Like I said on Monday, temperatures are still stupid hot around here…but it doesn’t mean I’m not dreaming about (and planning for!) cooler weather. So, when Nordstrom reached out and asked me share a sneak peek of some fall looks, I had the best time putting some together!
On Monday’s post, I planned the outfits by creating the following flat lays and loved all 4 looks.
In fact, I loved them so much and got so excited about the outfits, I went ahead and tried them on and took pictures for today’s post. #becausethatswhatbloggersdo 😉
And after I took the pictures, I realized I wasn’t just planning some fall outfits….I was also making quite the case for owning a pair of grey jeans! All 4 of the outfits used a pair of light grey jeans, and I loved how they made the outfits different than just a regular ol’ pair of blue jeans would. They kicked the outfits up a couple of notches, and I loved it. I’m also wearing these heeled booties, and this awesome new necklace in all of the pictures.
My grey jeans I’m wearing in today’s pictures are ones I bought last year, that I wore the heck out of, and that I still love. You can click HERE for a great pair of grey jeans that are currently in stock and are ONLY $59! So many of us are fans of Articles of Society jeans (all of them are UNDER $70, and all that I’ve tried on are stretchy, soft, and comfy!), and I think these will be no different. Click HERE for the pair below. I love the light grey color and the frayed hem.
That being said, I of course wanted to give you ladies some others to check out. Click HERE for lots of grey jean options at all price points, with different fits, and in varying shades of grey. You can click on the pair(s) you are interested in!
All of the outfits below would be great with regular ol’ denim jeans as well (and of course we still love our denim jeans), but the grey jeans just give the outfits a little edge. A little extra somethin’ somethin’, if you will. 😉
So, today I’m going to recreate 2 of my flat lays. And next week you are going to get to see the other 2 (and perhaps a couple of bonus outfits because I got a couple of tops in yesterday that I immediately fell in love with, and I know they are going to look awesome with grey jeans).
Look #1: Striped Tee with a Military Jacket
If you’ve read my blog for any amount of time, you know I’m a HUGE fan of military jackets. I own SEVERAL that I’ve collected over the last 5 years of so. They are all different cuts, and I wear all of them. I wear all of them A LOT. The one I’m wearing below has a fun swing cut and a drawstring hood that can be cinched in. Sadly, there are only 3 sizes left now, but I’m hoping for a restock for y’all sake. But don’t worry, if your size isn’t available, I’ve got options for you in a minute.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the jacket and the tee, and I wear a 27 in A.O.S. jeans. All true to size.

This necklace is awesome. It’s adjustable, and the simple brass disc will be able to be paired with pretty much any and all outfits.

Here are some other military jacket options. If you don’t have a military jacket, you need to fix that asap. 🙂 If you get one, I promise you will wonder how you ever got dressed without one. The green functions as a neutral with a little bit of a punch. Here are lots of great options, and you can just click on the one you are interested in!
And some plus size options:

Look #2: Basic Black Sweater with a Little Extra Something
So we all need a basic black sweater in our closets, but this one has these really great sleeves that make it special. It’s incredibly soft, and the bottom of it can be pulled down long or gathered up to be worn a bit shorter. I would say that the bottom of the sweater is long enough for leggings when pulled down, but I think it would be too fitted for my liking with leggings.
I absolutely love this outfit, because I think mixing black, brown, and grey together is a great look. There’s something sophisticated about it, and I’m nothing if not sophisticated. 😉
For size reference, I’m wearing a small in the sweater and a 27 in A.O.S. jeans. Both true to size.
The bag has a great colorblock pattern, but it’s reallllllly big. I don’t love big bags, so this went back, but I really dug the look of it. If it came in a smaller tote, I would definitely be picking it up. If you love big bags, you should grab this one!

Another black top option that would look fantastic with grey jeans is this poplin ruffle tee. I MEAN! DARLING!

And remember, next Monday you’ll get to see the lavender tunic outfit and the striped tee and blush cardi outfit!
Before you go today…I have a couple of more looks for you…looks that you’ve seen before, but that definitely help make the case for grey jeans! Unlike the really light grey in the first 2 outfits, this next pair of grey jeans is a really dark grey.
Previous Look #1
If you like these jeans, you need to know that the lighting is messing with the color of the jeans (they are definitely grey, and not black). Also, they have the “ab-solution” technology and fantastic reviews.
Sizing Tips: I’m wearing my regular 4, but others have reported sizing down. I could not have sized down in these jeans. I’m wearing a small in the tee and the jacket.

Previous Look #2
One more outfit you’ve already seen before, but that I had to show again. Again, these are the dark grey jeans, but this time I’ve paired them with a blush sweatshirt (with a DARLING ruffle on the back)! I’m wearing a small, so it’s true to size. I haven’t worn it yet (the tags are still on it), so I’m actually considering exchanging it for a medium so it will have a more slouchy look.

I hope you loved all the looks today! So, I want to know: Do you have grey jeans? If so, are they a closet staple for you? If you don’t have them, did this post convince you that you need them or do you still need to see Part 2 to be convinced?!? Ha! Sound off in the comments! 🙂
And remember, Monday’s post is going to have a couple of bonus outfits as well. I got this long sleeve tee in yesterday, and I’m so excited about the mustard color, the stripes, and the pleated peplum hem. #iheartstripes #andpeplums #andpleats This little tie front tee will also be featured. Hopefully it will still be in stock, because it’s already selling out in some colors. And check this out, both tops are ONLY $39 (and come in several color choices)!
A huge thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!

When you said you didn’t like big bags, that made me think of a question I’ve been meaning to ask about Barrington totes. Which one is your favorite? Is the st. Anne much bigger than the zippered one? I’m trying to decide which one I’d be happier with…
Sheaffer says
Hi, Susanne! The St. Anne is bigger than the Savannah. I prefer the Savannah because of the size, it’s a bit more structured, and there’s a zipper. If traveling though, I prefer the St. Anne though…it holds a bit more, and without the zipper it’s easy access to all inside! They both are awesome! Use the code PTMTSAVE10 for 10% OFF! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂

Don’t size up in that blush back ruffle top, you look great in the size you showed us.

I got the W&W grey skinnies (okay, I got the black ones too hahaha) during the anniversary sale and love them!! Maybe you could share some ideas of fall footwear with them?? I’m just not sure how to wear them with booties because of the length (I’m 5’6″). Thanks!
Sara says
I already have grey jeans and they’re one of my go to pair all fall and winter so I have to admit I was just scrolling through the pictures quickly and not reading. But then I saw that poplin ruffle tee and oh my does my closet need it. SO. CUTE!
Kristine says
I ordered the. Pink Sweatshirt with the ruffle during the sale. Got a email last week that they cancelled my order. I see now that they are back in stock. I am going to call and see if they will honor the sale price. Hoping they will work with me.
Stacy says
I bought the grey Wit & Wisdom jeans during the Anniversary sale at your suggestion, but they are too short for me–even for ankle length! I’m wondering if you happen to know which pair would work better for taller girls? Thanks!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Stacy! I’m so sorry! Perhaps the light grey ones I featured today. I saw a review somewhere (or maybe on somebody else’s blog or instagram) that they were good for tall girls! The girl talking about them was 5’9″ if I remember correctly! xoxo, Sheaffer
Stacy says
Awesome, I’ll check them out. Thank you!

I bought a Gibson sweater last winter and it ended up being one of my favorite, most versatile pieces! So soft and comfy! Thanks for putting the black tie-sleeve gem on my radar–love it!

I think you’ve almost convinced me that I NEED the jeans! AOS has quickly become my favorite jeans and I wear my denim ones 5 days a week at least. Can’t wait for fall to wear my black ones. I wish I had bought the white ones at the beginning of the summer but I guess I’ll wait until spring.
Drew says
I love the darker gray jeans!! I struggle with light wash jeans, but I think I could pull off the light gray 🙂 Black jeans are also hard for me because I feel like most pairs end up looking like leggings on me, but I’ve been itching for a pair, so maybe the darker gray will fit the bill!!
Also, on a side note! I have been considering ordering “the best strapless bra ever” for months, but I just kept putting it off. After one too many strapless ordeals this summer with my terrible strapless bra falling to my waist all day long, I finally decided to go for it and order based on your recommendation! It just come in and I promptly took it out of the box to “just try it on” for a bit. I literally don’t want to take it off!!! How did I go this long without such a great bra?! Thank you for constantly highlighting what a life changing bra it is! I’m so glad I listened to you!

Definitely need some grey jeans! And that adorable ruffle back shirt!!

I love my grey jeans!!!! And your outfits are always so lovely – and that black shirt has me all “ooh la la!!”
Valerie says
Hi Sheaffer! I love your blog so much! So, I really want/need a pair of gray jeans but wondering if you had any suggestions for a curvy fit? Sometimes even if I size up in a super skinny, they still do not fit right. Loft had a pair last year and I wish I would have snagged them–their jeans fit me well. (And I’m looking for the true gray rather than the darker faded black gray.) Thank you for any suggestions you may have!
Sheaffer says
Hi, Valerie! I would suggest searching “women’s grey jeans” at Nordstrom and click on all of the choices and read the reviews. You might find exactly what you need by doing so! xoxo, Sheaffer 🙂
Kelly says
I bought my grey jeans last year (probably because you suggested it;) and I love wearing them as an alternative to denim. Also, I don’t think I would have ever paired them with the neutral bootie but I love that look! Thanks, Sheaffer!
