Black, Brown, and a Beautiful Necklace!

So one of my post popular blog posts EVER in the history of EVER centered around the idea that mixing black and brown together is good.
GASP
Take a minute if you need to.
I know that it used to be be frowned upon,
BUT NOT ANYMORE LADIES.
Now I ALWAYS mix black with brown, and I want to strongly encourage all
of you to do so as well.
It just makes an outfit more interesting.
Period.
The end.

So, today I’m going to show you one of the easiest ways to mix the two colors.
Black Dress.
Brown Boots.
Brown Bag.
Simple. Done. Awesome.

And I also want to finally debut (after teasing it for a week) the necklace of my dreams.

So here’s the BLACK AND BROWN look….with an awesome necklace thrown in for good measure!
And if you don’t love the thought of bare legs, I think this would also look great with THESE grey leggings (I wear a small and they are a MUST HAVE!).  I love black, brown, and grey together too!

I’m really excited about this whole outfit!
This dress is comfy and relaxed enough to just throw on and be like “No Big Deal”…..but you will look TOTALLY put together with a “No Big Deal” vibe.

And I’ve got a tip to share with you that I’ve learned the last couple of years when mixing the 2 colors.  Once you read it, you’ll be like “duh”.
Choose lighter shades of brown for more contrast.
If I could make the above sentence blink, I would.  It’s that important.   
It’s not ground breaking, but it’s something to keep in mind when putting together
 a black and brown outfit.I’ve found that it’s actually better to mix a cognac brown, a camel, or a taupe (vs. a chocolate brown) with black for even more contrast and interest!
MORE CONTRAST = BETTER
It’s that simple.

And if you are going to get one bag this fall, make it cognac.

      Hi there! Another reader e-mailed me about this scarf a couple of weeks ago. She was SO excited about it, but when she got it she says it was very thin and she could tell it was going to shed! 🙁 Did you get it for yourself? I'm curious to know your thoughts!

    I tried to get those flair jeans yesterday and my Loft DIDN'T have them – I guess they were only test marketed in some stores in the area – the horror!!!! I ended up with the Modern Skinny Jeans and love them – but if I win I will DEFINITELY do the flairs 🙂

    I didn't used to do black and brown together. It was always considered a fashion no-no. Now I do! As you said, a lighter brown with black adds a lot of interest and is the perfect background for a little splash of color (like your new pendant-CUTE!). Sadly, I cannot jump on the white pants after Labor Day wagon just yet. Still feels wrong.:-)

    I like the brown and black together, as long as it's not just a majority black outfit with one brown item. I think it needs to be balanced or it looks off somehow. I loved shirt dresses when I was a kid and before I had kids. Now I have that mommy gut thing going since I had kids and can't find one that doesn't make me look super frumpy.

    If anyone's looking for a leather tote similar to the Barrington bag, look for the Fossil tote bag called "Sydney" not the Sydney shopper although that ones cute too but smaller. I bought it a few months back from Fossil in the "brown" color hoping it wasn't too brown but more cognac and yes it is truly cognac. It matches my cognac Frye boots exactly. They also have the bag in camel. Only $115 at Nordstrom Rack.

    I think black and brown go great together. Fashion has come so far, I even wear white after Labor Day!! Ha! Ha! I am so glad flare jeans are back as well, I never stopped wearing them, but am glad to find some new ones. Enjoy seeing your Loft posts, that is my favorite place to shop. I have gotten many great deals there end of season.

    I really love wearing black leggings with brown boots. I have some riding boots in cognac and I think the black leggings really set off how beautiful the leather boots are!     I wore the AC tassel necklace you suggested all summer! I loved it! Totally worth every penny! Now I need something fun for fall and this one is perfect! I love the colors!
