I’ve got one more BACK TO SCHOOL post for y’all today! I’m working with Bloomingdale’s (I know many of you already know and love Bloomingdale’s) to showcase a variety of different pieces that you can pick up as great basics for your kids for the school year! Today I’m excited to feature several head to toe outfits for Carter that are crazy cute, and everything is found at Bloomingdale’s. Most of the outfits that I’m showing today are examples of how I would like Carter to dress each day. Wouldn’t that be nice, moms? If our kids dressed just how we wanted them to all the time? Ha! #inourdreams
Well, that’s not happening at my house because my 4th grader is super opinionated about his wardrobe choices. Yes, he has opinions about the brands he wears, but what he cares about most is that his clothes are comfy and cozy. Comfort is of high importance to me as well, and I too will often pass on clothes if they aren’t comfy, EVEN IF they are super cute. So, I totally get Carter’s comfy criteria. #iunderstandit #andirespectit
All of that being said, I’m thinking about implementing a schedule this year where I get to choose one outfit for Carter to wear to school every 2 weeks. I feel like that’s fair! Yes? I mean, 9 out of 10 days he’s going to get to be comfy and cozy and be the one picking out his outfits. And just 1 of those days he’s going to look a little more put together. I’ll keep you posted on how this goes. #wishmeluck I am going to let him pick his first day outfit (which is today), so be sure to look for his first day of school pic on instagram sometime this morning. I’ll go ahead and bet Captain Cozy won’t have a collar or a button on anything, and if I were a betting girl, I’m guessing it will involve a soccer jersey.
So, today I’m sharing several outfits with you! Five of them are perfect examples of how I would dress Carter if it were solely up to me, and two of them are outfits that are 100% Carter approved.
OUTFIT #1: WHITE COLLARED SHIRT, JEANS, and SNEAKERS
This outfit perfectly depicts how I would love Carter to dress for school. I mean, you can’t get much cuter than a great pair of denim and a classic white collared shirt.
collared shirt / jeans / sneakers / backpack
I’m of course loving the Lacoste collared shirt on him. It’s a total throw back to my childhood. It comes in 6 colors, and since I always make sure that Carter has some basic collared shirts in his closet, we went ahead and got him two (this one in white and a navy one)!
Carter is on the smaller side for his age, so finding jeans that fit well is often a struggle. These from Hudson look great on him and they come in both little kid and big kid sizes.
It looks like he was striking a pose here, but he was really just staring across the street to make sure one of the neighbor boys wasn’t paying attention to our little photo shoot. #covert
Hands down, out of all the pieces we are featuring today, Carter was most excited about his new Adidas sneakers. He’s straight up obsessed. His face lit up when they arrived, and he’s gone on and on about them each time he’s worn them. He says they’re “comfy AND they look cool.” PERFECT!
Get Carter’s look here. The navy shirt links to the white one as well, and even though the sneaker picture isn’t the right color option, it does in fact link to Carter’s exact pair. Also, the jeans represent the little kid and the big kid versions.

OUTFIT #2: NAVY COLLARED SHIRT, JEANS, and NATIVES
For Outfit #2, I just had him change out his white shirt for his navy shirt, and he switched out his sneakers for his Natives. What can I say, I love the kid in a collared shirt and jeans. I just think he looks so dang cute!
collared shirt / jeans / Natives / backpack
Yep, I love the jeans.
Even though he only has to wear sneakers on p.e. days, Carter chooses to wear sneakers to school every day of the week because he always wants to be prepared for an impromptu soccer game at recess. However, he has 1 pair of boat shoes and 1 pair of Natives for church and other occasions. Last year he had grey, the year before he had green, and this year I grabbed this navy pair for him!
If you don’t know about Natives, here’s a crash course. They are easy to get on and off (which is especially good for younger kids), they are easy to keep clean, they are waterproof, and they hold up incredibly well! They also have great colors for girls (including glitter options)!
He said he needed a break, so he popped a squat on the landscaping border.
And then he gave me a sweet little smile that melted my heart.

OUTFIT #3: WHITE COLLARED SHIRT, JEANS, and JACKET
For outfit #3, he is still rocking one of the basic collared shirts we picked up. We switched out the regular denim for a pair of grey jeans, and we are planning for fall with the jacket!
Although the same brand as the regular denim above, these grey jeans are cut a tad more generously, and Carter prefers the more relaxed cut.

This is a great little jacket, and it seems like it will be warm without being too bulky.

OUTFIT #4: NAVY COLLARED SHIRT, DENIM SHORTS, and BIRKENSTOCKS
Now we’re back to the navy collared shirt (obviously it’s super versatile), but he’s rocking it with shorts and Birks!

The popped collar was definitely my touch. I can’t say he was a fan. Haha! But he was amazed at how comfortable the Birkenstocks were! And yes, he’s scoping out the neighbors again.

OUTFIT #5: GRAPHIC TEE, DENIM SHORTS, and BIRKENSTOCKS
For outfit #5, we kept the bottom half the same, we just made the outfit more casual by swapping out the collared shirt for a great graphic tee. The second he put it on, he exclaimed “Now THIS is more like it!”

I mean, the kid looks ready to relax, right?!?

OUTFIT #6: GRAPHIC TEE, SWEAT SHORTS, and Birkenstocks
Carter was thrilled when I let him sub out the denim shorts for these olive green sweat shorts. I think his exact quote was “FINALLY! No zipper or button!” Seriously, this kid loves an elastic waistband. #igetit #hecomesbyithonestly #elasticrocks

OUTFIT #7: Adidas shirt, Adidas shorts, Adidas sneakers
I thought we would end today’s post with Carter’s favorite outfit. Because this is how you will find Carter most of the time. In “comfy shorts” and a “soft shirt”. And with a soccer ball.
I will say, this summer he switched brands on me. Adidas was never even on his radar, but now it’s all he wants to wear. Now, we still have a lot of clothes that fit from the previous brand he loved, so he will definitely continue to wear those clothes this year. However, he did need a wardrobe refresh, so we are currently adding Adidas in to the rotation.

He’s definitely the most excited when he gets to wear head to toe Adidas.
And he’s his happiest when kicking around a soccer ball. If you have time today, hop over to instagram stories to see some of his fancy footwork with his soccer ball!
This is his “I’m serious about soccer” look. His words, not mine.

Perfect model. My five year old grandson also likes “comfy” clothes. He started Kindergarten last week and surprisingly picked out a collared dri-fit shirt for his first day. He made sure to tell us that he wouldn’t be wearing “handsome” clothes tomorrow. Gosh, they’re so much fun.

The older Carter gets, the more I see Chris in him!! I loved every one of these back to school looks! He’s going to be lookin’ good in fourth grade!
Brandi Tooker says
This made me laugh because my son has been Under Armour all the way for awhile. He just declared when we were shoe shopping that he no longer has that loyalty and wanted Adidas shoes! He is almost 9. Where do they get this stuff? My son wears nothing but comfy shorts and shirts. Daily. Sigh.
