s) do you recommend for forehead wrinkles! TY! @julmarod
Answer: Try out the Extreme Recovery Cream. It has such a silky, yet bouncy texture that your skin (and those wrinkles) will just drink up!
**********
Question: Better for anti aging/anti wrinkles: retinol supreme oil or age renewal super serum? @mallorybarnardd
Answer: That’s like trying to pick your favorite child!! If I had to pick one over the other, I guess I would have to choose the Age Renewal Super Serum because it can be used in both the morning and in the evening. It can also be used as a booster when added to your daily moisturizer. This concentrated formula will help restore the skin’s complexion to its most youthful radiance and texture.
**********
Question: I have deep wrinkles around my mouth. What is the best product/products to help… @dupriestj
Answer: Definitely incorporate retinol into your routine, and use a skin-plumping moisturizer like the Extreme Recovery Cream. I also love to apply the Retinol Supreme Eye Serum to the fine lines around my lips in the evening. The super emollient texture stays in place throughout the night.

QUESTIONS REGARDING DARK SPOTS/PIGMENTATION/MELASMA – EXFOLIATION:
Many general questions came in regarding dark spots, pigmentation, and melasma. See those questions here: How do you treat the brown spots that just won’t fade? @kgtxgal / Any tips for melasma? @joannacook07 / What products are best for age spots, sun damage and melasma? @scrappinmomi / I would love to know what’s the best combo of products to help get rid of sun spots. I can’t WAIT for this post with Colleen Rothschild!!!! How EXCITING for you!!! – Julie C.
Colleen has one answer for everybody regarding these pesky dark spots that so many of us deal with!
Answer: Everyone should be using a product with Vitamin C and an SPF product every single day! You also need to adopt a consistent exfoliation routine to keep the skin bright and pores clear. My AM favorite is the Vitamin C Treatment Complex, which evens skin tone and provides antioxidant protection throughout the day. In the evening, I recommend using the Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum, which is a gentle exfoliant that can be used every day. It enhances skin cell turnover to reveal brighter, clearer, more even looking skin. Plus, the smell is intoxicating – you will look forward to it every night! And be sure to pick up the Glycolic Peel Pads when they are available again.

Sheaffer Asks Colleen
Thank you so much to all of you who submitted questions! I know I had some of the exact same questions, and I was so happy to receive answers from our resident expert. After hearing all Colleen had to say, I know I’m definitely going to start incorporating the Face Oil No. 9 into my routine. I never really gave it a chance because I always thought it would be too much for my skin, but now I have to try it! UPDATE: I added the face oil into my routine back in October, and I absolutely LOVE IT. I mix it with either the Extreme Recovery Cream and love the results!
And I’m also going to start applying the Vitamin C Treatment Complex each morning to help keep all of those nasty free radicals at bay. Oh, and Colleen’s answers reminded me how important it is to consistently exfoliate. I’m going to order more micro mineral resurfacing scrub since I’m almost out and I’m going to be more consistent about using the Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum at night to help with my dark spots as well.
To wrap things up, I had some questions of my own for Colleen!
Question: What would be the 1 product that would be the best to share with somebody who has never tried Colleen Rothschild products before?
Answer: The Discovery Kit for sure! It gives such a nice introduction to some of the stars in the line, and one can start to become familiar with a variety of our products.
******
Question: If you had to use JUST 3 ITEMS FROM YOUR LINE, what would be they?
Answer: I love this question because I think it’s really important for a lot of people to keep things simple, especially when you are first starting to pay attention to skincare. The 3 products I would recommend would be a cleanser (the Balancing Gel Cleanser or the Radiant Cleansing Balm), an exfoliator (the dual enzyme polish or the micro mineral resurfacing scrub), and a moisturizer (like the Extreme Recovery Cream ). You can of course build on products and target problem areas from there.
*******
Question: What is your best seller?
Answer: The answer to this question actually depends on the time of year, but the Face Oil No. 9 is always at the top of the list. I like to mix it with my moisturizer and put it all over my face and neck. I do want to mention that you don’t need to be afraid of your face oil if you have oily skin because it actually keeps sebum (skin oil) at bay. This is a great product for all types of skin
*******

Caroline says
Colleen’s products have transformed my skin and I now have my mom and sisters using them as well. If I had to pick favorites, I would go with the cleansing balm, the mandelic acid radiance serum, and the face oil #9. However, there are many more products that I can’t live without. Thank you SO MUCH for introducing me to this line!
Sheaffer says
So happy to hear this Caroline! I hear this time and time again. Most of the time people say they dragged their feet to try the products…but once they did, they are so mad they didn’t try them out sooner! xoxo
Laura Meyers says
My favorite product is the sheer renewal cream. It’s the best moisturizer I’ve ever used and I’m 44 years old!
Sheaffer says
I love the sheer renewal cream too! It’s so light, but it moisturizes so well! xoxo
Kim says
Sheaffer how do you handle cleaning your face and using a face tanner? Do you just reapply everyday? I feel like when I wash my face it all gets scrubbed off!
Thanks!
Kim
Sheaffer says
Hi, Kim! The first day the “tan” on my face is definitely darker, but I still feel like I have color for 3 days or so…unless I use the glycolic acid peel pads. If I use those, I definitely slough off the color. During the spring and summer months, I typically apply the self tanner on my face every 3 nights. Hope this helps! xoxo
Shay Shull says
I talked about that Discovery Kit this morning too! I am obsessed with it!!!!! Also…still thinking about that queso from last night…
Lisa G says
Love the cleansing balm and face oil #9. Also love the hair mask and gifted my MIL some of the bath products which she said smell like a dream. Love how quickly CR products ship to us in the Dallas area.
Sheaffer says
YES, Lisa! The hair products are seriously amazing. I love the mask, the serum, and the styling cream (I don’t love the shampoo). My mom swears by the hair products. And I feel like people don’t really go out on a limb to try the body products, but they should. For example, I gifted some to my mom and sister, and now they can’t live without them. xoxo
Erika Slaughter says
OOOHH!! That’s a great deal on those products!
Sandy Blitch says
I just started the hair products and I love them, my hair is so soft! Additionally, I use the cleansing balm on the crepiness on the underside of my arms. I even use it after my shower with a long sleeve tee and let it soak in until I put on my pjs at bedtime. I am not sure if Colleen is aware of this benefit of the cleansing balm, but I am confident that it actually reduces that crepiness that plague many of us older women!
Sheaffer says
SANDY! What a fantastic tip!!!!!! I’ve never heard anybody else say this, but WOW!
