Okay….
Before I re-create an outfit today, I wanted to take a little time to talk about YOU guys.
I have been FLOORED at all the sweet and wonderful comments that you leave for me.
I read each and every one, and I am so thankful for them!
I also try to reply to each one (either on the blog or via e-mail), but I’m not sure if when I respond to the anonymous comments via e-mail if they ever go through?!? They don’t get bounced back to me, but I still question if they are going through.
Anway…..
It’s actually probably a little
Like, when my phone buzzes letting me know I have an e-mail,
I can hardly get to it fast enough to see if it’s a blog comment!
{Just imagine how fast you move when you see a picture of you has been tagged on facebook.}
Yep. That’s how fast I move.
I’m talking lighting speed people.
Well, here is a comment I got this weekend in response to me asking y’all to leave a comment if you had purchased anything as a result of this blog.
I would be lying if I said that I didn’t get choked up.
Cause I totally did.
Here is the comment:
Ready for this? So far I have bought the Redken shampoo/conditioner, bubble
necklace off etsy, Hue leggings, and the leopard scarf from Nordys. I
also got some melon cords from Banana Republic, since Target doesn’t
have tall sizes 🙁
You have also reunited me with the Loft.
I haven’t
bought from there in years, but made a big online purchase last night.
Thank
you!
The hubby isn’t even upset as he loves the new looks & boldness
from me.
I let my fashion go when the rugrats came on board,
but thanks
to you I started thinking about it again!
I mean, SERIOUSLY!
Do you need me to pass you a tissue too?
No?
Have you a heart of stone?
I really was so touched by that!
The comment was posted as “anonymous”……so……
Dear Anonymous,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write.
I LOVE that my silly little blog is helping you dress with more “boldness”.
And I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am that the hubby doesn’t even care you are spending $$.
It’s what every little girl dreams of! A hubby that supports her spending habits!
SO happy for you, for your newfound boldness, and for your happy husband!
Love,
Sheaffer 🙂
Okay….enough of the mushy stuff from me….what did Pinterest tell me to do today?
I know we have talked about this once before, but pre-Pinterest,
I never would have mixed black and brown together.
I don’t know why I wouldn’t have, because now it’s seems like a
I tell ya…..
I might hate her for being such a know-it-all if I didn’t love her so much.
I have also never ever ever in my long legged life seen a long legged sailor with a long legged wife.
But that is neither here nor there.
So, here is my advice to you.
THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND,
PUT ON YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES,
and
TOSS ALL PRE-CONCEIVED NOTIONS OF WHAT YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY TAUGHT ABOUT WEARING BLACK AND BROWN TOGETHER OUT THE WINDOW.
Sorry to yell, but I felt like the situation called for it.
You’re gonna like the result.
Pinky swear.
Mix and Match Mama says
A post that involves a little sobbing over reader comments and stern advice to "put your big girl panties on" and mix black and brown (gasp!)…perfect variety! Now…what about mixing grey and brown???? That's tricky. Can you do it? Yes. That's me double-dog daring you.
Sheaffer says
Shay – I accept your challenge. In fact, I already have a couple of outfits pinned that will help me rise to the occasion.
Stay tuned…..
Narci says
Again, you have me laughing before my coffee. I will say that I tried this outfit/color combo because I saw you pin it on Pinterest. I felt like such a naughty girl! Black and brown together–felt so good to break that rule! 😉
Sheaffer says
Narci – I am laughing soooo hard at you being "naughty"! Hilarious!
Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
You know, my best friend and I used to laugh about a guy that wore black and brown together back in college. But seriously, he wore black jeans, a brown belt and brown cowboy boots. We were entitled to, right?
I love this look and have been mixing black and brown lately too! Maybe that guy in college was a trend setter?
Love your blog!
Alison

Alison – I'm dying to know what kind of shirt he was wearing!

How do we feel about Black skinny pants and brown boots? Still a no? Also, I think I have a great idea for a post, Pinterest Told Me To, size 12-14 edition. Some things you wear are so cute, but I'm not sure I can pull them off. I'll come to you and you can dress me and then post about it on your blog 😉 Sounds good, right??
Sheaffer says
Hi Tonya!
Actually, I think that black skinny pants and brown boots DO work together! And you can totally pull off anything I'm wearing! Just WORK. IT. 🙂
Anonymous says
Yay for black and brown! Keep up the great work on the blog, Sheaffer! I look forward to reading your sassy chic-ness every day!
Nancy.
Sheaffer says
Thanks Nancy! You think I'm sassy and chic? I love it! 🙂
Julianne says
I found you from Big Mama's blog. The first entry I read was about Hue leggings. I work for a store that sells them and have sold tons of pairs since I've begun quoting your blog. (And I'm in cosmetics!) I've probably written down your blog address for a customer or friend every day since. You are doing a wonderful job translating the high fashion looks for "every woman" and it's fun to be a fan. It's sure to be a blast to watch your popularity soar and some of us will get to brag that we were fans in the early days! 🙂 (Still haven't found the melon cords in my size, but hopeful I will at least get the leopard scarf from Francesca today!)
Blessings on ya.
Sheaffer says
Hi Julianne! I e-mailed you earlier today, but I'm having trouble knowing if they are going through….so I thought I would respond here too. I LOVE that you are just handing the blog out to customers. That is awesome! And girl, I hope you are making commission on those HUE leggings. Thanks so much for the sweet words about the blog. I am having a blast, and I can only hope that the blog will keep growing!
Sheaffer 🙂

Thanks for letting me know Jessica! I had no idea, and that is sooo cool!

Oh, I feel so vindicated {other adult in the house doesn't think black and brown go together well}!!!!!!!!! 🙂

mel @ the larson lingo says
What a sweet note!!! Yay!
And…..brown & black….don't know if I can do it….but I will TRY, because Shaeffer told me to 🙂
mel @ the larson lingo says
*Sheaffer….typo on your name! sorry 🙂
Jane says
Okay, Sheaffer, I keep finding myself reading your blogs and I don't know why I would read a fashion blog. I mean, I am 57 and wear scrubs everyday! You are one witty lady! Anyway, today I saw this post and thought I could do that. Black and brown are staples of my closet. You can ask Mama J. and she will agree – I don't wear colors! Don't even ask her about my shoes! At any rate, I am going to put this outfit together. Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Hi Jane!!! I LOVE it that you are reading the blog! Maybe you should throw a scarf on with your scrubs…or perhaps layer some necklaces?!? Ha! 🙂
Unknown says

I picked up a pair of black skinnies from the Old Navy $19 sale…and I'm totally going to wear them with brown boots…and a sleeveless top! Oh yes I am!
Amy says
Please don't tell my husband about this whole brown and black thing…I JUST got him to stop wearing the same brown shoes with everything he puts on his body. 🙂
Kim Kauffman says
I love black and brown too, especially when it's a cognac color. I just love your blog – you are too funny! Thanks for always making me smile! 🙂
