Happy Monday, Everybody!

Hope everybody had a great weekend with friends and loved ones.

We went to the ranch for the 2nd weekend in a row because Chris’s sister and her kids were in town from California! It was a quick trip, but it was so great to spend some time with them down there. I’ll share pictures later this week or next from both ranch trips.

But today…TODAY WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SPRING ESSENTIALS!

This coming weekend I’m changing over my closet for spring…

Every season I obviously add fun new pieces to my closet, but there are also pieces that I hang on to from year to year and bring out again and again. The items I’m featuring today are NEW and awesome, but I have a hunch they will continue to be staples for years to come.

Let’s kick things off with a totally classic linen shirt and some modern denim.

This is a bit of a different look for me, but I gotta tell you, I’m totally digging it.

My friend and photographer (shout out, Ralonda) says she gets a new linen shirt from Gap every 1-2 years because she wears them constantly. And she says she wears them just like this; tied at the waist. I love the relaxed, but effortlessly chic look!

This shirt comes in several colors, and you can grab it in regular, petite, or tall sizing. I think it’s so great that GAP is being so inclusive with sizing, and I wish other retailers would follow suit.(You’ll see that almost all of the pieces today come in regular, petite, and tall.) Sadly, the green appears to be going in and out of stock, but some other great colors are still available.

For size reference, I’m wearing a petite medium. Size down if between sizes because it’s cut generously.

I think it’s also going to be great worn open as a swimsuit cover up as well.

Okay, Ladies.

Let’s talk about these jeans.

I’m going to be honest, they are out of my comfort zone, but I’m so glad I gave them a shot because I LOVE THEM.

They are mid-rise with a relaxed fit through the hip & thigh and a loose/straight leg.​ And they are unlike any other jeans I’ve ever owned. I can’t wait to wear them with just a plain white tee.

For size reference, I’m wearing my regular size 27. I’m 5’4″ (with relatively long legs for my height and no torso), and I got the regular sizing in these. The petite would have definitely been too short. The site suggests to size down for a slimmer fit.

AND LOOK AT THE HEM!

If you ask me, the hem is what absolutely makes these jeans.

Pairing them with flat sandals gives a totally casual vibe, but you could dress them up a bit with a low wedge too.

I switched out bags for this last shot to highlight this multicolor straw tote.

The first thing you need to know is that it is HUGE. I didn’t pay attention to the dimensions, and I was expecting it to be about 1/2 this size. I won’t carry it as an everyday bag because it’s so dang big, but I definitely still wanted to show it because it’s DARLING and it would make a great beach bag.

I also was able to pick up some great basics for Carter!

A great pair of jeans and a great white tee are a necessity for him each and every year, and Gap has always been our GO TO for jeans and tees for him. I grab them every year because he needs to size up each year.

This khaki blazer was an impulse buy. I threw it in my cart hoping that he might like it. He wore a navy blazer and jeans on game days this year, so I thought he might be open to a spring blazer and he totally was! I am going to exchange it for a larger size though. It needs to be a bit longer and have a bit more give across the back.

My boy is taller than me now. I can hardly believe it.

Good grief I love him so much, and I am so proud of the young man he is becoming.

Not only is a white tee a basic I grab every year, this year I also threw the grey, the atlantis blue, and the green in my cart. The tees are soft and fit great.

And although he doesn’t wear them very often, he always has a pair of khaki pants in his closet. He wears jeans to church most weeks, but he will sometimes wear khakis. And on occasion, when certain events call for something nicer than jeans, I’m always grateful to have a pair of khakis waiting for him in the closet.

We also like to grab some collared polos every year.

I cannot believe he’s going to high school next year and we only have 4 short years until he goes to college. Fair warning, start preparing yourselves now for the mess I’m going to be in 4 years. #youhavebeenwarned

A pair of white jeans you love and a denim jacket you love are both essentials in my spring and summer closet, and they should be in yours too!

Pair them with a brightly colored top and sandals, and you’re ready to go.

Y’all know I own denim jackets in pretty much every wash imaginable, with all sorts of different fits, from several different retailers.

This particular denim jacket is a super light wash, perhaps even the lightest in my closet. Its wash makes it seasonally appropriate for both spring and summer. It only has a tiny bit of give, and it’s more fitted than not. For size reference, I think it’s true to size, I’m wearing a medium.

I’m in love with the beautiful color, the split neck, the ruffle sleeves, and the gauzy material of the blouse. It’s very feminine! I ordered a small, and it was too tight across the bust, and it was also a bit long. I exchanged it for a petite medium and am much happier with the fit.

These white jeans are fitted through the hip & thigh with a slim leg. They definitely have a bit of stretch to them, which I very much appreciate, especially in white denim. They have excellent ratings and the quality is awesome. For size reference, I’m wearing a petite 27. Again, I’m 5’4″ with long legs for my height. I ordered the petite because I wanted them to be a bit cropped.

For my final outfit today, I’ve got two more really great basics.

A t-shirt dress is always an essential piece in my closet. In fact, I own several and will always have several options in my closet. They are so great to just grab for an instant outfit.

This one has a v-neck, a tiny bit of length on the sleeve (so it covers the widest part of the upper arm!), and a tiered bodice. It’s also quite soft and has pockets! I’m wearing a petite small. I started out with a petite medium, but it was too big all over.

A white denim jacket is a new piece for my closet, and I’m totally digging it! It’s so fresh, and a great option for a layer when you don’t want to wear a regular denim jacket. White denim keeps the outfit so light. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.
