On The 2nd Day of Christmas: Gifts for my Kids

Hi Girls!
I’m linking up today with Kelly’s Korner for her Christmas Tour of Homes, even though this post was from a couple of weeks ago.
You won’t get to see my whole house…but you will get bits and pieces….and some good idea for some Christmas canvases!

Actually, before we start with gift ideas for the kids, I wanted to show you two things that I am VERY proud of.
I’m not a super crafty mom…
I’m not even kind of a crafty mom.
Not. At. All.

And my friends will tell you that I’m the ABSOLUTE WORST at planning kids birthday parties.
Really.  Not even being funny.  I totally suck.

That being said, you will now have a bit of a better understanding of why I am soooo excited about the next two things I’m going to talk about.

1)
Check this picture out.
That is my family room.
And that is a picture of Santa super-imposed on it (done at this site HERE) looking like he’s been “caught”).  I did this for Carter last year and he totally ate it up.
It’s easy, and it’s free!
I know it’s not really “crafty”, but it counts as crafty for me.

2)
If you really know me, you are probably going to question if I hired this next thing out.
But I promise you, I did not.
You can ask my bestie Lisa and her little girl Blakely,
because they were with us when we made them!

TODAY I’m going to show you how I get my Christmas craft on.
I’m going to be highlighting some canvases that Carter and I have made the past 3 years.
True to form, I found inspiration on Pinterest.
because “DUH!”…
Pinterest Told Me To!
I typically don’t enjoy craft-type activities
 (perhaps because I suck at them),
 but I really got in to this one!
Can you spot ’em?
Do you see the handprint and footprint canvases on the left?
You guys.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these little canvases.
And I cannot tell you the joy they bring to me each time I look at them.
The Christmas tree is probably my favorite. 
 I love all of his 3 year old little hands stacked on top of each other.
They really tug on this mama’s heart.
How did we do it?
Easy Peasy.
 I just used a pencil to do a rough sketch of about what size I wanted the tree to be.
The two bottom rows are both made up of 5 handprints, I just overlapped them more on the 2nd row.
I then had him do 4 handprints, then 3, then 2, then 1.
I painted the tree trunk and the star.
I drew the light string with a sharpie marker, and the colored lights are…
wait for it….
fingerprints.
That was my own idea.
I know.
I impressed myself with that one.
I was sooooooo flipping proud of myself after the Christmas tree turned out so well, 
I kind of went canvas crazy.  
Again, I searched Pinterest for additional inspiration.
I found some snowmen made out of feet and this next little guy was born.
I painted the entire canvas with a mixture of blue and white paint for a nice light blue. 
 (The canvas needs to be a color so the white snowmen will show up.)
I painted the eyes, mouths, and noses. 
It was cute, but there wasn’t enough wow factor.
And this is where I again totally surprised myself.
I used scrapbook paper for the hats, the earmuffs, and the scarves.
Again. I KNOW!
I’m feeling less and less like I suck with every passing second.
In fact, I pretty much ROCK.
And yes…that’s my foot, Carter’s foot, and the hubby’s foot.
Please take a minute to oooh and ahhhhh appropriately.

 So, now that I had 2, I HAD to have 3.  
You know..the whole odd number design thing came in to play.
So, I went back to Pinterest…..again.
I settled on the handprint Santa, and I think he is precious!
The hat is scrapbook paper, but everything else is painted.
 They were the first decorations I put up this year
(and they were the very last ones I took down last year).
They just make me happy, and
I think they look great nestled in with my regular decor.

I know that I will treasure these each and every year I pull them out!

Last year I added an additional little angel.

And this year we’ll be getting together with Lisa and Blakely again to do another one.
I’ve already turned to Pinterest for inspiration,  and I’ve found 2 that I LOVE.

That Christmas tree sure is cute, but I’m definitely leaning towards towards the cute little Mistle”toes”!  I will definitely be posting the new canvas once it’s done.
And listen, if I can do these, YOU can do these.
You can have complete confidence in that!

Okay….two more things on the agenda today.
First I’m going to talk about some gifts for your young kids.
And then I’m going to do a Santa Alert, so stick with me!

I’m going to focus on young kids today because that’s what I have and that’s what I know.

First up, I want to talk about THESE house shoes that my little guy is dying for.
He saw them on our last trip to Nordstrom and has been talking about them ever since!

If your little one doesn’t like dinosaurs, but you think they would love a pair of light up slippers, there are other choices for both boys and girls HERE including a puppy dog, a fire truck, a soccer ball, a hoot owl, and a polar bear.  All of them are so cute!

(It’s another package for him to have fun opening, and it’s something he truly needs that I would have spent money on anyway!)

    As a very close and personal friend, I will vouch that you are not crafty. At all. Ever. Not one bit. But I don't judge, because the craftiest I get is when I pull out my checkbook and pay someone else to be crafty for me. (Writing that check can be super crafty…).     Give yourself a pat on the back on those sweet canvas paintings. I want to be crafty and I try, but it usually doesn't turn out to good. My girls and I love to paint on canvas, but they don't always make it to the wall! LOL!

    Love your imprefectly perfect attitude and that you get the preciousness of your canvasses as the BEST decorations you could ever have.My boys are 21 and 19 and we have a couple handprints but there wasn't pinterest back then! So I will have fun with grandchildren someday!

    Those pictures are great!!! I did something similar on pottery when my kids were little and gave it as a gift. Wish I had made one for myself! We made reindeer out of their handprints and it was adorable!!! I do love those pictures though, maybe my boys aren't too old (13 & 15)????

I did the Santa handprint one last year and love it, it's my favorite decoration. I want to attempt the Christmas tree canvas and the snowman feet one this year with my 2 1/2 year old little guy. Could you tell me what size those two canvases are? I want to make sure I buy a big enough size but not too big! Haha thanks for your help! 🙂
