Today’s post is one of my favorite posts each and every month. Today I’m going to share your Top 12 picks from May.
Not surprisingly, many of y’alls Top 12 picks are in my top picks for the month as well. All of the items I’m featuring today are items that I added to my own closet or makeup drawer (or already owned), and because of that they are items that you will continue to see on the blog as long as they are in stock.
The picks that made this month’s top list are from Nordstrom, Amazon, and Walmart. And great news, 11 of the items are under $80 and some are under $50!
So, what were our favorites for the month? Let’s look and see…
1) ruffle shoulder smocked dress / 2) eyelet sleeve tee / 3) denim shorts / 4) progressive readers / 5) cross body bag / 6) pajamas / 7) dress / 8) sandals / 9) Dior lip oil / 10) maxi skirt / 11) paperbag waist crop pants / 12) shorts set
1) ruffle shoulder smocked dress / I shared this ruffled shoulder smocked dress in the “fire orange floral” last month and it was a top seller, so I had to try another color. I went with a solid this time in this gorgeous emerald green. The color is STUNNING.
Not only is the top smocked (which makes it so forgiving and comfortable), but the sleeves have smocking as well. And check out the little ruffles on the sleeves! SO CUTE. The skirt is tiered, and the pockets and the little ruffle on the hem complete the dress. If you don’t like the green, there are several florals and several solids to choose from. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
dress / raffia hoops / similar necklace / gold bracelet stack / studded sandals
And here’s the same dress in a vibrant floral pattern!
I feel like this dress could be at least twice the price at Anthro. It’s also giving me a bit of Farm Rio vibes! It’s beautifully made and totally special.
ruffle midi dress / hoop earrings / similar coin necklace / bracelet stack / cognac sandals
2) eyelet sleeve tee / It’s a simple tee, but it’s elevated with the scalloped and eyelet sleeves! This is a tee I will be wearing all summer long.
AND CHECK OUT THE SNEAKERS! Y’all know I love a Dolce Vita fashion sneaker, so I was thrilled to see this new style. The light blue are perfect for the patriotic vibe today, but they come in TONS of colors. I also love the green suede with pink accents and the white with green leather. If you’re looking for a more neutral option, I would go with the white/grey leather.
These jeans are on their way to me too. As is the hat.
eyelet sleeve tee / light wash denim / America hat / woven white bag / navy raffia earrings / light blue sneakers / USA bracelet stack
Here’s the eyelet tee again, but I decided to top the outfit off with a pair of classic chambray shorts and robin’s egg blue sandals. LOVE.
eyelet sleeve tee / chambray shorts / sandals / navy raffia earrings / straw tote with stripes / red lipstick (Ruby Woo)
3) denim shorts / I LOVE THESE DENIM SHORTS. I got them a couple of years ago, and I’m still wearing them like crazy.
They are cute, soft, AND OH SO COMFY. They have a functional zipper and button….BUT GET THIS…..there’s elastic across the back of the waistband. Yep, they’re basically like toddler shorts. And they’re awesome. If you fully tuck in shirts, then these shorts aren’t going to be for you because the elastic waistband isn’t cute. But since I only 1/2 tuck shirts, nobody will ever see the waistband and I’ll just benefit from the comfort!
There’s also a darker denim and a white, and this year they added light pink and black to the mix. SO CUTE!
For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. They are roomy, a little slouchy, and just perfect.
Texas tee no longer available / rattan hoop earrings / gold bracelet stack / denim shorts / sandals
If you don’t have these shorts yet, fix that! Again, I’m wearing the mediums.
USA sweatshirt (from lounge set) / denim shorts
Here’s another outfit with the shorts.
chiffon blouse / denim shorts / hoop earrings / red, white, and blue bracelet stack / TB sandals
4) progressive readers / One of my very favorite Amazon finds this month is my new progressive readers. GO AHEAD AND READ THAT AGAIN. Just call me MeeMaw.
Y’all, I swear that within the last 2-3 weeks that my eyesight has gone downhill. I started noticing several months ago that I needed to hold my phone at arm’s length to see the text clearly, and then I started noticing that it wasn’t even super clear at arm’s length. I grabbed some readers on Amazon at that point, but I wasn’t prepared for how annoying it is to use the readers when you need them, but then not be able to keep them on when watching tv, walking around, or looking at anything that you’re not reading.
I kept seeing ads for progressive readers on Facebook, but I thought it would be a good idea to try the inexpensive Amazon version before making the leap. I got the “progressive mixed color” pack with the 1.0x magnification strength. They definitely take some getting used to, but I do like them much more than the regular readers I originally tried.
Below is how you will find me around the house most days. In a super comfy top and joggers, in my readers.
hooded top (part of a set) / progressive readers / must have joggers (not Amazon)
5) cross body bag / Check out this $80 bag! It’s classic, totally chic, and looks much more expensive than it is. Click HERE for all of the current options from this designer. So many really great bags that I would love to have! I’m blown away at the options and the price points.
And I know I’m supposed to be featuring the bag right now, but I love everything about this dress. I showed it in a sponsored back in April, and I’ve now worn it like 4 times since then. Is it pricey? YES. Has it been worth it for me? ALSO YES.
It has a bright and happy floral pattern, a swingy fit, billowy sleeves, gorgeous pleating, tassels, and all sorts of pretty little details. And I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention this, but it also has pockets. And my goodness I love a dress with pockets. The background is a soft lilac color, the floral pattern is orange and green, and then there are navy details throughout. The skirt is short and flirty, and I love it.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small. (I normally wear a medium in dresses, but I took a gamble and ordered a small because I could tell it was going to be an oversized fit. I’m glad I got the small.)
floral cotton poplin minidress / chunky hoop earrings / bracelet / raffia bag / wedges
Here it is styled with a peasant blouse and jeans.
And because I know I’ll get questions, let’s talk about the jeans…
These mid-rise flare jeans have mixed reviews online, but I happen to think they’re awesome. They’ve got a slight flare leg, which is totally on trend, and I love the wash and the length. I’m 5’4″ with long legs for my height (and no torso! ha!). They are a shorter ankle length on the model, but they are longer on me. I like this length on me, but I think they’d be cute shorter too! They are a mid-rise, and I think they fit like a trouser jean up top with how the waistband and pockets are placed. I rarely find myself reaching for skinny jeans anymore, and I can now confidently say that I’ve fully embraced straight leg, flare leg, and boot cut options. I sized up to a 6 in these jeans for a relaxed feel.
peasant blouse / sunglasses / long necklace / bracelet / mid-rise flare jeans / raffia bag / wedges
The neutral-colored raffia paired with the cognac makes it so classic, and I think it has the ability to be styled with so many different types of outfits. It has an adjustable strap so it can be worn over the shoulder or cross body, and it’s a great price point for this type of quality bag.

6) pajamas / Definitely one of my personal favorites for the month, this pants set is also only $17. I’m wearing the “vibrant orchid floral dot” here, but the set comes in 9 color/pattern options.
They are soooooo soft, sooooooooo stretchy, sooooooo comfy, and they are cooling as well. I like them even better than the Soma Cool Night’s pajamas I have because I think this launder better AND they come in cuter patterns. And they are obviously way more affordable.
They are also size inclusive coming in sizes XS – 3X. I’m wearing a medium.
And a black floral…
And a blue leopard…
7) dress / This bohemian floral mini dress is one that I know lots of y’all are going to want. In fact, I like it so much, that I’m actually showing it in 3 colors today. This is the “ocean blue”. It’s a romantic dress with billowy sleeves with a relaxed and flowy fit. The neck is a deep v and has ties that I like to leave undone. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and just a dreamy summer dress. It’s not lined, but it’s not see-thru either. I’m wearing a medium in this one, but I’m wearing a small in the next two colors. Because of the length, I think I decided that I prefer the fit of the medium.
dress / chunky hoop earrings / gold and pearl necklace / bracelet / sandals (light makeup)
This is the “saffron”. As you can see, the small is still very roomy, but it is a bit shorter. I’m 5’4′ with long legs for my height.
dress / raffia earrings / bracelet / sandals (light makeup)
This is the “caramel”. I actually think this one would transition nicely to fall and would pair great with a denim jacket and boots. If you’ve got a trip to Nashville coming up, grab it! Again, I’m wearing a small in this one.
dress / chunky hoop earrings / similar coin necklace / bracelet / studded sandals
8) sandals / These raffia sandals are so stylish and so comfortable. The raffia detail coupled with the buckle is such a fun combination. I’m wearing the “cuoio” which is a nice and rich brown, but they also come in a neutral straw color, a robin’s egg blue, and a terra orange. The color shown isn’t on sale, but several other colors are on sale! True to size for me.
ankle flare jeans / raffia sandals

9) Dior lip oil / I’m in love with, obsessed, and addicted to my Dior lip oil. It’s soooo hydrating, and it makes my lips so shiny with just a hint of color. I wear it on it’s own all the time, but I also love layering it on top of lip gloss. If you try it, you’ll become obsessed too.
10) maxi skirt / After trying on a Free People dress/skirt that was pretty pricey, I found these on Amazon AND LOVE THEM. And they are a fraction of the price. The Free People choice is $148, but these are ONLY $32.99.
And really, THIS SKIRT IS FABULOUS. It’s seriously fantastic. This one is the “apricot”, but it comes in 12 wonderful color and pattern options. The wide waistband is smocked and is so comfortable. The skirt is so flowy and easy to wear. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. The smocking makes it very forgiving.
white tee / denim jacket / maxi skirt/ dress / straw tote / chunky hoop earrings / gold bracelet stack / studded sandals
And here it is as a midi dress! I’m not sure how it would look worn as a dress on its own, but you know I will always style it with a denim jacket.

Here’s the same skirt, but this is the “apricot rose red flower”.

And here it is worn as a dress…

11) paperbag waist crop pants / These pants are one of my newest finds. I’ve only shown them in these 2 collages, haven’t even shown the on me yet, but I totally knew y’all were going to love them. I plan on showing them on me on Friday’s post.
denim jacket / white tank / drawstring pants / heart necklace / earrings / belt / bracelet set / clutch / wedge sandals
The smalls are perfect on me. I think they’re great.
denim jacket / white tank / drawstring pants / heart necklace / bracelet set / beaded earrings / tote / sandals
12) shorts set / These short sets are so fun for summer. So easy to just slip on and look totally put together while still being super comfortable. The material is very lightweight, and it says the set is 100% cotton, but it definitely has a gauzy feel. I’m wearing a medium and definitely needed a medium in the top, but I could have done a small in the shorts. Since the set is sold in 1 size, I went with the mediums.
black short set / basic gold hoops / cross body bag (with strap) / matte gold bracelet stack / studded sandals
Here’s the same set, I just switched out the cross body for one of my favorite totes. This would be a great travel outfit as you would be super comfy and the tote holds a lot.
black short set / basic gold hoops / matte gold bracelet stack / studded sandals
I loved the set so much that I grabbed it in this bright pink too! So fun, right? Again, I’m wearing a medium.
I switched out the strap that came with the bag for one I got several years ago, but you can click HERE for tons of options.
pink short set / basic gold hoops / cross body bag (embroidered strap options HERE) / multicolor bracelet stack / studded sandals
That’s all for today, y’all! See you back here on Wednesday!

I have been eyeing those Aerie denim shorts…but wondering if 58 year old me should be wearing ones that short. Can you give me an idea of the length on the mediums you have on? They look great on you!
Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Laura! I’m mid 40s, and I’ve been wondering if they are too short for me too. Haha! I only wear them for super casual occasions. 🙂 I’m all for YOU DO YOU and wear what makes you feel good, but I hate being in situations where I feel I’m dressed inappropriately. Hope this helps! xoxo
