I found this inspiration photo on Pinterest, and I knew that it would be super easy to recreate and a slam dunk for my Back to Basics Outfit #2!
Talk about an effortless outfit!
All you need is a maxi, a denim jacket, and a necklace!

I’m wearing an x-small in the maxi, a small in the jacket, and the shoes run a little small so I recommend ordering up a 1/2 size (I’m wearing a 7).
Concerning the dress, a petite might have been better on me, but they didn’t have a petite in store, and I wanted it immediately. The regular length is good for me when I’m wearing wedges, but it definitely puddles on the floor when wearing flip flops. But I don’t mind the puddling, so I’m good with that!
When ordering the dress, make sure you have it on “regular”, “tall”, or “petite” depending on your preference. For some reason the link defaults to “tall”.

If they have them in your size (I suggest ordering a 1/2 size up), get them.
I know a couple of the reviews aren’t totally shining, but I absolutely LOVE these wedges.
I’ve worn them twice now since receiving them (one time I had to walk for a bit, the other time I gave a 1-hour presentation and stood the entire time), and I thought they were extremely comfy!
Although the sizes are going fast in this “cork”…there are plenty left in grey and coral!
Again, I sized up 1/2 a size and am wearing a 7.
Back to the dress….
I could go on and on and on about the above dress BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME.
The material is OH SO SOFT, it drapes beautifully, and it makes me look taller and skinnier than I actually am.

Try some spanx kind of garmet! i found some inexpensive versions at target. they are units of all kinds, but mine is like underwear you put on that is long like shorts on the leg, and the top goes all the way up to right underneath 'the girls'. it stops the wiggle that you might see with some maxi dresses. totally smooths you out and adds confidence. plus, adds a layer of extra coverage 🙂

I have liked a lot of your recommendations and even bought a few items and now they have become staples in my wardrobe. Thank you! One thing I would like to suggest with your recommendations for shoes is if you can tell readers if they offer some arch or heel support. I have planter fasciitis and although I love a lot of the cute shoes that you show on your blog, I know they will never work for me. Never take your feet for granted!!!! I learned the hard way that cute shoes are not worth the long term suffering that they may cause! 🙁

Hi there! That's a good recommendation! I don't have problem feet, so I never really pay attention to any of that. However, I'm not sure if I'll know if a shoe has good arch or heel support. You are very lucky! Here is something just to consider: if it's comfy, cushiony and feels like it cradles the arch that is always a good sign!!!! I think even people with good feet would recognize a shoe with lousy support. Thanks for Responding.

about the bra: i bought the wacoal on your reccomendation! I got a 34c, although im really a 34b. of course, it was too big when it arrived, so i called N and they said that bra is designed for fuller busts, so the "b" size is not an option in that bra. she reccommended the wacoal "b delighted" style, so i will exchange mine for that one and see how it goes! it only has 3 ratings though, vs over 100 for the other? i hope its just as good! but, it is only $40 instead of $60- WIN! Just wanted other readers to know if they are smaller busted………Thanks Sheaffer for the great reccomendation!

I am loving this back to the basics series! Well, I love all of the fashion advice that you provide! 🙂 A couple of questions for you, if you ever see that strapless bra on sale again, could you let your readers know? I missed out last time! Also, I ordered that adorable Shiloh Smbroidered Top from Anthropologie on the 8th and got notification today that my order was cancelled because it was out of stock. I have the red and white Loft maxi dress and I LOVE IT!!!! So I drove the 40 miles to my local Nordstrom today to try on some of the Lush maxi dresses. I'm 5'9" and a size 6 so I had no clue how they would run on me. Would they be too short? Hit oddly in the waist? I'm happy to report that the size S fit beautifully thanks to the adjustable straps. I can wear flats or wedges too! I grabbed the solid black (since I already own a teal green BP necklace & the Must Have denim jacket) and the black and white shown above. My store must have had 12 or so different colors and I'm not going to lie, I wanted to grab them all!
I also snagged one of those split neck tops by Lush that Shay features a lot. And I caved and bought the pink stud earrings (yes, I now own all the colors) and they had the all gold beaded hoops- BONUS!!

I love this simple formula!! Totally agree. I am wondering what your thoughts are on denim vests over dresses for the summer? I love my medium/dark wish denim jacket for year round, but I'm considering a white or lighter denim vest….. Is that too retro or is it polished and cool? I need PTMT's opinion!
