Okay, ladies. Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks. Does everybody know what they are wearing?!?! #myguessisno
I know there are some who plan what they are going to wear weeks in advance….after all, when you are seeing family that you sometimes only see once a year, you want to look cute! I also know there are others who after pulling their side dish contributions out of the oven, will decide what they are going to throw on their bodies about 5 minutes before walking out the door. There are also those (like me), whose biggest concern is just being comfy! Especially if you are going to be in the car for awhile…..eating a big meal…..and then in the car again!
When Nordstrom reached out and asked me to talk about some of their house brands, I thought it would be fun to put together some outfits for Thanksgiving day! I created all of these outfits with lots of items that were already in my closet (and happen to be Nordstrom house brands). I also purchased a couple of new items that I thought would be great for everyday wear, but particularly for Thanksgiving day (think not fitted). 😉
The Nordstrom house brands include many different labels, several of which you see me in all the time: Caslon, BP, Chelsea28, Halogen, Hinge, and Treasure and Bond (Whenever you buy Treasure & Bond, Nordstrom donates 2.5% of sales to organizations that empower youth.). These brands are exclusive to Nordstrom, are typically well stocked in all sizes, and they offer great style at a reasonable price point. Click HERE to see all there is to choose from with their women’s house brands.
And if you need to pick up an item or two for your guy, click HERE to see all the men’s house brands. I would realllllly love to get Chris in a button up layered with this half zip pullover. I also love these boots (but Chris would never), but I’m hoping to get hem in these loafers (that have excellent reviews and are under $100). And although these jeans from Mavi aren’t a Nordstrom house brand, I keep hearing great things about them from y’all!
OUTFIT IDEA #1:
So this first top is one of the new pieces I bought. It’s from Caslon, which is one of the Nordstrom house brands that most of us already own a ton of pieces from. They call it a sweatshirt, but it’s obviously much fancier than a regular ol’ sweatshirt. And lucky for us, it’s comfier than a regular ol’ sweatshirt too. This baby is lined with a fleece like material that is crazy soft (and warm), it has a small cowl neck that drapes beautifully, and the back has these pretty little feminine pleats that give the top a lot of style.
This is not yo mama’s sweatshirt. 😉
It comes in 4 other colors, and I’m wearing a small. It’s definitely over sized, but let’s be frank, that’s what I was pretty much looking for. NOBODY should have to suck in on Thanksgiving, and we should eat all the dressing, all the rolls, and all the pie we want. I mean, green bean casserole and family is what the day is all about. #lovethosefrenchfriedonionsontop 😉
I truly cannot say enough about how soft and comfy this top is. And you really need to see what the back looks like. This top and my stretchy jeans are going to allow for a 2nd helping of Aunt Joan’s dressing. And gravy. #givemeallthegravy
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the sweatshirt and a 27 in the jeans.

OUTFIT IDEA #2:
If you want to look a little more styled and put together, this outfit might be more up your alley. It contains a $19 tee from the BP department (which I shop A LOT). The BP department has a lot of AMAZING deals (like my earrings and necklace below that are both under $15!), and you don’t need to be afraid that it’s considered the junior’s section. (My totally chic leopard clutch that sooooo many of you have is also from this department.)
The suede drape front jacket doesn’t feel like a jacket at all. It feels like a buttery layer that is soft, stretchy, and keeps you warm. But it’s definitely jacket-like. Jacket-ish if you will. All you really need to know is that it’s awesome.
As you can see, the tee is longer than a regular t-shirt and looks great out. For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the tee, a medium in the jacket, and a 27 in the jeans.
striped side slit tee/ suede drape front jacket / necklace / double hoop earrings/ jeans /leopard belt / MUST HAVE boots
The tee also looks great tucked in. However, since it’s quite a bit longer in the back, you can’t just do a 1/2 tuck..the entire shirt needs to be tucked in. When tucked in, I added a leopard belt to tie the entire outfit together.

OUTFIT IDEA #3:
All right, ladies. Let’s take the striped tee from above AND PAIR IT WITH LEGGINGS. I mean, we’re talking Thanksgiving day outfits after all. #givemeallthepie #andalltheleggings #elasticwaistbandsforthewin
So, here’s the deal, I ordered new leggings a couple of weeks ago. The leggings that I’ve been screaming and shouting about for the last several years (the ones I named MUST HAVES) are no longer available at Nordstrom. Since I get requests for legging recommendation pretty frequently, I new I had to find some leggings I loved that were currently available. Well, GREAT NEWS! I ordered THESE and love them. And they are NOW ON SALE!
For size reference, I ordered the small (and am wearing the smalls in the picture below). However, I jumped online yesterday and also ordered the XS Petite because I definitely feel like they run big. Length wise, they were several inches too long for me at 5’4″, which is great news for you taller ladies! (I only wear leggings with tall boots, so I just cuff them up and it doesn’t bother me.) The waistband is ultra wide and comes over my belly button (which I LOVE), but they aren’t compression leggings, so don’t be expecting them to totally suck you in. That being said, they are incredibly flattering (and I think once I get the size down they might suck me in a little bit).
I’m wearing a small in the tee, and I ordered a medium in the cardigan to make sure it would be long enough for leggings!
This outfit is the ultimate in cute comfort! And if you wanted to make it more casual, you could lose the long necklace, switch out the Kendra Scott necklace for some little studs (I’m totally crushing on these heart ones) and switch out the leather boots for slim profile UGGs. Now THAT would be comfortable.

OUTFIT IDEA #4:
Here’s another outfit with the same $19 tee. And I’ve paired it with skinny cargo pants from Caslon, because they don’t just have great tops! Caslon also has a lot of great plus size options.

OUTFIT IDEA #5:
Just in case you don’t remember how these pants look on, I thought I would show you a previous outfit. An outfit that would also be great for Turkey Day.
AND THE FRINGE SCARF IS BACK IN STOCK IN ALL SIZES and still ON SALE FOR $8.98! It’s backordered, but you will still get it way before Christmas!
I’m wearing a small in my “like buttah” tee and a 27P in the pants (I’m almost 5’4″).

OUTFIT IDEA #6:
Chelsea 28 is another house brand that I have collected several items from over the years. I actually bought this same sweater 2 years ago, but it was a lighter grey and cream, and this one is a darker grey and blush.
Why did I buy the exact same sweater again? Well, it’s a sad sad story. I was wearing a bracelet that snagged the sweater terribly. Right on my right boob. It was terrible. When I saw this one online just last week, I scooped it up! And now it’s on sale!!!!!! For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the sweater.
If you want a more neutral look, I would suggest wearing it with grey jeans and taupe booties.

Look at the back!!!! THE PLEATS! OMG AT THE PLEATS! I would suggest wearing a neutral cami under it.

OUTFIT IDEA #7:
I couldn’t do this post without highlighting the peplum tee that I’m crazy about. This is a basic tee that’s kicked up a notch with a peplum hem. I especially love that the hem is made up of tiny soft pleats. It’s lightweight, looks great on it’s own, can be easily worn under another layer. It doesn’t look sloppy, it just looks comfy! And it’s ONLY $39. And let’s talk about the important thing for Thanksgiving day, it gives you enough room for an extra roll or two. And my Aunt Katie makes THE BEST rolls. 😉 #myauntiscoolerthanyours
And if you aren’t a skinny jeans girl, I wanted to give you a great boot cut option with this outfit! The wide waistband on these hug you and suck you in, and they really are incredibly comfortable. And I’m telling you, your family will think you grew an inch and lost 10 pounds. These jeans are magic.

This tee originally came in all of the following colors…
…and now it comes in a pretty blush and a deep turquoise as well. The blush would look great under a military jacket!

OUTFIT IDEA #8:
Here’s another outfit from a previous post that would be perfect for Thanksgiving, because even though it’s leggings (and crazy comfy), the sweater is dressy! So, you will look completely put together, and feel incredibly comfortable at the same time.
I could go on AND ON AND ON about this sweater. So I will. First of all, the cowl neck is perfection. It’s big, but not overwhelming, and the neck doesn’t make me claustrophobic (like some turtlenecks do). The sweater is so soft (I absolutely hate sweaters that are itchy!), and it kind of feels a bit cashmere-ish! The fit is great (it’s kind of fitted, but not clingy), and it drapes so nicely because it’s not bulky at all. I’m wearing the regular small (at almost 5’4″), so I think it’s true to size. It also comes in petite for you shorter gals (or for those that only want to wear with jeans). It maybe runs a bit big, so if you are just going to wear with jeans and not leggings, I might consider sizing down a size. I definitely wanted the room and the length that the regular small provided since I knew I would be wearing it with leggings.

Shay Shull says
So many cute options!! They all look so “fall” too!
Narci says
All of these outfits are perfect for Thanksgiving, and you were adorable in that third outfit!! Also, You are making me want a new tall boot now! So cute!
Nicole Dhillon says
I just ordered the striped long sleeve shirt. It’s so versatile and I know I will get a lot of wear out of it. I wore the striped short sleeve ones you recommended over the summer up until last week. I ordered the peplum tee last month in the burgundy and black stripe. I have already worn them several times and always get compliments on them. They are so comfortable and easy to pair with a necklace, jacket, scarf, and just yesterday a rain vest. Next on my list are those gorgeous boots!!
Megan says
For me thanksgiving calls for jeans and an adorable yet comfy top. Great inspiration!

I ordered those dark green skinny pants and they just arrived yesterday. Do you find that they stretch much with wear? I ordered my usual size 27 and they fit, but have a slight bit of room in them. I’m afraid if they stretch at all I’m going to be hiking them up all day, but I don’t want to size down and find that I look like a stuffed sausage!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Nichole! I’m in my regular size, but they are petites (which aren’t normal for me in pants). I would suggest wearing them around the house with the tags still on to see. It sounds to me like you should size down. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Nichole says
Thanks so much! I always appreciate your sizing recommendations…with the exception of height (I’m 5’7”) you and I seem to be similarly shaped!
Janet says
Did you go with a petite or regular size in the boot cut jeans? Do they run TTS? The 0 says it’s a 25 and I’m usually a 24. This is a wonderful post. I love your blog posts. You’re so cute and hilarious.
Sheaffer says
Hi, Janet! I’m wearing a regular. They are long, but I always wear tall wedges or boots with boot cut jeans. And I’m wearing my regular size 27s. These might be too big for you, not sure. Sorry I’m not more help! And thank you so much for the kind words!!! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Nana Chapril says
Shaeffer what size are you wearing in the burgandy cardigan. Im lovin that with the striped tee. Thanks for all these great ideas. 😀
Sheaffer says
Hi, Nana! I’m wearing a medium in the cardigan. I wanted to make sure it was long enough for leggings! xoxo, Sheaffer
Ashley says
Is the top itself long enough to wear with leggings? Or do we need a cardi too in order to be able to wear with leggings? Thanks! Super cute outfits!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Ashley! It’s definitely long enough on me (I’m 5’4″), but it’s pretty thin….so because of that, I don’t think I’d wear it on it’s own with leggings. Hope this helps! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Heidi says
Hi Sheaffer! Would you please share the color name of your Born Boots? I Love them, but just looked online and found two different items & colors & couldn’t decide which yours were – maybe “Cookie Dough” or “Tobacco”?? Thanks in advance!!! LOVE your Blog!!!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Heidi! Well, this is going to sound weird, but I have no idea what color my boots are. When I ordered them last year, they were definitely called “cookie dough”. However, the “cookie dough” boots on the website were MUCH MUCH lighter than the boots I received. At that time, lots of readers were ordering the boots. Some were light (like the pic on the website), and others were dark like mine. So….all that to say, I’m not sure which color mine are. Sorry I’m not more help! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
cassie {hi sugarplum} says
OHEMGEE!! Adore every single one of these outfits!! In fact, I’m totally inspired to pair my olive cargos with that fringe scarf today!! Thanks for the new and fun ideas!!
Whitney Pegram says
I love all of these!!!
Beka says
Do you know if the Hue must-have leggings will be back in stock at some point? Or if they’re possibly in stock in store? I usually buy several pairs each fall, and they’ve been out of stock online for over a month, so sad! I’ll try the Caslon ones in the meantime!
Sheaffer says
I have no idea! So sorry, Beka!!!! I really do LOVE these. xoxo, Sheaffer
Wendy says
So my heart stopped when I read that the Hue leggings were no longer available at Nordstrom. I love those leggings and so does my daughter. I just went on to Nordstrom’s website and found them. From what I can see, they look exactly like what I have purchased in the past and for the same price. I bought them right away. Am I missing something? Are they not the same as your must-haves?
Sheaffer says
Hey, Wendy! They still have the regular HUE leggings…but it doesn’t look like they have the ultra wide waistband version, and those are the ones I loved! They also no longer have the graphite. 🙁
Lea Culp says
Oh, my goodness, could you possibly be any cuter! I think not! You wear it all so well. And, I must ask, do you take your photos in the mirror? I’m always looking for just the best way to take photos of myself when no one is around and I don’t like to pull my tripod out. Blessings abundant!
Sheaffer says
Well, Lea. You are too kind. And yes, I’m just taking mirror selfies! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Bethany says
I love number 8! Cutie, comfy, and you can still eat a lot 😉
Elyse says
Sheaffer, I love all these options! Thank you for saving us the trouble of trying on all these clothes! 😉
